*cw: mention of rape, assault, problematic Dom*
Some of this was really well done, others felt really problematic.
Full disclosure: this is not my usual genre, and I don't know enough about the dynamics of the BDSM lifestyle to know every nuance. That said, I found Aiden very inconsistent in what he did and what he said. For me, he gave a lot of red flags. While I appreciate that he admits it, and is berated by the other Doms, his anger was extremely unattractive, and I honestly don't think using the excuse of the breach of trust from his former sub was an acceptable excuse. I also struggled with how he introduced Diego, without first confirming it with Emma. I'd LIKE to think it was one of the things on her original list, but she was clearly wrong-footed the first time, so it's unlikely.
Speaking of Emma, she felt very one-dimensional. And she made very odd choices. Originally, i assumed her sisted must be 18/19. Discovering she was 16 and being left alone after such a traumatic experience wasn't realistic, nor was her dialogue.
Speaking of which, there was A LOT of repetitive dialogue from all parties in the book, as well as so much British terminology. I can't help but assume the only reason this was based in the USA was to use the medical system there as the main plot device. Of course, that's absolutely fine. However, if you're setting a story in another country, and making all characters American, you NEED to write them in American English. Sincerely, a Brit. It also needs a GOOD deal of editing as there are far too many grammar mistakes and spelling errors.
Still, there were enough things to keep me reading. As I initially said, I'm no expert, but I found the scenes interesting and well-observed (the problematic two aside). I also really liked the supporting characters, in particular Diego. I will definitely give his story a go.
