Michael Tavon's umpteeth poetry book but this one is different. This one will be his last for a very long time.A Home For Lonely Souls Vol. 2 Review
This updated version of A Home For Lonely Souls II is nothing less than a beautiful collection of heartfelt poetry. I found that personally a lot of the poems resonated with my soul. I also found that as an aspiring writer, that this collection inspired my own need and desire to write and eventually publish. My favorite section was the third section where the poems were inspired by request from the poet’s followers. There was a variety of subjects that somehow were still able to be tied and linked together. The first section was a collection of poems that were linked together by the themes of sadness and loneliness. The poem Solace talks about grieving and healing from brokenness something I have felt myself. A Request to Love Me More is a poem that truly touched my heart as I have struggled with self love for a lifetime. It talks about gaining the strength to get up and try in life to live and succeed.
"Obit. My twenties, died February 26, 2021 was a poem I could relate to oh too well as it speaks of aging and feeling how getting older affects you greatly. Aging is a hard tasks and mentally we are not all prepared to go through it. Tears and Elephants is a poem of hope that something good comes a long in life. Especially after dealing with battles of sadness, loneliness and depression. This collection of poetry is a true gem. As this book makes me feel inspired and seen. " -
Poetry is honestly such a nostalgic genre for me because I used to really love it as a teenager. Thank you so much to Mr. Michael Tavon for sharing his wonderful book. I loved this poetry collection for so many reasons. The main one is that I felt that with each poem, I was able to see a different part of his personality and the struggles he has had. I think my top 5 favorite poems have to be "I Don't Have a Title for This", "Aren't We Too Young to Die from Old Age?", "Bad Religion 2", "Duality"(honestly felt this one to my CORE). This poetry collection felt so real, personal and raw and truthfully I feel so honored to have been given the chance to read it!! Honorable Mention: "The Time I Cheated on My Barber" made me laugh :)
Michael Tavon will make you in love with his duality as he shines light on some of his darker thoughts. Ironically, his darker thoughts end up casting light that evokes the lightbulb moments within. As a reader, relating was no struggle. Accepting was no struggle. But opening the vulnerable side and letting the sad run rampant within me as I find myself walking either side by side or directly in his shoes was when I try to imagine him painting the picture in my head. Makes me wonder what was he seeing, or what was he going through as he seemingly goes through waves of highs and lows while ultimately snapping out of depression by the end of his expression. Yet, it is still an internal struggle that I can tell from reading Michael is still in the midst of fighting. Between life, passions, searching for love, feeling unfulfilled, and being grateful for what it was is a tidal wave in itself as, like the moon, comes in different phases. Accented subliminally between the book's opening poem “The Black Sheep” and the closing poem in the perspective of ”Poison”, I feel the struggle comes from just simply belonging as he makes reference to having the super power of being alone even in a crowded room of people he is close with. Titles such as “Sad Boy Anthem” and “I’m Nothing Like Jody” drew me in just from the title alone. I really found beauty in the introspective pieces such as “Obit:2nd Ave, Granny’s hood died. Approx. Summer 2015” and “aMUSEment Park” where if I had to quote something it would be the entire piece! This entire project gives me that Macy Gray feeling where the other side looks greener but committing in positive affirmation leaves everything in a neutral ominous vibe. Like, to be too positive is scary. Michael, thank you for such relatable content. Please know, you don’t have to “scratch and claw” to be heard because your writer's voice shines through. My recommendation, provide an audio book option in the future because pieces such as “ Sitcoms and other love” down to “Glass: A Broken Mess (Maya Angelou style poem)” really scream for performance. I highly recommend “A Home For Lonely Souls vol. 2” by Michael Tavon.
Favorite quotes:
-Perspective: Heart-Shaped pg106 “If this precious life of mine were wrapped in layers of silk and placed in a heart shaped box. Would you see my presence as a gift or a waste of time”
-Sweet Sensitive Soul pg105 “With a heart of glass and a mind of stone. When you exhale you feel alone. The days of blind hope are gone and now you long for a home where your heart belongs.”
-I Don’t Have a Title For This pg18 “Love is like water, it may slowly kill you when unfiltered, We live bewildered between the abstract and forbidden.”
-Fluent pg123 “My love language is caressing your body in ways that sends chills down your spine while making you’re skin warm at the same time”
-My Last Words on Earth pg112 “ We spend a lifetime running from something that will always catch up to us.”
-Rain Rain Go Away pg110 “ The sound of gods roar, followed by Jesus cry. We dared not to go outside.”
A Home For Lonely Souls Vol. 2 is the author’s second try at this poetry collection, where the author has been very honest about his perceived “failure” when publishing the collection the first time round. As I did not read this version I cannot comment, but having read Volume 2 I cannot agree with the author that he may give up writing poetry to concentrate on other pursuits. That would be a loss to the poetry community!
This poetry collection is split into three sections: Section I – the happy stuff, Section II – the sad stuff and Section III – the random stuff. Section III the author asked his friends on Facebook three questions and wrote poems based on these suggestions; 1. What poet should he write on the style of? 2. What moment in your life would you like him to turn into a poem? 3. Name an inanimate object of which the poem will be written in the perspective of.
As the sections suggest, the reader is taken on a journey of highs and lows as is life. We experience love, grief, heartbreak, imposter syndrome, racism, fear, bravery and so much more on this rollercoaster. Written from the male Black perspective it is so interesting as I have personally never read poetry from that point of view and found it refreshing. The author shows the masculinity that males (especially Black males) are faced with while rejecting the emotion that goes along with it.
I personally believe this is a beautiful, emotional, raw collection into the human soul and I felt all the emotions with it. I loved the Obits in the first section and Ode To’s in the second section and would have loved to have seen more of these consistently throughout the sections. This is my first poetry collection of 2025 and what a start! I look forward to seeing what the author writes next.
Here are a few of my favourite poems in each section, though it was hard to choose.
Section I – The Black Sheep A Home For Lonely Souls Sad Boy Anthem
Section II – Humour Your Heart After Listening To A James Baldwin Interview The Little Things
Section III – Glass: A Broken Mess (in the style of Maya Angelou) POV Poem: The Picture Frame Colour Me (A Painter’s POV)
Favourite Quote: Eternal Love "To find someone you can cuddle with. People watch with. Explore new restaurants with. Have roast sessions with. Sing in the car with. Vent with. Create with. Dance in the living room with. Is the key to keeping your heart forever young."
If I could describe Michael's work in one word, I would choose "cathartic". This book truly is a home for lonely souls - or really, any soul that is looking for a place of belonging, a place where their inner child and feelings are seen and validated. In reading his poems in 'A Home for Lonely Souls Vol. 2', Michael does a beautiful job baring his inner thoughts and feelings that very much echoed my own. If you've been through some difficult times, then look no further than exploring Michael's latest release - you won't be able to put it down.
My favorite pieces:
Ode To My Inner Child II - "My inner child is the visionary who believes all his dreams will come true. The feather who remained soft after being crushed".
Solace - "Hold me when I'm grieving, provide space as I heal. Bring the duality of your life, as I mend the broken pieces".
Plans For The Future? - "Reconnect with who I once was, so I can discover who I am destined to be. Attract my dreams, not chase them."
New Beginnings Don't Always Look Like Sunsets - "Your new beginning may not be pretty, and feels heavy and your weary heart as you trudge through the mud. But this is your chance to evolve from broken to hopeful".
The Empathetic Overthinker - "To delve too deeply and love too intensely may be a curse I would never wish to shed."
I found Michael's work on Facebook a year or so ago, while I was navigating a tumultuous and traumatic divorce (and, having 2 small children). Thus, my absolute favorite poem out of this entire work is "Ode to Single Mothers". The line that gutted me (but also made me feel very, very seen) is "There's nothing weak about being a mother. You are the stone that never breaks. The heart of a household."
Thank you, Michael. It's an honor to read your work!

4.25 ⭐️ I was given access to this collection of poems in return for my honest review. Michael Tavon starts this collection by saying to read his work with a full heart and open mind, so this is how I went into it. The collection is separated into three sections: 1) Lonelyesque Poems, 2) Happy Adjacent Poems, and 3) poems written in the style of modern or classic poets, POV poems, and moments in life from ideas submitted by followers.
These poems filled me with such a sense of comfort, familiarity, and reflection. I was able to relate to many of the poems from current and past experiences. Poetry provides such a unique way to connect with the words on the pages. Michael writes these poems in such a beautiful way that you have no choice but to feel something.
Below are some of my favorite exerts from the poems in this collection ✨
⭐️ Sometimes, optimism requires strength I don’t have for the day. My heart grows tired of pushing through A force that refuses to budge. A force more steadfast than I.
⭐️ So I choose life; I choose love. I choose hope. Because I’d be a damn fool To leave this Earth When I still have a fighting chance to be happy. I don’t want the final breath to exit my chest until I know good and damn well I gave this life Everything I had.
⭐️ Through it all, I hope you can See the beauty behind the darkness Allow the clouds of pain to reshape Your fate, so you can build the strength To escape yesterday’s gloom.
Lonely souls vol II The message from the Author was so raw and personal, it shows the scary side of being an author, a “failed book”. I love that you were open about this collection and didn’t give up on it. I hope you continue to write poetry but I will be keeping an eye out for everything else you are up too as well.
Favorite lines: 1. My words won’t plunge into quicksand 2. We tried while we were alive 3. Change is gonna come; I hope it looks for me 4. Grief will turn your heart into winter when you stop going outside 5. Depression loves to party too 6. This complex connection cuts deep like a c-section 7. While others turn their noses Like their shit smell like roses 8. You’re my air conditioner in the dead of June 9. Leave those insecurities in the rearview

Coldstar A Letter To The Lonely Souls Silly Lil Games Sitcoms and Other Love Skeletons Sweet Sensitive Soul Being A Poet Doesn’t Make Me a Punching Bag Before I Fall In Love Vol II Juke Joint Color Me ( A Painter’s POV)
Thank you for the opportunity to read your works, one of my favorite collections I have read in a while.
This isn't my first time reading something written by #michaeltavon, but I still felt just as excited reading this poetry collection.
Unlike some modern poets, Michael Tavon's way of putting together words aren't just random. I don't know how he does it, but somehow there's always a poem or two that I can completely relate to. I feel seen and reading this poetry collection felt like a warm blanket on a cold night.
Some of my favorite poems in this collection are: The Black Sheep, A Home for Lonely Souls, A Request To Love Myself More, Before It's Too Late To Apologize, A Letter From The Moon, Guilt's Chokehold, and Obit: imposture's syndrome.
Below are some lines from the poems I mentioned above that really resonated with me:
"I deserve to believe in myself again" "For some reason, you're convinced You don't deserve to feel less than okay When problems much bigger exist" "But crying makes you stronger than you'll ever know"
I hope Michael Tavon will continue to share his beautiful poetry with us.
If you're a sucker for beautifully written poetry, this book is definitely for you! Michael Tavon has done an amazing job incorporating so much emotion into his poems. His creativity shines through in poems like 'The Time I Cheated On My Barber', 'POV Poem: Picture Frame', and 'Monologue Poem: IT.' While, other poems, like 'Party at a Funeral' shows his ability to incorporate raw emotions many can relate to. The use of different sections within the poetry show the authors growth as they encounter deep sadness and loss, to love and happiness.
As a lover of poetry books, I can recommend this book to anyone who feels alone or unwanted in this world - because poetry can make us feel loved and make us realise we are not alone. 'A Home for Lonely Souls' encompasses so many emotions that a lot of people can relate to - a beautiful, yet tragic piece of writing.
I had so many that I liked but these stood outvthe most for me to highlight. Sad Boy Anthem, Tears and Elephants and Before it's too late to Apologize; hit home for me. These felt like an outlet for me, like someone put my unfiltered emotions into words. I appreciate all his writings and yes the tone can be a bit somber, depressed and dark. I strongly believe sadness is far stronger than happiness, I could rattle off far more levels of sad than happy and find these poems to be the truest form of expression for the male perspective. Before it too late to apologize, sounds just like my last talk to my now ex-wife and broke me. I think this book is for the healing, hurt and struggling with optimism; no sugar coated feeling just raw emotions and unfiltered thoughts. Like a best friend and I talking about life and no judgment.

„I fell in love with who you pretended to be but got broken by who you truly are“
This collection of poems broke my heart, gave me hope, made me feel seen and opened my eyes for topics I‘ve never really thought about before.
There’s „no point in playing the blame game because we’ll both lose, I‘m putting my heart on the table, it’s your turn to choose.“
Some of these poems are stuck in my head and I‘m happy to give them a rent free place to be.
I love reading poems but especially by men - it shows me how equal we all feel and are.
Thank you for sharing this with me & keep going your work! Even if it’s just for you & your friends or a few other people, I’m sure it will inspire someone 🫶🏽
This collection is filled with vulnerability, transparency, and authenticity. He writes with confidence, intention, and true passion. Everything flows so perfectly on each page. The yearning, the emotions, and the way he creates a beautiful masterpiece within every piece. I didn’t relate to everything I read but I did feel deeply as I read. I appreciate his art so much, and that’s what true art is.
Some of my favorite poems were:
A letter from the moon Obit: my twenties Obit: timeless music Party too: ghazal Almost love A letter to the lonely souls Nature is calling my name Little things My last words on earth Human nature: the poem
This anthology is very heartfelt. From childhood memories to the present time, it's about how the poet first feels low and slowly discovers himself. It's a great read overall. It covers all the aspects of the human life. From memories at the grandparents' to the void in the heart by not finding similar love and care in the adulthood, from being a black sheep to finding and loving oneself, it covers everything. The poet has done a great job! I only wish the cover could have been better. That's it! ✨️
Every single poem in this book was beautiful in its own way but there were a couple that hit me hard. Like in “Silly Lil Games” where he said “My love don’t miss, I’ll touch your skin, tag you’re it. Count to ten; let forever begin.” Or “Pourin” where he said “Just like rain tears don’t need permission to fall.” There are so many gentle but major reminders in this collection. About everything from life to love.
There are many poems in this book that are so relatable to the human experience. There’s one called “forever by your side” a love poem I’d definitely share with my fiance. There’s one called “a request to love myself” that’s going to be on repeat in my head like a mantra. This book is full of beautiful poetry. Worth the read!
A very rich and emotional volume of poems Mr. Tavon provides to his readers. I deeply enjoyed the poems, ‘Indolence’, ‘Duality’, ‘Homebody’ and ‘The Black Sheep.’ Truly a great poet!
Great book of poetry by Tavon. I especially enjoyed the "Obit" series. I can relate to the pain of watching an old neighborhood change and of growing older and watching youth fade.
