The illustrations in Floof were mediocre, but the pacing of text vs image from one page to another was brilliant. Schmoof's illustrations are mediocre, and so is the pacing. And what up with anti-vacuum propaganda? To quote the author's obnoxious 4th-wall-breaking caption: "oh dear."
This was so precious. I loved reading Shmoof's story, and absolutely LOVED seeing Floof in this one, too. The artwork is so beautiful, and simplistic, but so engaging. Kids will love this as much as they loved Floof, especially seeing as Shmoof is a dog. The ending cracked me up as well, that was amazing.
Thank you to Allen and Unwin for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review. This one was worth every single page.
This story is adorable. It’s got very simple language and illustrations for children, with some subtler humour that I appreciated as an adult. It adds on from the first book with a similar repetition pattern but this time we have a dog joining the family. It has themes of friendship and accepting change and it was just really sweet and fun.
I am fast becoming a Heidi McKinnon fan. Shmoof is the 3rd book that I’ve read. In this follow up to Floof, readers meet Shmoof at the same time as Shmoof meets Floof. As expected when a dog meets a cat, there’s a little commotion at first, but soon the 2 join up to vanquish a common enemy and discover they like more about each other than they originally thought. Adorable and funny.
Sequel to Floof. Shmoof is a delightful dog who has joined Floof's home. I love the way McKinnon introduces him and then shows the relationship grow between the two. Younger readers will enjoy the humor and the brightly colored illustrations.
A cute story that is great for read-a-louds surrounding pets/dogs/cats. The simple language and fun story make it a perfect story time pick for ages 2-5.
Themes: dogs, cats, friendship Vibes: pets who are rivals turned warm fuzzy fur friends (dog & cat) over fear of a vacuum Ages: baby to preK Pub year: 2025
A fun and silly story that makes kids laugh while sharing a nice message about being yourself. The colorful pictures and goofy moments make it a great read-aloud for young readers.
