1/13/25 A tiny fraction of me thinks I'll still continue on with this book ... but probably not. Reading this was suffering. It was a chore. I can't remember how far I got - I think close to 40? Too lazy to look in my phone that's how much I disliked it - don't even want to bother. And we were still at "ML definitely wants to kill FL" and that's not cute to me. I even tried reading the ending, the actual ending and the real/final ending [some jump to the modern world] - and it was all bleh. So I was like "well that's a shitty payout that's definitely not worth it."
Also omfg all the WTFery of ML and him being a demon ... ish? AND THE TENTACLES. SO. MUCH. TENTACLES. Squid? Octopus? like tentacles. *hurk*
This was so much a no for me. No. *shudders* Literally almost shuddered/did a half shudder thinking about it and typing this out.
Sad cuz I was really looking forward to it/the blurb was great. The tone however, did NOT NOT NOT carry through.
When the Villain is Bound to the Female Lead System
1 FL is Yun Yi? (Ah she’s a transmigrator) Omg lol I literally said out loud “oh shit oh shit she buried him” and cackled out loud Damn - living five years in seclusion to avoid the plot… 😹☠️ I’d do the same 😇 “Yu Yi felt as if she could almost hear the sound of the female lead's halo shattering above her head, and it was particularly pleasing to the ear.” - laughed out loud again 😹❤️💯
2 uh oh Xue ChenJing … the villain(?) is ML? 😱🙊😅 😱🙊 uh oh "Master, after triple-checking, this system confirms that she is indeed the female lead of this book, your one and only true wife. Indeed, your fate is heaven-ordained. No matter how many times you miss each other, you're destined to meet in the end." *perks up* “Please pursue Yu Yi, heal her deeply wounded heart with your love and tenderness, increase her favorability, and achieve a 100% happy ending.” Oh? “If the enemy doesn't move, I won't move - she decided to wait and observe for now.” (Enemy being ML… lol I like her so much)
😬😬😬 4 yo HOW is the author going to convince us on an actual bad demon ML 😱
6 what she can’t hear the system anymore?
7 ah she’s pretending - well he definitely deserves it. Oh wait no she is partially mind controlled 😐
14 ew so the tentacles really are him and she literally almost ate him. Ew. Also ew tentacles and octopus like
Skimmed 19 - sick of ML not getting a clue like at least don’t be actively awful to her
21 uhhh that hasty oath to save her life/make him her dog seems… ill advised (though I guess she had to/we’ll see?)
26 ok finally non demonic ML is out … will we get sweetness?
27 oh they’re… brothers? But why share a body? Older one is Xue MingYuan … and when young he threw his brother XCJ under the bus when he himself wet the bed…
Skimmed 28-30ish; ML has his tailbone back

Finally finished yet and quite frankly, I wasn't sure I'd like the ending which is why I put off finishing this web novel.
Obviously, I read the translated version - the English title is “When the Villain is Bound to the Female Lead System.”
FL is a modern day student, transmigrating into a novel. A terrible novel where suffering is equated to love. So she says “Stuff this, I’m out of here!” and completes her part of the story by going into retreat until the original ML finds another FL. That’s when she discovers another, unexpected plot involving task systems.
Think of it as wandering around back stage at a play. On stage, you can only say your lines but backstage, you discover that the bloodstained villain is merely a guy who’s tired of being compared to his older brother. You realize you should probably hang out with the good students but this guy is much more fun.
This New ML is also awful - he's literally designed to be an evil twin, one half of a soul - but not the kind of "emotional violence" awful that would ruin him forever. He's more like a herd of buffalo running amok through a town. They could stop but would it solve anything? Who started this stampede? What happens to the herd if it stops? Nothing good!
The solutions of the cultivation world are definitely not good either. FL was comfortable staying or leaving the current world for way too long. She understood that she'll lose someone important to her either way.
This set of gray-toned characters would make a great drama!
Just want to add that I liked the tentacles. Yes, they were a little too clingy but the author did a good job maintaining the balance between the "adult" nature of fantasy tentacle play AND the idea of loving a man with basically a pack of puppies on him at all times.
