This book did a fantastic job of convincing me I need approximately three months of vacation time, an unlimited airline budget, and the ability to digest pasta three times a day without consequences.
Intrepid Italy is packed with ideas that go far beyond the usual "stand in line, take a selfie, move along" tourist checklist. It dives into local culture, regional traditions, hidden gems, festivals, food, history, and enough gorgeous destinations to make my passport start judging me for sitting in a drawer.
My only real complaint? I desperately wanted a map at the beginning of each chapter. Italy has a lot going on geographically, and after the fifth beautiful village with an equally beautiful name, I occasionally found myself thinking, "Now... where exactly are we?" A simple map would've saved me from repeatedly playing a game of Where in the World Is This Pasta?
If you're planning an Italy trip—or just enjoy collecting vacation ideas you'll immediately add to your "someday" list—this is an inspiring guide that focuses on authentic experiences instead of checking tourist boxes. Just be warned: your travel bucket list is about to become aggressively Italian.

Awesome guide if you are heading to Italy. If you are keen on seeing another side of Italy away from the tourists then this book is a must. Lots of information on great places off the tourist trail. Loved the personal stories and beautiful pictures too
