Recovering Redemption Bible Study guides you through the video teaching sessions from the Recovering Redemption Leader Kit and reinforces the powerful truths in Chandler's teaching. It also provides additional study and reflection on the three most significant parts of each session, helping you to internalize and apply these truths to your life.
All of us have a sense of dissatisfaction. And we typically look for solutions in four areas: self, others, the world, and religion. But none of these will satisfy. Recovering Redemption is about recovering what is lost and broken—our relationship with Jesus—because the gospel is the remedy to fix all things: every struggle, every circumstance, every relationship, everything.
In this 12-session study, Matt Chandler explains the implications of the gospel with surprising clarity and striking candor. Those who have been Christ followers for years will find that it helps connect the dots of their faith, serving as a bridge between salvation and maturity. It's also an essential study for new believers

Matt Chandler is the lead pastor of The Village Church, a multi-campus church in the Dallas metroplex of over 10,000 people. His sermons are among the topselling (free) podcasts on itunes and he speaks at conferences worldwide. Prior to accepting the pastorate at The Village, Matt had a vibrant itinerant ministry for over ten years where he spoke to hundreds of thousands of people in America and abroad about the glory of God and beauty of Jesus. He lives in Texas with his wife, Lauren, and their three children: Audrey, Reid and Norah.
A little while after joining the Christian church I'm currently attending, I got right into biblical counseling. My counselor gave me this book to work through in understanding what it means to be a Christian (born and raised a Catholic), and to work through some things in my past. Matt Chandler is an amazing pastor! I have loved every sermon and the daily study questions that followed. I'm actually passing this on my sister, who has recently asked me about learning more about Christ :)
Did Pastor Chandler write this Member Book himself? I notice Apostle's Creed was published 3 years AFTER this book and cites a co-collaborator. Perhaps accountability forced a recognition of the work of writers in publishing the sermons of mega-church pastors? I cannot tell.
Our small group discussed the weekly study, which is broken into 3 days of work. The three days is somewhat arbitrary as some "days" consist of about 10 mins of work, while others could take 40 minutes due to lists of passages to locate and analyze. We then would watch the video and have a brief prayer time afterward. Most of the principles discussed in the video are then incorporated into the study for the upcoming week.
I think the improvement was some combination of the following:
1) Our previous experience lowered our expectations for this installment of Pastor Chandler's teaching. Rather than being annoyed with his topical analysis completely untethered from any Scriptural reference, we anticipated it.
2) The topic of relationships in a hip self-helpy psychological presentation, is a strong one for Pastor Chandler, one might even say his strongest thematic.
3) Pastor Chandler leans heavily on the scholarship of other authors in this series. I never did go back to the Lesson 6 video to pull out the individual whose work he referenced on the difference between shame and guilt; I could not find any citation in this Member Book. Later lessons lean heavily into the work of Ken Sande, particularly this title:
4) I no longer used this study as a primary Bible study. I followed along to interact with the group, but devoted myself to meatier endeavors, specifically the highly recommended Bible Study Fellowship group/ curriculum.
My first ever Bible study, I thoroughly enjoyed doing this with my Manna group. The videos were great and the curriculum was very good each week. Recommended.
