Kitty Sugarman is a lot tougher than her name implies. Still, she's content with how her small- town life keeps her removed from all the changes happening in the world? Like the Unveiling of the Others. That is, until a near-tragedy strikes and Kitty shifts and discovers she is part of the "Others".
She also learns that her father is not in fact dead and lives in Vegas. When Kitty heads to Vegas to find out more about her father, it's his sexy, seductive second-in-command, Max, who meets her. Soon Kitty is in trouble and Max is trying to keep her alive because she just maybe His...
Born and raised in coastal New England, Christine Warren lived in the South and the Mid-Atlantic before hopping to the other side of the country to take up the life of a transplant in the Pacific Northwest. She completely bypassed those states in the middle due to her landlocking phobia. Hmm, need to research a scientific term for that...
When not scrambling frantically to complete her latest writing project, Christine spends most of her time as a crazy animal lady, hanging out with her dog Levi (he’s the one with the hair) and pretending to train him to have some manners. She also hangs out with her horse, Cal—a thoroughbred with a craving for strawberry licorice twists—her goddog, Merlin; and her best friend, fellow author Hannah Murray. In addition to playing with her pets, Christine’s hobbies include identifying dog breeds from photos of their underbellies, appreciating fine and not-so-fine wines, shopping for the perfect pair of Christian Louboutin shoes, and most of all reading things someone else had to agonize over.

WOW! I love the way Christine Warren writes and I'm a HUGE fan of her "Others" series. "Walk on the Wild Side" is the 5th book and this time she serves us a wicked hot helping of werelion, or as they prefer Leos. If you've missed out, here are the other books in order in this series: "Wolf at the Door", "She's No Faerie Princess", "The Demon You Know", and "Howl at the Moon". They're hot and they're supernatural.
Kitty was a perfectly normal 24-year-old farmgirl. She was raised by her grandparents after her mother got knocked up at 16 and left her on their doorstep on her way out of town. Kitty always thought her father was a local boy who died before she was born. During a traumatic car wreck, Kitty 'shifts' for the first time and subsequently learns that her father is one of the "Other", a werelion to be specific, and he lives in Las Vegas and has known about her for 23 years. She really doesn't want anything from him except the chance to tell him off but good...OK, and maybe he can help her learn to control this whole lion thing.
Max is the 2nd in command of Kitty's father's pride. He's also about to become the Leo because Kitty's father is dying. When Max is dispatched to pick Kitty up at the airport, he's fully prepared to protect his Leo from his "long-lost, money-hungry, accidental daughter". Instead, he's captivated by this vulnerable, yet strong southern beauty. It doesn't take long before he realizes somebody's out to kill her. It also doesn't take long before he realizes he'll do whatever it takes to keep her safe and mark her for his own.
Mmmm, mmmmm, mmmmm...I want me a werelion just like Max. Their attraction sizzles from the first meeting, and the love scenes? Get me some water and a cigarette!
I'm going to keep this short, because I want to move on from this paranormal romance with minimal fuss. This book was a trial. I read it years ago--more than ten for sure. I was in high school. This was the time I thought Twilight was the height of literature and awe inspiring. My love life was nonexistent, thus untried, so I could not identify what was healthy or not in romantic relationships. Everything I knew of love was either familial or what I gathered from books. (Just to give an idea of my naivete and why, these many years later, I'm on the opposite spectrum.)
Fast forward to today: The #metoo movement is strong; rape culture is being identified, questioned and fought back against; I've been in several relationships and have found my forever man, and it is a solid and healthy commitment that feels like home; I've experienced sexual assault and been in a couple relationships with men who were abusers; I have become wise in my experience and have learned to listen to others when they choose to speak. I have an interest in gender dynamics, in how the outward appearance and reception of gender are mostly social construct. There are numerous more sexual orientations known to me than when I was in high school, and I try to be more "woke" every day and meet heart and mind with people who identify differently, especially when these individuals are in the minority and still suffer ostracism for who they inherently are. I'm not longer the sheltered young girl I had been, staying up late and reading romance novels like my life relied on getting through those pages.
What I found most difficult is how this book gives the vibe that it is feminist--Kitty, the MC, is a strong, self-sufficient, independent soul who can handle just about anything and everything thrown her way. She is a woman who knows what she wants, she has a strong will, and she sticks to her guns....Or at least she did until Max, the love interest, comes into her life. It isn't that she is less of what she had been previously. Oh, no no no. She was still those things, for the most part, but Max is an Alpha Male who has been groomed to take over the Pride as the next Felix (the leader) and he has his sights on Kitty. Where does this take him and her? Into many situations where she is constantly, CONSTANTLY, having to cater to his demands, his wants, what he expects her to do. Yes, she is in an area of the world she is not familiar. Yes, she did not know she was a werelion and doesn't understand fully what that entails. Repeatedly he tells her that he understands that it must be overwhelming and difficult to learn as a woman in her twenties that she is not what she expected herself to be, her entire life being turned upside down. AND YET he is always acting like she is a part of the Pride, that she has known this way of life and back down when he tells her to do something. Which is it, dude? Do you sympathize with how her life has done a 275 degree flip into unknown territory, or are you going to treat her like she needs to answer to your demands without objection?
And don't even get me started of the times where he threatened her when she refused to do something or the grossly possessive way he staked his claim on her. I felt very skeeved out as I read this. It is crazy have much my tastes have changed! High school me raved about this. Today me encourages you to utilize your time more wisely by reading other books. Of course, you may have a different experience and love it, and I won't judge you for it at all, but this is definitely not for me any more.
The 5th book in the Others series, is going down as one of my faves in the series. What we know is that The Others, vampires, shifters, Fey etc; have made their come out to the human world. The storm has calmed down and humans are slowly coming to terms with that, they are things that go bump in the night. While this series has its ups and downs, this was definitely an up for me.
Kitty Sugarman is having a bad night. She gets hurt in a car wreck and all of a sudden she is standing on all fours. Where the heck the did the fur come from, and what is up with the paws. Seems her mom left something out about her biological father, he did not die. He lives in Las Vegas and yeh he’s an Other and he left a little surprise in her blood. Kitty is a Leo aka Lioness, and she can’t seem to wrap her brain around it. So she is off to get some lessons in all things Leo in good ole Sin city. What she gets is crazy half siblings and the sexiest man she has ever seen.
Second in command or baas of the pride Marcus Stuart is sent to retrieve the prodigal daughter of his Felix( leader of the pride). What he finds is someone trying to kill her, and this great Sheba looking lion taking up residence in the airport bathroom. He cannot believe the instant attraction he has to the women, must be her out there innocence and her deer caught in headlights look. He has an inkling that this woman might be his mate and only time will tell. See Kitty is about to inherit a fortune and someone wants her dead, its up to Max to keep her alive.
I loved Kitty, she was funny and sassy. I loved that she was her own individual woman, and she didn’t get diamond in her eyes when she found out just how wealthy she was going to be. This book had many villains for Kitty, and she handled them like a pro. Max was your typical alpha-male but with a personality. He was a delight and could be the strongest guy in the room and emotional when needed be. Together they just clicked, there’s a sexy little scene with them in their lion form. Mmmmm spicy.
Overall a sweet read with interesting characters, and some tame action scenes, but who cares when you have witty dialogue and sexy men. If you haven’t looked into this series then you might wanna check it out. Just some enjoyable PNR.
This was a pretty good book. I can't believe I have never found this series before. It is a paranormal one and usually I am all over them. It had a good amount of alpha male and sexual tension to keep me going. And the whole "mate" thing gets me everytime.
I believe this was the 5th book in the series and I will go start back at the beginning. This is a standalone book however it would have been helpful to know some more details about "The Others" before reading it. I guess they had a revealing in previous books that I missed.
I read it all in 2 days! It is really good and worth reading. I respected Kitty and her southern quality and found that Max (or Marcus) had a lot strength and even had a soft spot for what was important to him. Surprise ending though!!
1.5. Harsh laugh. Where to start. So first off, we have a young man wandering around sowing his wild oats, knowing full well that his dipping in any watering hole will trigger said hole's fertility, and hanging around long enough for an oat to take root, then...leaving a 16 year old girl pregnant with a half Leo?!
That's the setup.
Our h, having just discovered by accident she's a shifter (literally, she was in a car accident and shifted to get out), finds out her daddy wasn't a human boy killed in a car accident all along. This is a small town she's from. I'm assuming that everyone else in town knew the truth? Emmmm... Right.
So she contacts dear old dad (after her grandfather tells her the truth), and goes to visit daddy warbucks in Vegas. Daddy is dying. Daddy has an ex wife and 2 legitimate offspring who are not happy to share. Daddy has a second who runs the show.
At some point, I started skimming. I'm not sure if it was the H's ordering her around, or calling her childish every time she objected. Or maybe it's the fact that she was soooo unbelievably accepting of her father. She had all these thoughts in the beginning but a good nap, a few arguments, sex, and she was calling him "pa". Yeah; I couldn't suspend belief that far either.
And then there are the inconsistencies. I know the books were written out of order, and I've (mostly) accepted that she was making things up as she went BUT... on one page, the trip was 11 hours, a page and a half later, it was 9 and a half. There was the whole "do leos have fated mates or not" question because it was not really answered. To be honest, the half-assed attempt at explaining made it even more questionable. It was implied that the male would cause his MATE to become fertile, it was never explained if that was ONLY his mate (and if that's the case, then why the abandoned pregnant teenager?) , or any female he boinked (see first paragraph).
This is the best one of her books so far. The Others have Unveiled their existence to humans and it's been more than a year. It doesn't really have much of an impact on assistant librarian (true to the stereotype, she doesn't get out much)Kitty Sugarman in rural Tennessee. That is until she gets in a car wreck and the panic and adrenaline makes he shift into lionness form. She discovers she's half Other and goes to Las Vegas to meet her father who is the Felix of his Pride and is dying.
This could be a typical gothic-novel-with-a-supernatural-twist as the family gathers around the dying man, coveting his fortune and his status and jealous of the mongrel girl in their mix. That along with a very handsome hero, the second in command and titular heir to leading the pride. The characters make it a wonderful read and the story, though perhaps predictable, is enjoyable. As Ursula LeGuin reminds us, it's the journey. This journey is fun, steamy, and enjoyable.
I could have done without the librarian-in-rare-books unworldliness stereotype. But that's a minor quibble.
My rating on this book of Christine's is Hot Hot Smokin Hot. I loved this one. The best so far... I couldn't put it down. I loved Marcus, yummy so Alpha. But he doesn't want to scare off Kitty who has come to Las Vegas to meet her real father who just happens to head the pride of Leos that Marcus is in. Kitty finds out that she is not just a human during a car accident, when she unexpectantly changes into a lion. Her mother has to confess that her father is a werelion therefore Kitty is a halfbreed. So Kitty is in Las Vegas to learn to control her Other side. Accidents and to many near death experience for Kitty convinces Marcus that someone is out to kill her. Wow does he become very dominate. Love this book.
I Give this Book a 3-3.5-4/5 Star Rating, Listing as 4. I’m listing this book as a 4, due to the sentimental value of this book.
HEA(?): Yes. Relationship Type: MF Heat: 3.5-4/5 Romance: 3/5 Drama: 3-3.5/5 Suspense: 3.5/5 Pacing: Time wise in the Book it’s pretty short, but pacing isn’t too bad, until near true ending where the pace is picked up quite a bit. Formats Read: Paperback & Audiobook
Audiobook Rating: 3/5 Story: 4/5 Narration: 3/5
I gotta say this book is SUPER memorable for me, this is one of my favorite shifter books. I really wanted to read this book again cause I was in the mood for a lion shifter romance, I decided to try the audiobook. The Narrator isn’t too bad in the long run the farther you listen, but it’s not entirely enjoyable (to me). I personally didn’t like how she voiced the characters and in particular the men.
It made me more aware of Kitty. Kitty to me is likable, but also not really a likable character, she’s nice but also well not to bright it seems. I really wish she was a stronger character, I didn’t remember her being such a stubborn and weak character, the one thing I seriously didn’t like was how the author made her seem like...a..strong nonchalant and a heavily forgiving heroine(?) And to me sadly she just wasn’t a good fit.
Ok, so, I have to admit. This one threw me through a loop and I almost didn't read it. Every Others novel thus far has had the same setting and mostly the same characters. I usually know without having the read the back that it's going to set in NYC, there's gonna be at least one stop in at Vircolac, that's just the drill.
This one is truly a stand-alone. It's set in Las Vegas, there's no ties to the New York Others community, it's completely different. I was so surprised I nearly convinced myself I didn't like it.
But then I read it anyway, and although it's entirely set apart from the rest of the series, I really enjoyed this one. It's fast-paced, you can't help but love Kitty Sugarman (who feels like she just walked out of a Barbara Kingsolver novel), and the setting is a nice change. I'm glad I didn't 50 page this one.
In national bestseller Christine Warren’s Others novels, vampires, witches, werewolves, and more have come out of the supernatural closet. Now, the world as we know it will never be the same... Kitty Sugarman is a lot tougher than her name implies. Still, she’s content with how her small- town life keeps her removed from all the changes happening in the world—like the Unveiling of the Others. That is, until a near-tragedy strikes and Kitty discovers she has abilities . . .thanks to a father she never knew was alive. He also happens to be a were-lion and leader of one of the most powerful Prides out West. WALK ON THE WILD SIDE When Kitty heads to Vegas to find out more about her father, it’s his sexy, seductive second-in-command or baas of the Pride, Marcus Stewart, who commands her attention. Now that she has tempted Marcus’s hunger for a mate, Kitty finds herself stuck in a vicious struggle for her father’s fortune, while deadly unrest stirs within the pride. Kitty’s rivals won’t rest until she’s gone for good, but Marcus will fight until his last breath to save her…even if it means going against the pride. __________________________________________________________________________________________________
#94OVERALL, I GUESS THIS WASN'T MY "CUP OF TEA". THE WRITING WAS EXCELLENT, I JUST WISHED THE STORY WERE DIFFERENT, AND THE CHARACTERS LIKE THE BOOK THE "BIG BAD WOLF"- WHICH I LOVED SO MUCH, WHICH IS WHY I PROBALY ASSUMED THAT THIS BOOK WOULD BE SORT-OF THE SAME...
THOUGHTS AND WHY I DID NOT CONTINUE TO READ ON: the writing was great, it was excellent in fact...its just that i don't like how the story shaped itself. The plot was ok, the characters was ok(but they could use some work),etc. I guess i didn't like this book was because 1.I like books with a badass girl as the main character(kitty was barly badass, she was more of a wimp that had a hell of a temper). 2. I like books where the background characters like the dad to be strong, even more since he's "alpha"... I don't like to read about weak people, mostly because it makes me think back on how "life is never fair". When I read a book, i just like to be living a fantasy, something amazing(i might sound confusing, but its the best i can do-btw im writing this at night, might explain why). 3.I usually like books where everyone envys and likes the main charcter girl, but this book is the exact opposite. Everyone(including martin(dad)'s ex-wife and family-whom i hated and wanted to punch on sight). The more i hate about it though is that kitty didn't give them what they deserved, instead she threw insults back at them and then proceeded to hide behind Marcus(max).
PLEASE DON'T READ FORWARD/CONTINUE ON IF YOU HAVE NOT FINISHED OR READ THIS BOOK YET. SPOIERS EVERYWHERE!!! I LIKE TO JOT DOWN NOTES TO RE-READ SOMETIMES AND REFRESH MY MEMORY OF THE BOOK. kitty always thought she was just normal, considering she never loved her mom truely(her mom never wanted her and left her to her grandpa n grandma- whom she calls mamaw and papaw) and that she never met her dad. Consider her shock when she finds out that her father is alive, and is 1. rich 2. famous for his status and 3. is leader of the Leo pack Kitty was even more shocked when after barly a few minutes of stepping out of the plane she is attacked by someone who said "you shouldn't have come here"....it didnt help even more when she met her step-mother, and her step-sister/step-brother. But oh well, she's only here for her lessons(to control her inner animal", but it seems like MAX HAS OTHER PLANS. And he plans on convincing her to stay, even risk his life to protect her from her hateful fans.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
To be honest I didn't finish this one. The book is about 330 pages long, I made it through about 290. That was the point when I realized I didn't care even the faintest amount what happened next and was probably wasting my time forcing myslef to continue. So this review is based on the first 90% of the book.
To begin, I've been on the fence about this series since I started it. For the most part I rated the first four novels (I have not read any of the E-books) as average--good premises, decent characters, but weak or downright sloppy execution. I continue trying anyway. I think part of that is that, like many people, I like the series factor--repeating characters, continuity, etc. So my first caution to readers about this book is, if you are thinking of reading based on it's value of fitting into the series you are going to be disapointed right off the bat. It takes place in Las Vegas and has none of the same characters or plot threads introduced in previous books that I'm aware of.
The premise of this book is actually very interesting. Kitty finds out that she's a werelion, a trait inherited from a father she never knew. She travels to Las Vegas to meet him and learn what it is to be a Leo. She her father, Martin, and discovers that he's dieing. She meets and falls in love with Martin's second in command, Max. Martins family are hostile toward her, she struggles with her new and comlex emotions, and tries to find a place for herself between the human and Leo world.
I liked Kitty. I liked Max. I didn't feel that either one underwent a tremendous amount of developement (which is disapointing, considering the plot) but at least I liked them. The romance is even decent. I can't say spectacular, because frankly the instantly in love and choosing you as my mate thing has been done in the genre way to much. As it appears in this book, it seems like a cop out for the author--it means she doesn't have to take the time to actually build the chemistry and the relationship. But I can live with it, because it's sexy in it's own way.
The best way that that I can explain this book is that it's a lot like a soap opera. There is in fact a scene where Kitty looks at the melodrama unfolding and thinks just that, that everyone is behaving like soap stars, and its ironically accurate to the entire book. At the core of this are the "villains" Drusilla, Nadia, and Peter--Martins ex-wife and two children respectively. They are so much like fairy tale stepmother and siblings that it's laughable. Shallowly written, painfully simplistic one dimensional characters who exist only to make the heroine's life difficult. The problem with this is obvious--the character's are flat and predictable, so the conflicts are flat and predictable. Again, I think the author chose to show that these people are just plain bad, rather then showing them as layered complex characters who change and develope. I was pretty disapointed that the relationship between Martin and Kitty, the one conflict with a lot of interesting potential, petered off without what I would call satisfactory resolution. Nope, everything is surface level, mindless, simplistic. Why bother?
This book may have finally ended my efforts to continue with this series. I had hoped it would only get better.
Nope, this one didn't work for me. I really, really disliked the female lead... fine I HATE her... She finds out that she is half leo, she randomly shifts, so she decides to take a trip to meet her biological father. Her plan is to go there, yell at him, tell him how he is a terrible person for leaving a child alone, know that one day she would shift into a lion.. okay well I'm pretty sure I'd feel the same way. My problem is that when she gets there and realized that he is dying, she does none of it. That may make me sound callous but all she does is tell him that he should have contacted her.. and then after he says sorry.. she's like oh okay and calling him pa. I understand it's 100% stupid to hold a grudge against a dying man but you can't go from loathing someone to instantly taking care of that someone.
Okay so meeting her father is done and over and now all she wants to do is learn how to control her shift. Smart plan. After she learns that, she's going to go back home and forget all about the pack and forget about the fact that she's a leo... okaaay. Two days later, she is in love and the mate to Max, the FELIX of the freaking pride. ohh and one that that bothered me so freaking much: She has been attacked a few times during her 2 day stay. Great okay. Then her old half brother attacks her in front of the whole pride and Max. Natural Max attacks her half brother. You know what you would expect of the felix of the pride. but she freaking stops him!!! Excuse me, if you are going to mate with the alpha or felix, you should freaking expect that he is going to have to hurt people. He's a freaking lion for heavens sake. But she stops the felix in front of everyone. That makes him look weak and makes her a horrible whatever the mate of the felix/alpha is.
I wanted to like this book. I think it could have been a pretty cool story, but I just hated the characters. Ive already explain some of my reasonings for Kitty, but I also didn't really like Max. He didn't do anything specific... At least nothing I can think of at the moment but he also didn't stick out either. He wasn't all alpha male and he wasn't really sweet either. He just was.
Absolutely amazing!!!!! Definitely in second for best in the series so far! Just behind Big Bad Wolf lol ;) Max was so insanely hot!!! He was so strong and big and dominant and so sexy! I loved how tough and powerful he was and how he was always so protective over Kitty (though perhaps at times a little too much), but he was so possessive over her, it just added to his deliciousness lol ;) The sexy scenes were fantastic, despite how long it took to get to the first one and that there was only two in the whole book, but they were still great! Especially the second scene when they were in their animal forms! It was so primal and heated and crazily delicious!!! lol ;) I also really loved her descriptions of all the lion forms. Max's sounded like a real king of the jungle and Kitty's fit her character really well because it wasn't very big or intimidating, but it was tough and stubborn and determined :) It was sad that her dad passed away before she could really get to know him, but I really love how Christine Warren wrote Kitty's feelings and reaction toward his passing. It would have felt so fake if she had mourned him the way a daughter would mourn her father, instead the author wrote it like she was mourning the loss of a good man. Even if you don't know someone, just know of them or know others close to them, and that tells you that they were a good person that touched a lot of people's lives, then you can mourn the loss of a good person in the world. It just felt so much more real to me. Overall, another truly fantastic novel by a truly fantastic author :)
A woman discovers she's not quite human in this adult fantasy romance.
I read this book so many years ago. I remember loving it, but, oh times, they are a changing. I did not connect to this story at all during my second read.
Timeline I think the events in this story take all of three days. Three days for the main characters to meet, fall in love, and learn they are mates. THREE. DAYS. When I was a teenager, I probably thought it was super romantic. Not anymore...
Characters I actually liked the main characters, Kitty and Marcus. But the short time frame of the story made it really difficult for them to grow as individuals or as a couple. It's hard to believe Kitty is suddenly "OK" with her other status when she's had less than a month to think about it.
Ending I was not a fan of the ending. It's HEA, but the events leading to it just seem so bizarre.
I was considering reading some of the other books in this series, but I don't want to spoil my memories. Perhaps I will just fondly remember this series without reading them again.
tl;dr A condensed time frame made it hard for the characters, the plot, or the romance to organically grow.
Kitty is an average, 24yr old, young southern librarian who realizes her life isn't so average when a tragic car accident causes her to shift into a lion or “Leo Other”. Never knowing her presumed dead father was a Leo, Kitty’s normal human life has just been sent into a tailspin. Kitty’s grandfather, the only father figure Kitty has ever known, tells her that not only is her father alive but also the leader of the Los Vegas Leo Pride. Shocked with this new and frightening side herself, Kitty accepts an invitation to meet her father and travels to Los Vegas. That is where she meets Max, second in command of the Red Rock Pride and appointed heir to her father’s legacy. Kitty must face repeated threats to her life by an unknown force, deal with the knowledge that she is something other than just human, an illness that is killing her biological father and his horrible family that hates her and thinks she is out to steal a very sizable inheritance. Max is instantly drawn to Kitty and recognizes her as his mate and will stop at nothing to protect her and keep her safe.
I laughed and cried as I felt my heart clench with Kitty and her struggles to find herself. I couldn’t put it down. The attraction between Max and Kitty is very heated and includes some very steaming love scenes, but it did not overshadow the story. All in all this was one of my favorite in the Others Series. Wow, what a great book!
This is another great installment of Christine Warren's Others Series..
In this book we meet Kitty whom up until a couple of weeks ago thought she was human, through and through. She has a mother who's plans have never included a child,a father who she never knew and is dead, and grandparents whom were all the parents she ever truely needed. So when she gets furry and shifts into a 350lb African Lioness, to say that she was suprised is a gross understatement. So, she is finally told whats up, and once her father is contacted, he iinvites her to Las Vegas to meet him, and to learn about who she is and how to control the Leo (werelion) inside of her. How could this go wrong?
Max cant believe that Martin, his Felix (Alpha Leo) has a half-breed daughter that he is meeting for the first time.. she is probably a gold-digger who is only after a sweet life seing as how she has been "wronged" by daddy dearest. What he doesnt expect is the sweetly curved innocent looking woman who gets off the plane Martin's daughter should be on. Why does she bring out his baser instincts to the point where he has to literally bite his tounge instead of biting her? This meeting is going to hell in a handbasket and quick....
This is a great book and I read it often. This, Big Bad Wolf, and One Bite with a Stranger are possibly my most favorite in this series... just great.
Trapped in a car wreck with her mother, desperate to escape before the car exploded, Kitty "unconsciously" triggered her Change and turned into a genuine Big Cat! So when her mother admitted that her father is actually alive and living in Las Vegas, Kitty decided to go see him and get some training on how to control her inner lioness.
Landing in Las Vegas, Kitty promptly walked into a day-time soap opera, with a rich and dying patriarch (her father, the Pride leader), his scorned ex-wife together with a bitchy half sister and a sullen, resentful half brother. Kitty herself is casted as the opportunistic gold-digging long-lost daughter.
When she kept having life-threatening close calls, the only ally is her father's 2IC, the handsome and sexy Max and her father's heir-apparent.
I really liked Kitty and her "Southern" approach to things and how she stood up to her father's other family. It is also enjoyable to get away from the Big Picture world of the previous books and learn more about other were-beings.
Very enjoyable story of a young woman, Kitty, who learns she's a shifter, has a father who is the Felix of a pride of shifter lions who is dying and several hostile, possibly homicidal relatives who don't want her around. She also meets her father's second in command, Max, who she finds overbearing but also reassuring and incredibly attractive. The chemistry between Kitty and Max is great as Kitty learns to master her ability to shift and figure out how to fit into the shifter world, if she even wants to. The ending was my least favorite part of the story where too much happened all at once and I didn't find the characters' behaviors entirely congruent to the situation. But despite that stumble at the end, I found the book fun to read with a good plot and interesting, likeable main characters.
Some of the books in this series haven't grabbed me at all, but Walk on the Wild Side isn't one of them. Kitty and Max's(Marcus) story is well worth the read. Kitty has no experience with the Others, but when she finds out her father was one, and she has the chance to meet her father, she takes it. But her father's ex wife and children aren't happy about the situation.
Max is the second in command of the pride, and when Kitty walks into his life he isn't expecting the punch in the gut her presence causes.
The sparks and tension are there from the first chapter, and not all of them come from the h/h team. At every turn it seems that someone is out for Kitty, and although it's obvious who is behind the attacks, it still works as a plot line.
Seriously ! the third book of this series i read and gets 5 stars !!! absolutely amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing !
Marcus is the definition of the word "gentleman" >>> he is just so so so caring and at the same time he is an Alpha male and that combination is the best.Ever
Now Kitty is such an amazing heroine and a strong one which i liked the only thing i regret is her not having mourned her father's death probably and that she didn't get the time to get to know him better because he sounds so loving and caring, and i think he would've been a great father to her just as he was to Max.
I absolutely hated Martin's ex-wife and his kids ... they're just disgusting !!!!
All in all amaaazing novel that deserves a 5 stars review :)
Kitty (I cringe at the name because of the context) is a were-lion who finds herself in Vegas to meet the father she never knew she had. She also meets Marcus, her fathers right-hand, who teaches her how to be a were-lion. Her father, the head of the Red Rock Pride, dies from a prolonged illness, but Kitty finds love with Marcus and finally finds a place in the world. The book was well-written. Steamy love scenes and some interesting sub-plot. This also introduced me to the Others series, which I am now reading.
Kitty Sugarman didn’t know that she was a Shifter until her mother & her were in a car accident & she turned into a lioness in order to escape the vehicle & drag her mother free too. Then she found out that her biological father didn’t die in a car accident like she was told but actually lived in Las Vegas & she decided to go see him to learn about her new ability.
Max Stuart is Martin Lowe’s right hand man & was waiting at the airport for Kitty’s plane to arrive as unbeknownst to Kitty her biological father was dying. When Max finally saw Kitty it was in her human form but her lioness one as someone had just come into the ladies room & attempt to knock her head in & kill her. But, Max was instantly attracted to her & that is how they met.
This story was very good; had lots of attempts on Kitty’s life & at the end of the book you find out who & why. That’s all that I’m writing as you should read the book for yourself as I said above it was a very good book.
"you seem to be doing pretty well with it." "good to know i've got you fooled. i'm holding my sanity together with duct tape and a prayer."
"that man was moonshine, and kitty knew well enough that a smart girl stayed away from moonshine if she meant to keep her wits about her and her panties on."
"you jackass. how on earth do you manage to fit that ego through the lobby doors?" "we measured ahead of time, of course. i've got a quarter inch to spare."
"misty is a grass watcher. she's always looking over the next fence to see if it looks a little greener. the trouble is, she doesn't seem to realize that in the end, grass is just grass. to make it green, you have to water it. but that's way too much work for her. she'd rather take over someone else's lawn, and move on again when it starts to go brown on her."
"you can take your dictatorial tendencies, drop trou, and shove them all the way-"
I loved this one. I was worried because the main cast of characters that had been present in the series wasn't in this one but I really shouldn't have been concerned. Christine warren van make u fall in love with just about any character and it totally didn't hurt that Kitty was a southern girl like me. Max was a bit heavy handed and demanding but he did it because he was worries about her safety which I can kinda understand. I can't wait to read the next one and I'll never doubt the series again.
This christine warren book takes you from the hills of Tennessee, where kitty sugarman shifted into a Leo! She made a short trip to las Vegas to find out how to better control her power. In a matter of days she had met the father she never knew L in love with a man she barely knew, and thought for a place in the pride. everything was worded very well in this book it was not too complicated to understand or read. So take a trip with kitty Sugarman and walk on the wild side!
I'm not a huge fan of fated mates but this book works for me. Part of that is that the term "fated" mates is not used but it amounts to something similar. The story isn't about how there is no choice in who you love or how a relationship works out. There are emotional connections that are made, not just physical attraction (tough that is there too). Plus some action at the end.
It's been awhile since I've read a book in this genre, and I forgot how much I enjoy them! I love that it's part of a series, but that they don't have to be read in order. This book had characters that I really loved, and ones that I truly hated (like I was supposed to). Overall a really enjoyable, easy read!
Enjoyed the book, although I did have trouble with the main characters falling in love after just a couple of days, and with the abruptness of the pregnancy and subsequent visit to Kitty's grandfather.
