Video Session 1: A Simple Relationship (37:25)—Priscilla welcomes viewers to the 20th anniversary edition of He Speaks to Me with a look back over the past twenty years. She then examines 1 Samuel and Luke 18 and describes how we must come to God like a child if we want to be able to hear Him. Session 2: A Single-Minded Worship (30:04)—Priscilla discusses undistracted worship — a second characteristic of those prepared to hear God. Participants will learn about the five "Pharaohs" that keep us from undistracted worship. Session 3: A Set-Apart Holiness (27:30)—Priscilla encourages viewers to be "set apart" in this world. Lifestyle sanctification is the focus of this session. Session 4: A Still Attentiveness (25:30)—Using the example of the feeding of the 5,000 in John 6, Priscilla examines the need to be still enough to listen to God. Session 5: A Sold-Out Hunger (31:23)—Priscilla looks at the lives of Samuel (1 Samuel 3) and the blind man (Luke 18) who both knew the power of getting as close as possible to the manifest presence of God. This segment explains what the manifest presence of God is in our lives and how to draw close to Him as Samuel did. Session 6: A Servant Spirit (26:58)—Participants look at the sixth characteristic that allowed Samuel to hear from God — a servant's heart. Using the example of Jesus in John 13, this lesson explores what one must do to be a true servant. Session 7: Conclusion (16:06)—In this short session Priscilla concludes the study with some questions and discussion about what we do as a result of the truth we have heard.

Priscilla has been married to Jerry for 20 years. Between studying and writing, she spends most of her time cleaning up after (and trying to satisfy the appetites of) their three growing boys – Jackson, Jerry Jr. and Jude.

Priscilla Shirer never ceases to amaze me. This study 20 years later is so relevant. It is good for any age, at any time, for any walk. This book really fired me up to live a life for Christ.

I enjoyed this Bible study. The study walks through the story of Samuel. each chapter focusing on a different characteristic that aligned Samuel to hear feom God. God isn't looking for the spiritually elite to speak to, but for those that like Samuel have a child-like faith with dependency and trust in him, a single-minded worship, a holiness that sets us apart, to be still and close with God, to act as a servant and submit to him.

My main takeaways were...
- fearing the Lord means respecting him enough to follow, gaining knowledge and wisdom along the way.
-humility is being your best self for God's glory
-there is value in meditating on God's attributes
-we are ambassadors of Christ, act like it
-2 cor 4:17 our momentary light afflictions produce an incomparable eternal glory
-be still and pray, read the word- its another way God can speak to us
-Submit because Christ was willing to, to the point of death
-Submission is boundaries for our good and safety like putting a puppy in a kennel during the day to keep it safe and strengthen the relationship with the owner when they return.

Priscilla is a beautiful articulate faith filled author. Her videos are amazing! She is down to earth and gives practical examples. However, this book was a little too homework like for me. I would’ve preferred her first version. I think that wasn’t a workbook. That is why the three stars so if you go to read this one, think of if you want to be held accountable by doing a lot of writing or would you rather lay in bed and read?

I was unable to finish this study with my group at church. I finished it on my own. Some of Priscilla’s examples seem so innocuous, or even sheltered. My life has been sheltered in many ways but I wanted to scream I wish that is what my problems were!
