Fake Dating an Orc Cowboy

Rate this book
What happens when a fake wedding date with an orc cowboy starts to feel real?

Rosey: After my boyfriend ditches me for my sister and they invite me to their destination wedding, I’m in a bind. I could go solo, but my pride would take a hit. Then an orc in cowboy “armor” swoops in to save me from a creep at a bar. Ostor’s both charming and bumbling, and despite him licking my palm in an almost ritualistic way, I like him, so I spontaneously invite him to be my fake plus one for the wedding. Sharing a room with Ostor takes a surprising turn when our fake relationship slides in a new direction, and I start falling in love. When the weekend’s over, will my romance with this orc cowboy be a fleeting fling or can I lasso real love?

Ostor: I’m only in town to solidify contracts for the new Wild West tourist town my orc brothers and I have built when I meet Rosey. One touch, and I know she’s my fated mate, so I mark her in the ancient orc way. When she invites me to attend her sister’s wedding as her fake date, I jump at the chance to show her what we’ve found together should be anything but pretend. She’s cute and funny, and she makes my blood roar. Before the weekend’s over, I'm determined to claim her as my orc bride. Can I convince her to make this real?

Fake Dating an Orc Cowboy is a steamy monster romance with fated mates, touch-her-and-die vibes, yearning, banter, spice, only one bed, and he falls first and hard tropes. It’s part of both the Sweet Monster Treats shared world and Ava’s Brides of the Lonesome Creek Orcs Series. Expect size difference, a cinnamon roll hero, a fake relationship that overheats fast, cute shenanigans when an orc cowboy samples tequila and champagne, plus a new, cozy monster contemporary world.

Fake Dating an Orc Cowboy was a quick, cute read.

Rosey gets backup against a disgusting creeper dude who won't take no for an answer, in a bar of course, by Oster. In a spur of the moment decision she asks him to be her plus one to her sister's Cancun wedding, which she is the maid of honor for, in order to not look pathetic. Why? Well her sister is marrying Rosey's ex, who dumped her after she introduced him to her family. Sure Rosey gave her sister, whom she loves very much, but being around her ex still hurts a little and is awkward as hell.

Oster gladly agrees, but that's because he knows something she doesn't. They're fated mates. So he'll follow her anywhere, if she lets him. Oster is still pretty new to the surface so some human sayings, customs, and traditions are both new and strange to him. (the moon of the honey, anyone? lol ) But for his fated mate he'll do anything...but tell her what the heck is going on between the two of them, which I didn't like. But other then that, Oster really does try hard to fit in and be everything Rosey needs when she needs it. The end 'conflict' was, in my opinion, stupid and unnecessary.

In fact, the behaviour by Jacob for the entire book, in front of Macy no less, made me wonder why the hell he was marrying her in the first place. Why it didn't create any conflict between the bride and groom? It just felt controlling and manipulative on Jacob's part and made me question his character. I actually worried for Macy a little. If your soon-to-be-husband is jealous that his ex, your sister, has finally moved on and found a great man, that's a cause for concern. And it's really concerning when he starts challenging him in stupid contests. Even more concerning when he pulls him aside before he is supposed to be getting married to give the orc 'advise'. Oster knew the whole time Jacob was being sus, and yet he took his advice to heart without even mentioning it to Rosey? Good grief.

Other than that I liked the overall story. Rosey's parents seem ridiculously chill really. Macy's friends are quite welcoming to Oster. Though, again, Jacob was super sus and I don't know why Macy didn't question him on it more.

As for spice...it was decent. It's not quite a descriptive as say, Veronika Kane's spice scenes in her Orc series, though it adheres to a lot of the same lore...but adds in a magical tattoo and coorails.

It was good enough I think I might spend a small amount of money on getting a few other e-books from her various series to try. Not enough for me to go out and buy a hard copy though. These novellas would have to be full fledged books for me to commit that kind of cash.

Fated mates to a forever love

I loved this fake dating, monster-human romance. It had a wonderful mix of sweet, spicy, real life issues, and family issues. Ostor and Rosey are portrayed as real, relatable people who have flaws, but are really just trying to do their best as messy beings. Ostor is an orc and a cinnamon roll of cuteness especially because he tries so hard despite his lack of knowledge about human words, clothes and customs. His brothers recently built a Wild West town as a tourist attraction. He was tasked with traveling to a larger city and negotiating contracts for the venture, and then he intended to go back underground to the orc kingdom. Rosey is a human who has to travel for a destination wedding for her sister and her ex-boyfriend. She is dreading it and when she meets Ostor in a bar, she asks him to go on the trip with her as her fake boyfriend. As soon as Ostor touches Rosey, he knows she’s his true mate. Now he just needs to convince her that the fake relationship and his feelings are real while navigating a family wedding. This story was well written and included engaging dialogue, three dimensional characters, and a swoony storyline. I am excited to read more in this world. 4.5 stars.

“You glow like the reflection of a star on the clearest water. You are why I dare to dream.”
~~~
Rosey is so kind, understanding, caring and compassionate. And she’s such a sweet, generous, funny, gentle and loving person. But, with things that happened in her past, she’s hesitant to open her heart to the possibility of love. Luckily, Fate has special plans for her. Rosey is a wonderful woman and I loved her very much!
And Ostor is one absolutely spectacular male! This gorgeous orc cowboy is the sweetest cinnamon roll - he’s kind, charming, caring, considerate and easygoing. Even more, he’s a bit awkward when it comes to his interactions with humans and their world and customs, but that just makes him even more adorable and irresistible. Ostor is amazing and I adored everything about him!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Rosey and Ostor! Ostor saves Rosey from a creep at a bar and she makes him an offer he can’t refuse. Because the moment he touches her, he knows they’re meant to be. I loved those two together! Their chemistry was fantastic right from the start and their banters were such a delight to read. Even more, Rosey and Ostor were so sweet and fun and I truly enjoyed every moment they spent in each other’s company. What started as a fake wedding date, very quickly turned into something very real. And when they finally gave into the undeniable attraction, the passionate moments they shared were so hot. Ostor and Rosey were so perfect for each other and more than deserved to find happiness and love together.
Overall, the story is a sweet, fun, cozy and naughty read and I loved every page of it!
a fine palate cleanser after the last atrocity i read. though, it has some major problems and these are as follows:
1. scrambled conflict and catharsis, nowhere near as impactful or important as it should have been. to be frank, i literally didn’t understand what the problem was. like one day the mmc just up and decides he failed and completely stops all the love bombing.
2. the love bombing.
3. mate bond used as an excuse to not write dialog or further character arcs. “they’re fated mates, of course they understand each other! through their bond”-type of logic. no. no, no, no. the mmc’s WHOLE deal is that he half-understands his mate’s language cause it’s his first time on earth and he’s a fucking orc. he misspells all the time, show too you expect me to believe they can understand each other without explaining the tangled unexpected feelings? sthu
i mean it’s not so bad but that conflict at the end was just like ???? baseless, and resolved in one sentence. so, senseless, actually 😔
i don’t know why this review is so long
maybe because the book started out not so bad? i generally liked the writing itself, the jokes in the narrative made me giggle. until it became really cringe
if you’re here for the spice rating it’s meh stars out five. i was raised on ao3 and tumblr fic. this is fluff to me
Oster, an Orc and Rosey, a human are the players in this story.
Rosey brings her boyfriend home to meet her family and he immediately falls for her sister. Rosey is embarrassed and hurt and keeps herself away from Jacob as much as she can. The only thing is that she is a vital part of her sister’s wedding where she is marrying Jacob, whom she loves. A destination wedding is arranged. Rosey must attend but needs a ‘date’ to attend with her so she can save face. Meanwhile Oster rescues Rosey, while everyone else ignores what is going on, from a very determined and annoying man who seems unable to take no, or go away for an answer. Very soon Oster realises he had found his mate, in Rosey but he is shy, innocent and new to human society. He takes her up on her plea to go with her to her sister’s wedding. He wants and hopes this time with her will be enough to win her heart. There follows amusing moments and insights into self esteem, and misunderstandings. A sexy, lovely, lovely story. Very enjoyable.
So fun and cute
This is such a fun series. Roses has to go to her sisters wedding. Her sister is marrying Rodney’s ex-boyfriend. Although they only dated briefly, it still stings that Jacob met her sister and immediately broke up with her. The wedding is in Cancun and Roses can’t bear to go alone. She meets Ostor who is in town finalizing contracts. The really fun thing is this author finds ways to showcase the differences in the Orcs and humans. Roses orders a plate of fry’s and Ostor is horrified thinking she is about to eat Flys. Same when she explains what French fry’s are and tells him to try ketchup, he thinks she is dipping the fry’s in blood.
There are so many more things like this that are cute and truly make Roses fall in love with Ostor. They are fated mates already and meant for HEA. This is a cute series with many brothers so I’m looking forward to many more stories.
Fake Dating an Orc Cowboy by Ava Ross is a rollicking fun book. Roses is not looking forward to her sister’s upcoming Cancun wedding to Rodney’s ex until talk, green and handsome orc Ostor saves her from a guy who won’t take no for an answer at a bar. Ostor is a sweetie and she asks if he’ll be her plus one. He’s more than happy to as the two both sport mating marks the first time they touch. The story while in Mexico is fun and unique. Of course, he misunderstands a bit so there’s lots of humor and the two totally fall in love! Can’t wait for the next as Ostor has lots of brothers who need wives as they prepare a Western style ranch for visitors!
A Real Standout
Oster is an Orc who meets a dejected human female in a bar as she finds off unwelcome flirtation. He steps in to tell the guy to buzz off and immediately recognizes Roses as his mate. She invites him to be her plus 1 at her sister’s upcoming wedding to a guy she used to date. She has no idea that this Orc, new to the human world will do anything for her to make her his. And although he stands out in a crowd of humanism he quickly shows Rosie and everyone else what a real male in love is like. I loved the story and could kick her ex, what a douchebag. I received an Arc and purchased a copy as well.
I FELL IN LOVE WITH OSTOR IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is everything that emodies the perfect guy - he just happens to be an orc.
Rosey was perfect. I so identified with her and her inner dialogue and her fear of being alone and questioning her worth when compared to her sister. What I love aboiut her the most is that she was willing to suffere for her own sister's happiness - so she could have the wedding she wished for with her forever man. Now Jacob (Rosey's ex, and Macy's fiancee/husband) was in the dog house immediately for me and never got out.
I am looking for ward to more from the Brides of Lonesome Creek.
I gotta read Greel's story.....he is growly!!!!!
“Fake dating” was for like a day. At every given moment, they literally told the other that they were in love or like felt a connection but then in their internal thoughts they would be like “god….I hope they accept how I feel about them”
ALSO- if my sister was getting married to the man I used to date even if it was just a casual relationship, I don’t care how well my sister and I get along, I’m not going to the wedding. Like those two were dating, he saw her sister, and boom. Now they’re getting married. Like- girl, that’s not your soulmate. That’s just a guy named Jacob. Why ruin your relationship with your sister for him?
But this was one of the funnier orc romances I’ve read so
Ostor has to be the sweetest MMC ever! After Ostor saves Rosey from a jerk in a bar she asks him, in desperation, to be her fake date at her sister's destination wedding. As soon as they touch hands he knows she is his fated mate. This sweet story has it all, lots of humor, a sweet bumbling orc, a heroine with a bruised heart and plenty of steam. I so love the idea of an orc cowboy! So far this series in tons of fun and I'm looking forward to the rest of the books. The characters are so warm and the stories are fresh. Ava Ross simply writes what I love!
I really loved this story!
So sweet. Starting out as a desperate attempt to save face after her new boyfriend suddenly latches on to her younger sister and now she's supposed to be the happy supportive maid of honor. Later comes along at the perfect time to save her from a creep at the bar she visits, as her depression sets in. The arrangement for her to have him pose as her new boyfriend and date for the wedding trip to Mexico. Little does she know she's now marked as his fated mate. Lots of ups and downs and some misunderstandings happen, but there is a great. HEA !
Rosey went out for a drink and to think about her sister's upcoming wedding when a creep hits on her. Oster encourages his to leave. And Rosey comes up with the perfect solution- Ostor can be her fake date for the wedding.
Ostor knows at one touch she is his mate but decides he should probably wait a bit to tell her that. He jumps at the chance to spend time with her.
This is surley a Sweet Monster Treat of a story. From their initial meet, matching mate marks, her ex throwing challenges, their steam, humor and sweet romance, we are given a truly amazing tale.
What a cute couple these two started out faking to be. Don't get me wrong, the whole cowboy thing, yay, but then add in a monster twist; trust me when I say you'll love it. Ostor and Rosey will make your day; their story was sweet, cute, romantic, and spicy. I know there were a few times I was fanning myself, and a few times, my heart was aching. But I couldn't get enough of this book and devoured it. This could be the start of another favorite; and how I'm eagerly waiting for another book, then that answers that for me. A must-read in my books!
Fake Dating an Orc Cowboy by Ava Ross is part of the multi author Sweet Monster Treats series, as well as Ava’s newest series, Brides of Lonesome Creek. This is a sweet, heartfelt story with plenty of steam and a HEA. It can be read as a standalone, but I suspect this new series is one we’ll all want to devour. Both characters are so wonderful – Rosey is so kind and understanding and Ostor is pretty much the perfect male – protective, but sweet and considerate. Together they are magic!
This was a great fake to real romance and I loved seeing Ostor and Rosey come together. He may have saved her from a creep at the bar, but this opens the door for her to make him an offer he can't refuse ;P These two were wonderful characters, and I especially loved Ostor - talk about a sweet cinnamon roll ;P They had fun banter, hot chemistry and were fun to follow to their HEA. Good fun!
Rustling an Orc Cowboy
Such a wonderful story. She was his fated mate, and he wins her over by agreeing to be her fake date. We all know what will happen when they share a room at a destination wedding. But the new brother-in-law tries to get in the way of their happiness. I like the way they finally acknowledge their feelings IN A CROSSWALK! How romantic, aaaww. Then they get their HEA.
Pretty silly! I guess I was expecting something along the lines of an Ursa Dax story, but there’s barely anything “cowboy” about this orc beyond his hat and the last chapter of the book. Instead it’s your typical modern rom-com, with less substance, shallow characterizations, almost zero backstory, and a head-scratching climax where you never really find out what pushed them apart. And don’t get me started on the heroine’s magically vanishing sleep shorts…
Fun story
I thought the humor with the orc was fun. The one part that confused me was why he acted like he did at the wedding and after. I had to go back because I thought I missed something. It finally dawned on me that groom must have said something. That was not clear to me. I would have liked to have known what exactly he said because honestly it wasn't clear. Maybe it's just me. Doubtful and yeah it's not my story but it is my review.
Rosey needs a plus one to her sisters wedding. After Ostor saves Rosey from a slime bag in a bar she thinks he's perfect to be her fake date. But to Ostor there is no fake about it as mating marks appear on his and Rose's hands. This is a sweet romance with an adorable Orc who doesn't know his way around the human world.
What a sweet story! I loved it from the first chapter. Ava Ross does an excellent job of making you believe a monster love is possible. Ostor is a cinnamon roll alpha who you want for your very own. Rosey is swept up off her feet by this sweet monster. Their relationship blossoms into the deep love of a mate. I could not get enough! Download and enjoy🩷🩷
A fun lighthearted fantasy read
This is a sweet fantasy read with a tiny bit of steam and not so much spice. A hero kind enough to protect strange women from her creepers. And an emotionally buried heroine. No cheating no coercion just a sweet orc and a woman in need of a date to her sisters Tropical vacation wedding.
A really fun story! Rosey is not happy that she has her sister’s wedding to go to and has no date. The topper is that Macey her sister is marrying her ex! She meets Ostor a cowboy orc who is new in town setting up a ranch resort with his brothers. He rescues Rosey from a jerk at a bar and she asks him to go to the wedding as her fake date. The two hit it off and fake becomes real.
Another amazing story by Ava. The sweet immediate connection between Rosey and Ostor was off the charts. Everything about this story is something we can all relate to in some part or another.
I would love to know what Jacob said to Ostor though. That part left us hanging.
All in all a beautiful love story with a very HEA! 🔥💜
This is the gateway book to monster romance. I guess, I never was interested in this sort of book but my husband bought it for me. He had teased me when Amazon would share Ava Ross but books because of The live action D&D show Critical Roles Tusk Love long long time joke. I really really enjoyed the book, especially orc anatomy and the steam. Bravo Ava.
it was ok for a quick orc romance
This was a decent novella if you are looking for a quick orc romance. I felt like it was a bit clunky and there was potential that wasn’t fully seen through in some places. Might have worked better as a novel that could’ve been fleshed out more. However, overall, it wasn’t a good read.
This was an adorably cute, quick and easy read, with some delicious spice! I was absolutely swooning over Ostor. Literally the biggest marshmallow and simp. The plot was fun and easy. And the world building easy to follow! The spice was delicious, and all in all this was just a super fun cute orc fake dating romance!
Plenty of steam
Okay the steam was on high and enjoyable. Even though I enjoyed the book immensely, I was disappointed a couple of scenes were not more fleshed out specifically the father talk and what did her ex say?
