Jack is the first book in the Viking Warriors MC series by Debbie Hyde. Lily Harman was in a nightmare relationship and did not know how to get out of it. Her friend Nina at the hospital where she worked did, and organised with an organisation called Ariel's Angle to take her somewhere safe. Lily Harmon did not expect to find herself in the middle of a motorcycle club and meeting Jack McLeod, the son of the president of the Viking Warriors MC. However, things started to go wrong at the club. Was there going to be a bikie war, or was it Lily's violent husband? Jack McLeod stepped up to protect Lily. Readers will continue to follow Jack McLeod and Lily Harman to discover what happens.

Reading this book, I started to think about how I see motorcycle clubs; not all of them are bad. Jack also helped me to realise how domestic violence does not only affect the immediate family but everyone around them.

I loved Debbie Hyde's writing style, which ensured I engaged with her characters and the plot from start to finish, and I was sad to see it end. Jack is well-written and researched by Debbie Hyde and a fantastic start to the Viking Warriors MC series. I felt part of the book's plot because of the way Debbie Hyde described its settings.

Debbie Hyde has placed a warning at the beginning of this book due to its plot. However, I grew up with domestic violence, and I enjoy reading this book and wish someone like the Viking Warriors MC would have helped my mother and brothers. I recommend this book; please do not read this book if the subject affects you.

What an amazing start to the series!
I can’t say just how much this story means to me, I can’t give my full personal review here, I will gladly tell it but maybe on other platforms.
What I can say is that this book, this story is every bit worth the read! Before I say anything else, I have to say it’s important to express that DV is not something you should mess around with, it’s not something that everyone makes it out of. There are a lot of books about DV, and some popular ones do show how serious it can be but I’ve yet to see one that shows just how dark it can get, how my family knows all too well how dark it can become and how life changing it can be for the worst.
Please read this story with caution and read the trigger warnings! It’s not an easy read but it is still a really good read! I found myself relating a lot to Jack and his grief…
This story shows you can still find love in the mist of your darkness moments.
I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series holds!

This is a most relatable read that packs a serious punch. The target audience might be survivors of domestic violence, and those sworn to protect them, but this book is a necessary read across the board.
Lily's story is well constructed and feels true. The contrast with the survivors still trapped is a stark reminder in these fraught times.
The characters are brilliantly created and nuanced. The plot is driven.

this book was done so perfectly. the way the author poured her emotions and sweat into this. i couldn't have asked for a better book. the trauma in this book is real and its heavy but the outcome of it was beautiful and amazing. i honestly didnt even notice that it was a clean romance. it wasn't lacking in any way. highly recommend this beautiful story but check the warnings cuz the trauma is there.

The background story for our FMC Lily, will resonate with some readers, so check the triggers.

Her journey takes her across states until she ends up in a MC compound, it’s her decision in where she wants to go but she chooses to stay. There is a sense of belonging between her and Jack, the son of the prez who will eventually take over. There is a little back n forth between the two and everyone are very understandable and sympathetic of her predicament. Unfortunately, she can’t out run her past and it catches up to her in a violent way.

First, in the series and I liked the back story for her, it was very well written. I enjoyed her little bits of spark then back to being meek again due to past influences.

A very personal mission

Ms. Hyde has tackled a very difficult subject. Her characters are genuine and relatable. She has taken a very personal tragedy and found a way to bring a subject that is often swept into the shadows out into the light. Domestic abuse is not a form of entertainment, and it is not presented as such. This story provides hope in a desperate situation and also has contact information for those in need.

Ms. Hyde’s dedication in the front of the book brought me to tears. The story told in Jack has parts of her real-life experience of losing her daughter and unborn granddaughter. She has masterfully shared enough for us to know it was truly horrible without making the whole story about Kacy (her daughter) and Angel (her granddaughter).

If you are in a dangerous situation like domestic abuse, there is help available. Please reach out.

I look forward to the next installment in this story, just like I do all of her series.

What a great read, I didn't want to put it down. I love that it's not just a romance book but there is suspense, action, and of course love comes. It's a great clean read! A must read! Will warn it may trigger some who have experienced abuse but it can also be healing as there is so much hope packed in here too. Ladies if you're in an abusive relationship- make a plan and stay safe. - get out. Men this goes for you as well for there are men who are abused too.

I have never read a book about a motorcycle club and found their world fascinating. I learned a new culture and I really enjoyed doing it. Terms like “patched member” “cut” “old lady” and “church” were all new to me. They have “road names” which are super cool nicknames! The closest thing I can think of for the vibe of the book is the Fast and Furious series. They take the law into their own hands and protect their own with all they have. I also really appreciate the authors vulnerability in writing about domestic abuse. I am grateful for this perspective and the opportunity it gave me to now have more empathy. I cry for these women and children and pray for them. The romance was clean, instant, intense, but beautiful too. The courtship was a lot different than I am used to bc of the biker culture but I like learning new things! There were a lot of characters with their own stories that I’m sure will get more page time in later books.

30yo Jack: “Coty Michaels has been my best friend since we were toddlers. Our families are part of the same motorcycle club. An MC I’m proud to have been born into. No clue why I developed a wild hair and had to roam around the country for the past two years. Naturally, when I left Willow Creek, Tennessee, Coty went with me.” They are part of the Viking Warriors MC! (Motorcycle club) Jacks grandfather is president. They hadn’t been home for two years and have decided to go back! “Coty extends his left arm with his hand in a fist. “Till Valhalla.” His excitement overtakes his unbelief. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard those words. Yep. Home’s calling. I extend my arm and bump fists with him. “Till Valhalla.” I’m ready to get out of here. “Let’s ride.” And they got home to huge welcome! “Roscoe Barnett has been a Viking since before I was born. He’s a big man, standing over six feet tall—all muscle. Of course, he has a full beard. Most of the older guys take the Viking image seriously.” Jack has an older sister named Harley who is serious and younger sister (named Maci with a bouncy personality). Maci is best friends with Coty’s little sister Ember. Another older sister Ariel died of domestic abuse and left two children Logan and EvaLyn now teenagers 18 and 17yo. “No one here would ever bother Everly. Logan would rip them apart if they touched her. Plus, she’s wearing a Property of Viking Warriors cut. All our young girls wear them at parties. It lets newcomers and visitors know this is one of our daughters. Touching one of these girls would get a man killed.” They love and are so good to the women in their life. And his dad and gpa too!! What a close and loving family!! Also jay is his cousin and like a brother to him. Lily is a nurse in LA. She suffers domestic abuse by her boyfriend whose dad is a cop. But she is saved by the Viking warriors organization. They call the women they save “angels”. they secretly take the woman from her situation and take her far away to start over. They give love and hope. Jack: “This is the first angel I’ll have seen in two years. Each one is different. Every single one of them is precious and deserves to be treated as such.” There meet cute is THE BEST. He is immediately taken with her and she him. She says it accidentally out loud: “turn to meet my escort. I’m at eye level with the man’s throat and have to tilt my head back to see his face. Wow. His smile widens. Several others chuckle.” He takes her hand ““Hi. I’m Lily Harman.” Yeah, it’s corny, but we weren’t properly introduced. “Thank you for helping me.” “Hi, Lily. I’m Jack McLeod.” His eyes seem to find mine through the sunglasses. I know it’s not possible, though. “I will do whatever it takes to protect you forever.” “Forever?” I whisper. He nods once, sealing his promise.” She thinks his voice is so comforting and soothing. Jay is the best mechanic!! The town they live by half the people there are snooty and judge the bikers. But they try not to let it bother them. I love how gentle Jack is with her: “He leans forward and gently presses his lips to my forehead. It’s the briefest touch, yet I feel it in my soul. No one has ever given me forehead kisses.” This bad boy tattooed black wearing man is the best gentleman and treats her like gold and kindness. “He’s out of the truck and at my door before my foot touches the running board. He offers me his hand. “Always wait for me.” “I can get out of cars and open doors for myself. No one has ever helped me before.” He doesn’t move, and there’s no way I can step around him. His eyes seem to pin me in place. “Then they were doing it wrong.” He is so protective. But she finally begs to stop being treated like she is glass. She wants to be normal! So his soft gloves are coming off! FAVORITE PART: He gets a black helmet with her name and wings on it. She feels free on the back of his bike. Wrapped around him! The helmet has speakers so they can speak to each other. ““Hold on tight, angel. It’s time to fly.” It’s freedom to her! “For the first few miles, fear was winning my inner battle(which makes sense bc she is an ER nurse). The thrill of riding exploded like fireworks the moment I stopped fighting. And like fireworks, this ride is beautiful. The scenery comes alive without the body of a car around me. The trees, fields, houses, people raking leaves in their yards, and the farm animals seem to jump out at me. Until today, they were boring figures that were part of the backdrop in my mind.” And this bond: “He places his right hand on my knee and rubs up and down my calf. More emotions and fireworks explode. I wouldn’t have believed riding could be intimate until now. It’s a whole new level of intimacy. Is this why biker couples have a bond the rest of the world doesn’t understand?” They take a drive to a park: “Cupcakes by the river with a biker. I’ve never heard of such a thing. This is definitely a first. He pulls a to-go bag of food from Angie’s from the other saddlebag. Oh my gosh. Not just cupcakes. We’re having a picnic. The biggest surprise is the red checkered blanket he pulls out. Wow. All of a sudden, I feel special. That’s the biggest new thing yet.” Her ex abuser shows up to kidnap her and punches her in the nose. Jack comes and saves her! And he is so protective and she only feels safe in his arms and won’t let him go. “Once Joel Clark has been stopped and silenced in her mind, I’ll show her how a man is supposed to love and care for his woman.” Oh my heck. They are in bed in jacks house and gunfire is shot through his windows and hit Lily!! She is shot in the back! His angel!! heads will roll. Waiting in the waiting room while Lily is in surgery the WHOLE biker club comes and the families lol: “They shoved us into a corner to get us out of the way of other visitors. A sea of black leather with a double set of gold wings on the back apparently strikes fear into the hearts of regular people. Normal people? The faint of heart? Who knows what they’re called? Others? That might be a better word. I don’t know. Thinking about it hurts my brain. Shallow, they’re definitely shallow. We’re good people. We love deeply and fight hard for our own. If ‘others’ can’t look beyond the sea of black to realize it, that’s on them, not us.” And Jack is losing his mind: “I’m not storming down the hall to the nurses' station to yell at them for the millionth time. I’m not supposed to move at all. Hospital staff threatening to call security didn’t stop me from yelling and screaming at them. Security threatening to throw me out and call the cops didn’t stop me. The Sheriff’s threats to arrest me didn’t stop me. My club President ordering me into this corner tested my limits. Jay’s words stopped me. “Lily needs you here.” Lily. My angel. Needs me.” While Lily is in a comma Jack hunts down the rival gang that did this. Shot in his home his bedroom his bed! He claimed Lily as his Ol lady and made it official! While Lily was in a coma Jack kills her crazy ex then comes back and she awakens to his voice. Instead of a marriage they do this in the biker world: “Three weeks ago, my son officially claimed Lily Harman as his ole’ lady. It was a unanimous vote among our brothers. As of this moment, Lily holds the status of Jack McLeod’s ole’ lady. Every member of the Viking Warriors MC and their families will honor her and show her the respect she’s rightly due.” Dad hands me Lily’s property of cut. I turn the cut so she can see the club logo. “I love you, Lily. Nothing will ever change that. Never forget this.” I tap the property of patch and my road name, Ghost.”“Welcome to the family, Lily!” At Dad’s shout, the room bursts into an uproar.”

I’ve read several MC books before, so I’m pretty familiar with the usual tone and themes. What really stood out to me with this one was how realistic it felt. The Viking Warriors MC are legendary and intense, but the story never felt exaggerated just for the sake of drama. The loyalty, the and the club’s mission to protect the innocent all felt grounded and believable.

There’s plenty of suspense and tension, especially with enemies lurking and danger never feeling too far away. The stakes felt real, and that made the story even more gripping. You could feel the weight of every decision and every threat.

I did love seeing the growth between Jack and Lily throughout the book. It developed naturally over time and added emotional depth without overpowering the overall storyline.

I also have to mention the author’s note following the story. It was emotional and meaningful, and it truly adds something important to the story you read. It brings awareness to an issue that deserves attention and gives the book even more purpose.

And can we talk about Finley? I think I may have a new favorite librarian. If you’ve already read this, you know exactly who I mean. If you haven’t, just wait. You’re going to love her!

Overall, I absolutely loved this first book in the series and can’t wait to continue with the Viking Warriors MC. Definitely a five star read for me.

The Viking Warriors MC are Angels on wheels. The suspense of what is going to happen. The strength that these Warriors show. The selfless way the Warriors help those in need make you greatful they are on the right side of this fight.

That was hard. The author brought to the page a truth that hurts. Domestic violence is out there. You might not be able to save everyone, but you will be able to save some. All you have to do is understand it exists, and let that person know you are there for them.

First off, I barely got past the dedication. I was ugly crying before I ever made it to chapter one. It is very imperative that you read the trigger warnings for this book. The author even reminds you when you get to chapter one. Now on to the book. This book will pull at your heart and may even break it but you will be put back together with maybe a few pieces missing but thats ok because its ok to be perfectly imperfect. The moment Jack met Lily he was immediately protective of her. The things Jack and his family went through was heartbreaking. Jack's friend Coty is his ride or die and I absolutely loved it and can't wait to read his story. This book was very well written and flowed so perfectly that you was never thinking "omg how much more do I have left." We've all thought that so don't deny it. *insert wink* If you like MC romance books with a strong crew backing them up then give this book a read but remember CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS FIRST. Your mental health is very important. I know this story was hard to write and I could not imagination going through what you did. Thank you for writing this book and shedding light on a very difficult subject. I'm glad you got your daughters story out even though it was difficult. I have read plenty of books by Debbie Hyde, her Hayden Fall series, The Dawson boys , and For the Love of A Shaw series which I have enjoyed more than this book. I always gave her books 4 or 5 stars. This book didn’t click with me. Felt more like a rough draft. I felt like we were 50 plus more pages in before the 2 main characters even met. Then it was kind of instant love which didn’t feel true to the story. Lily are main character had been living with her abusive boyfriend over a year and escapes then rebounds to quickly. Didn’t feel like a romance. Just not my cup of tea. I’m sure other readers will love it. I’ve been patiently waiting for the next Dawsons book which was supposed to come out over 2 years ago.

I read this because there was no sex scenes in it and for that I give it 5 stars. Once you read one you've read them all and too many authors write romances that are more porn than anything resembling an actual romantic relationship.
That being said, I didn't feel like Lily and Jack developed a relationship. It was instalove and totally unbelievable. How can an abused woman who has her head up her ass about what happened to her and refuses to face that, have an open honest relationship with another man so quickly (like within 2 months) after being rescued? It's like he is a rebound relationship. She latched onto him because he's attractive and makes her feel safe.
I never did like Lily. I found her to be weak, whiny, irrational and a stupid idiot. Her ex found her because of her stupidity in contacting someone she shouldn't have.
I didn't find Jack to be much of an Alpha.
There were some minor editing and continuity issues.
There was too much lecturing about abuse in any form and trauma.
There were times I got caught up in the action of the story but times where there was too much angst and drama and times that it was too nauseatingly, gaggingly, syrupy, Hallmark movie, unrealistically and irritatingly sweet. 🙄🙄🙄

I doubt I will continue on with the series since the blurb for the next book has the FMC sounding very irrational in blaming the MMC for something he did not do.

I honestly don’t know where to start. This isn’t a genre that I normally read, but I am so glad that I read it. It is such am important topic, and was done in a respectful way. No explicit sexual scenes or bad words. This author has won my respect. And the fact that this story is her and her daughter’s story. And as heartbreaking as it is, she chose to share part of it with us. Domestic abuse is real and it is often deadly. Lily knows what it is like. She sees it in the ER where she is a nurse, but she also lives it. Now she has her chance to get out . A well respected motorcycle club has a secret organization called Ariel’s Angels, who rescues abused women and helps them start over. But the abuser has authority and money, and he isn’t used to losing. He is just as determined to get to Lily as Jack and his family is determined to save her. I definitely recommend this book. Ariel’s story is actually Kacy’s story, and the author’s story. A story that no one should have to go through

I enjoyed the Motorcycle Club and action parts of this book, but the romance part of it felt like a secondary part of the story. The ARC about the MC helping rescue women was great- I love that idea of people that society always deems as bad (and yeah, OK, they do some stuff outside the law) but this particular group is all about family and using their own tragedy to help others, sometimes doing the things that police and other entities can't do.

I was expecting some spice between the FMC and MMC, and some more connection and banter between them. I would have just liked to see their relationship flushed out more, more growth than her being a woman they rescued to, boom, she's his ol' lady.

The Viking Warriors is all about rescuing women from poor situations and finding them a future. Lily was supposed to continue on to a safe home but instead Jack keeps her and puts her in more danger.
We get to see a lot of side characters that are probably being set up for future books as I saw the title for book 2. That is my only complaint about this book, it focuses so much on trying to build the cast that Lily and Jack's romance seems rushed and a little forced. Lily is a woman who just escaped DV I find it hard to believe she would recover so quickly.

this is my first book from Debbie. iam used to a lot of smut, but tbh this book didn't need it. The storyline was so captivating. I love how the storyline was based on dv as I feel dv isn't spoken enough, especially people being saved from it. I loved how the vikings set up a group in memory of their family member who also went through dv, so they were honouring their family member by helping others. I really enjoyed this. im hoping there will be a storyline for finley and maybe Jay if there is a thing who knows. and I'd love to know why kayla is so funny with coty, so I can't wait to read cotys book. There is no smut or anything, but such an amazing storyline

I loved this book. The writing pulled you in from the start and kept me hooked until the last page.

I appreciated that it took a few chapters before the main characters met because those chapters gave us necessary background information about the h and H.

Character development was well done. Yes the storyline is heavy yet done so well that I didn’t feel overwhelmed by. I do recommend you review the Trigger Warnings before you dive in due to topics discussed throughout the book.

This story touched my heart. I am so glad Ms. Hyde found the strength to share even part of her daughter's story. I know this had to be a really excruciating thing, for her to do. I hope it helps her heal a little more. Giving these women struggling in an abusive relationship hope that they can survive too. I really liked she made it part of an MC. i really am looking forward to reading more in this series. I really liked Jack and Lily's story. So much so that i binged it and Coty's Story. These stories are a must read!!!
