I’ve been a prisoner for five hundred and fifty days.
Okay, technically I’m just stuck in my aunt’s four-story tower. And yes, Aunt Agatha is more "eccentric book club queen" than evil captor. But still—no piano, no freedom, and no escape from my own mistakes.
Like almost marrying a guy who pretended to love me just to get back at my brother.
So when Ryder Hawthorne—my brother’s best friend and absurdly hot Hollywood stuntman—shows up climbing my actual tower, I assume I’m hallucinating. He says he’s here to check on me. I think he’s here to test my willpower.
I swore I’d never fall for smooth talk and a killer smile again. But Ryder’s visits become the highlight of my day… and the flutter in my chest says I might be in more danger than ever.
After everything I’ve lost, is it foolish to hope for something real?
4.5⭐️ ARC Review: My first Rapunzel retelling, and I’m glad it was this one. By far my favorite in this series! Rapunzel is one of my favorite fairytales, Tangled specifically, but the original tale as well. And that’s what Marie based this book more on.
Ryder and Lily were such great characters. I loved their dynamic and their situation. The friendship bracelets?? Yes. Just yes. I loved their talks, their growth, their similarities, their differences, the shared issues with anxiety. Oh it was all just so good. The things Ryder did for her just because he wanted her to be happy. Now he is an MMC I can get behind. Her brothers on the other hand. I’ll talk about them two paragraphs down. Back to Ryder and Lily. I am just so in love with them. They were so good together. Marie wrote them so well.
I didn’t know how I was going to feel about Aunt Agatha, but she was an incredible character. Loved her to pieces.
I was really annoyed and frustrated with Lily’s brothers. They low key sucked in this one. Which was sad because I read their books and they were great. They had no right in doing what they did. They masked it as being protective brothers but it was low-key icky. The fiancés were also icky. Sitting idly while watching the boys lock up their sister. Lily forgave them too easily too. That was my biggest issue by far. But Marie tried to stay true to the tale in her own way so I get it.
Do I sense a Peter Pan retelling? The Darlings? What? I love figuring out what the next story will be. She has slipped that into all 3 books and I’m here for it. So excited to see where this last book goes!
*Thank you to the author for the complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Read if you enjoy: - Rapunzel retelling - Slow burn romance - Dual POV - Clean romance - Stunt man MMC - Pianist FMC - Age gap
While the author left a note at the beginning clarifying that the story is inspired by the traditional telling of Rapunzel, I can confirm that all the Tangled vibes I craved were there from a chameleon keychain to Lily's various hobbies to her wide eyed wonder and passion.
Reading this truly was the Best. Day. Ever.
I loved the choice to make Ryder a stuntman and Lily a pianist. It was a beautiful way for each of them to grow and learn from one another as they fell In love.
If you haven't ordered any books from this series yet, I strongly suggest you get on it!
When this fairytale comes to mind you may think: ✔️Tower, ✔️Long Blonde Hair, ✔️Hot Man named Ryder…must be like the magical adaptations we have seen on film right?!
Wrong.
Lily is not your magical kingdom’s princess. I have to say…it’s probably the best spoiler I can share. Don’t go in with expectations for this story, while it’s similar in the manner of comfort and joy that adaptations should have…it also puts a very prevalent sense of modernity in the twisted aspect.
Lily is in the tower because she made an error in judgement that led her to follow her heart 💜 and a man…to her almost ruin. Did Tristian ruin her? No. Does that matter? No. What he did was obliterate her public image and identity and her family’s trust in her sense of judgment.
He saw two points of vulnerability and milked them. He didn’t care, he just wanted the upper hand in every way possible. What he took is on one hand easy to fix, on the other…not so much.
The public image and identity damage control were fixed while in the first tower. Locked away with her grand piano, Lily was invisible to all…as her brother Adam took the hit for her indiscretions. When she realizes that her error in judgement wasn’t as erroneous as she has been led to believe…she unmasks herself and in a live stream, breaks her silence and gives her brother back the love he found. (BRO Read Isabelle and the Beast!)
But Tristian wasn’t done fighting. The other hand? The loss of her family’s trust in her actions and judgment? They are born out of grief and fear and pain. Loss is scary at any age, and her brothers will always put her safety first…at least they think they are. So off to Aunt Agatha’s tower in Brookhaven Lily goes. No piano to feed her soul and all alone.
Ryder is back. Home after being in recovery mode as a stunt man…his therapist is proud of his work and he is ready to face his future. Until he hears his friends sister is rumored to be in a tower in their town…can he help her find her way out when she has been told she isn’t strong?
thank you so much to the author for the early copy!! all opinions are my own!
i have been WAITING FOR THIS BOOK. FOR TWO YEARS. AND IT DID NOT DISSAPOINT. it was exactly what i wanted and more. Ryder is SUPER CUTE and adored him so much, his thoughts were so enjoyable to read and i could feel his worry for Lily coming through the page. and Lily's story really hit me to the core. i loved reading her story, how she changed and dared to do more things with help, her hobbies and her relationship with classical music was amazing and it was the first time in a while that i've read something so cute and that represented me so well with my thoughts about music. i LOATHED how men were trying to control everything about her and slowly realized that there were some things that she shouldn't take just because it was for protection. the ending had me in shambles and super nervous because i could guess where the trouble was coming from and uuurgh, toxic men deserve to d*e and i'm soooo happy we-know-who got what he deserved. now i cannot wait for the last book in the series and i need an Agatha's spin off because i adooored her character
“I know better than to believe my fairy tales and rom-com movies can actually come true…”
…and yet this story makes you want to believe anyway.
I have absolutely loved this series of contemporary fairy-tale retellings, and Lily of the Tower completely lived up to my expectations. I’ve been getting little glimpses of Lily throughout the earlier books, and I was dying to finally get her story—and to meet Ryder. Let me tell you… worth the wait.
This Rapunzel-inspired rom-com is fun, heartfelt, and perfectly swoony. We’ve got best friend’s little sister, forced proximity (yes, literally a tower), charming banter, and a swoony romance.
Ryder is protective without being overbearing, Lily is resilient and relatable, and watching their relationship unfold felt cozy and deeply satisfying.
What I really loved is the balance—this book doesn’t shy away from real-world issues like anxiety and healing after betrayal, but it handles them with care, hope, and so much heart.
Sometimes you just need a story you can escape into and be completely entertained… and this one absolutely delivers.
If you love Tangled, the OG Rapunzel tale, modern fairy-tale retellings, and clean romantic comedies with Easter eggs sprinkled throughout, this book is for you. And that sneak peek at what’s coming next?? I’m already counting down.
Lily of the Tower by Marie Soleil is available now and linked in today’s stores!
Happy Reading📚
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Content/Triggers: anxiety attacks (mostly off-page, one on-page), mentions of past abuse, mild assault situation, self-defense, romance-chaste kisses only.
This modern day fairytale retelling of Rapunzel is such a fun read. Due to some situations, Lily has been hiding out from the public before staying in a tower at her aunt Agatha's house. I loved the falling for your best friend's sister and friends to more tropes. Ryder, a stuntman, and Lily, a pianist, made a cute couple. Lily's character arc grew, and she was able to stand up to her overprotective big brothers. I can't wait for Gwen and Peter's story and hope that Agatha gets her own story.
DNF at 25%. I tried to get into this book, but I just couldn’t. I was first interested in it because it was a Rapunzel retelling and even though it was a romcom I wanted to give it a shot. But it wasn’t for me. I didn’t care for the writing or the story to be honest. The talking in all caps annoyed me. I didn’t care at all for the comment about the MMC’s rear end…no thank you.
Lily and Ryder are such a blast! This modern-day Rapunzel retelling is creative, sweet, fun and heart-warming. Themes of healing, self-confidence, and found family add great depth while the sweet transition from brother’s best friend, to friends, to more is just delightful. Sneaking in and out of the tower, hilarious Aunt Agatha, the small town of Brookhaven, and Easter eggs to other books are so fun. I was feeling all the feels as the story was coming to an end! Now I cannot wait for the last book in the series.
“I fold my arms over my chest, determined to be unaffected by his flirtatious eyes and muscles. Not that his muscles are intentionally flirtatious. They can’t help themselves.”
Lily of the Tower is the third book in Marie Soleil’s Once Upon a RomCom series and it’s a fun retelling of Rapunzel!
Lily’s father and brothers have been keeping her locked away for her own safety after a scandal with famous actor, Tristan Jackson. She is currently residing in the tower of her aunt Agatha‘s house where she does whatever she can to stay busy and has no contact with the outside world. That is until Ryder, a stuntman, scales, her tower wall at the insistent of his nephews and discovers Lily inside! From there, these two form, a friendship which leads to Lily getting to spend some time outside of her tower and write her teaching her that she is a strong, smart, capable, young woman!
Aww! Ryder and Lily were so cute! It was fun to watch their friendship progress throughout the story! I loved how Ryder helped a Lily be brave and strong and realize her potential. He was also so sweet and protective of her and I was so happy that thanks to him, she got to play the piano and see some of Brookhaven after being cooped up for so long! Lily was ambitious and beyond talented at playing the piano! I loved her passion and her ability to stay busy and better herself while being kept away from society!
Favorite quotes:
“This is the first hug I’ve gotten from anyone else, let alone a handsome man who stirs up all those fluttery feelings I’ve kept dormant for a year and a half.”
“This isn’t the quick hug of a family member saying hello or goodbye. This is comfort. This is safety. This is compassion, and I didn’t realize how much I craved all those things until I had it wrapped around my shoulders and waist.”
“I chuckle to myself as I head to the balcony, wondering what’s going on in her mind, and half-hoping she’s feeling the same thing I am. Because there’s nothing I want to do more than come back and spend time with her.”
“Have you had fresh sourdough before?” I shake my head, and she clicks her tongue. “I might be living in a tower, but you’re living under a rock,” she says.”
Romance ❤️🔥: LV 1 Kisses only (not descriptive, MMC does get his butt smacked by a grandma 😅)
Violence ⚔️: none really, on instant of self defense
⚠️The author has warnings in the beginning in notes, panic attack on page, attempted assault, brief mention of child going through chemo, grief over death of a parent, all where handled tasteful⚠️
Tropes/Micro tropes - Dual POV - Southern California - Stunt Man MMC - Pianist FMC - Brothers Best Friend - Forbidden Romance - He Falls First - Protective MMC - Teaches her self defense - Helps her through panic attack - Bodyguard
My Thoughts:
Oh I absolutely LOVED this story! I have adored this whole series but Lilly and Ryder were so so cute!! I have loved Lilly from her brother’s stories and was so stoked to finally read her story. It absolutely lived up to my expectations! Reading this just remind me how much I love this series!
Her and Ryders meeting during this story was great. I had forgotten about aunt Agatha but she is hilarious and perfect in this story! It was fun getting to see more of her in this story than the others. I loved the nods to the different Rapunzel retelling. I love fairytale retellings and Marie has such a wonderful way of bringing them into the modern world in such a fun way!
I absolutely loved Lilly’s growth throughout the story! I was cheering Ryder and her on throughout as well as cracking up at their many different interactions. Seriously the cutest!
Also I can not forget to mention the classical music playlist that comes with each chapter! I listened to the audiobook so didn’t listen along as I read but I feel the need to go back to reread it just so I can experience it with the music!
I’m already looking forward to the next book in the series! Highly recommend if you’re looking for a fairytale retelling that is just a fun enjoyable read that leaves you smiling throughout!
The audiobook is dual narrated and well done and enjoyable to listen to! 😊
~She’s stuck in a tower. Falling in love was not part of the plan.~
I’ve fallen deeply in love with this Once Upon a RomCom series and was beyond excited to get a modern day Rapunzel retelling–not Tangled, but Rapunzel. Lily’s story did not disappoint and it was heartachingly beautiful.
Lily has overprotective older brothers and made a rookie mistake with a romance gone wrong. After a rescue, they lock her up until the scandal dies down, but Hollywood stuntman, Ryder, sees this tower as a challenge and a friendship is born. With a forbidden relationship blooming, Lily grows in confidence. Ryder is the sweetest, most patient man ever and I fell for him. Lily is also lovable and I adored seeing her make the best of her situation. These characters are simply fantastic, and I especially appreciated Aunt Agnes. It was fun to see the brothers and how Adam (the beast) is slightly tamed, but still someone to fear.
Marie Soleil does a phenomenal job of creating a fairytale world and a bunch of characters worth cheering on. I loved the added bonus of classical music, as each chapter has a piece listed, and the big part it played in the book. I downloaded the playlist and thoroughly enjoyed listening to Lily’s favorites.
From start to finish, this one swept me away.
Content: there is a trigger warning–be sure to check; mild romance

This was a really sweet book, although I found myself rolling my eyes at multiple points because of the disclaimer at the beginning of the book.
"this is a retelling of the fairy tale Rapunzel, but it is NOT a retelling of the Disney movie, Tangled."
Umm... this was very much something between those two things. For one, the male lead's name is Ryder. And later on, we're told a story about a character named Eugene. And Lily does leave the tower with Ryder, although they consistently return and spend time together in the tower as well. There were also a handful of lines that felt very inspired by Tangled. And there was no blindness involved, which, in my opinion, is somewhat of an important point if you're going to clarify that it's a original-fairy-tale-based retelling.
Anyway, retelling source aside, this was a really sweet romance. I especially appreciated how Lily navigated returning to society after being hidden away for so long. That brought a touch of realism to the story in a bit of an unexpected way. I did not, however, like the separation toward the end. It felt like a backward step in character development for Lily and just made me frustrated. That being said, everything worked out in the end and we still got our happily ever after, so yay for that.
I'm looking forward to reading Gwen and Peter's story in the next book. The Peter Pan easter eggs were all over the place in this book, and I'm excited to see how that all plays out in the next one.
I loved this story! It was lots of fun but it also brought out some other emotions. I love it when stories make me FEEL. And all the emotions were heightened by the music that went along with each chapter. I'm picky about what music I listen to, especially while reading, but this playlist was exceptional! Being classical music, it's all instrumental (there might've been one that had words), so it's less distracting from the story. Each piece went with its chapter very well. One had me laughing because it was just the kind of music I would think of during a goofy "hide in the closet" scene. Another piece had me in tears because it was so melancholy while Lily was going through a difficult time. And the piece at the end was so beautiful! Anyway, back to the story itself. I loved watching Lily learn how to stand up to her overprotective big brothers. I appreciated that she didn't just shut them out of her life, but that she confronted them in love and gave them some healthy boundaries. Ryder was such a gentleman. I loved how he cared for Lily by teaching her how to defend herself, by fulfilling one of her deepest desires, and overall just by being there for her. He was so sweet and patient. I enjoyed seeing how the author took the tale of Rapunzel (not Tangled, though there are a couple hints to the movie) and made it her own. It ended up being a delightful story, as is always the case when Marie Soleil writes something. :)
Thanks to the author for providing me with an ARC. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
It felt like forever waiting for Lily of the Tower to release after reading Isabelle and the Beast, but it was worth the wait.
Lily of the Tower is an enjoyable rom-com with surprising depth. Please note that there are some trigger warnings at the beginning of the book.
I love the characters and all the references to Tangled, even though it is based on the original Rapunzel. Aunt Agatha definitely adds some pizazz. I also love it when characters from previous books pop up.
I highly recommend the love story of the beautiful musical prodigy Lily and the handsome stuntman Ryder with his flirtatious muscles. (You will have to read it to get the reference ;-) )
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author, but the opinions are my own.
After reading about Lily in book 1 an 2 I was BEYOND ready for this book and it DELIVERED 💐 🎶 💜 I absolutely eat up every fairy tale retelling by Marie and cannot wait for Peter’s book ✨
Lily. Sunshine in a human ☀️ I absolutely loveeee her 🥰 the thing she grappled with were heartbreaking, but she was so strong in the face of it all ❤️🩹 and her love for the piano was amazing 🎹
Ryder. What started off as a stunt turned QUICKLY into more 🤭 I loved watching him realize his feelings for Lily, as well as the depth of his feelings ❤️ Ryder has so many complex layers, and I loved watching him redefine himself through the book 📖
This book had so many cute scenes thy had me absolutely squealing and kicking my feet 🤭 from friendship bracelets to midnight concerts these two were adorable 🥰
And the setup for book 4? I NEED 💚
⚠️ CW: isolation, family-related trauma, panic attacks, on page ass*ult (not graphic, and handled with care) ⚠️
it would've been good had it not been a Rapunzel retelling. in no possible universe would this happen. a lawsuit is not gonna go away because you hide in a tower, she's an adult... this is probably illegal to lock her up, this is stupid, who has a freaking tower in the middle of their city 💔
characters made me mad tbh this tbh just wasn't for me
ARC Review! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Lily of the Tower is part of the Once Upon a Rom Com series by Marie Soleil. I've read all the other books in the series, but they can all stand alone, in my opinion, though they do connect.
Lily has had a celebrity relationship end in a very Georgiana Darcy type of way, and her over protective older brothers have hidden her from the public eye until things cool down.
Isolation will do a number on anyone (as we all learned six years ago), and Lily's mental health is getting worse and worse, until someone dares to climb the tower to find a lonely young woman... and saves her from her seclusion.
This is such a sweet story. I absolutely loved the playlist that came with it and listened to each song that corresponds to the chapter. What a cool idea, and it definitely immerses you even more into Lily's world of classical music.
The romance was so sweet, budding from a "best friend's little sister" into best friends and on from there. I loved how Ryder was so protective of Lily too but in a way that empowered her instead of stifling her.
Five mega stars for Lily of the Tower. I will read anything Marie Soleil writes. She has such a sweet way of writing loveable characters.
I received a free e-copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Things get interesting when he continues to visit her and spend time with her. Feeling grew but the thing is that she is off-limits. Will they able to get together? Will she be able to get her freedom soon? Read Lily of the Tower to find out!!
Review Have you imagined yourself being locked in the tower and a charming stunt man come and save you? This is Lily’s story.
This story is just so bittersweet at the same time and a forbidden love like Romeo and Juliet. Love Ryder and Lily so much. They are just so sweet together.
Love that he sneak in and spend time with her. She taught him how to listen to classical music while he taught her self-defence. They both showed their vulnerable sides to each other and also opened up to each other. He also helps her through her panic attacks.
Her overprotective brothers are annoying at times but it is because they love her but still it is too much. And also love her Aunt Agatha who always wants her to be . And as you read you can see Lily’s character grow.
There is some action in the story too. Can’t spoil too much you will have to read to find out. This book made me smile, laugh, cry, swoon and also want to be part of the Bookclub hahaha…
P/S Would like to have Galileo to help with my panic attacks and also would love to see Aunt Agatha to have her happily ever after too.
I was gifted complimentary ARC. All opinions are my own Thanks to @authormariesoleil for the ARC.
This is the third book of the Once Upon a RomCom series. It will be a retelling of some of our favourite fairytales. If you haven't read the first book which is Lily's brother, Henry's story please do which is entitled Cinder Luna. and also, second book which is Adam's story which is entitled Isabelle and the Beast.
And the next one will be Lily's brother Peter's story and also Ryder's cousin Gwen's story. It'll be a Peter Pan retelling. Can't wait to read it.
You can also read her other books of another series which is Canyon Cove Love Stories Series it's available on Amazon and it is available on KU.
Absolutely a 5-star read for me! I enjoyed this book SO much! I'm already a sucker for fairytale retellings, but a modern fairytale retelling can be hard to pull off really well. But Marie Soleil seriously knocked it out of the park! Since this is a modern retelling, the story takes place in our current modern world, with no fantasy or magical elements. But the author did a fabulous job of incorporating familiar aspects and parts of the original fairytale. And she still managed to put her own unique, creative spin on this well-loved tale!
This story centers around Lily and Ryder. After Lily makes an innocent, but very unfortunate and life-altering mistake in her personal life, her over-protective older brothers hide her away from the public in their well-meaning endeavor to try to protect her from possible danger and negative consequences of her mistake. And Ryder, the best friend of one of her brothers since childhood, unknowingly happens to find Lily in the tower she's been forced to hide out in. Ryder begins spending time with Lily in her tower to keep her company, and very quickly realizes just how special Lily is. His care for Lily and his desire to protect her slowly becomes much more than just looking out for his best friend's younger sister. The more time they spend together, the more they want to, and the more their undeniable attraction and love for each other grows. But the closer they get (and the more they fall for each other), the more they both realize that much more than just her tower and protective brothers could be standing in the way of their happily ever after.
I just adored both main characters! Both characters are selfless, kind, and genuine, and incredibly clever and funny. They both try very hard, albeit unsuccessfully, to fight their feelings for each other. But in spite of themselves, their love grows gently, slowly and oh so sweetly! Their sizzling attraction for each other is so swoon-worthy and you can't help but love them both and want them to have their happy ending! Marie Soleil's writing is hilarious and witty and had me laughing out loud, while also making me gasp at unexpected twists, and causing my heart to melt at precious, romantic moments. I was on the edge of my seat for most chapters and did not want to put this book down! I was already so excited to read this book because of my love of fairytales, but it was exceedingly better than I even expected! I most definitely recommend this adorable, fairytale retelling, kisses-only rom-com!
(I was given a copy of this book from the author, but all reviews and opinions are voluntary, are mine, and are 100% honest.)
Lily Of The Tower by Marie Soleil is the third book in her Once Upon A RomCom series. It is a retelling of Rapunzel (not Tangled). I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed this book. This is told from a dual POV, following Lily Stone and Ryder Hawthorne. Lily has been locked away for her own safety by her father & older brothers following a scandal with the famous actor, Tristan Jackson. She gets moved to her Aunt Agatha's tower in Brookhaven. Ryder is Lily's brother, Peter's best friend who is a stuntman. He's currently on a break due from work and goes to stay with his cousin, Gwen in Brookhaven. He joins Gwen at the fountain with the kids she nannies. The kids hear noises coming from the tower and believe it is a troll so Ryder climbs the tower only to find Lily and not a troll. He offers to keep coming back to keep her company. Ryder is absolutely perfect. Lily is so sweet. Aunt Agatha is quirky but so much fun!. I really enjoyed them. I was not a fan of Lily's brothers even though I loved them in the previous books. I understand they were only trying to protect their baby sister but she didn't need to be secluded. They do get better at the end thankfully. I devoured this book and did not want to put it down as always with Marie's books. I can not wait for the next book. (maybe a Peter Pan retelling!?!)
💜 Rapunzel Retelling 💜 Brothers Best Friend 💜 Forbidden Romance 💜 Swoony Kisses 💜 Closed Door
Favorite Quotes/Moments: This is the first hug I’ve gotten from anyone else, let alone a handsome man who stirs up all those fluttery feelings I’ve kept dormant for a year and a half.
“It’s not so much liking it as… an involuntary reaction?” He rubs his chest, then thumps his hand on his heart. “I felt it here. My breathing changed, and my chest got tight, and—” He cuts himself off, rolling his eyes. “I sound so lame.” Uh, no. This is literally the opposite of lame. This is probably the hottest thing a man has ever said to me. Ryder didn’t just sit and begrudgingly listen to my favorite piece of music with me. That’s what my brothers do. They’ll humor me, especially now that I’ve been isolated for so long.
“Well, here it is. Have you had fresh sourdough before?” I shake my head, and she clicks her tongue. “I might be living in a tower, but you’re living under a rock,” she says.
“Oh, I see it. I swear I see it.” “Sure you do.” “No, I do!” She points at my arms. “Those are definitely your arms. Your flipping flirtatious muscles.” “My what?”
“I would go anywhere for you. I would do anything for you. I will be by your side until the end of time, and then beyond that.” I give her a half-grin. “You’re never getting rid of me. I hope you’re okay with that.”
I received an advance review copy, and I am leaving my honest review voluntarily.
Lily of THE TOWER (Once Upon a RomCom, Book 3) by: Marie Soleil @authormariesoleil
••I give 4.5 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
~I’ve been a prisoner for five hundred and fifty days. Okay, technically I’m just stuck in my aunt’s four-story tower. And yes, Aunt Agatha is more “eccentric book club queen” than evil captor. But still—no piano, no freedom, and no escape from my own mistakes…
-Aww, my friends, The Once Upon a RomCom Series by @authormariesoleil is such a delight and Lily of THE TOWER, is no exception! What a dear story worth waiting for and enjoying from start to finish. This is such a sweet closed door story filled wonderfully with humor, heart, and layers of depth. I thoroughly enjoyed the lighthearted moments of swoon and the moments of learning and discovery within. The playlist that is included to accompany this dear story within was an extra bonus of wonderful beauty. Most of all, I loved watching a dear character, who yes, who had made some mistakes, was not only able to learn from them, but take the life lessons to heart, and make the most not only of her current situation, but also to take charge of her future, full of endless possibilities with confidence. Seeing her rise above struggles, concerns, and see who she really is, and what she wants for herself was refreshing and inspiring. While lighthearted, the layered depth between had strength and refinement. This cute story is worth the read but, absolutely start with book one to enjoy the delightful series in its full beauty!🩷🙌🏻📚✨
“I grin up at him, so grateful for him and the way he showed me who I really am… a woman who’s worthy of love, who can trust herself, and who deserves to live the life she designs.”

“You’re never getting rid of me. I hope you’re okay with that.”
After a year and a half hiding in her aunt’s tower, Lily is determined to avoid the world and the shame of a failed engagement built on betrayal. When Ryder, her brother’s best friend and a fearless stuntman, climbs into her life, his steady presence and charm begin breaking down her defenses. Now Lily must decide if falling for Ryder is a dangerous mistake or her chance at something real.
What you'll love: Rapunzel retelling (not Tangled) dual pov brother's best friend charming, flirty MMC pianist FMC overprotective family quirky, matchmaking aunt forbidden romance banter and swoon
I absolutely ADORED the first two books in this series, so I went into this one with high expectations and let me just say, it completely delivered!! This Rapunzel retelling feels fresh and original, weaving in just enough fairytale inspiration while creating something entirely its own. The romance is tender, and swoony and left me with all the happy sighs!
Ryder is a Hollywood stuntman bold enough to climb a literal tower, but it’s his good heart and effortless charm that make him irresistible. Flirty yet sincere, he’s exactly what Lily needs as she struggles with regret, self-doubt, and a seriously overprotective family. Watching him help Lily rediscover her confidence was soo beautiful!! Their banter shines, their chemistry is undeniable, and every thoughtful gesture had me swooning. And oh, that ENDING!!! Cue all the heart eye emojis!!!
I also loved the family dynamics (even if her brothers seriously need to relax), the delightfully meddling aunt, and the cameos from previous books. And that ending?! Absolutely perfect. I’m already counting down the days until book four...
This is the third book in the series and can be enjoyed as a standalone, but trust me, my friends, you’ll want to read them all!!If you love contemporary fairytale retellings with heart, humor, and plenty of swoon, this book is an absolute must read!!
I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.
Marie Soleil does it again with another perfect Disney retelling, this time of Rapunzel.
We were introduced to Lily in the previous books (which I recommend if you haven’t read those) so it was helpful knowing her backstory going into this. Lily is hiding out after the fallout of an incident with a famous Hollywood actor, so she’s staying in a tower owned by her aunt. We then meet Ryder, who happens to be best friends with one of Lily’s brothers, Peter, who’s a stuntman. When Ryder scales the tower to slay the troll (according to the game played by children), he stumbles, not upon a troll, but upon Lily.
They’re immediately entranced by each other but try to keep it to themselves for their own reasons, but Ryder starts sneaking up to her castle nightly to hang out with her and avoid anyone knowing he knows she’s there.
When Lily is finally able to leave her tower, she’s been isolated for so long and struggles with anxiety about reentering the real world. Ryder has dealt with his share of anxiety and panic attacks and recognizes this and helps her through it. Her brothers have always been so over protective they haven’t given her the chance to learn to protect and believe in herself, but Ryder is the one that does that for her.
It was so fun to return to Brookhaven and see so many cameos by characters we’ve met in previous books. Ryder and Lily have such a sweet relationship, and despite some bumps in the road I love how they finally come together. And as always, Soleil really brings the focus back to the FMC learning to believe in herself. We’ve also been nicely set up for the next book about Peter and Wendy and I can’t wait to see this all come full circle.
I received a free copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Reading this third book in the Once Upon a RomCom series feels like returning home. With heartfelt characters, a cozy town, and swoonworthy romance, Lily of the Tower adds a different, more serious layer in contrast with previous books. We all know the story, but intermingled with other classic fairytales, Soleil willfully leaves some easter eggs throughout her story.
Lilly is the youngest Stone sibling, and as the only lady, she grew up with four overprotective elderly brothers. Her character growth was messy and truly explorational, leading to a new sense of self-confidence and respect. Her self-doubt and anxiety felt raw and real, making you feel sympathetic to her. You can't resist her bright aura and positive vibes, especially Ryder. Ryder is so caring and loyal, despite his tough exterior. I love how he stands up for Lilly and sees her inner strength. Their moments together were adorable, as they were living in their own bubble. It also kind of felt like a Romeo and Juliet trope, but fortunately, with a happy ending.
I loved seeing past characters/couples back in the story, and Aunt Agatha added interesting plots and twists, acting as Lily and Ryder's matchmaker. There was another twist, which was kind of predictable, but subtle. Lily's passion for the piano was remarkable, and I love it when an author adds personal musical pieces to each character. Marie Soleil really put thought into the whole process, taking the reader on a romantic, emotional ride.
Near the end, we get glimpses of Peter and Gwen's story, which I'm very much looking forward to!
- 1st Person, Dual POV - Romantic Comedy - Modern day fairy tale retelling - Kisses Only Romance - Book 3; Once Upon A RomCom series
After reading the first two books in this series, I was intrigued to find out more of Lily's story and was very interested to see why she went along with certain things. I thought Marie did a really good job of explaining all of this and answering the questions that had been rolling around up in my head. I know I'm being vague but I'm trying to avoid spoilers.
I do have to say, there were certain characters that I was pretty mad at for a while. But that's nothing against the story or the writing. Actually, if the book and characters can draw me in enough that I'm fuming at a fictional character like they personally affronted me, then the book has successfully accomplished what I'm hoping to find in a book when I first open it up, some kind of emotion that connects me to the words on the pages.
This story was fun, yet emotional and full of so many wonderful characters who wormed their way into my heart. Ryder and Lily were both amazing. Ryder was the sweetest MMC, just a big softie over there with his "flirtatious muscles". Lily had some great inner dialogue and I loved her energy and joy, despite her circumstances. She also had amazing character growth. There was a good amount of humor and playful banter and I just really enjoyed being along for the ride. And like the other books, I love the adorable cover!
Also, remember that if you see Rosalie, pretend you can't hear her booming voice and run in the other direction. And I really want to be Agatha when I grow up.
Oh my goodness! I can't stop smiling and squealing in delight over Lily and Ryder's story; although it handles difficult topics like manipulation in a relationship, misguided feelings for a romantic partner, power struggles, self defense, and guilt over past choices, the novel does so with great grace and tact. Nothing is gory or graphic. I bounced between audiobook and digital print version, and I must say the narrators were epic. I loved that it seems the series has completely different narrators for the books preceding it, and I appreciate how well these two switched between characters in their POVs.
Plotwise, everything picks up where Isabelle and the Beast left off, and we finally get to see day-to-day life for Lily in her family's penthouse; the decision is made to let her move in with her aunt Agatha in Brookhaven, where she strikes up an easy friendship with Peter's best friend Ryder; without a piano, Lily spends her days taking college classes online, making friendship bracelets, and spending time secretly with Ryder. As their friendship blossoms into something more, old threats surface, and Lily must decide if she will stand up for herself and Ryder or comply with her brothers' wishes, even though it means losing the man she cares for deeply. The epilogue from Gwen's perspective at a family event where she gets to dance with Peter has made me excited to read Wendi and Peter when it becomes available. The author also offers a bonus epilogue when you register for her newsletter via Bookfunnel that gives us a bit more time with Lily and Ryder, sharing a sweet music-fueled moment somewhere special: here.
