I listened to the audiobook version and this book would definitely be something I will look to buy in print. There is a great amount information that I could see myself wanting to re-read over and over again. I appreciated all the medical research and statistics that were included, many details that I hadn't known before reading this. The connections that were made to biblical verses was interesting and really makes you think about your own choices and how they do or don't align with the kind of lifestyle and mindset that is best for you. The only concerns I had was that some of the suggested food options and supplements could be costly for someone on a tight budget, however overall it doesn't seem like a strict diet fad, it seems like you can take all the valuable information given and choose to make some healthy changes at your own pace and within your budget needs.
**I received an advanced copy from the publisher via NetGalley with the understanding that I would provide an honest review.
Wow, I cannot suggest this book enough! I was given the privilege of reading it prior to its release date under the stipulation that I would give it my honest review, so here goes.
I have read many health and nutrition books as these topics are a great passion of mine, so when I was given the opportunity to read this one prior to release, I jumped at it. And it did not disappoint.
The authors clearly stated the reasoning for their suggestions, pairing their own life experiences of illness and healing, making it so relatable. The fact that the whole purpose of this book was also to do these things God’s way was just the icing on the cake. There were so many references to the people and lifestyles of the Bible and each one included biblical references and verses to back it up. It almost felt like I was also doing a deeper dive into the Bible all the while getting practical applications for my everyday life. How cool is that!?
The book wraps up by giving you a practical 7-day eating plan and includes recipes and a shopping list for an easy fool-proof way to get you started. Who doesn’t want a step-by-step set of instructions for how to actually apply the guidelines set forth in the book?
And finally, there are tons of scientific evidence sources cited in the back so you can refer to all of the research referenced throughout the book.
I will be purchasing my own copy, probably highlighting half of the book as I reread, and will definitely be referring others to this book when they ask for my advice!
Thank you to Worthy Publishing for allowing me to read an advanced copy, and to NetGalley for providing the platform.
This was a great book. I read it as a preview from the publishing company which I was so excited to participate in. This book was so interesting. I learned so much from reading this book....so much so that I am going to purchase my own copy to reference to and re-read. It contained lots of Scripture relevance to our foods....in particular foods of the earth....like that isn't chemically enhanced or processed. Like potatoes get a bad wrap all the time and I never understood that because they are from the ground....but this book reinforces how the potato isn't bad....it's what we add to the potatoes to make them bad. There's also a section about fasting which was interesting. I learned a great deal about that too and am trying to do the 12/12 fast. I have done this for 3 days now. It's a start...right...gotta start some place. The book also contained a grocery list for the Biblio diet and recipes to try that follow along with the Biblio diet. The cancer fighting components in this book are mind blowing too. Just a great great book.
*Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the free copy*
Initially, as I was reading, I was veering towards marking this book at 3 stars. Much of the advice are things that you can find in many health and fitness books: Eat fresh and organic foods, avoid pre-made foods that are overloaded with salt/sugar/oil, have more veggies, etc. However, some of the advice ranges from benign but untruthful to dangerously misleading.
For instance, recommending Celtic salt isn’t the end of the world. While boasting its trace minerals, however insignificant nutritionally compared to other sea salts, it’s not harmful in the slightest to ingest. Recommending raw milk, on the other hand, offers far more risks. Just because people did so thousands of years ago does not make it safe.
I’m also bothered by the recommendation of making a health tonic out of tree leaves as a form of cancer treatment. I understand that the book has made multiple disclaimers to refer to a doctor, but when the authors go so far as to mention that they’re even skeptical of taking antibiotics for an extreme infection, I can’t help but feel as though the disclaimers read more like ‘Well, of course you should refer to a doctor… *wink wink*’
I personally believe that taking care of one’s own body in a healthy, mindful way can be an important part of someone’s spiritual path. I’m also someone who sooner makes a cup of tea over taking a cold pill when sick. That said, I find it disturbing when people make claims of miraculous recovery because of their juice/supplement/*product*. I’m reminded of countless other people who made the same anecdotal claims, only to get sicker or even die because of the strong rejection of medical support.
Love!! Couldn’t recommend enough. Wish I read it a long time ago. Realized everything I’ve been eating is poison 🤢🪦. No but in a more serious note so cool how God designed our bodies to heal themselves if we just allow it to happen!!! WOW
In idealistic terms, this book provides the quintessential dietary program and approach to health one can strive for. However, where this falls short is in the reality of the world (or country) we live in.
This book addresses many of the issues people can expect to come across in the United States: - Diminishing nutritional value in topsoil - Increased usage of processed/seed oils - Added sugar (grrr) - Increased sedentary lifestyles - Ultraprocessed foods
As someone who’s passionate about the health and wellbeing of those around me, I wish everyone could follow this guide to better health. However, the downside of this book comes in the absence of any mention of the cost associated with following their program. It is unrealistic to expect families (or even individuals) to afford grass-fed proteins, organic fruits and vegetables, amongst other mentioned products.
The reality of many Americans is to provide calories for themselves and their children, which makes it a purely cost effective choice to supply themselves with processed foods.
Despite my issues with their idealistic approach to health, I still agree with their principles and was amazed by the authors’ anecdotes of healing from cancer, Chron’s disease, and other medical conditions utilizing their well-researched diet and holistic practices. The inclusion of visualization and trusting in God brought a fresh perspective for someone who also deals with chronic pain.
This is the kind of book that deserves to be highlighted, consumed and cherished for generations to come.
I appreciate the insights provided regarding dietary choices and their biblical foundations, delivered in a respectful manner that avoids shame or guilt. The book frequently offered surprising and enlightening information. The authors address sensitive topics directly, providing well-explained perspectives and biblical references, which I found refreshing as an avid reader of health and wellness.
*The biblical perspective on fasting—reminding us to lean on God rather than food to nourish our souls and strength. As Josh passionately states, “I’m reminded that I am weak and I need God,” echoing a truth that stirs the very core of my faith and my health.
*Deep dives into subjects seldom explored—raw milk, electrolytes, essential oils, salt, leaves of trees and the difference between grass-fed and pasture-raised meats…. In addition to many more.
Oh, how I wish I could visit Josh and Jordan’s Tennessee farm! To wander through Jordan’s lush greenhouse! I want to taste all the leaves—every one! The passion, the authenticity, it’s contagious.
The Biblio Diet is thoughtfully written and easy to understand. Having read all of Dr. Josh Axe’s publications, I look forward to now reading Jordan’s The Makers Diet.
Thank you to Worthy Publishing for providing the incredible gift of an advanced copy. I am so grateful!
I would highly recommend this book for the dietary and general lifestyle recommendations. There are several interesting ties to Biblical references and some definitely felt a little more stretched than others. Over all I really appreciate the care and perspective taken with this book in regard to viewing health as a responsibility of believers to offer our bodies as living sacrifices to God (Romans 12:1-2).
My primary caution would be with Rubin’s prayer and the way that it is posed that health and well-being is Gods desire for all people. While I would agree that death and disease are unnatural (God didn’t create these but they are the result of the fall), we cannot fully escape the sin cursed world this side of eternity. God ultimately chooses to heal some and allow others to suffer until death because in each circumstance that will bring the best good for that individual and the most glory to God.
Overall I really do appreciate the principles to steward both our bodies and the earth for God and only hesitate on the side of phrasing things in such a way that may falsely guarantee a healing.
This is a game changer. Making my entire family read this and going to clean out the fridge. This book is everything I’ve wanted to know about so many health things, and it’s all condensed into one book thankfully.
I was just reading Deuteronomy and had to come back and add to my review! Deuteronomy 20:19 also supports the authors’ conclusion (primarily based on Ezekiel 47:12 and Rev. 22:2) that the leaves of fruit trees heal and sustain life aka heal cancer etc. God tells the Israelites that when they go into Canaan and war against the heathenistic people there, that all was to be destroyed EXCEPT the fruit trees because they could eat from the fruit trees (aka the trees which bear meat). A specific command was given to not cut down the fruit trees…this is not a coincidence! God is NOT random. Rather, God is in the details!
“For the tree of the field is man’s life” Dt. 20:19 *specifically referring to the fruit tree!
This book is SO GOOD. I got the audiobook version first (loved the narration) and about 1/4 of the way in, I ordered the hardcover. It’s truly packed with good, useful information. It obviously does have religious references so if you can look past those (if you aren’t religious) then definitely get this book. The information is REALLY GOOD. I cannot stress this enough. I’m a God-loving girly so it was really neat seeing them connect the food to verses in the Bible and furthermore, explain scientifically why these foods are good for our bodies. The authors (Jordan and Josh) share their personal testimonies too on how food healed them and honestly, it was very inspiring.
This book deserves 10 plus stars! Have you ever read a book and think, well, this book is going to change my life...? That is what I thought when I began reading this. I read it in libby from my library, but now want my own copy. This is a book you will be using many times in the future, rereading and referencing it continually. And there are recipes and a meal plan and a grocery list to go with the meal plan.
The two Doctors that wrote this book aren't just writing something they've read about. This is their lives they are writing about. They both got horrible diagnosis from doctors saying they were not going to make it, but overcame all of that and are thriving and are sharing how they overcame the diagnosis.
Some of the topics are fruit, meat, Bible mindset, exercise, recipes & meal plan, and healing leaves. That is just some of the chapters, but each chapter hit home with me about eating to God's glory and eating from Biblical foods. This book truly is going to change my life and help get the inflammation out of my body and for my body to be balanced as it was intended to be. I've already tried making my own tea from grape leaves and blueberry leaves, and it tasted great.
This is a Christian book based on the Bible's foods, and I'm so thankful for them in sharing their healing stories with the world. Highly, highly recommend for everyone, for each of us to have more wisdom about what we put into our bodies.

Jesus tells us that he’s the Bread of Life. I just never stopped to realize before that His bread isn’t anything like the overly processed loaf of disease-causing refined white sugar and flour we devour every day!
In all my years dabbling in diets I can honestly say I’ve never once considered taking a Biblical approach to health & weight-loss. Seemed to me like Jenny Craig and Dr. Atkins were the experts on getting skinny, not God!
I’ve been on one kind of diet or another for 3/4 of my life! From the time I was 10 years old, I willingly jumped on any bandwagon that promised thin was within my grasp…but it rarely ever was. Low carb, low calorie, no fat, no sugar & no fun - been there, done that, got the t-shirt.
The Biblio Diet presented an extremely unique approach to this topic. Packed with scientific research and personal testimony, it’s a whole new take on your typical “diet book.” No get-thin-quick schemes here, just simple, straightforward ideas rooted in God’s design for humankind.
Like Dave Ramsey’s Christian financial advice is simple but NOT easy, so are the concepts presented in The Biblio Diet.
A good read for anyone who has done every diet under the sun but hasn’t given up yet!
This is hands down the best healthy eating/living book I've read and I have read a lot. If you only want to read one book on healthy eating/living this book will give you the information you need to know.
My one complaint (and usually I would have way more than one so this is a compliment) is that they don't delve further into the benefits of Fresh Milled Flour. In the "Bread of Life" it is briefly mentioned and if you are unfamiliar with it would probably be glossed over. The book states, "Stored in their whole-kernel form and milled fresh, grains are packed with nutrients." That is it. No more mention of the health benefits of milling your own flour which I think should have at least gotten a couple paragraphs. Buying a grain mill (a modern countertop kitchen appliance) and milling my flour fresh is probably the biggest game changer that has helped everyone in my household in feelable, tangible ways.
This is a great practical resource for anyone wanting to simply improve their health. With data, the author guides the reader to see that the natural state of food, as God created it, is generally the best form of food. And the more processed (or ultra-processed) our food is, the worse our health is. Not just that, but he lays out the many health benefits of certain natural remedies, fasting, and how to start. He also advises on which food label practices are best to follow/avoid. I knew it was bad, but I was surprised seeing here how terrible ultra-processed food is for us. It shouldn’t be considered food at all. Don’t worry, this book doesn’t focus on the theological debate of permissible food, but rather it highlights the blessings of God’s design in biblically defined food. I’ve experienced firsthand the benefits of eating biblically clean, and it really is life changing. I’m excited to start trying other new foods and practices mentioned here.
This was just the push I was needing to get back on track. As a Christian I believe that the Bible is not only the living word of God but also a cheat sheet for living a healthier and happier life. This audiobook helps navigate its listener through a healthy lifestyle that is backed by science as well as scripture. I found this audiobook to be encouraging, straightforward and very easy to follow. Highly recommend to anyone looking to optimize their health and wellness.
VERY COOL STUFF. It’s like God knew what He was doing when creating earth’s plants and animals!;) Loveddd looking at remedies and physical health displayed in the Bible. The testimonies of the authors and their own health battles (and triumphs) were so encouraging. You already know I ate up the data on processed foods, seed oils, dye, etc. Def taking much from this and highly recommend on audio! (be sure to check out the included PDF as a handy cheat sheet for all the key points!)
This was incredibly practical and encouraging. As someone with multiple health concerns mentioned in the book, the super nitty gritty, on the ground information was super helpful. I probably won’t be using each and every thing recommended, but I will and already have implemented many of the things it talks about. Great read!
If you’re looking for your first step into clean eating or you’re ready to “level up” the clean eating you’ve been doing for years, this is for you. Loved the deep dive into the various areas of nutrition, facts, scriptural references and personal stories shared. This is one I want a hard copy of to highlight, book-ear and revisit time and time again. The Ancient diet, exercise and mindfulness wisdom has much depth but feels simple to begin applying one step at a time.
So so so good, listened on audiobook which I’m grateful I did because I never would’ve finished it (would’ve stopped to take notes too often tbh) this way I just absorbed all the info. Then I ordered the physical book to go back through and see the actual lists of foods. Really loved this book and loved that they continually remind you to pray first before anything.
Such an INSANE read for anyone wanting to further their knowledge of health from a Christian perspective. It’s definitely convicting but very practical
I have read books by both Rubin and Axe and have enjoyed them. They are both natural health advocates and this book is "a dietary guide to the way God intended us to eat and live--flourishing". The majority of this book consists of chapters on what types of foods to eat and not eat. They also have a chapter with a seven day eating plan and some recipes. Other chapters are about the related lifestyle aspects including essential oils, herbs, mindset and exercise. As a certified holistic nutritionist, I agree with the vast majority of their recommendations. They recommend a whole-foods diet, eliminating highly processed foods and incorporating fasting. As the title implies, this book is based not only on modern science but also on principles they have found in the Bible. As a Christian myself, this was in concert with my own faith, but might be off-putting for non-Christians. They recommend following the Old Testament laws given to the ancient Jews of abstaining from pork and shellfish. They give health reasons for this, but I am not convinced. I still enjoy locally caught shrimp and oysters as well as some pork on occasion. In my opinion as a nutritionist, avoiding these foods is not necessary for a healthy diet. This book is great as a succinct overview of what constitutes a healthy diet and lifestyle. I received an advanced copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
This book was full of information! I’ve read many, many Christian weight loss books before and none of them have been like this. This one is different in that it gives you a list of spices, for example, that have healing and healthy properties, but it doesn’t stop there. These guys dig deeper and tell you why. They give you the reference in the Bible as well as the scientific explanation. I thought it was fascinating about the healing leaves, never in my life would I have thought to drink fruit tree leaves. Or the shapes of the fruits/vegetables being for certain things, such as carrots resemble eyes when sliced or grapes look like the little things in our lungs. This book has opened my eyes to a whole new way of looking at what I put into my body. I like that there are recipes in the back with an eating plan, and they give you a website to visit. I’m hoping the website will be live once the book is published.
Really the only criticism I have is that I can’t always afford organic or raw honey, or whatever the item is, I know it’s best. My flesh is willing but my wallet cannot, haha! It was a little disheartening because it felt that was the only way they wanted you to consume foods, which I understand why, but it does encourage me to choose better foods to ingest. I would love to have this book physically so that I can highlight, make notes, and mark it for quick reference.
If you've been researching natural eating for a while, there may not be a ton new here for you. His section in fruit leaves was new to me. If you are new to natural eating, this is a great summery!
I wish he had included more on how each natural food is designed to be eaten that way and how modifying /processing can break the design.
He also had some statements in his cancer healing section at the end that bordered on New Thought/ Bethel beliefs. By that I mean believing God has promised to heal you and not allowing anyone or any thoughts to disagree, thoughts have power (sort of). There were no statements about how God may chose not to heal you. That made me nervous, but in general his statements on taking your wrong thoughts captive and act on what you want was good. And people do need to hear that your behavior effects your health!
The Biblio Diet is a staple for Christians looking to live a healthier life through God's provisions. I gave this book my highest of ratings, a 5 out of 5 stars due to the narration and writing. This book was excellently narrated with an amazing pace and tone to keep the readers focused. The information in the book was very well explained and you can really see the effort these authors went through to maintain an understanding across all forms of listeners and readers.
During your time with this book, you will learn about fasting, how diseases start and how to prevent them, anything and everything about plants and how they are the ultimate medicine, exercise, the power of prayer, and so much more. Sit down with a notebook and pen, you will want to take notes! There are many testaments of God's miracles throughout in accordance to the method of healing they are explaining that is simply awe inspiring.
I highly enjoyed this and cannot wait to read more by both of these authors! Thank you so much to Hachette Audio and Worthy books for the opportunity to listen and review this advanced audiobook. All opinions are my own.
