The Misfit Mage and His Devilish Desires

Rate this book
Wally and Bez have survived a city bent on slaughtering them and a vengeful demon stalking them inside a dimension-traveling villa. Now, these two must enter Hell itself in order to save the world. Well, all the worlds, actually.

Life in their private oasis has allowed Wally time to train his newly acquired devil’s essence. Bez has also learned to accept the calmer elements of the day-to-day without fear of looming threats. But news of Wally’s Diabolic ascension has traveled, and now, he’s invited to step into the Hell realm of one of the mightiest devils to reign over the universe. If he declines the invitation, it means signing a death sentence for everyone in their world as devils don’t take kindly to rejection. But one misstep in Hell will cost Wally and Bez their lives.

Bez refuses to lose Wally. He’d much rather see the world burn than risk Wally’s life, but since his insufferable boyfriend insists on doing the so-called right thing, Bez serves as his guide in Hell. There’s not much Bez can do against a devil, but he can protect Wally from saying or doing something that’ll offend. In order to survive, they’ll have to flip their roles: Wally will have to walk into Hell with the confidence of a devil and take charge in a way he’s never done before, while Bez will have to hold back his impulsivity and strategize their way through this deadly party.

Oh. My. God. OH. MY. GOD. OH! MY! GOD! This was such a perfect wrap up for Bez & Wally. This final novel really redeemed the series for me. I was not the biggest fan of book two, but book three really wowed me.

I am so happy to have been able to receive an ARC for each book of this trilogy and be able to proudly say I got them into the library. Bez & Wally are the light I needed in these dark times. I am so glad these boys got their deserved and earned ending.

Go read this wrap up!

Thank you M.N. Bennet for the eARC of this and each of the series throughout the years!

If you have not read anything from this series, you really need to. Wally and Bez are so much fun to read about. These two characters have been through so much coming into this book, but little do they know that they are in for a battle royale!

I love the peeks we get of everyday life in the Diabolic Oasis: Tony working on inventory in the shop, Wally and Bez “training” in the back room. Wally has found his everything in Bez and vice versa. But now that Wally carries diabolic essence inside of him, will he be safe from other devils? Spoiler alert: not so much.

We get to see Wally and Bez really fight for one another in this one and it is just everything. Watching Walter gain confidence and come into his own gave me the biggest kick.

I have enjoyed following these two characters through three books now. I know the author has said they’re done at least for now, but I hope to see them pop up in the future. I just love their banter, and this book treats the reader to tons of it, plus a whole lot of spicy moments . If this is truly the end of Bez and Wally’s story, it’s a great way to tie things up.

To say that I am absolutely devastated this is the final book in Wally and Bez's adventure to their HEA would be a massive understatement. The entire trilogy has had me gripped in its clutches since the very first book, and I'm really hoping that MN Bennet decides that we need more of these characters in our lives.

The ending definitely left Wally and Bez's HEA with some openings to potentially continue on with them in the future, and I'm really going to need that to happen! (Seriously, I need more!!! I've got sooo many ideas and questions LOL.) This trilogy is worth the read (and all the re-reads) and I recommend you pick it up and dive into this world! It's one of those that is on my "if only I could read this again for the first time" list.

Wally, Bez, Mora, and Kell are settling into the Diabolic Oasis. Bez is happy to finally have a home for himself and Wally. Mora is channeling her inner monarch king and loving it. Kell is still, well a complete and utter explosive disaster of amazingness. Weather and Tony are still absolutely adorable and add so much to these stories.

But as we all know, there's always quiet before a storm. When Wally is summoned to Hell by Lilith as the new devil on the block, things are definitely about to get crazy AF. I mean, Wally has now been bestowed the Hell realm title of "Walter Alden, Devil and Mage of Misfit Hybridization".

This book was really special in the way that we see Wally really starting to grow into himself. He's finally learning that he's lovable and has worth, quirks and all. I was so proud of him in this book. He's deserved to be able to love himself this whole time. He's also learning to use that devil essences he's been given, and it's seriously impressive once he gets the hang of it.

Similarly, we are seeing Bez finally learn to be just "Bez the Diabolic demon" instead of "Bez the Devil"/"Bez the False Devil". He's having to learn to accept himself as he is, similar to how Wally is. The support and love they have for each other as they both go through their own versions of self healing from years (or eons in Bez's case) of trauma is seriously couple goals!

It was so refreshing to see these topics handled in such a way where they were taken very seriously and addressed with care, but they also were handled in such a way where Bez interjected some humor into the things that weighed on Wally. Definitely not in such a way that Wally was being made fun of or not taken seriously, but in the way where Bez made sure that Wally knew Bez loved him just as much, if not more, because Bez loves everything about Wally no matter what. Wally, of course, offered the same support and love to Bez.

*Possible TW (Emotional Abuse)*

This is not to say that Wally and Bez don't struggle every single day to battle their demons (for lack of a better word LOL). Those of us who really understand what the emotional abuse of a parent/authority figure and just how heavy the weight of mental illness can understand and empathize with both Wally and Bez's struggles.

****Possible Spoilers for the Side Characters****

Honestly, I feel like my favorite side characters have changed in every singe book.

♦ Book one introduced Mora, and her unique personality quickly made her my favorite side character. She was mysterious and had this confidence about her that you just knew she was going to be a baddie with a heart. She seemed aloof, but you could tell that Bez being trapped in his orb prison for years with her being able to nothing to save him was a weight she carried, and that she was finally able to let it all go now that he was free.

♦The second book introduced us to Weather (aka Stormy, Sunny, and Cloudy). It also introduced us to Tony in a real way, (because I wouldn't really consider his small cameo in the first book a real side character introduction). I ADORED Tony in this book and just knew he was going to end up being something spectacularly special, which bumped him up to my #1 favorite. Of course, Mora arrived at the Fae villa and brought her mysterious wife, Kell (who let me tell you, is just a hot mess express in my opinion). Kell intrigued me, but she also irritated the shiitake out of me. Mora quickly got demoted from being my favorite side character, since this whole book had her radiating selfish and shady vibes. I really wanted her to continue being presented as the true bestie Bez needed in his life, and really didn't enjoy seeing her using him just like so many others have his whole life.

♦Book three brought us more of Mora, Kell, Tony, and Weather, who all seem to have settled into the Diabolic Oasis and found their niche. I thnk my irritation with Mora from book two rolled over, so she still wasn't cutting it as a favorite. However, Kell really grew on me. It was great seeing that her and Wally had developed into best friends, even with their strikingly different personalities (but we all know that those types of connections make for the most everlasting friendships). But the real stars in my mind were Tony and Weather. Tony and Wally's familiar connection has continued to grow, and now we can see (and kind of understand) what is going on in Tony's mind. And boy is he a snarky little dude. Similarly, Weather was absolutely adorable. I loved that Stormy, Sunny, and Cloudy's different personalities were continuously displayed, and that they didn't just get lost in him being Weather as a whole. I also loved that Wally and Bez both wanted to be Weather's favorite, but each puppy had a different connection with each of them.

***Small Spoilers - My Wish List for Future Stories Ideas***

♦ I NEED to see Wally and Bez's wedding! OMG - I just know it's going to be amazing and crazy and beautiful. PLEASE - at least a novella?? Pretty please!!!!
♦ It would have been nice to see Wally touch base with his family, at least Alistair. He and Alistair seemed to have a special relationship as siblings in the first book. I find it hard to believe that Alistair would turn against Wally, even now that he's becoming a devil, and I think Wally deserves a little bit of family love in his life (only if it's not toxic). Plus, it would be interesting to get a little bit of a view into how things are going with the Collective and how Alistair is treated since his mother's betrayal.
♦ I'd like to know if Magus Remington is sentient in his crystal, similar to how Bez was in his orb. Maybe a little novella from Abe's POV, giving us more of the backstory between him and Bez, and his new life in the crystal could be in our future?
♦ Wally was really turning into his own version of a true Devil there at the end. How do his powers develop? Are the other Devil's gaining interest in him? Can he create his own demons? Do Satan, Corson, and Osiris decide they want to become part of Wally's "Hell" (and what are those three up to out there in the "real world")??? Does is Devil essence make Wally the "de-facto ruler" of the Diabolic Oasis (even though he obviously wouldn't want to be and would just let Mora have it)? I have sooooooo many questions! LOL

All I can say is wow. This is the last book in the series and the author went full blast on his readers. Walter has become a new kind of human/mage/devil hybrid due to Bez saving his life in the last book. Bez had possessed part of Beelzebub's demonic essence, and he put it in Walter to save him. The essence allowed Walter’s body to repair itself. However, it changed his body and made him part devil.
Walter and Bez now live in a pocket dimension run by their fellow devil Mora and her partner Kell, a witch. Everything is fairly peaceful. The Collective, the group of mages that don’t like challenges to their authority, have pretty much left them alone. Groups of witches have tried to infiltrate the community and steal artifacts from Walter and Kell’s shop. Bez was usually the one to take care of them and few, if any, lived to try to steal again.
A demon from Hell showed up on their doorstep with an invitation from the devil Lilith. She wanted to meet the “esteemed Walter Alden, Devil and Mage of Misfit Hybridization.” She actually had other plans for Walter, but I won’t spoil those.
The author gives up plot twists and surprises galore. There is so much going on and it all works somehow. With a less talented author, this would be a mess. He keeps the reader on their toes. I really enjoyed it. Walter has grown as a magic person. Bez has found some humanity in his love for Walter. He would still rather squish someone’s head rather than talk it out, but that’s Bez.
We get lots and lots of spicy times. Oh my goodness! Walter can take a lot more than in the previous books due to the demonic essence. Let’s just say Bez puts him through his paces and it makes for some very fine reading. We do get a scene where Walter dominates Bez. Just another oh my goodness.

I could read this series forever, but this is the last book. I hope the author revisits them again. I highly recommend this. Great story. Excellent character development. Lots of spice. What else do you need in a MM romance?

I wanna start this by saying that I loved the story. I loved how things ended, and the trilogy was fucking awesome. I’m actually a little heartsick because I don’t want to leave these guys behind.

But you do not expect me to ignore the mess do you? Because I can’t. There’s just no way. I’m sorry, I didn’t make the choices.

If I had to rate this book solely on readability, it’d be 2.5/5 extremely pissy stars. Because in no universe do I want to feel this way. I don’t want to be that guy, even if I’m always that guy no matter what. I want to give it all of the stars. All of the praise.

Yet here we are, with an absolutely smashing story, fantastic characters, an interesting world, and the culmination of everything into a perfect trilogy ending… and sometimes I had to stop, sigh the world’s deepest sigh, and reread whole pages just to make shit make sense.

Pedals/Petals. Shutter/Shudder. Idle/Idol. Buddy, these things are not the same things. They are not interchangeable. And these are just a few examples. I didn’t even mention the chopped sentences, incoherent mix-ups… I need y’all to be so for real right now.

I guess life ain’t fair, and neither is this situation. It was like pulling teeth, but it was 100% worth the pain. I’m not saying I didn’t enjoy it, I’m saying it needs some TLC to better have its moment.

3/5. I rounded up. Respectfully, if you paid for editing/proofing, get your money back.

This was exactly what I needed to get out of book slump!

I requested the book the moment I got the notification about ARC but couldn't bring myself to start reading it. Then when I finally sat down, I devoured the novel!

I almost forgot how much I liked these characters, now I'm sad that this is the final part.

In this installment we follow Bez and Wally into the depths of Hell since they got invited to a Devil's Banquet by no one else than Lilith. It was interesting seeing Bez a bit scared. On the other hand, Wally had to do his best to seem cruel and devil-like. I must say I love seeing Wally grow and his and Bez's relationship flourish. Considering the fact that I don't want to spoil anything, I can't say much, but the fights were great, the feelings were spilling everywhere and I went through an emotional rollercoaster.

I received an ARC for free, and I'm leaving this review voluntarily.

I need someone to talk to about this book so read it and let's have fun!

Third and finale in series (Diabolic Love), must be read in order. Paranormal. Established couple. Found family. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.

Bez and Wally are living their new lives, running a rare artifact shop and training Wally in his new devil abilities. However, an invitation to hell drops them into trouble once again and they have to fight together and with their friends to make it out alive.

I really enjoyed this conclusion to the series trilogy, as there is plenty of action, banter, and steamy times with Bez and Wally. They are finally in a place where they can be equals, fight side by side, and love each other unconditionally with no hesitation forever. This relationship matured as Bez and Wally have grown and changed, but this story solidified their unwavering commitment and deepening love all while fighting the big baddies and sacrificing for each other. This series was a fun filled roller coaster adventure. 4.5 rounded up

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.5 stars

This is the third and final installment in M.N. Bennet’s Diabolic Romance series and it must be read in order. While the author does give bits of information as to what happened previously, without having read the first two books, readers would be lost. So start with the first one and enjoy the ride with Wally and Bez.

This book has all the trademark banter, silliness, and high stakes that have encompassed the series from the beginning. The stakes are higher this time around, with the literal world on the line, but Wally is as sweet and rambly as ever. Though he doesn’t know how to use his newfound abilities, he’s determined to do the right thing. And Bez is just as determined not to lose Wally in the process.

This is the third and last book in the Diabolic Romance series. And it was a very satisfying way to end the series. When are Bez and Wally NOT in some sort of trouble or danger? No exception here, as they get an invitation to the demon realm, which they can't ignore.

I love how Bez grew during the series. From despising and mocking Wally, to absolutely adoring him. Wally is at his best here. Funny, warm. A little bit demonic. I was so afraid that he'd be a doormat for Bez the entire series. But he's come a long way from book one as well.

I am sorry to see the pair go, this was a sweet, fun read.

A fabulous finale to the adventures of Wally and Bez! I loved spending my time with these two on their adventures to Hell and back. The banter, the world, magic, and spice were all just right for me!
I didn't want it to end, but am very satisfied with how the author tied it all together. I especially enjoyed Wally and Bez learning to trust each other in new roles within their relationship; and particularly Wally trusting in himself and his abilities. I will most definitely re listen to these at some point just for the blend of comfort and spice!
Simon Dornet is just phenomenal as all of the characters. They all felt very unique and naturally themselves without feeling forced. 10/10

I love this book so much! I was lucky to get an ARC for this book and was so excited. For myself the characters dynamics and personalities are my favorite parts to this series and the new characters introduced and the new dynamics between returning characters got my giggling and screaming all in the same breath. This was such a great instrumental for Wally and Bez’s story, and the spice was absolutely hitting all the right points that it needed too! So obsessed and can’t recommend it more for anyone who likes a good balance of spice and a beautiful story with lovable characters.

Bez and Wally get themselves into a pickle in this last book in the series. Some old chatting make a return and make things very interesting along the way.

Will Bez and Wally finally get thier happily ever after? Will Wally ever be able to come to terms with his devil essence? You'll have to read the story to find out.

I love love love the Misfit Mage books, and this one was no different. The writing is so funny and clever, often making me literally laugh out loud! The world and the lore is well crafted and interesting to read about! The romance is both sweet *and* spicy! And it’s queer! I just loved everything about this book and while I’m sad that Bez & Wally’s story is now concluded, it was wrapped up very nicely and was a good ending to the series 🥹💕

Ugh I love these characters so much! It was so fun to explore their dynamic a bit more and get to experience more of hell 😈. I think the first book is still my favorite, but this was definitely a close second. I’m sad this series has come to a close because I really enjoyed the plot and all the shenanigans the characters got up to. Definitely hope there are some more stories from this universe in the future!

Such a great series and was a brilliant ending to Bez and Wallys fantastic journey set in such an intriguing world. However one of my pet hates is poor editing and there were a few errors that were annoying! Luckily as I had been waiting for this book and it was an arc I managed to overlook them and hope ot has a re-edit!

Wally and Bez! what can I say other than that this was an enjoyable end to their tale. I was very pleased to see the intimacy between them really step it up a few notches too. Bez could be quite challenging personality wise but seeing him when he is real with Wally then become everything!

This was a nice ending to this series. Some unexpected twists and turns -- . I'm still not 100% sure about the differences between a demon and a devil and a diabolic, and I'm not sure the author is either. But it's still a lot of fun.

“We need to get the hell outta Hell.”

Wally and Bez are living their best lives in the Diabolic Oasis. As Wally learns how to better control his new devil essence, Bez learns to temper his defenses and enjoy the life of calm and solitude that him and Wally have built for themselves. But when the devil Lillith “invites” them to a banquet in Wally’s honour, Wally and Bez are forced to attend. With enemies closing in from every direction, the oasis they’ve forged with Mora and Kell begins to crumble at the seams.

This is the third and last (😭) book in the Diabolic Romance series, AND IT WAS PERFECT! I love Wally and bez SO MUCH. I’m so sad that their story is over, but on the bright side, I can always re-read the series! I enjoyed this book a lot. As usual, Wally and Bez are hilarious. Bennet’s books are always laugh-out-loud funny. Since this was the last book, it made me really nostalgic for book one. Wally and Bez have gone through a lot together and their relationship has really grown over the course of the series. They went from hating to loving each other in the best way possible. And though Bez acts brash and harsh, deep down he is a puddle of goo, especially for his Wally 🩷 I liked a lot of the side characters as well, especially the demons that Wally and Bez meet in Lillith’s Hell. And Mora and Kell were awesome, obviously. UGH, everything is awesome! 🩷🩷🩷

In all, I loved this book and the series as a whole. It feels bittersweet to know that Wally and Bez’s story is over (for now?), but I’m so happy and grateful that this series exists. Thank you so much MN Bennet for the ARC 🩷
