Maybe in this Lifetime

Rate this book
Leyland Graham

The life I thought was mine never existed.

She never existed… or so I thought.

When I woke from my induced coma asking for my wife, only to learn I’d never been married, I was devastated.

And when Clementine walked into my hospital room—just as beautiful as she had been in my dreams—wearing an engagement ring another man had given to her, my entire world stopped.

Nothing would ever be the same until I noticed she wasn’t happy. That the man she’d chosen for herself didn’t love her like I had… like I do.

I knew then I had to fight for what was mine—for the woman who belonged to me, no matter the lifetime.

Clementine Warren

The life I thought I wanted wasn’t enough anymore.

When my patient mistook me as his wife after waking from an induced coma, I was terrified.

But when Leyland told me things about myself he shouldn’t know, it stirred something inside of me I had no clue was there.

Now, I can’t look at my fiancé the same. Now, I want to recreate the memories dancing in Leyland’s eyes whenever he looks into mine.

My world will never be the same, and it’s all because of him—the man who swears he’ll love me in every lifetime.

4.5⭐️ and 2🌶️

"Don't say things like that. Next thing you know, I'm wishing for the moon and stars and you can't give those to me."
"I would try, though," he said. "To give you the moon and stars, I would try."

Have you ever wondered if there was another version of yourself living in another lifetime? Leyland and Clementine experienced this in real time. Or was it real time??

Sometimes (with me most of the time) you need a good romantic book that will put you in your feelings and make you swoon at every word. This one was that and more but it also kept me on the edge of my seat!
Imagine waking up in the hospital, asking for your wife and your entire family is relieved because you're awake after months in a coma but they're also telling you that you're not married. In addition to that confusion, the doctor walks into your room and you recognize her as your wife. She's the woman in your dreams and the woman in every painting that you've created.

Clementine "Tiny" is engaged to someone else because in this lifetime, she is not Leyland's wife. I was so curious how her character was going to react to this news that she was Leyland's wife. Would she push him away? Recommend him for additional therapy? Ignore him? Her character development was beautiful to witness...in every lifetime.

Leyland pulled at my heartstrings every time he spoke to Clementine or his family. I love that they were so supportive of this secret he was carrying. Clementine was curious of not only herself in this life that Leyland experienced, but she was curious about how she loved him because she was not experiencing love in the same way with her current fiancé.

Asia pulled this story together so beautifully and it's one I would want to see play out on screen.
A man like Leyland Graham is one to keep. He is going to find his Tiny in every lifetime. Literally. 🤍🩷

I didn’t like this one at all, while the idea was cute the execution left me with more questions than answers. So they were together all along but he was in a coma nightmare? If that’s the case then what was James Rokers beef, like why did he have an attitude. Like sorry you gonna have to spell it out for me cus what was the marriage contract between him and Kayla. I also felt like it was like hella subtle and suspicious situations that made me feel like it was a set up like Roker did something or knew something but it led no where. Sorry this one didn’t do it for me. I also hated the 45 epilogues just write regular chapters cus 4 seperate epilogues with no real conclusion to the actual confusion really grinded my gears. Like yay they lived happily every after but WTF really going on here lmaoo

Absolutely Beautiful!!!!

I’m at a loss for words…this was emotional and beautiful! And I fought back tears as I read it! There were lots of twists and turns, but it kept you wanting more from Clementine and Leyland!

When we meet Leyland I really thought that maybe he suffered a head injury more serious than initially thought, as his dreams of Clementine were so vivid and real to him. Or that Dr. Roker had done something to him to make him forget, and steal his girl. Well, I was all the way wrong, and this story blossomed into so much more.

Although there were moments of confusion, fear, and frustration for Leyland, his love for Clementine never wavered, no matter what anyone else had to say. He knew that she was his soulmate in this life or the next, and he would always fight for her.

Clementine stood by her man through it all. He gave her a love that she could literally feel, as he was intense and intentional about all he did for her in their relationship. I found this read to be a bit different from the norm of Asia’s books, but different in a good way. Enjoyed it.

sooooo the plot sounded soo intriguing but it wasn't executed well. It was a bit confusing and left me with more questions than answers. Also I could've done without FOUR epilogues.
However, the writing style was great and the romance between Leyland and Clementine was beautiful, I just wish the plot was executed better and made more sense.

I like it

I found this book very interesting especially the paranormal aspect of this book. I like Clem and Leyland as a couple. Overall I really enjoyed this black romance book.

a soft, calm, & safe love. all of the FEELS, but the momentum died down for me a bit after that big “thing” happened. & i will say that this hits different when a loved one has been in an induced coma! def made me understand leyland’s perspective more!

Please take this review with a grain of salt, but...

Girl, I don't care. Before I expand on my perspective, I'll begin by saying I really don't like stories within stories. Maybe in this lifetime was not 2 stories in one perse, but it was. There's an alternate reality, which seemed to exist just to prove the love between Leyland and Clementine could withstand time and space. However, I didn't know enough about either character to be invested in their love. Was this book poorly written? Absolutely not. Was there a beginning, middle, and end? Absolutely. There were also 5 epilogues spanning 7 years and glimpses into the lives of characters irrelevant to this story. I know those were likely breadcrumbs for future or existing books, but girl, I don't care. The concept of the story was great, but I thoroughly disliked the execution.

Maybe In This Lifetime has so much potential, but the lack of depth and unanswered questions left me feeling disconnected. The premise is so strong, so I am frustrated that I didn't like the book as I hoped. The story needed to be longer, and a backstory in Leyland and Clementine's relationship could have made their love feel more believable and impactful. I did not feel the connection between them. Although this story didn't land, I plan to read more works from this author.

3.5 stars. I liked this one. I thought the love story was beautiful and Leyland knows him loves him some Clementine! I loved the way he loved her. I’m unsure if I liked the “coma dream” aspect or not. It was different but then it also seemed like a forgotten or unnecessary plot by the end. All in all it was still a beautiful love story.

Solid contemporary read. The concept was intriguing with a small twist that comes half way. This author does a great job of writing characters who love each other from beginning to end. The journey is more seeing how their love strengthen over time.

Oh, how I loved every moment of this book. It had me in tears so many times, yet it was absolutely beautiful. In every lifetime, I hope they find their way back to each other. This is definitely a story I’ll be revisiting.

This was....different. I love Ms. Asia Monique's writing, but this felt different.

I was totally invested in Leyland and Clementine's story even though I knew what was going to happen. After he woke up for real....It didn't feel right. It felt like he loved the "dream" Clementine more than the real Clementine.

Not my fave from this author.

I truly enjoyed this story. The love between Clem & Ley was beautiful, sweet, and heartfelt. Once you get to the climax of the story and discover the facts pertaining to Ley's coma, you'll understand why some characters seem more or less developed in this book.

One thing I definitely hated though was the 4 epilogues. Extend the current chapters, or turn those into 1 chapter alone. I love to know what happens post plot in any novel, but 4 epilogues is truly doing too much. Though it was beautiful to read about the couple's progress post traumatic situation, it would've been cool to sum it up one time.

The book has a tiny bit of spice but focuses more on the couple's relationship and how they navigate through their life changing ordeal. If you're looking for a habañero type story to read, you may not be into it.

Give it a chance anyway though. You just might surprise yourself, mess around and like it anyway. 😁

Happy Reading!

Spellbound!

The way Asia weaved this story was nothing short of amazing! Leyland awakes from a coma looking for his wife, Clementine, only to realize he wasn't married and his "wife" was engaged to another. The beautiful life he thought they shared was not real and that devastated and confused him.

After Clementine discovers this, she's puzzled and worried for her patient, but also intrigued. As she learns about the life she shared with him and what made them happy, she realizes she's settling with her fiance and slowly builds a relationship with Leyland. She discovers a love she didn't think she was capable of having.

Be sure to read this one, because all is not what it seems and when it's all said and done this raw and deeply moving story shows you when it comes to soul mates, love transcends through time and circumstances. This story is simply beautiful. A must read!

What if you woke up from a coma and the life you were living was gone? What if your wife or husband was engaged to someone else? What would you do? That’s the essence of this story - does the love you have for your significant other live through time and space? Is it forever?

I loved this story. Leyland wakes up to find the woman who he believes is his wife engaged to another. He sets out to win her back using all the things he knows about her. He’s successful until one afternoon he gets another really bad headache and once again wakes up in the hospital from a come with another dream life.

How Leyland finds his way back to Clementine, his wife, again and again is the story. And it’s such a beautiful one…it’s says true love prevails through all situations. It’s a premise that’s challenged daily so that’s what makes it so special in this book.

This was a stand alone book by Asia Monique and one of the best I’ve read by her! Borrowed this from Kindle Unlimited.

4.5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The storyline was so unique and refreshing—it immediately pulled me in. I loved the journey Leyland and Clementine took together. It felt like the kind of dream-like love most people only fantasize about, but they actually got to live it.

What stood out to me the most was how deep and unbreakable their connection was. No matter the circumstances, they were always drawn back to each other. That kind of soul-deep love is rare, and it was beautiful to witness through the pages.

Even though the storylines are different, it reminded me a little of A Song for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams—one of my all-time favorite books. Both stories carry that magical, timeless quality of love that transcends logic.

Overall, I absolutely loved Leyland and Clementine’s love story. It was emotional, romantic, and full of heart. I definitely recommend it to anyone who believes in fate, soulmates, and love that lasts beyond lifetimes.

Overall I like the meaning behind this book. Regardless of the timeline, if you possess continuous determination, you will achieve the same outcome. This book will cause you to question reality and your déjà vu moments.

And while I like the meaning of this book and the questions it brung I rated it a 3/5. Honestly it was exhausting trying to adjust to the “timelines”
The book started with him waking up from a coma, being told what was real was actually a dream. So obviously the mmc starts working to turn that dream into reality! only for him to REALLY wake up and see his reality was the dream they told was a lie??

I kinda wish the dream was the real timeline I felt like I knew those characters vs his real reality. Seeing that some characters didn’t even meet or hold a line of respect. While other characters formed connections or even kept the same relationship as in the dream world. Overall just hard to move on as a reader.

Ahhh! Asia Monique is literally one of my favorite authors and she has struck again! Asia knows how to write the hell out of an emotionally intelligent man…omg!! I’m just sitting here still in shock of how Leyland was so attentive, so aware, and just always made sure Clementine felt his love!

Leyland & Clementine…GEESH! They were meant to be and just truly got each other. This basically tells a story of a man who wakes up from a coma looking for his wife, only to find out that he was never married. The “wife” that he saw in his coma dreams is his Doctor (Clementine). However, Clementine is engaged to another man at the hospital. He basically sets out to prove their love and let me tell you the story is SOOOO much more than that and I’ll sit it right there.

Super deep and HIGHLY recommend!!!!!!!!

This was a sweet and soft read. There was a slight magical element with the whole alternate reality piece. The author showcased a strong love between the two main characters. Sometimes a little too strong, like we get it y’all in love. Don’t need to say it on every page. I loved the premise of the book but I think it could have been developed more in some places & executed a little differently. Overall it was a quick and easy read with little conflict (I almost want to say slightly boring?). There was potential here, but it left me with a couple unanswered questions & storylines that had no resolution.

Whew Clementine and Leyland were the sweetest love story. Leyland was in an accident ending up in a coma and woke up asking for his wife only to realize that he had dreamed about her. Clem was actually engaged to his doctor, Dr. Roker. Upon him waking up he told Clem about his dream and how well he knew her because they were soulmates. Soon Clem ends things with Dr. Roker and starts to explore Leyland. While Leyland thinks everything is perfect as he tries to prove his love, he wakes up again. Back in his reality he finds out that they are actually married and a lot of the things that he thought were real happened in his coma. Leyland struggles to adjust to what is real and what is not, so he starts going to therapy. Eventually having a breakthrough and him and Clem start mapping out everything that he was told when he was in a coma. To his surprise all the things he dreamt of happened, and he learned about them as his family talked to him while he was sleep. This is a story of true love, of being a person’s soulmate. Clem and Leyland were meant to be together in every lifetime - no matter their introduction. This was a sweet love story that makes you believe in the beauty and strength of finding your person. Even with all that happened the two of them fought for their love and their happiness. There were 4 epilogues, so the story felt wrapped up in the best of ways!

It was interesting

This was an interesting story concept, but it seemed like I just couldn't really get into it like I wanted to. Leyland and Clementine were, I don't know how to explain. Outwardly, the seemed like they were definitely meant to be, but their inner monologue didn't always match what they portrayed. The whole waking from a coma, not married to the love of your life who is your doctor only to realize you actually hadn't awakened was a bit much. Then when Leyland does actually awake and all is right, things are disjointed. Showing how the progressed down through the years was a better deal.

A Love that transcends

Ms. Asia Monique, ma’am, you wrote the heck out of this one. Clementine and Leyland’s story was beautiful. To love someone so deeply that even in a state of unconsciousness you still choose them demonstrates how real it is. I could feel every emotion they felt and it was like watching a movie. I had to pause several times while reading because it was so raw! This will definitely be on my read again list for this year. Will Duke and Ophelia OR Kayla and James get a book? If so, I’d def read them because I could tell that there’s room for more.

This was a good read. Very unique approach as I thought this was going to be an alt reality/ fantasy. Pleasantly surprised with the twists and building of the story beyond the twist. 4 epis were a little much but I went with it.

One thing I didn’t like was the way Clementine and Leyland made it seem like James assaulted Clem with that kiss. Just because she wanted to explore a relationship with Ley, she was disgusted and made it seem like it was something it wasn’t. Other than that, this story was super enjoyable.

I would love to read about Ophelia and Duke.
