When life gets you down... Kayla Riggs is three weeks from graduation and has yet to have one college experience worthy of a memory, let alone a story to tell people later. Her BFFs make a deal with the player next door—show Kayla how to have a little fun before she settles into a life of mediocrity.
Hire a player to pick you up... Jake Swanson only has a few weeks left as a cadet for the Bainbridge Island Fire Department before he can take his practical exams and be hired on permanently. The last thing he needs is a group of crazy women insisting he grant his cute-yet-boring neighbor three insane wishes—one for each week left of school. The only kicker is that she can’t know about the wishes or the deal is off.
When they offer him a deal he can’t refuse, he agrees to show Kayla how to have a little fun, and in turn has a lot more fun with her than he expected, or wanted. Now he must choose between keeping his word, or losing his heart.
"If you are looking for nonstop, heart-racing action and sizzling romance, look no further. Allie K. Adams will take you there—and more!" —Lucy Monroe, USA Today bestselling author
I love Allie K. Adams books.....sexy hot and humorous!! Hiring the Player is book 2 in the Campus Players series. This time around we have Kayla Riggs, business administration major in college and Jake Swanson, a hot sexy cadet firefighter.
Six months after the two have a one night stand, Kayla, feeling down, spies Jake in a bar. Sparks fly when the two gaze into each others eyes from across the room. Kayla has always been a girl that plays by her own set of rules.....Jake is about to change all that, 'cause he's a rule breaker!! After a freak accident gets the apartment building they both live in condemned, the two are talked into living together, temporarily. Kayla's three BFF's "Hire" the very sexy Jake to "take care" of Kayla for the next three weeks. He is to fulfill three wishes bestowed upon him by her friends without Kayla's knowledge. What happens next is a wild ride to say the least.
Kayla & Jake are a perfect match...she needs to learn to take a chance and let someone love her and he needs to let someone take care of him for a change.
This was such a sweet love story. We get revisited by Grooming the Players couple Emma & Ryan. Emma's BFF Britt and Kayla's friends, Shannon, Ciara and Mel are all great additional characters to this story.
I'm already looking forward to the next book in this awesome new series and recommend this great read to those who love a good laugh, hot sexy love scenes and a happy ending!!
Enjoyable easy to read romance with some angst. It's well written with likable characters each with their own issues but more with Kayla, her rules were never ending, her parents have done a right number on her. Jake is a player but has a heart and respect, he is thoughtful and worries about others. There is some suspenseful and tense moments their friends are fun but supportive. Loved it.
Hiring the Player is the second story in the Campus Players series by Allie K. Adams. This is another short read and is only about 170 pages long. This New Adult read starts when Kayla is dumped by her boyfriend just a few weeks before her college graduation. Suddenly alone with all her plans shattered, Kayla turns to her sexy neighbor Jake when she comes across him in a bar one night. They had previously hooked up, and it took her months to get over him the first time. She decides to have fun with him for the night. But when her apartment gets set on fire, she and Jake are left with the only option of becoming roommates in another apartment building. Kayla's friends make an agreement with Jake that they will cover part of his portion of the rent if he will help give Kayla some fun. But soon their passion and feelings are more than just him helping to loosen her up a bit. Can they turn the fun and sex into a real relationship?
I liked Jake. He was sexy and sweet, and I loved that he was a firefighter. He was so particular when it came to everything being done correctly and about fire hazards, it was pretty cute. I liked that he was always open and honest about his feelings with Kayla. He was fun and brought out a whole different side to her. I liked them together a lot. Kayla was a bit uptight and she was scared to let anyone in. Even when Jake was being open with her and telling her how he felt, she would pick a fight or try to run. But I thought that they had a lot of chemistry together and were really hot. I liked seeing them figure things out between them and start a relationship together.
Overall, this was a short and fun read. Even though the characters had known each other for awhile, they weren't close and I felt like their relationship was rushed. It was a bit too insta-love to me considering Jake's transformation from player to serious boyfriend happened so quickly. I just felt like I had missed a huge portion of his transformation, and it didn't make sense that he would change so quickly even with his developing feelings for Kayla. I thought that there should have been more time from the start of things to the point where he is telling her he loves her. It was surprising to me to see him be the one admitting his feelings and wanting a commitment though. Usually it is the girl and the guy fights it, so that was interesting to see. I would recommend this story if you are looking for something quick and sexy that is fun and enjoyable. If you are looking for a deep connection though, I am not sure this one is for you. I did like the characters though, and will look for more from Allie K. Adams in the future.
She was a perfectionist, and intelligent girl who got everything all planned for – and he’s a player. If you have enjoyed the first book, I’m sure you will love this even more.
Kayla built walls around her heart, and its taller than that building in Dubai, and sturdier than any fortress I have known. She couldn’t let anyone inside her life, afraid that it might disrupt the orderliness of it. She was three weeks from graduation, and she didn’t need any more additional stress. Her friends were worried for her – so they made a deal with the player next door to show her some fun before she finally settles for a boring life.
I don’t know whether to love or hate her friends, but I settled for the first one – because they only meant well, and they wanted her to finally live her life. They were a naughty bunch, but they were great friends who were just a text or phone call away when they are needed.
Jake had a few more weeks until he can finally be hired permanently for the Bainbridge Island Fire Department. The last thing he need in his life right now is a group of friends whose asking for trouble by asking him to grant three insane wishes for their friend. The only thing he got from this deal – is Kayla. The girl whom he couldn’t forget, and whose wall he can’t penetrate.
It started with a fire, it was over something insanely stupid, but I was glad it happened because it paved way for these two to be together. One by one, he starts to grant their wish – showed her how to live life, and have a little fun. What he didn’t expect is to fell right into his trap. He didn’t mean to fall in love with her. If only he can get into her walls and make her unafraid to take the risk. It was frustrating to watch her deny what she feels for him – but he will prove her, by hook or by crook that she was IT for him. He was a player, but now, he was willing to stop playing – all because of her. Now first, he needed to get his secret out in the open.
What I love most about this series is seeing Emma and Ryan together – stronger and more in love with each other. But, something happened to them that had me gripping on my Kindle. It was an OMG moment that I was sincerely hoping they’d get pass through it.
I enjoyed reading this series, every book has something new to offer. The series just kept on getting better and better. It will give you some new ways that will make you fall in love with the characters, even if they were formerly-douches.

Kayla sees herself as a Plain Jane, just average in every way except her ability to succeed in college. Jake is a player and likes not have commitments his only problem is that he can’t forget his one night stand with his neighbor Kayla. Kayla can’t forget the feeling of betrayal after her one night with Jake when he acted like she was not even there.
When Kayla and Jake are forced to share an apartment for a month things really start to heat up. The apartment house they were living in caught on fire and everyone had to move out and find somewhere else to live. Jake’s Captain at the firehouse, offered a two bedroom unit on campus that he had been saving for his son. Jake decides this might just be what he needs to improve his reputation at the firehouse. Now all Jake needs to do is convince Kayla to be his roommate.
The fun starts when her three best friends agree to pay Jake’s part of the rent if he will grant them three wishes for Kayla. They are concerned that Kayla takes everything too seriously and needs to lighten up and Jake is just the guy to pull that off. He has to agree not to tell Kayla about their arrangement and not have any other girls for the month that he lives with her. No problem right?
Jake cannot believe that everyone is trying to interfere in their business. First her three best friends and their three wishes and now his friend Britt. They were only going to be together for one month. Just until graduation and then they would both leave and go their own way. Right then why does it bother Jake to think of Kayla with some other guy?
Jake and Kayla find themselves moving more toward each other and a lasting relationship. Will Kayla leave her past and the feelings of being inadequate and trust Jake? Can Jake prove that he wants more than just a one night stand with her? ~CJ
This follow-up to Grooming the Player makes a wonderful addition to the Campus Players series with a storyline that's familiar yet fresh due to the immensely likable characters. Kayla's a serious-minded young woman who plans everything and with graduation just around the corner her life seems set in stone. She finds comfort in order and wants nothing to disrupt that, especially love. Her caring friends have others plans for her though in the form of sexy Jake and his promises of decadent delights. Kayla's not an outgoing character at first due to her devotion to order but as she and Jake get closer you see a more fun and caring side emerge. Jake is a player but deep down we find a caring soul who falls for Kayla quickly and pulls out all the stops to win her over. You'd think he'd be superficial but he has surprising depth and turns out to be the quintessential boyfriend that I easily fell for.
This was another delightful story from Ms. Adams with a nice flow, engaging characters, and steamy interludes. The secondary characters, primarily Kayla's friends, were equally strong and I wouldn't mind seeing more of this crazy group of gals. We also get a welcome appearance from the previous installment's main characters who have a moment of great turmoil that caught me off guard but made me root for them even harder. From start to finish this was another satisfying installment to Ms. Adams enthralling college-set series and I look forward to many more books to come!
This was a really cute read. It was light hearted and fun. Overall I enjoyed it. I liked the chemistry between the main characters and even liked the supporting characters. But I had one big issue with it, on chapter nine it was like a switch was flipped. Up until that point I felt like it was moving at a pretty normal pace and then all of a sudden the guy is professing his love and the girl is wigging out. They start to fight about the fact that he loves her and her insecurities. I was so confused I went back to make sure I didn't accidentally skip a chapter. It was if the author was cutting it close to a deadline and just skipped some parts to get it done on time. It really affected the flow of the story for me and I just wish she would've taken a little more time with the progression of their relationship in the last few chapters. I'd also like to say that I'm not someone who is against quick to love romances, I'm all on board for love at first sight, but I do like for it to be consistent. If it's a slow build up then it needs to be a slow build up. If it's quick then it needs to be quick the whole way through otherwise it just doesn't make sense. Certain people love in certain ways and characters are no different. If they're slow to burn then they aren't going to be slow then all of a sudden go up in flames. Anyway, overall pretty good.
Short and hot - in more ways than one - a fun storyline and awesome characters.
I adored Jake. He's a firefighter. He's protective - wait until you read why he lives where he lives - he can cook, he's a hero, he's a player. Or he was. He has fallen hard for Kayla, a stubborn, control freak who fights him every step of the way. Kayla was more difficult to like, she's rigid and regimented but she has a good heart and though it takes awhile - a long while - we get to see who she really is.
I liked Jake and Kayla together. Not only can they not keep their hands off of each other they are good for each other, the rule maker and the rule breaker.
I loved Kayla's friends, crazy, daring, and supportive, more like sisters than friends. I so want to read their stories. Emma and Ryan also show up, not that you need to read their story, Grooming the Player first, but you'll fall even more in love with Ryan in 'Hiring'. As much as I enjoyed seeing them again Adams scared me with what happened; I swear that if things had gone differently I would have stomped on my kindle.

HIRING THE PLAYER was definitely a fun New Adult read, which features Jake (Player) and Kayla (The List Maker)...You can already see where this is going.
Kayla likes her structure and lists, keep things in her life easy, and Jake has a new woman every night...keeps things in his life "light and easy". Neither are looking for a deep connection, but a sexual connection...they can certainly make that happen.
I liked the character of Jake, knowing that there had to be more to him than just the "player" role he played so well. Kayla was pretty cool, in a sense that she was insecure, but she stood up for herself and gained confidence throughout the book.
A few little holes in the plot, here and there, got me a bit off track, but other than that, I thought the second book in the Campus Players Series was Sweet, Fun with a Dash of Sexy (that is for Jake)!
