Job security isn’t something Addison is all that concerned with.
Death, however? Yeah, death is a major concern.

After Addison finds a nearly-dusted vampire in the garbage outside her building, her ability to stay off the paranormal radar is deader than the vamp. Almost as dead as she’ll be if anyone thinks she put him there. Even though she’s basically shoving a stake into her own chest, she has no other choice but to get him indoors before he dusts in front of a human. And just when she thinks life couldn’t possibly get any worse, she finds out who he is.

As vampire king and Prime to all races of supernatural beings in this zone, Rhyse gets what he wants when he wants it. But after being ambushed, he wakes up chained to a bed with a hole in his chest and, unfortunately, he needs help to discover who tried to kill him. His only ally is his captor, someone unaware she has the power to bring down their entire world.

While a prophesized war brews in the Heights, Addison and Rhyse must decide which carries more risk—trusting someone who could destroy you or trusting someone who could love you?

* * *
The Heights not only protects the secrecy of vampires, shifters, demons, angels, and other supernaturals, it protects the humans unaware of the world hidden within their own.

4 Lauren Stewart* Stars

*Lauren Stewart book: Kickass, hilarious, fantasy book with a tremendous, shatter-your-heart-to-pieces cliffhanger *evil smirk*

description

It's a strange new world

Forget what you know about the world. It's a new reality out there where humans live happily unaware of the supernatural beings among them. Vampires, werewolf, fae, angels, demons and witches are among them and peace is fragile and the balance of power precarious. At the bottom of the food chain are seers, left to do the dirty work, in truth slave to the powerful creatures.

Addison is a seer with real problems and a staked vampire Prime in her bed. Thus our story begins filled with constant bickering and incredibly sweet moments, steamy romance and an amazing worldbuilding where every character has his exact place and role to play. But let me go back to sexy.

"You have been mine since the moment I opened my eyes and saw you."

description

Addison and Rhyse are unlike partners in an attempted murder investigation where the top dog meets the bottom of the food chain, prophecies are coming to pass and the world will never be the same.

"Your smile is so beautiful. If I could I would change the world to your liking so it would never fade."

But despite their growing feelings they are on opposite sides of a war that is brewing for years and their time has not yet to come.

description

I once again applause Lauren Stewart's ability to write complex stories about interesting characters. Keep us on our toes and destroy us with endings that leave us needing more. If it weren't for the slow beginning I would have 5-starred this story. I can't wait for the next installment of the Heights.

Coming home after work Addison finds a vampire lying near her garbage that has been staked but whoever had attacked him had missed his heart. In order to hide the fact there is an injured vampire from her human neighbor Addison brings the vamp into her home and chains him to her bed while she tries to figure out what to do with him.

Addison never expected when she brought a vamp into her life she was rescuing the vampire king and leader of the supernatural world, Rhyse. Rhyse had been attacked in an assassination attempt but when they failed he never expected to need help from a helpless human girl. But Rhyse soon finds that Addison is far from human which is also news to her too.

Unseen is a mixture of urban fantasy and paranormal romance and is the first book in a new series that features a wide variety of different races of supernatural beings such as vampires, werewolves, witches, seers, angels and demons. This first book is the beginning introducing Addison and Rhyse but each after will contain different couples but continue the story in this world.

I actually really enjoyed this read quite a bit. The one thing I'd say I'd liked to have seen more of is a little less focus on the romance and more on the prophecy and the world these characters are a part of. There was a lot of back and forth between Addison and Rhyse since they are complete opposites but eventually it became a steamy relationship which I didn't mind but I felt it didn't quite balance the time spent focusing on just them and the rest of the story. Enjoyed it just the same and would definitely pick up more books in this series.

Overall, great start to an adult mixture of urban fantasy and paranormal romance series.

I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Yay!

This book was really cool, it was so much more than a typical, vamp/human(ish) (Seer actually) romance. Really liked the plot and the world builder, made me want to read more of this series, see what happens next.

Even more, I admire the author's courageous ending.

It's definitely a book worth reading!

I'm really excited about this one. It was an adventure I never saw coming and that I now can't see ending any time soon. :)

After finishing the Hyde series, I decided to do something simpler. When that plan completely failed, I somehow found myself writing five, very complicated books simultaneously, with the potential for more! I had to do it that way because the world building is such a large part of the series and needed to be set from the very beginning. So my brain has been aching for months and months now. On the bright side, though, I now have four other books that will be ready much sooner.

I enjoyed the story enough to check out the next book, however, I found myself rather bored, sometimes confused by some of the actions and scenes but maybe they were not so confusing and I was just doing this

at the time.

Some scenes I felt were long and just drawn out, where others were just ho-hum, and I found my mind wondering off thinking about what I'd make for dinner or if I should paint the living room blue or slate grey. The idea of the book was good, I generally like this type of storyline so I will give the next book a look-see.

I needed some fantasy read and it seemed one of my Goodreads friend enjoyed this one so, why not? I did not know Lauren Stewart but the book was cheap and I would not take a great risk.

Good move as I enjoyed it, a lot!

Addison is the kind of heroine I like: the sarcastic kind. Yes!

Addison is a Seer, the lowest race among supers. They don’t buy glamour and see the vampires, werewolves, demons, angels, witches, etc. for what they are, that’s their sole ability in this world of “higher” races.
As a Seer, you don’t have a glorious lot. You can be the super’s toy and they get to use and abuse your body and soul for their pleasure. You can clean the mess aka transform dead super bodies in dust and avoid human real nightmares. Or you can be a historian. See, nothing glamorous. You’re at the other super’s mercy really.

Addison lives every day in fear: fear for her safety, for her broken mom’s future and for her friend’s life. She tries to go unnoticed and do her duty as part of the clean-up crew.
But everything changes when she discovers a nearly dead(er) vamp’s body at her door, right in her garbage. He’s been stabbed but still “live”. She can’t let him on the street to be discovered by human and she does not dare kill him. So chain him to her bed she will, with silver necklaces. That’s how resourceful or desperate she is.

When her really handsome vampire will come to his senses, she discovers she is deep in the sh** as he is the Prime, the vampire king, ruler of all supers in North America. Rhyse, the vampire, is more than three centuries old and has lost all humanity. Cold, detached, bored he wants to use Addison to discover who stabbed him and then, kill her, preferably after ravishing her.
That’s his plan until he tastes her blood and discovers she is part of an extinct race of super. A race so threatening for all other supers it had to be eliminated.

So he’ll kill her but only after she helps him. What? No, he’ll always protect her… Wait, what’s happening to him? He can’t fall for her, she is the ultimate weapon and yet… Rhyse is very conflicted as the more he is in Addison’s company, the less he wants to hurt her.

Soon, he’ll sacrifice everything for her safety. Rhyse, the cold and no longer human ruler is regaining some of his humanity.

Addison is frightened by her feelings for Rhyse. He is a vamp, THE vamp and they can’t have feelings. She’ll only be his flavor of the week or of the month but she could never be anything more, right?

They both struggle against their connection but some things are unavoidable.

This story is not only a romance and many things happen. They still have to discover who tried to kill Rhyse, what the prophecy (yes, of course there is a prophecy!) entails and what their future holds. As they try to find answers, things get fuzzy. Plots, betrayal and grand plans pave the way for a second book.

I loved Addison’s sarcastic spirit. She wields no real useful power and will find herself in very dire situations where she’ll have to use her wits and brain to find a solution. She is resigned at first, conscious of her lot and does not want to make waves but as the story progresses, she dreams big. She’ll be her race salvation or die trying. But she also wants to be with Rhyse and hard choices will be made.
She was loyal and courageous. The kind of “girl next door” with a tad more magic, forced in nightmarish situations and discovering she really is strong underneath everything.

I also loved Rhyse’s transformation. From a cold hearted hot vamp ruler he opened his eyes, saw many things he chose to ignore and veered from contemptuous super to Addison’s champion. He acknowledges his feelings and even if they frightened him, he chose to embrace them.

The many events, twist and turns taking place also helped keeping me glued to my Kindle all along.

You can say I’m happy I bought that book as I discovered a new fantasy writer I’ll be happy to follow.

Can you relate, you only know a handful of authors that are always on your auto-click? That you can trust these authors that they deliver a great story that draws you in, no matter what the plot setting is? That these authors just don't disappoint you but leave you wanting more?

Yeah such author is Lauren Stewart to me; her books are on my auto-click since I've read and dearly loved her Hyde serial -which is btw aaahamazing!!

Even though I beta read Unseen and I know she made some changes afterwards (thanks for that listening to me bitching muhaha) I can say that this book is a 5 star read for me. With the Heights she created another parallel world where PNR beings and mankind live side by side without knowing each other - accept some 'lucky humans' that do.

Book 1 in the Heights serial serves as a wide introductory and some might be overwhelmed with the names and different characters but trust me, it is necessary. She really threw them all in - Vamps, Weres, Witches,... you name it, and I freaking loved it. It's important that you pay attention to the 'side' characters because everyone mentioned in this book is there for a reason -he/she has a purpose!!

Unseen is to 90% about Addison and Vampire King Rhyse aka Prime to all races of supernatural beings. I loved this dude; I've a serious weakness for bloodsucker and Rhyse is seriously yummy to look uhm, read about. He and Addison experience something that shouldn't have happened (and the King IS surprised about his new-found interest for this weakling, or so he thought)but who both can neither deny or withstand.

Lets be clear, these two don't have a fairytail love story BECAUSE Addison sees things that make her tummy turn and she has no other choice as to choose at the end - Rhyse or her race.

Don't worry, the serial is set out that we still see Addison and Rhyse throughout the books (Lauren better keeps my Vamp in the picture *shakes fist*) while the other characters get their spotlight ;)

Am I excited for this series?? TOTALLY!!!
I love Lauren's writing style - it's sassy, snarky, suspensful (if needed), and flawless.

Needless to say: CHECK THIS STORY OUT!

Kindly received a free copy from the author

So the main reason I wanted to read this was because the last book I read of Lauren Stewart was just beyond amazing. Being a fan of the classical story of Hyde and Jekyll, when I saw a modern interpretation of it I was super excited and that book did not disappoint me.

But........ I'm not sure of this one. Yep it was good compared to other boring supernatural stuff out there and I did give it a four star review, my thoughts are still a mess. I mean I loved it as far as the story went and the characters were cool but something didn't completely click with me. Maybe it was cuz I took more time to read than normal (which normally make me not like the book as much as I want to). Compared to the Hyde series, I did not like this one as much as that.
Still I completely intrigued and can't wait to read the second book in the series.

One Gorgeous Seer with Attitude, Snark, MORE Attitude, who would rather “dust” a vampire than “trust” a vampire– Check!

Elegantly regal and, well-snobbish, HOT Vampire King who just happens to be the Prime ( leader of ALL of the supernatural races )– Check! (Seriously, go BIG or go home, right?)

Perish the thought that with a series name like “The Heights,” this is NOT some upscale neighborhood soap opera; this isn’t even love at first bite for Addison and Rhyse. But how could Addison know that the staked and bleeding vampire practically on her doorstep would turn her world upside down and inside out! Talk about having your work “follow” you to your doorstep!

Just what was Fate thinking putting these two together as Addison goes from vampire duster to vampire nursemaid? Will Rhyse be grateful or will his pompous attitude grate on Addison’s nerves? Trouble is brewing in the Heights, a prophecy seems to be coming to pass, one being will have the power to take down the world with their blood…and they don’t even know it! And, come to think of it, who tried to kill Rhyse? Prepare yourself for an unlikely dynamic duo to rise up against the darkness that is coming, but first they have their own issues to work out. Is it possible to NOT trust the very person you are in denial about falling in love with?

unseen by Lauren Stewart is hot, sweaty and hysterical as two supernatural beings from opposite ends of the power spectrum try to figure out whether they should make love or war. Lauren Stewart has taken a popular genre and carved out her own piece of the pie, a piece that is sure to get a lot bigger in the future. Her bold writing style and her ability to bring even a vampire to life makes her a force to be reckoned with in the literary world! You like great dialogue and scenes that will have you alternately reaching for the smelling salts or clutching your stomach in laughter? Let Addison, Rhyse and Lauren Stewart entertain you, all while trying to save the world.

Holy shit. Yeah, you heard me right. This book totally blew my mind. I enjoy reading creative paranormal stories that create a whole world on its own. And this one here is one of the best. Forget anything you knew about the world of supernaturals. Forget what you read about vampires or demons. "Unseen" paints a new picture of the supernatural world, making it so much more interesting and mind-blowing.

Lauren Stewart created a world so detailed, so intense, that you will feel like you are living in it. And what a world it is to live in. Vampires, demons, werewolfs and other supernaturals roam the Heights, having created their own world withing the human one and their own system, that is not only meant to protect them from exposure to the human world, but also from each other as well as the humans from them. The system seems to work - at least as long as you don't take a closer look. The system works for the ones that have the power. The lower races on the other hand are more or less prisoners of their world. That goes for seers as well - the ones that can spot and identify supernaturals.

Addison is a seer - or so she thinks. Having adjusted to the life she is forced to live, she tries to make the best of it. She knows keeping her head down and doing her job will ensure she stays alive. Dreams of a happy future or freedom to do what she wants and where she wants are not something she indulges in. She lives her life day in and day out doing what she is paid for - managing to be thankful for what she has as she knows things could be way worse as they are for some of her friends. She mistrusts anyone non-human, knowing that a human life does not hold any worth to supernaturals.
Her attitude is tested to the core when she stumbles upon a nearly staked Rhyse, the vampire king. The guy that holds all the power in the Heights. As she is unsure what to do, she ends up with him in her apartment trying to get him back to strength and right back out of her door. What she forgets though is things aren't this easy and sometimes no matter how unreasonable it might seem, attraction and feelings might be stronger than logic. This is exactly what happens to her when it comes to Rhyse. She feels drawn to him like a moth to the fire - knowing the chances of burning to ash are quite high. She is caught up in the back and forth of her own feelings - falling for him, yet not able to trust him or let him in. Living as independently as the Heights allow, being her own boss and staying true to herself, it is hard for her to deal with his domineering, possessive and bossy attitude. She is strong and doesn't back down, standing up to him regardless of possible consequences.
But when the truth about her life is revealed and the safety of the world is at risk, it is Rhyse she can depend on. It is Rhyse who is willing to save her no matter the consequences to his life.
Rhyse, who hasn't loved or cared about another being for hundreds of years is suddenly realizing there are still emotions left in his undead body and soul. Waking up in Addisons apartment, he is totally out of his comfort zone when confronted with a foul-mouthed, feisty and disobedient Addison. Used to people obeying his every command and fulfilling his every wish and need, he is in for quite a shock to learn Addison does not give a damn about what he wants. While at first planning her death once she has helped him find out who tried to stake him, he soon learns that this will not be an option for him. After learning her secret and realizing she is stirring emotions in him he believed long lost, he is hell-bent on protecting her from anything and anyone that might cause her any harm. Lacking the emotional finesse after being a heartless jerk for centuries, he can come across as a cavemen with megalomaniac tendencies. So a human that stands up to him and simply doesn't give a crap about what he wants or thinks baffles him to the core - and makes him more than just intrigued with Addison.
But just as they realize that love can work despite differences that might have seemed to be impossible to conquer, the fact that things aren't what they seem in the Heights is highlighted as some supernaturals are willing to stop at nothing in order to gain power - threatening the lives of not only Addison and Rhyse, but other supernaturals and humans as well.
In the end, will their love be strong enough to conquer the dangers? And will it be strong enough to survive Addison finding her true calling and standing up for what she believes in?

Trust me, it is worth finding out. The story is written with so much charm and sweetness, lots of fantasy and paranormal awesomeness, humour and sarcasm as well a decent amount of swearing - which can always win my heart. There are hot angels, vampires and demons that will make you swoon and will make your panties melt. And there is sex that will make you spontaneously combust. But there is also a more serious undertone to it all, with lessons to be learned - lessons about power, love, equality, discrimination and about following your calling.

Lauren Stewart has created a masterpiece that I was sad to leave behind upon finishing the book. I cannot wait for the sequel and am looking forward to learning more about the Heights.

Now, stop reading my review, go one-click the book and allow yourself to be transported into a whole different world.

5+ demon, angels, vampires and everything in between stars.

Well...where do I start?...Overall, the storyline is quite good. I'm not a big fan of the 'one couple per novel' series, but I'm intrigued with the author's idea of multiple POV's in the series. I just hope that the next books will have more of Addison's and Rhyse's POV than "Unseen" had of the other characters who aren't the primary focus in this novel. I also felt like some of the fight and sex scenes were missing some parts - you know like when a movie is censored and it's been done a very poor job of it.

Rhyse made the story

Addison was likable but as the story moved on and she blundered through things she quickly grew unlike able. She stumbled through the story like she had a blind fold on. She kept putting people in danger and then crying to save them. As a heroine, she was terrible. As a comic relief she did well. Rhyse was better. He lost his character quite a few times but when you realize that it was because the love he felt for Addison ran mondo deep, it helped to understand his sudden character change. In the end, I didn't end up liking Addison. Unfortunately, this was not a HEA. I'd like to continue the story but the writing was very jerky. If that's a word. For example, something would be going on and suddenly you'd be jerked into another direction in the story. It happened a lot. The twists and turns became a distraction because I'd be reading a passage and suddenly that subject dropped dramatically and unsolved and I was then thrown into another scenario. It's an interesting world. I'm leaning towards reading the next book only because Davyn was extremely funny and I can only imagine how entertaining his book will be.

Honestly I don't know what to make of this book...I couldn't put it down but it was so weird lol. I kept picturing Eric and sookie from true blood when reading it. I don't know why but I can just see these two acting like them lol. Stuffy and kinda uptight vamp and a smart ass girl. I will totally admit though she had me LOLing at a ton if parts!! He did too!! It was funny! The part where she "moved, bent and wiggled" when she got into the clothes he picked out and she said "hear that? That's the sound if me getting murdered running yor little errand" I busted out laughing so loud!!
It was not what I was expecting but it was good...

This one is pretty awesome. And I'm sure the final version will be even better!

Edit: Yep, finished this the second time, and enjoyed it just as much. The add-on's were spot on and the little nits satisfying. Lauren does have a thing for roller-coasters, though, so prepare for quite a ride.

The world building is excellent, the plot fun and easy to follow and the characters are very well rounded. Looking forward to the next installment (and actually anything Lauren will chuck at me)

I was so fortunate to win an ARC of Unseen. It's different than the Hyde series, yet similar in many ways...interesting paranormal story arc, lots of great characters, an absolute to-die-for hero, loads of sexual tension, and just the best banter between the hero and heroine. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

**I would like to thank Netgalley, Patchwork Press and the author Lauren Stewart for a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion**

Unseen is the first in The Heights series. It's a Paranormal Romance, that is Kick ass, funny and entertaining, with a hidden Paranormal world, called the The Highworld aka The Heights. In this world there's humans, seers and supernaturals called supers by the seers. Addison is a seer, seers were humans who died and came back as seers, now being able to see the paranormal.

Like any other day, Addison was coming home from work after a day of disposing dead supers. She finds a half dead vampire in her garbage. She doesn't know if she should leave him and let the sun burn him, risking humans seeing him, or bring him in and kill him in her apartment. Well she doesn't get a choice when a neighbor sees her and helps bring the "drunk guy" in, putting him on her bed. Add doesn't know what to do other than to chain him to her bed. The vampire isn't happy when he wakes up. All he thinks about is killing Add. Soon after Add learns that she has Rhyse, the King of the vampires and Prime of The North American zone chained up to her bed with bracelets and necklaces, that isn't good. She also learns that she is more than just a seer. She's someone the supers fear and will kill if they find out what she is. Now her life is in danger. Rhyse thinks maybe she can help him figure out who tried to kill him and in return he'll help her learn how to Shield her mind from the supers who can easily read her mind and see who she is. Through out the book they fight their attraction and feelings towards each other with funny and sarcastic banter. And through an Oracle, they learn more about what Add is and of a prophecy that Add has a major role in. A prophecy that involves bringing down the supernatural.

Unseen begins with how everything works, what is what, who is who. We learn more about this world and about the characters. Addison and Rhyse are completely the opposite but they have to work together to get what they want. They argue and they fight but they have such great chemistry. It's funny how at first Rhyse doesn't have a sense of humor so when he says a joke its so funny and I think adorable cus it shows he's been hanging around Add too much and catching her sassyness. :-) I like that they grew on each other, there were times when they still wanted to kill the other, but their feelings started growing and developing. I really like that they weren't all over each other right away, they got to know each other and went through some things before anything happened. That's always a plus for me, cus I don't like when the characters start making out or sleep together after just meeting. The whole insta love thing, isn't my thing, oh okay its cute sometimes. The characters changed through out the book. Even though Rhyse is hundreds of years old, he's learning about what is really going on in the Heights, he's caring and learning what love is.

Addison was funny and sarcastic. She was always messing with Rhyse, joking around with him. She was afraid at first because she had the vampire king chained to her bed. She was afraid of the consequences. But once Add and Rhyse agreed to help each other, its when the craziness starts. She learns what she is and starts thinking her whole life was a lie. She's comforted by Rhyse and starts falling for him. Even though she has these feelings for him she doesn't forget about the seers and how they are treated. She wants to stop the abuse and organize a group of rogue seers to fight against the supers for a better life.

Rhyse was serious but i thought he was funny even when he didn't know what funny was. I think his character did change a lot. He went from someone powerful, who got everything he wanted. To being held captive by a seer he could easily kill. He found Add intriguing. He wanted to kill her but because he thought she was interesting, he kept her alive. She not only held him captive, she captivated his heart, he didn't think he had one. Rhyse started seeing how the life of a seer is so short, he wanted to spend as much time as he could with Add. He started understanding what's been going on with the seers and that people would do anything to bring him down. In the end I thought he was adorable, he didn't want to lose Add. He told her how he felt. It was cute. :-) He seemed like a cuddly teddy bear with fangs, not this big bad vampire. Yeah he was a serious guy but he had his funny moments. :-) I just liked this guy.

Overall I enjoyed reading Unseen, I really like reading books like this. You get great characters with a great plot, a prophesized war, humor, Romance, some sexy time, everyone likes the sexy times ;-) The characters didn't jump each other right away. There was good build up and character change, some action, mystery, and great secondary characters. This book was very funny and entertaining. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading Paranormal Romance, you get vampires, witches, demons, angels and wolfs. If you like any of those, this is the book for you.

First of all, let me start this review by saying: I don't like vampires.

At least, I don't like all that snobby, aristocratic, excessively beautiful, über erotic demeanor vampires come with nowadays, usually when they are the love interests. For me, those kinds of vampires are the losers within the world of monsters, always pained and suffering, troubled by all the deaths they've caused, haunted by the anguish they've imposed upon humanity, while still being those perfectly seductive, gifted creatures who are better lovers than any human could possibly ever be. Blah blah blah.. boo hoo.
I like my vampires hideous and bloodthirsty - ugly, heartless monsters with no redeeming qualities.

So you can probably imagine how surprised I was to find a vampire romance I liked - really liked - especially considering that the hero was exactly what I usually abhor in vampires. He was a snobby, excessively beautiful, über erotic, skilled in bed aristocrat. But I still loved him from the first time he opened his ultra perfectly sculptured, arrogant mouth.
So why the change of heart? I'll come to that later on.
First, let me give you a little summary of the...

Plot
Addison is a Seer. As a Seer, she doesn't have an easy life - she got drafted as soon as she came of age in order to serve The Heights, the "higher beings" in this world. Seers don't have a choice, it's either living a dictated life or being declared feral, which basically equals death. Seers don't step out of line. Ever.
So when Addison finds the almost dead - well, even deader - corpse of a staked vampire in the midst of the trash outside her apartment and her oblivious human neighbor practically forces him into her care, she has no other choice but to tie him to her bed and kind of go from there. After all, it would draw less attention to her to convince him to just walk away as soon as he feels better than to report the incident to the authorities and, in the worst case, being accused of illegally staking a vampire herself, right?
What Addison hasn't expected, though, is that the man bound to her bed isn't just any vampire. He's Rhyse, THE vampire, the Prime, the king of the Heights of North America, used to being worshiped and served rather than ambushed, nearly killed and held captive by a weak and worthless Seer (or so it seems), of all people.
But despite their differences, Addison and Rhyse soon learn that in order to get out of the mess they're in, they're going to have to work together and trust each other.

So again the question: why did I enjoy this book so much?
I'm not one-hundred percent sure, but I think it has a lot to do with the heroine. I'm not used to heroines asking questions, saying stuff and reacting the way I would in a certain situation, but Addison did exactly that, most of the time. It was surprisingly satisfying to watch a powerful hero like Rhyse bite on granite with his threats and attempts of seduction, as affected as Addison might be by them. I loved how she holds her own against his arrogant attitude, his ignorance towards the injustice in the world he leads and shows him that even after hundreds of years of numbness he can still be a good person.
Of course, even a perfect heroine wouldn't be enough for me to like this book so much if I didn't like the hero. I really enjoyed the character development without Rhyse becoming all wimpy and needy. Although he changes for the better, he never fully loses his attitude which leads to lots of hilarious moments.
Especially in the beginning, when Rhyse is still tied to Addisons bed, the interaction between those two characters had me laughing out loud several times. I'd like to give you a little sample of that:

“I’m gonna go freak out in the living room for a little while,” she said from the doorway. “Wanna watch a movie until you do the coma thing?”
She seemed to miss the absurdity of the question, making him wonder about her sanity. If he had any intention of exchanging blood with her, he could heal her mind of that. But of course, he would not exchange blood with her — he would take blood from her.
“Is that a ‘yes’?” She went to the bureau and set a laptop computer on top of it, aiming the monitor so he could see it. “I only have Netflix, but they have a lot of good stuff. What do you normally watch?”
“Was that a serious question?” he asked after a moment. “You are asking the vampire you strapped to your bed what kind of films he enjoys?”
“I need to figure out how the hell I’m going to get out of this without dying and you — well, both of us are stuck here until I do.” She turned back to the computer and clicked a few times. "How about Angel?” She laughed nervously. “This is so messed up.”
When she turned towards him, he saw tragedy in her eyes, an open soul unlike any he’d seen outside of the angels.
“Are you nephilium?” he asked quietly, without thinking. She would be the first half-angel since the Treaty went into effect, but it was possible.
“It’s just a show. He’s not an actual angel, he’s a vamp. And he’s in love with — Yeah, total fiction. It would probably horrify you. Or make you want to stake yourself.” She raised an eyebrow. “You’re watching it.”

Apart from the main characters, there were also some secondary characters I really liked. Davyn, a sarcastic demon, who the next book in the series will be about; Micah, an angel warrior; Logan, Addison's best friend and fellow Seer. I hope they will all get their own books.
I loved the variety of different creatures: Vampires, angels, demons, witches/ warlocks, mages, werewolves... even fae were mentioned.

The world building was great, albeit confusing at times, as was the story. I'm not a native English speaker, obviously, so maybe there were things I just didn't quite catch due to the language barrier, even though normally that's not a problem for me. There was just a lot going on, maybe a little too much for my liking, but I understand that the first book kind of served as an introduction to the paranormal world Lauren Stewart has created and the story in which Addison will probably play a big part in the future books of this series, even if the main focus won't be on her any more.

All in all, engaging story, great characters, mean cliffhanger. Can't wait for part 2!

I received Unseen in return for an honest review from the author.

Addison job isn’t glamorous but cleaning up the bodies of dead supers can’t be that pretty. As a disposal it keeps her out of the box and safe from the supers. Yet everything changed the morning she came home and found a vampire almost dead outside her building. With no other choice she brings him into her home hoping he would die because she didn’t want to stake him. Only after Addison has the stranger vampire in bed with her silver jewelry holding him chained does she learn that he’s actually the Prime leader of the supernatural world.

Intent on only giving Rhyse enough blood so he can leave she drops her blood into his mouth but his reaction isn’t one she expects when he tells her to run. After Rhyse curbs his blood lust he explains to Addison that she’s a long since dead super that has been hunted to extinction. With Addison’s blood she offers humanity which will prove fatal to all other immortal supers but Rhyse isn't willing to let her go yet. As the two spend more time together trying to figure out who attempted to kill Rhyse they also find themselves falling for each other. Will being the Prime be enough to save Addison from what’s coming?

I love Addison she’s one of those characters you secretly wish you could be. She’s been thrust into the supers world, and everything she knew is suddenly changing as her real identity comes out. I wasn’t sure at first about Rhyse but as the book progressed I fell in love with him too and think he’s perfect for Addison. The book also has a few supporting characters I really found interesting like Tempest, Logan, and Micah we saw little insights into their lives.

I was super excited by the opportunity to read Unseen it’s not my first book by the author but it’s clearly my favorite so far. The author has created her own supernatural world mixing humans with vampires, seers, werewolves, demons, angels and more to form The Heights. I found the whole concept for Unseen captivating right from the start it’s well executed. The book is action packed, with the right amounts of mystery, as well as romance that kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved the characters Addison is an amazing character with lots of potential to grow through the series. I was able to connect with Addison which is why I enjoyed reading her story she’s one of those characters who captures your heart. I wasn’t able to sit down and finish Unseen in one sitting like I would have like to much real life but it was one of those books I thought about when I wasn’t reading. I stayed up last night to finish because I wanted to know how it would end. I can’t wait for the next book because already I miss Addison and Rhyse. While the book does have adult situations they don’t overwhelm the story but enhanced it. That being said I think mature teens as well as adults will fall in love like I did. The Heights series very well could be my new favorite vampire series plus I the cover is stunning. Highly suggest you check it out if you love urban fantasy.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

HOLY HELLS BELLS!! Where do I even begin? Well let’s start with the obvious, I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK. I mean I was thinking about it non-stop when I wasn’t reading it. I was scheming and plotting and trying to make everyone happy but let’s face it, Lauren doesn’t give you happy in book one now does she?? NOPE annnnd this is why I am an addict!!

So to start with….world building and Paranormal/UF. I am a paranormal reading nut so I understand that there will be a lot of world building and I am good with that. If you are not used to it, suck it up and get ready. Lauren throws everything at you really quick the first few chapters and then slides a few ‘game changers” along the way…tricky Lauren. Now while we are learning about the world and all the different races/species we are also meeting Addison. She is a really unhappy, scared and wanting to be UNSEEN human. She hides behind her Cleaning Up crew job and just exists day to day until……an almost dead vamp is in her garbage. Soooo if she calls it in, she will be accused of the crime. SOOO, she takes him in and hopes he dies. …like isn’t that what you would do???? LOL Since she is a Clean Up crew member she is all good with disposing his “dusty” remains after. Well friends…… Rhyse will not die and he is ever sooo grumpy that a pathetic LOWER being is holding him hostage.

Something happens between the two and Rhyse is FA-LIPING OUT. He then begins to change. He is feeling something but she is a danger to him but he likes her and her mouthy ways but she is bad for his people but he can’t stop thinking about her but she is human but …but…but….Well while Rhyse is having those same thoughts guess what Addison is thinking…that vamp is hot but he only wants a toy but I would it be a toy but I am not a toy but I would so be a toy for a night but that isn’t me but he is hot but…but…but. As you can see the two have some communication issues……..

Now while Rhyse and Addison are fighting this chemistry and pull they also are trying to find out who tried to stake Rhyse PLUS keep the Treaty between all the races in tact BUT find out what other species has popped up into the world outta nowhere……I mean people this book is intense and sooo crazy with plots but every single plot was amazing. I mean I am left wondering about sooo many different characters not just Addison and Rhyse…..

Seriously this book made my Paranormal heart sooo dang happy…..I can’t wait for more!!!

First, I would like to thank Lauren Stewart for gifting me this to review.

4.75 "The Heights" Stars

I did not read the synopsis for Unseen so I had no idea what it was about when I first got into reading it. Which for me, worked out fine. I already knew Lauren's writing from her Hyde Trilogy.

So if you would like to know a little about Unseen before you dive in, is set in a fictional city named The Heights and Addison who is a seer that can see paranormal creatures; vampires, shifters, angels, demons, and witches. And whenever there is trouble she has to dispose of their bodies by "dusting" them.

One night when Addison comes back from her job as a disposer, there is a nearly dusted vampire in her garage. She has no choice but to bring the vampire up to her apartment before anyone human sees it.

When she somewhat cares for the vampire, she learns that that vampire is Rhyse Vampire Prime of North America. So, he's a pretty big deal. Now, what Addison and Rhyse have to figure out is who tried to "dust" him, why, and that Addison is his only ally.

I rather enjoyed Unseen. Lauren wrote this novel in third person which I thought was the most effective way of telling this story. The reason why I say this is because there are multiple POVs but Addison and Rhyse has the most chapters in their point of view.

Traditionally, Lauren Stewart made all of these supernatural beings in the way that we are use to seeing them before Twilight and Vampire Diaries (I love Twilight though).

The one thing that I greatly liked because it fit the style of the novel and it pertains to now and back in the beginnings of America where there is slavery of the seers and other lower level supers. It shows how there is a great disproportion in power.

I do have a couple of complaints though, that the world was developed but there could have been more development as to how the world works and why it is like it. Lauren did touch upon it and I am assuming in the later novels that she will. I also think that she should have put the guide to all of the characters and supers in the beginning of the novel rather than at the end.

Overall, I really enjoyed it and if you like supernatural of any kind where the world is not difficult to understand then this one is for you!

3.5 realmente.

The book is competently written. Some other reviewers have stated that the writing is awkward in the beginning but I don't see it. In fact the beginning is probably my favorite part of the whole book.

I have a lot of criticisms, but they all essentially boil down to one thing: the female protagonist considers the male protagonist an annoyance. She considers the love between them to be a burden, and frankly that just doesn't ever do it for me.

Being sassy, authoritative, self-possessed, whatever you want to call it can be a nice way to introduce a character but keeping that up throughout the whole book really gets tiresome. She constantly places him second or third to other things.

My most hated phrase in PNR, "this is all going so fast!" was in this book.(outside of "all hell broke loose" which unfortunately DID make an appearance in this book as well). Unfortunately for the author, we are subject to the heroine's internal dialog, so we know shes crazy for him. Once we know that, phrases like that start to seem insipid, especially after the 5th time they are repeated.

On top of that are the numerous TSTL moments, like ignoring logic without even attempting to refute it. Or like ignoring a warning about something bad happening if you do this thing, doing it anyway for no good reason.

Its all very tiresome I guess. If you're looking for something new, don't bother. If you want the same old PNR happy meal then dig in.

First of all, I am already a HUGE fan of Lauren Stewart's work. All of it. So when I came across Unseen I was absolutely thrilled to read it and I am so glad I did. I loved it! This paranormal romance is so much fun! Rhyse and Addison are hilarious in their banter and attitudes! In typical Lauren Stewart fashion, she absolutely nailed it with the dialogue! Addison cracked me up constantly, and the way she stands up to Rhyse and talks back to him? Brilliant! And Rhyse, in all his vampy hotness, made me laugh quite often as well. His old-fashioned way of thinking when it comes to humans, romance and pretty much anything having to do with women just kept a smile on my face. I really enjoyed getting to know some of the secondary characters as well; demons, angels, witches, vamps, this book has them all! In one place! The Heights is a crazy place to be, and while it took me a little while to fully grasp all that goes on there once I did, I could not put this book down. I wanted to know more, wanted to know what was going to happen next and how it would all play out. And once again Lauren Stewart does not disappoint!

Unseen is the first of the series and I honestly cannot wait to see where it goes from here. I plan to read Unearthed (book 2) ASAP!

Where to begin...

I absolutely loved this book. I loved the character development, the story line, the mystery and last but not least the romance.

I haven't written a review in quite some time either, so I am more than a little rusty, but Unseen deserves one. This is the first book I've read from this author and feel I will soon become a fan and read just about anything she writes, along with (just to name a few) Jeannine Frost, JR ward, Lauren Oliver, Patricia Briggs and many other Greats.

If any of the above named authors are on your must read list then add this book to your list as well.

Addison is a hilarious character, her witty banter that she carries on with herself most of the time, had me laughing out loud, causing unsolicited looks from my significant other...he was obviously questioning my sanity, but I digress.
Rhyse is ALL VAMP... He is why we all read paranormal vampire books. lol. He is right up there with the best of them.

I will definitely recommend this book to my fellow Paranormal fans.

I have mixed emotions about this book. I suspect this is one of those series that gets off to rough start but finds its own in subsequent installments.
First, I loved the character of Addison. I liked that the author commits to a strong female protagonist that knows her own mind and acts accordingly.
The supporting cast was assertive enough that I found myself wondering about their futures, at times, more than the leading male character. I felt like they were easier to relate to.
I can’t say that I was a huge fan of Rhyse but I am going to caveat that with a warning that I am typically not a fan of dominant male types who attempt to control their female love interest. However, Rhyse started to grow on me towards the end of the book, so there’s that.
I will say-unabashedly-that Lauren Stewart could probably teach a class on how to write sexy time scenes. Holy cow, those scenes are pretty intense.

All in all, I enjoyed this book. I look forward to seeing where the author takes the characters.
If you are a fan of Twilight, this might be a good fit for you.

Not since the Fever series have I been so caught up in a book. I devoured this, head down, eyes glued, from start to finish. The lead protagonist is smart, and funny, with just the right amount of snark. The male lead, Rhyse (vampire-hotness) probably goes through one of the most monumental character changes I've read in a while. The relationship between Rhyse and Addison is at times hilarious, extremely sexy, and develops into such a wonderful 'partnership' that by the end, I honestly couldn't tear myself away for fear of what might happen next. The supporting characters are a delight to read. And it all comes together to create the perfect PNR/UF written by a very talented author. I can't wait for the next one.

Highly recommended to lovers of paranormal romance who like their stories to have something of a grittier edge.

Wow. A funny, deep, thought provoking book. Highly recommended.

Rhyse and Addison are incredible! I LOVE Rhyse! He is the hottest, sexiest, sweetest, vampire! Addison is feisty, stubborn, and impulsive. Together they are undeniable.

The ending is phenomenal. It's, strangely, as thought provoking as the ending in Blocked. I'm so torn by what happens with Rhyse and Addison.

Really looking forward to reading every book in this series!

This is a wonderful story but I hate being stuck at the end with a beginning. Hopefully the next book will help with that. This book is the beginning of a war between the races and it all started with Addison. Addison is a seer, which is a human that can see paranormal creatures. She is part of the clean up crew that disposes of paranormal bodies. After work one night she finds a vampire with a hole in his chest and an ugly personality. Instead if killing him, she saves his life and changes him forever.
