I vaguely remembered enjoying "Red Dwarf" when it originally aired, but that was a long time ago. Reading "Stasis Leaked" took me right back. Its episode guide reminded me of the plots I'd forgotten and I was fascinated by all the behind the scenes information, pointing out things I'd never previously registered, and the people and the reasons behind them. I knew almost nothing about the failed American series, amongst other things and it was good to get the insider view on this. The book was informative and amusing, and inspired me to re-watch the whole thing from the very first episode. I had forgotten how good it was. Damn you, Jane Killick, I shall remain a couch potato for just a bit longer!

I've been reading Stasis Leak Complete by Jane Killick. I have to say I can definitely recommend this book to anyone that's either already a fan of the show or anyone discovering it for the first time thanks to Dave's repeats.
I did start the book with a certain amount of trepidation because as a fan of the show since the early days, I thought I knew everything there was to know about the show and I braced myself for reading the same old stories about behind the scenes Red Dwarf. I couldn't have been more wrong! While some of the old familiar anecdotes are present, Killick does concentrate more on untold stories, and several times (especially during one revelation about Kryten in 'Backwards') I had to rush to my DVD collection to check out an episode I thought I knew back to front.
Just about everything Red Dwarf related is mentioned in the book from all of the currently aired episodes to a write-up of the failed Red Dwarf USA pilot and promo, to the 'lost' episodes of Dwarf.
The main section of the book is an episode guide and each episode includes a brief synopsis, Killick's description of what she considers the funniest part (arguably) as well as well as a detailed behind-the-scenes description. And this is where the book really shines. While other episode guide books have been more about things spotted during the episodes, Killick's experience working as a journalist for various sci-fi magazines including Starburst and the Red Dwarf Smegazine means she has spent time on set during filming. Killick also gives equal page space to every episode meaning that even the least popular episodes (such as Meltdown) are given as much dedication as the fan favourites.
If I had one complaint about the book then it's the lack of photograph, but as an 'Unofficial Guide' then this is to be expected, and doesn't distract from the writing.
All in all this is a great companion piece to Red Dwarf and fits in well alongside any DVD collection and certainly the most complete Red Dwarf guide on the market at the moment.

I have been reading the E.Book version of Stasis Leaked Complete by Jane Killick.
This book is a must for any Red Dwarf fan! If you think you know it all then you are probably wrong I know I was.
I could not believe how much I had forgotten about the series, each chapter had me running to my DVDs partly because it made me desperate to re-watch the episodes I had just read about and partly to confirm Jane's accuracy (she always turned out to be right).
The style is easy to read and not at all dry as some guides can be. The personal touches which can only be made by someone who is not only well informed but who was actually there for some of the time make the book even more compelling.
The formatting on my smart phone was clean with none of the frustrating glitches that make some E.books hard to read.
All in all Stasis Leaked Complete is a fun, accurate, useful reference book for when you are out and about and feel the need to answer a Red Dwarf question or just want a chuckle remembering the episodes or discovering the behind the scenes madness that went into making one of British comedy's best shows.
P.S. Having the E.Book version I was able to download the updated version which includes chapters on the new series and have it straight away. Yay for E.Book format.

This is a very comprehensive guide to Red Dwarf, a good companion to have on the coffee table while watching the episodes. Each episode is covered with a cast list and summary of the story plus an article looking at what happened behind the scenes with quotes from key people, often writers Rob Grant and Doug Naylor. Also good are the extra interviews and articles including ones on the failed US pilot, the special effects and what happened to the movie project. All in all, a good addition to the bookshelves of any Red Dwarf fan.

This is not only a guide to all Red Dwarf episodes (all of them in-depth apart from 2012's Season X), but also includes essays and contemporary articles and interviews from the series' life.
Well worth reading if you're a fan of Red Dwarf.

Fans of Red Dwarf only. Some great insights into the production of the first series of Red Dwarf. A bit short at 77 pages, but an enjoyable read.
