Karina Knight was trained to eliminate targets. All men were prey and Luciano ‘Lucas’ Bianchi was no different. Killing him was supposed to be child play, but it wasn’t her game they were playing.
Captured but far from helpless, Karina finds herself at the mercy of Lucas and his second-in-command, Prince. But with a job to do and a target on her back, the last thing she needs is a distraction.
As secrets are revealed, their fates become dangerously intertwined and Karina must choose- will she remain loyal to The Order of Assassins that raised her or risk everything to stay by their side?
Who can she believe when trust is a luxury she cannot afford?
DNF @ 4%. The real assassination attempt was on my patience instead. I really wanted to try and stomach this book but the sheer lack of logic made it impossible to continue.
How is your FMC a trained assassin but spends hours watching her target without making a single attempt to kill him despite having plenty of opportunity to do so? And the only reason she’s able to loiter on his property undetected is because the notorious mafia leader MMC conveniently leaves his estate completely unguarded. Make it make sense.
Then comes the moment that truly broke me: she hides in the shadows and watches him pleasure himself. Instead of using the incredibly vulnerable moment to maybe DO HER JOB??? she contemplates the size of his dick and whether she could handle it.
To top it off her gun's safety is still on. She's been there for hours. Even if she wasn't ready to pull the trigger, wouldn't it make sense to be prepared for the unexpected? Of course the inevitable happens: he hears the click, gets alerted to her presence and when she finally fires she misses.
Ma’am. Get a new occupation RN. Apparently “trained assassin" here means highly skilled observer of male anatomy. Maybe she's just into slow-burn murder because her skills are about as sharp as her aim.
This story is full of twists and turns that keep you guessing. Every time you get a piece of the puzzle you realize there are multiple puzzles and the pieces don't make sense yet.
Karina is a trained assassin who has taken in a job to kill Luciano Bianchi who is the head of his family. She has been watching him and his shadow for a year and is ready to take him out. The problem....he is several steps ahead of her and knows exactly what she is planning.
Lucas and Prince have made it easy for Karina to get close. They want her even closer. These two men are commanding and ruthless. There is a war brewing and they need to keep their family and Karina safe.
This book left me on the edge of my seat wondering what might happen next. The ending was sexy and brutal and leaves way too many unanswered questions. I can't wait for book 2.
This story was so good ! It had so many twists and turns that will have you guessing which i absolutely adore! The FMC Karina, she is a trained assassin that has taken in a job to kill Luciano as he is the head of his family. I am super keen for book 2 as it has left me with so many unanswered question
I’ll be honest—this isn’t usually my type of book, especially with the level of action involved. But from the very first page, Her King pulled me in as if I was meant to read it. The pacing, the intensity, and the way the story unfolded made it impossible to put down.
There’s a touch of spice, but this book leans more into tropes than heavy triggers—except for one major one. However, the way Shai LeeAnn handled it was both thoughtful and impactful. The emotions were raw and real, but she balanced it beautifully by weaving in other elements of the story, so you never felt like you were carrying the weight of it alone. That’s something I truly appreciated.
Now, let’s talk about the FMC—because she is badass. She’s not helpless, immature, or making reckless decisions just for the sake of drama. She’s strong, capable, and honestly a rare find in books like this. I cannot wait for her story because she absolutely deserves it.
Overall, Her King was a pleasant surprise, and I’m excited to see what else Shai LeeAnn brings to the literary world. If you’re looking for a book with action, solid character development, and just enough spice to keep things interesting, this one is definitely worth checking out!
Her King by Shai LeeAnn Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Please do check the trigger warnings before reading. The way I devoured this book. Mafia enemies to lovers with not one but two possessive MMCs? Count me in, I was hooked from the very first page. Karina is a badass FMC who takes no shit from anyone. I loved emerging myself into the world of mafia kings and assassins and reading about Karina, Lucas and Prince’s relationship and seeing how it developed over the course of the book. I’m in desperate need to read book two ASAP 😂😅 Releases February 14th 🏃🏻♀️💕
Wow what a book! This was such a good read! I binge read it in 1 night as I couldn’t put it down and it 100% worth being tired for the next day!! Karina is an absolute boss and now one of my favourite FMC! She’s feisty, funny and deadly! my 3 favourite things 😈 Lucas 🥰 is an absolute psycho yet golden retriever for her! After secret are discovered nothing is as it seems 👀 And prince 🫠 who new the grump man would be so loveable 🥰
BUT miss Shai we need words about that ending!! 🤯🥺🫣
I never normally lean towards Mafia-style romances but I’m glad I did! I absolutely loved the FMC for the simple fact that she was incredibly strong and capable. I’ll be reading His Queen immediately when it comes out.
This is a book with many secrets. We meet Karina as she is trying to figure out why her perfectly thought out assassination plan didn't work. Slowly but surely we get brought into the world of kill or be killed. Karina's target, Lucas Bianchi is definitely a man to not be trifled with. Yet he still manages to have a soft spot for our FMC despite the fact that she is out to get him. Then we encounter Prince who is the right hand man of Lucas. They all begin a journey that I don't think either of them realized was going to be in their future. At least not Prince and Karina. The story of these three was definitely getting interesting and then we get left with another mystery of sorts. I think that this was a good story. I was able to read it without getting bored and the characters were definitely interesting. It was a little hard to follow the motives of everyone until they are kinda laid out for you. I am left feeling a little incomplete. There is definitely more that needs to be told about these characters and the world that they inhabit. Some of the other characters that we meet, don't really show their hands much and as such we are left to kinda guess at what is going on. There are a host of personalities in this story but one thing holds true, they are all kinda BA and definitely don't mind dropping a few bodies.
The spice in this book was good. I would give it a 3 out of 5 for sure. Overall, I enjoyed the story for what it was and I think that I would be interested in seeing what happens next for this cast. This book was definitely heavy on the crime vibes. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys Mafia books and FMC's that give as well as they get. There is also a lot of trauma for the characters in this book so definitely make sure that you check the triggers if that is something that you might run into.
So tantalizing good. Sometimes I get annoyed with the FMC for being too headstrong and find it annoying, but this was beautifully balanced. It was dark with just the right amount of edge and sweetness that didn't go too far. Fighting, trauma, blood, spice. I loved every second of it and want to devour more! I need more with that ending!
I absolutely ate this book for breakfast! 🤤 It was so good, but please check your triggers before starting. I adore the mmc's they were both top notch. Then our fmc was all sass and had me laughing at since of her antics. I am foaming at the mouth at the ending and can't wait for book 2, it needs to be out last week!
