My Review: Exploring the wonders of German cookery is a long-term project of mine. A lot of the kosher foods I eat daily have their roots in German cooking, so I'm curious to explore deeper if and when I get access to some sort of cooking space.
The recipes in this volume are very interesting to me, and the design makes the book quite appealing as an object: Hearty ways to start your day indeed. Remembering how very far north Germany is, it's very sensible to fill up on good-tasting stodge early in the day.
I'm most interested to try some of the griddled bready things Germany's gifted to the world: Of course there's always lunch and dinner to refresh you anew: I'll assume I've either piqued your interest or killed it entirely by now. I'll say I enjoyed looking at the book on my tablet, so can vouch for its utility on such a device. I myownself would always like a tree-book of something this lovely. I was most taken by the section that represented a look into one's grandmother's recipe box: [image error] A very usable, useful cookbook, and great for exploring new cuisines in the New Year.
I m so happy that Sophie Sadler wrote this book. Not only is it a walk down memory lane from our four years in Germany, but we now have recipes for some of our favorite meals.
Prior to leaving Germany, I had tried to find a recipe for Laugenecken. I found one, but it was in German, once translated, it did not fully make sense and didn't work in our North American oven. I appreciate that Sophie has done all of the work of ensuring that her version of the recipe works in North American kitchens. I found the pictures really helpful as well, especially when Sophie was demonstrating the techniques.
Can't wait for the release of this cookbook in October 2025 so I can grab a copy for my bookshelf.
Ich liebe dieses buch! After following Sophie/Dirndl Kitchen for years, I'm soooo excited that her cookbook was so beautifully executed!! The sweet stories she shares about her recipes reminds me of my own family and the memories that are created around food. These recipes are also accessible for those who are new to German cuisine. If you loves this book, make sure to follow her blog as well for even more yumminess!! Ich liebe dieses buch!
I’ve been on a search to find recipes that go with my ethnicities and cultures. But I wanted authentic recipes. Sophie brought that in this book, with recipes from her childhood and from her grandma. She even mentions that she’s FaceTime her grandma so that she could help with the recipes.
It was a Beautiful recipe book . And come on… look at that cover!!
My mom is German and she talked about what her mom used to make. She could make a few things but didn't remember the recipes. This book has the authentic German recipes she talked about her mom making. I can't wait to make some of these recipes for her.
I picked this up because I was curious about German food, and I was not disappointed. While I couldn't pronounce 90% of the recipes, they look easy, beautiful, and delicious.
