Death is calling for round two... motives are incidental.
Cary Kruger thought the worst was behind her, but Meadowbrook isn’t done with her yet. Six years after the murders that changed everything, Sam Dahmer—the man who killed to save her—is back, and so is the body count. Sam swears he’s not the killer, but Cary doesn’t know who to believe—especially when her best friend Matt starts acting like a stranger.
As paranoia builds and buried secrets surface, Cary finds herself in a deadly spiral where trust is dangerous, love is lethal, and the line between friend and foe is razor-thin.
Slippery Slope is Scream meets Chucky—a twisted tale of betrayal, obsession, and blood-soaked survival where no one gets out clean.
This Book Is a MASTERPIECE—You Hear Me? MASTERPIECE.
Shelby Macabre gave this book her all, and it shows. It’s gory, it’s spicy, it’s murderous, and it’s deliciously eerie—and my little black heart devoured every bit of it like the horror fiend that I am.
The plot twists? Everything. And let’s not even get started on the Easter eggs because ohhh, they were glorious 👏. The attention to detail, the connections, the way it all ties together—absolute chef’s kiss.
And the Alex and Sam dynamic? The cherry on top of a beautifully twisted cake. And Alex’s comeback?! Spectacular. I did not expect it, but I loved it. That moment hit in all the right ways, and I was living for it.
The murder scenes? Phenomenal. The descriptions were so vivid, it felt like I was watching a 90s slasher horror film play out in my mind—nostalgic, cinematic, and absolutely dripping with suspense. This book nails the horror atmosphere while keeping it fresh, unhinged, and downright addictive.
Rory is a spicy new addition, and let me tell you—I love her sass. I need to see where her story goes next because she already has my full attention.
Honestly, I devoured this book. I always wondered whether or not I’d truly love horror books, but Shelby turned me around quicker than Ghostface spotting his next victim—and now, I am obsessed.
If you love 90s horror vibes, dark romance, and murder-mystery plot twists that will leave you reeling, this book is an absolute must-read. Actually, even if you don’t typically read horror—I’m still telling you to read it. This book is that damn good. Highly, highly recommend.
If you need a slasher romance that makes you feel like you are literally in a h0rr0r movie.. Shelby’s your author!
I love it when a book can make you question absolutely everything that’s going on, and the Folie A Deux duet is one of the best at that.
“Spooky’s what gives it charm. Every good house has a story. Ours just happens to be full of corpses.”
As soon as I dove back into the world of Cary and Sam and their friends, I felt like I was home again… and then the k!llings started and all I wanted to do was go back to my real home 🤣
“You look like you went twelve rounds with a meat grinder.”
The schmurder was top tier, the mind games and twists were even better. And Sam… my sweet sweet boy Sam has done nothing but steal my heart all over again 🥹
“Maybe next time, they can cast me as the killer instead of the victim. Think I could pull it off?”
If you love the Scream franchise this book will definitely be right up your alley.. just the dark creepy one with the masked k!let’s waiting at the end 🤷♀️ I don’t make the rules 😅
“The past has this way of sticking to you, like blood you can’t wash off your hands no matter how hard you scrub. And this year, it feels like a slasher villain—the kind that pops up just when you think you’re safe.”
Slippery Slope is the sequel to Red Herring and takes place six years later. All of your favorite characters are back in this Scream meets Chucky slasher romance. New, old, and unexpected characters aren’t safe from the crazy killer. Or is there more than one?!
This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading. Just when I thought I knew what was going on another twist came at me out of nowhere! Gory, twisty, suspenseful, steamy everything you could possibly want in a book! Highly recommend reading! Make sure you read Red Herring before diving in!
“He lifts a white box to his mouth. “Sorry about your boyfriend,” stepping closer, he adds, “All those muscles didn’t help much.”
The rules for a sequel were definitely followed in this book. If you've read Red Herring, hold on to your horses because this book will have you questioning everything you thought you knew. New characters are introduced, some will make it, some won't. Kill counts are up. The characters you loved from the first book, reprise their roles in this one. And some unexpected twists will have you gasping for air. Whatever you do, don't throw a Halloween party and you might be safe, but it's doubtful
I am obsessed and I need more. I am fully committed to this series now and I can't wait to see what Shelby comes up with next!
Shelby Macabre took the sequel rulebook, doused it in gasoline, and set it on fire. If Red Herring had you gripping your seat, Slippery Slope is about to send you flying off it. More kills? Absolutely. More plot twists? You bet. More reasons to never, EVER throw a Halloween party? Consider this your final warning.
Alex is back and proving once again that fictional serial killers have the same survival rate as cockroaches—indestructible. Just when Cary thought she could breathe six years post-massacre, Alex Dahmer rises from the ashes with a vengeance. And just when you think you’ve cracked the mystery—ha! You sweet, naïve soul. You haven’t. The plot twists wear Ghostface masks, the tension is kill-or-be-killed, and the smut? Unhinged and absolutely chef’s kiss.
This book is the perfect mix of ’90s slasher nostalgia, psychological warfare, and spicy what-the-actual-fck* moments. If you like your horror with a side of paranormal, your romance messy, and your serial killers disturbingly charming, congratulations—this is your new obsession.
If you loved Ms. Macabre’s first book, you’re going to die for Slippery Slope. Do not sleep on grabbing this one when it releases, or you’ll regret it...
In the sequel to “Red Herring,” we return to the café, where we experience a déjà vu of Cary Kruger’s pre-Halloween jitters. Surely, this Halloween will be better for poor little Care Bear. After all, it’s been six years since that fateful post-Halloween nightmare in the woods...right?
Wrong. This time, Cary’s nightmares are catching up with her, and they’re more unhinged than ever. With her sister (who turns out to be a badass by the way) by her side, she can’t lose...right?
The atmospheric settings, the suspense, the wild and frantic emotional roller coaster, and the love triangle that will not stop rearing its naughty head had me in a chokehold from the word go. Did I mention I was suspicious of everyone?
I received this book as an ARC and I was immediately drawn into the story line. I really liked how it left off where the last book ended. I honestly liked how it started off slow and eventually built up to the intense story. I was definitely not expecting that ending, but I LOVED it. It was the perfect way to end the story. I was sad to see Cary and Matt’s story end, but I’m literally all for Sam.
I was definitely not expecting Cybil to take part in all of the chaos, but it honestly made sense for her too. I had this weird feeling that she was in on some parts, but I wasn’t expecting her to be that deep into it. Literally being with Alex. WTF! Honestly Sam’s the better choice not going to lie there. This book was absolutely intense and insane. I literally read it in one sitting and loved every minute of it. I also liked how there was more murder in this one. I highly highly recommend. I would give it 10 out of 5 stars if I could!

Mindf❥kery in the best of ways. Slippery Slope by Shelby Macabre follows Red Herring six years later, and if you thought you knew, you didn’t. Plot twists galore, each one throwing whatever theory you had come up with right out the window. I didn’t think I could adore Sam more yet here I am. Cary smart, sassy and still making questionable decisions. Matt is oh so suave’ with his smooth sense of humor that makes him the perfect slasher story guy. I really liked Rory with her sarcasm and feisty spirit that’s on point. I will not give one ounce of the story away because the mayhem, slashing, suspenseful, murderous gore must be thoroughly enjoyed as intended. I really loved the main character twist that leads to an unexpected love triangle. This had me feeling quite uneasy, but also felt it was heart pumping sexy. All I can say is if you enjoy old-school slasher horror with some sexy af spice and heart pumping wtf’s, then this is for you. I cannot wait to see what comes next.
These books are slasher movies wrapped up in a book and they always deliver. This is a continuation from book one, Red Herring, which is six years after the events of the Halloween Massacre that changed the lives of Cary and her friends…..or at least the friends that made it.
The Killer is dead and the one who killed him is behind bars. Six peaceful years pass, Cary finds herself in an unexpected relationship with Matt, but she frequently thinks about Sam who she hasn’t seen since that night.
Six years have passed, so surely that’s enough time passed that a Halloween party would be a good idea, right?
Wrong.
So, so wrong…..
One more Halloween Party…..
How many more Deaths….
Who can you trust?……
And who’s behind the mask that will leave you questioning everything?
I highly recommend these books if you love slashers and you love your horror bloody and with some added spice.
Oehhh it just gets better and better! 6 years later and Cary and Matt have moved on with their lives, but something still gnaws at Cary, memories of Sam that keep popping up. Matt being the guy who tries to keep everything afloat, while Cary, I really don’t like her stringing Matt on, still pining over Sam. Then… Sam comes back, and death starts creeping in again. Twists and turns on who the killer is, Sam’s mental problems, and a mysterious killer copycat? Yeah, lovely slushie material in this book!! The 🌶️ was elaborate, certain scenes tho where I did a smh cause tsktsk Cary Cary, choices choices, not winning any points there from me. But the scenes itself were nice tho🫣🫣
All in all a good 5/5⭐️ Off to the last installment we go! #arc #arcreader #arcreview #bookreview #fyp #book #books #booktok #booklover #instagram #bookgram #slasherbooks #shelbymacabre #slipperyslope @Shelby Macabre - Author 📚
Shelby Macabre is back at it, twisting knives (and minds) in Slippery Slope!
Think Red Herring was a wild ride? Buckle up, because book 2 takes the slasher chaos to a whole new level.
Imagine 90’s slasher vibes—complete with k!ller Easter eggs—merged with modern twists, psychological thrills, and, oh yeah, some spicy brotherly drama.
“He’s… there. In mirrors, in my head. Laughing. Taunting me. I can’t make him stop.” -Sam
Guess who’s back? What happens when revenge gets this personal? Let’s just say it’s messy, deadly, and absolutely brilliant.
Shelby Macabre is the scream queen of slasher romance, and I’m OBSESSED. I can’t wait to see what she has planned next.
**Trigger warnings apply—this series is for readers who can handle the heat, the horror, the emotional damage, and dare I say the cannibalism.**
Alex returning for another round of stalking, plotting and murder was exactly what I needed to hear or read I guess lol Do the evil serial killers really stay dead in a horror flick? No. Why did I think this would be any different? 😂
Just when Cary kinda sorta gets settled 6 years after the massacre of her friends, horror in the form of ALEX DAHMER reincarnated sets in. When you think you have the “unknown” figured out… no the F you don’t!! The plot twists are hidden behind ghost face masks. The vibe is kill or be killed. The smut is delicious. The 🔪🔪 are unhinged. Just the way we like it!
If you like classic horror films (and a paranormal twist). This is for you!
The perfect follow up to Red Herring 🙌🏻
Thank you Shelby for sharing your twisted mind with me 🖤
Whew. What a read!! It was intense in the best way possible. Definitely emotional (for me anyhow) because I get so invested into the characters I fall in love with. The female characters are sassy , as well as strong… with maybe a touch of psycho. But the male characters… they throw you for a loop. Wise advice told to me was guard your heart… I wasn’t quite prepared. I cannot wait to see what is in store next for Cary , Rory and even Sam. Please if you know what’s good for you , you will read this book.

Still reeling from this book but promise not to spoil it . 6 years later life has gone on ....some it is a daily reminder others it was the past and move forward. Then the famous halloween party, and it all goes to hell lol. I was paranoid and suspecting everyone haha. I was sooo enthralled yet again and couldnt put it down..10/10 recoomend 5 on spicy moments 100 on the sarcastic quips as always.
This was a wild ride. For many of us horror buffs, the sequel in a series can feel redundant in plot and predictable. However, this sequel was anything, but. I found myself utterly shocked, laughing, and grossed out in the best way possible. The twists were well done, and this series is highly recommended!
This one was a fun ride! I felt like at times it was pure chaos and then other times it was making me laugh. I just freaking love Sam and it was so nice to get more spice out of this book! Some parts of the book fell a little flat for me with the whole “malignant” thing going on but over overall I genuinely really enjoyed this book!
This one was just absolute *chefs kiss*🤌🏻 There wasn't a single moment where I knew what was going to happen next, Shelby kept me on the edge of my seat, heart pounding, salivating, waiting to find out what was going on with the characters. I DEVOURED this one, and it was everything I wanted to continue their stories.
When I thought book one was enough to make my little horror movie loving heart happy, book two went and demolished that thought. As a horror fanatic, this series has been amazing to read! The story line, the references, and the spice all with the added elements of classic horror. I have absolutely loved every second!
This is the sequel we all needed! I am so insanely happy with how this went and it had everything from the first as well as so much more! I loved the new characters that were introduced and how the Dahmers were tied back in.
If you are looking for a happy story THIS IS NOT THE ONE!!
Perfect perfect perfect pallet cleanser for me!! If you loved the first book in this series (which how could you not) you’re going to love this one even more! Between the suspense, spice and unpredictability it’s so good! The character matt just p!sses me off but 100% would read again !!
Obsessed! I couldn’t put this book down! I devoured it! If you love horror or slasher films, then you should definitely read this series! Shelby Macabre has done it again.
Rules of a sequel apply here! Omg the way I was questioning everything in this book! If you love Slashers this is your series and Shelby will be your queen! Bow before her!
🎵"Guess who's back, back again"🎵.... Six years after Red Herring was set, life has moved on—until the infamous Halloween party brings the chaos all over again... This delivers ALLLLL the ‘90s slasher vibes with modern twists, and plenty of spicy brotherly fun 🖤
Shelby Macabre once again proves she’s THE scream queen of slasher romance; blending suspense, sharp humor, and irresistible tension. The atmospheric setting, gripping twists, and a love triangle that won’t quit had me on edge, suspecting every single person.
If you loved the first book, you neeeeed this sequel.
Slippery Slope is the continuation of the storyline in Red Herring. We come back to the characters 6 years later and watch the development of the story as Sam is released from prison and comes back to find Cary whose now in a relationship with Matt. But when killings start up again and all fingers point towards Sam but others start asking shady, nobody knows who to believe or trust! I felt like this was a good addition to the story we had in Red Herring and I liked how the characters developed over the years between books 1 and book 2. I struggled some with paranormal-esque developments that were brought into the storyline as I just didn't vibe with it since it didn't quite match with the slasher vibes I had gotten from book 1 so it just threw me off connecting with the story towards the end.
The first thing I want to say, is that Red Herring (be sure to read this one first) and Slippery Slope made my horror loving heart so happy. I absolutely loved the second book of this story and how it progressed from the first one.
Taking place 6 years later, it takes you on a wild journey of twists and turns. Your favorite old characters are back along with some new ones thrown into the nightmares of Meadowbrook.
Shelby did an excellent job bringing in little snippets of lines and the original slasher movies while keeping you on the edge of your seat the entire time.
If you’re a horror lover who loves masked men… this book is for you!
