Captain Jacky is a notorious jackdaw who lives by the lakes at Pool Bridge Farm, where she spends her time pestering its wild swimmers and stealing their jewellery.
But one day, she suddenly vanishes into thin air, leaving her friends on the farm to fear the worst.
Terrified, locked up and surrounded by hook-beaks, Captain Jacky endures two weeks in captivity before reappearing back at the lakes. On her return, she astounds her friends with a story about the most incredible adventure - one that will go on to change their lives forever.
Inspired by true events, this tale of friendships and freedom is interwoven with humour, passion and a crow’s eye view of how the world works.

This book is likely one of my top books for 2025. I laughed out loud so many times, but also cried. The book is written from a bird’s point of view of humanity. The themes explored are incredibly poignant given our current political climate and increasing environmental crisis. It’s well-worth a read. I bought a physical copy to have on my bookshelf - something I rarely do.

I'm not crying, you're crying. I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish. It's well written, funny and manages to talk about many issues humanity faces in a simple to understand and thought provoking way. As a regular swimmer myself at Pool Bridge Farm where this book is set, and having met little Jacky it was really lovely to read about her and her home, although I don't think this is a necessity to enjoy this book! A great read, highly recommend and I hope to read more from you in the future Mike!

Great Book! Read in one sitting

Never thought I would be interested in the adventures of a bird, but felt very intrigued and loved the characters. Captain Jacky was Funny, lighthearted and somehow emotional.

Felt very pulled to this as it’s based at Pool Bridge Farm not far from where I live- Gifted by a family member of the author ❤️
