She's a human that has a traumatic past and is obsessed with cryptids and folklore.
He's a centuries old cryptid that's been living alone for a hundred years and is feeling the pangs of loneliness.
So what happens when they meet and learn that they're fated mates?

Darcy: After barely making it out of an abusive relationship alive, I move in with my two best friends. The three of us have 'hunted' cryptids for as long as I can remember. On a trip to Maryland, my life is changed once again when I cross paths with the goatman. Even more shocking? He's convinced that I'm his fated mate.

Jimazu: I've lived in a cave by myself for the last century. My kind are meant to be in herds, not singled out once their entire herd has disappeared with no explanation. Then I see a human and Pan speaks to me for the first time in longer than I care to remember. The wild god tells me that she is my mate.

Can a relationship across species work? What happens when the past comes back to haunt them?

I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this book and ended up reading about 100 pages a day over three days. Darcy and Jimazu are a very sweet pair and the way Jimazu talks, his reverence and devotion? Swoon worthy. I personally would have liked a little bit more build up or resistance to the mate bond (I like a slowish burn), however if you like fated mates/instalove, this is beyond perfect. I also really appreciated the friendship between Darcy, Lexie, and Frankie; it was so nice to see a genuine and also funny representation of female friendship. The smut was def smutting and it was fun to see their intimacy grow through the course of the book. If you like monster smut, fated mates and instalove, and cinnamon roll MMCs (one of my personal favorite things), this is 100% for you.

Have you ever played never have I ever? Well, this book would be the reason that I put one of my fingers down. Never have I ever read a book about a goat man 🤣

This was so good. It was funny. It had a lot of heart. The writing is really great. Articulate without being wordy descriptive without being overbearing. And the story was poignant. Sometimes monster romances lack a solid foundation. They usually jump straight to the spice. This had a right balance of buildup.

But there is definitely spice! Lots of it.

Also make sure you check your triggers.

I really had a lot of fun reading this one and thank you to Torrance for the arc. My review is completely voluntary.

Warning for briefly mentioned rape from the book.

As I read an ARC copy of this book, I can only hope some of the discrepancies and issues I mention will have been re-written in the final published copy.

Unfortunately, this book didn't feel ready for publication to me and could have benefitted from a re-write or a few rounds of edits.

To begin with, there were several inconsistencies. There were smaller things like when the MMC used the word "cryptid" and then later didn't know what that word meant, or like when the FMC's friends refer to her not having her phone until they bring it to her in a week, only for the FMC to somehow have her phone a couple chapters later, or like how the FMC says she and her ex met on a cryptid hunting site and then later says he disapproved of her hunting cryptids. And then there were bigger things like the FMC being aroused and not traumatized by having her hair pulled regardless of how her ex pulled on her hair so viciously when he was raping her a couple of WEEKS prior.

The writing was extremely monotonous and hard to get through after a certain point, as all the minutiae of every single movement, action, and second of every day was detailed, from every bathroom break for each MC, to getting dressed, one article of clothing at a time, to opening a shampoo bottle, pouring the substance into a hand, lifting it to hair, and scrubbing it in, proceeded by conditioner in a similar fashion. Literally, every paragraph was this. Nothing was left remotely implied, and after 200 pages of it, I started lightly skimming just to get through the monotony of the day by day living, eating, washing, and a great deal of spice.

I always slowed the light skimming for the suggestions of plot, but the biggest, most interesting plot line potential, the disappearance of the MMC's people, or "herd," was left unpursued and ignored, no answers given, leaving a massive plothole. Also, everything the MCs could have wanted was just GIVEN to them. They didn't have to use a single brain cell or fight for a single thing. And the plot it DID give had less than a page of screentime in the final chapter before it resolved. And while I don't want to spoil what little plot that was, I'll say that it was unfulfilling in every regard, and there was zero on-page action.

Most of this book is just the main characters TRYING to find something to do to fend off boredom, mostly eating, washing, or, usually, devolving into spice. For me, after a certain point, it became - again - *very monotonous*. Massive chunks of this book could have been stripped or edited down, to the point the actual STORY and romance between the main characters could have been told in a novella. Very easily, actually. Three hundred+ pages was unnecessary to tell this romance, and I think it would have been more like a 3* star for me if a good editor had managed to cut and condense all the meaningless scenes and extra writing/pages (and clear up all the inconsistencies).

I'm disappointed Hoof It didn't fit meet my expectations. From synopsis alone, I feel like this story implied a lot more plot, darkness, and intrigue. There's more I could say about what Hoof It actually is, but I'll leave it there.
If you're a big, BIG fan of fluffy, lovey-dovey spice, and want to read about 250 pages of just that, mixed with some food breaks and bathtime and a bare minimum of anything else, then this may be a better fit for you.

As a monster romance fan, and a *dark* monster romance fan, I can say that this synopsis immediately caught my eye. Unfortunately, past the first few chapters, it became quickly apparent that the dark aspects of this book were greatly exaggerated.

There is a violent intimate encounter right at the beginning, but once Darcy and Jimazu meet, the entire book becomes one long string of fluff and spice. I'm not even sure why we had to see Darcy's attack on page, given that the rest of the book concentrates solely on how wonderful Darcy and Jimazu are for one another, and any emotional or mental impact was kind of just... left to the wayside. The beginning of the book and the rest of it were two different stories entirely, and the tone changed so quickly that it felt like we were rushing to get her "over it".

Plot threads that the author seems to be putting down (especially regarding the fate of Jimazu's herd), are quickly abandoned and not resolved, plot points and information contradicts itself in several places, and while I did finish the book, I really found I had to push myself to do it.

If you're really just wanting to read a very domestic book about a half-creature and a human woman, with a LOT of spice (a LOT. A **LOT**. I cannot understate that, and I'm sure that'll be right up someone's alley!) you might enjoy this one, but if plot is important to you, you may want to look elsewhere.

3.5 rounded 4 because the writing is sincerely good.

I knew what to expect when I picked up this one - Monster Romance. I honestly liked the plot and I was sad for Darcy when I read the first few chapters, just hoping her encounter with the goatmancould be anything she wanted.

My problem is not with the plot, the smut or else, it's the length of the book. Some chapters felt too long for me - they had a cozy/homey vibe and it's done well - but it still felt unnecessary at times. The end felt a bit rushed. When reading the book it built to the twist at the end but it falls like a soufflé.

I still can recommend this book if you like the genre. It's a nice read and has cozy vibes as well as a lot of spice.

Remember to read the trigger warnings before you start reading.

Thank you to the author for sending me an ARC to their book. This review is my own entirely.

Thank you to the author for the ARC!

At the start, we meet Darcy, who is unfortunately in an abusive relationship with a long-term boyfriend. There is a very graphic scene during this time, and I'm immediately rooting for Darcy to find love in someone who cherishes her. She has two wonderful friends who help her out of this situation, and the three of them take a trip to find the goatman.

This is where I struggled. The book takes a drastic turn from the dark beginning, and once Jimazu and Darcy meet, there is a ton of fluff and A LOT of spice. I wish there were more development with Darcy as she healed from her abusive past. It was mentioned that she already had a foot out the door before she was attacked by her boyfriend, but it takes TIME to really heal from something emotionally damaging like that. It was very insta-love between Jimazu and Darcy, and the fact that this book happens over two weeks, it felt rushed and lacked growth.

I would still recommend this book if you enjoy heavy spice and a fluffy monster romance. Just be aware of the start and check your trigger warnings.

Take the trigger warnings SERIOUSLY. The first chapter is literally on page, detailed physical and sexual assault.

If the trigger warnings aren't enough to steer you away, you're in for a lot of smut. A nice smattering of fluff as well, but very heavy on the smut. It was… certainly something. I’m not big into the monster genre but cryptid romance caught my eye and I thought I'd give this ARC a go. From this point forward, I will stay in what I’m pretty sure is the very shallow end of the monster-lover pool. That said, it wasn’t a bad read, even for someone stepping outside my comfort zone. The romance was familiar, if a little hasty. There were a couple minor inconsistencies (does she have her phone or not, how much time has passed, etc) but nothing so jarring it ruins the book. If you’re thinking of exploring the monster genre I think this is a fine experiment, not too much but definitely enough to see if you want to go deeper. If you're a seasoned monster-lover, this may not be enough for you. While the spice is aplenty, the plot felt a little underwhelming. Areas that could have been really interesting to see explored fell by the wayside to spend chapters just eating, bathing, and smutting. The climax of the plot was frankly a little anticlimactic. But if you just want to try something new and kill a couple evenings (because this book isn't fast paced enough to need to finish in one sitting) then this is a fine book to reach for!

3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars

I saw Goatman romance and immediately thought "sign me up!"

The book starts off with a very, very heavy scene so please check trigger warnings and if necessary, read over that scene (it involves a semi-graphic sexual assault). I am all for bringing awareness to that when necessary. From there, the book considerably lightens as Darcy goes to find Zu, the mythical goatman.

It's both instalust and instalove for Darcy and Zu. And as the synopsis asks, what happens when they meet and learn they're fated mates? A lot of smut and a lot of domesticity (cottagecore!! Love cottagecore!!). If you're expecting conflict, there's really not much here - at least with Darcy and Zu. Darcy and Zu's relationship is very sweet as they fall in love and realize they're not alone.

I think the only disconnect for me was the very dark scene in the beginning followed by the cottagecore. I don't know if it's because I've worked with a lot of survivors of sexual assault and the stages of acceptance didn't seem to be there or since I'm a mood reader, my mood was off.

Overall, I did enjoy this, I loved the domestic scenes with Darcy and Zu, and I really enjoy Robb's writing!

3.5 stars. 4.5/5 spice level. - I received this book as an ARC and am here to give my honest review. - The beginning of this story had me invested and emotional as it starts out with our FMC in an abusive relationship and when he takes things too far (TW for rap£) she leaves and finds refuge with her two besties. Strong start! But then it leads to a trip with the 3 girls looking for goatman and insta-love. The book takes place over like a 2 week time period and most of it was pure mushiness between our two MC’s and spice scene after spice scene. Some action takes place towards the end of the book when the bf makes an appearance and I was excited for something big to happen, but it felt anticlimactic to me. - So that’s my take on the story, but if you are looking for a read that is super mushy most of the way through and super spicy with not a lot of other stuff going on, this one would be for you! (I am a lover of monster romance books, but I will say this was my first goatman romance and some of the descriptions for him weren’t my cup of tea. So def give it a try for yourself and make your own judgement!)

This book truly touched my heart and quickly became one of my favorites. It’s my first encounter with this author, and I can confidently say it’s a must-read.

Darcy’s journey of escaping an abusive relationship is both poignant and inspiring. Along with her two friends, she embarks on a camping trip in search of the mythical goat man. Jimazu, who has been alone for what feels like an eternity, is completely transformed when he hears Darcy's voice and realizes she is his mate.

Darcy is such a resilient character, shining brightly despite her past traumas. Her playful spirit brings a wonderful lightness to the story. Jimazu, on the other hand, is incredibly sweet and has such a gentle soul. His loneliness and innocence about the world, particularly regarding humans, make him endearing. I couldn’t put this book down; honestly, it features one of the most delightful couples I’ve read about this year. It offers a beautiful balance of low angst and high spice, sprinkled with humor. This story is definitely worth reading.

This book was really good. I've always liked shifter books like Werewolves and Dragons, so I figured I would try this one out. It sounded intriguing that the MMC wasn't a shifter, but not fully human.

I have never read a book about half human half goat. It was interesting and well done.

The writing was very good and intense. When the authors say trigger and content warnings, they mean it.

Please make sure you read them before starting this book.

It's written so well it's like you feel what the character is experiencing.

The FMC and MMC are adorable together and have perfect chemistry. I mean. Mates. So 🤣

It's so cute how inexperienced the MMC is.

Spoiler alert? She'll say a curse word and all I can picture is him looking at her like 🤔🤔. This book had me giggling and laughing with the FMC when it came to the MMC.

The spice level is top tier.

Again, trigger and content warnings. Please read them.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I received a copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving this review. All opinions are my own.

I loved the relationship between Zu and Darcy. It was so cute and sweet to watch them interact, and I loved reading their inner dialogue about each other. I also absolutely loved Frankie and Lexi; they are ride-or-die friends. I love seeing relationships like that in books because they are so wholesome and make me so happy. Please check your trigger warnings before you start this book. It does begin with Darcy, the FMC, in an abusive relationship, and the book does have a graphic SA scene. The author does say in the trigger warnings where these scenes are, and I feel like the topics were handled so well. I very much enjoyed this book.

“She wants to live in the woods, fulfilling her cottagecore, swamp witch type dreams.”

Honestly me too Darcy, me too. This book was a fun, quick read! I really enjoyed it overall would loveeee to read some more cryptid romance books. 😈 I will say definitely check your trigger warnings for this one but overall this book was lighthearted and I loved seeing how the relationship with Zu and Darcy progressed. And Frankie and Lexi are seriously the best best friends because honestly they did not bat an eye at their friend being in love with a goatman, truly the best friends we could ask for here. If you’re looking for a sweet and fun read this one is definitely it!

Thank you to the author for the eARC!

Coming April 25th 2025

Meet Darcy, a young woman who is in an abusive relationship, wanting to escape. Then there is Jimazu, a 400+ year old goatman who is tired of being lonely.
The fates, a god by the name of Pan tells Jimazu that this is his fated mate. Will Darcy fall in love with Jimazu or will he be forever lonely?
This story is beyond magnetic, it will grip your very soul as you read the captivating tale of Darcy and Jimazu. One moment it will have you crying and then the next moment laughing. The courtship between these two fated mates is so in depth and spicy. By the time I finished the book, I was happy and sad. Happy because the ending was pure bliss, but sad because I want more of Zu and Darce.
I was given the wonderful opportunity of advanced reading this cryptid romance by Torrence Robb. While this book does have some triggers in it. It was a book that gave me all the feels. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have. This review is of my own free will.

Author's debut and my first foray into monster romance 🐐I'm very grateful for seeing a descriptive sketch of Jimazu's 'pouch' 🫣(iykyk) on Torrence's social media so I already had an idea of certain... aspects. ha ha.

I'm also glad I knew this was not a dark romance, because although it does very much start that way, once the MCs meet, it's very much fluffy spice all the way.
Please check triggers if needed- warnings for on page SA and fallout in the first few chapters. I wholly wanted to dì¢k punch Mat, but at least our FMC Darcy has some supportive friends

I look forward to seeing what comes next from her writing cave!

I really enjoyed this book! More than I thought I would.

The romance was top tier, but the characters were my favorite part. Jimazu was so stinking adorable that I wanted to squeeze his cheeks. Darcy and her friends had me cackling most of the time, and I loved their close knit relationship.

The writing was fantastic as well. There were no huge issues with the plot, and the typos were minimal to none.

I highly recommend this for romance readers who don’t mind some seriously intense spice.

Good!!
Definitely check triggers cause the start is pretty heavy. But then we get into the fluff and spicy part. If you like long spice and fluff scenes this is the book for you! (If you want something short and quick definitely not this book)
I do wish we got more about what happened to the other goat-people because all we really get is that they just disappeared. Ok but how?? Illness? Pam took them?? This is why it’s 4 stars instead of 5

Thank you Torrence Robb for sending me this advanced review copy for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was a great cozy cryptid romance with tons of spice and a tiny bit of danger here and there.

Darcy is fleeing from an incredibly abusive relationship, and Zimazu is a lonely isolated goatman. They come together and form an amazing bond. They are helped along the way be Darcy's friends Frankie and Lex.

It's a beautiful story of found family, and acceptance.

Ended up giving up about half way through.
The writing was subpar, repetitive and monotonous. The FMC relays her rape detail by detail, which we had just read 10 pages prior.
Every action was explained (i.e. 'i sat my bag down, I pulled out my note book, I opened my note book, I put the pen to paper, I began to write.').
I really wanted to like this book and was instantly intrigued by the blurb. it simply did not deliver in content nor quality.

I love the way this book was written. I love the cottagecore vibes. I love the fact that Satyrs / Fauns get a little bit of love. I don't know if I'd call this a monster romance, but I still absolutely loved this book. Torrence is an amazing author. I honestly can't wait for what else she may drop for your audience. So, if you love mythical humanoids. Or ever wondered what it'd be like to fall for a subject under a Greek God like Pan. This is for you. I highly recommend it.

Received as an ARC, for an honest review.

Darcy and Zu are adorable. Darcy’s friendships with Frankie and Lexi was everything I would ever want in best friends.
Ones who don’t judge and just want you to be loved and safe.

The spice was spicing 🥵🌶️

The way Zu dotes over Darcy and just does whatever she needs and wants.

Only negative was… I wanted Mat to suffer more 🤷🏼‍♀️

Received this as an arc. I honestly didn’t know what to expect because this isn’t my normal genre at all!! It’s one of those books where you think to yourself, I shouldn’t be liking this as much as I do lol. It was definitely steamy & romantic. Never in a million years did I think I’d read a book about a goatman but here I am pleasantly surprised lol.
