A collection of ghost stories about a haunted Pennsylvania railroad station located between two cemeteries. The book is conceptually a "book within a book" in Kuenning's novel "Farmington! Farmington!" written by a character in that book and presenting both gripping tales and a novel theory of what ghosts are and where they come from. The stories take place in the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries and are related to each other and to the Farmington, Maine of "Farmington! Farmington!" The text also includes new parodies of well-known folk songs.
I feel as if this book was really good, but I still feel like it was missing something… I can’t quite put my finger on it however the subject matter about ghost trains is quite unique and I really liked how it followed a plot line! I love how all the stories/chapters built off each other, and at the end we were left with a cohesive narrative that helped explain everything that happened and why exactly these ghost trains were happening. I just wish it was a little bit more cohesive however this may be because it’s from a collection from a bigger book.
I liked it a lot. This book should be read after "Farmington! Farmington!" if possible, but if not possible it is eminently fast-paced and readable on its own terms.
