Investigator Kendra Michaels—formerly blind and now with uniquely insightful observational skills in the tradition of Sherlock Holmes—returns in this action-packed novel from the #1 New York Times and Edgar Award-winning writing duo Iris Johansen and Roy Johansen.
When Kendra Michaels receives a cryptic message from her sometimes-paramour Adam Lynch, she concludes that he must be in extreme danger—the kind where he can’t trust his FBI and Justice department colleagues to rescue him. Lynch has saved Kendra’s life during past investigations so she’s immediately willing to put everything on the line for him.
With her heightened senses, honed in the dark before she regained her eyesight in a cutting-edge surgical procedure, Kendra knows she can do what the federal agents cannot. So along with private investigator Jessie Mercado, Kendra is soon following the first intriguing clue to London.
What they find there will lead to a chase with deadly stakes because Lynch is willing to risk it all to protect something he believes is bigger than himself. Something that could change life for everyone on the planet…if only they live long enough to share the truth.

I went into Wait & See expecting to love it since I grew up reading Iris Johansen, but unfortunately this one just didn’t land for me.
A big part of the issue may be that I didn’t realize this book is part of a series. Because of that, it didn’t feel like a strong standalone story. The first 59% of the book is spent searching for one character, which felt incredibly drawn out. Then another roughly 20% is focused on searching for a secondary character. It made the pacing feel slow & repetitive for most of the book.
On top of that, the dialogue didn’t feel natural. The main characters are supposed to be American, but a lot of the phrasing felt off & pulled me out of the story.
Ironically, after spending so much time dragging through the search, the final 20% of the book felt rushed. Major developments happened quickly without enough buildup or emotional payoff, which made the ending feel a bit unsatisfying.
What disappointed me most was the lack of character development & depth in the plot. It just didn’t feel like the writing style I remember from Iris Johansen’s earlier work. I understand that writing evolves over time, especially when collaborating with another author, but this felt like something was missing.
I do think readers who are already invested in the series may enjoy this more, since they likely have more context & connection to the characters. But for me, as someone coming into it without that background, it just didn’t work.
I really wanted to love this one, but it ended up being a miss for me.
I received a free advance copy from Net Galley for my honest opinion.
It’s been a while since I’ve read a book in this series so I had to get back in the swing of Kendra and her world.
When Lynch goes missing its didn’t take long for her to start investigating his disappearance. What she finds is so much more. With Jessie tagging along the pieces start to come together.
I enjoyed this installment. It was great to be back in the world of Kendra Michael’s with her observations skills she see’s things no one else does.
There are enemy’s all around. It’s hard to tell who to trust.
A cryptic message starts the search for her missing lover
Kendra Michaels has a remarkable ability to use her senses to read a person or a scene and deduce facts to a remarkable degree of certainty, and because of it she is regularly in demand by members of law enforcement. It is neither her job nor her calling, but she gets pulled into investigations regardless. This time the search is all too close to home...Adam Lynch, a high-level operative for hire and someone with whom she has an on again, off again romantic relationship, has disappeared in the middle of an extremely sensitive and secretive assignment. The DOJ wants him found and think that Kendra might know where he is, but she too is in the dark, with only a strange message sent to Kendra's best friend as a clue. Is Lynch alive and being held hostage, in hiding, or dead? Kendra springs into action to pick up his trail with her ally PI Jessie Mercado at her side. The people Lynch was working against are extremely dangerous, and clearly have Kendra in their sights as the two women travel to the UK to begin their search. Whatever Lynch was involved in, it is clear that it is a major deal to many parties....can Kendra find out what happened to Lynch, and if he's alive help him safeguard the high value item for which he has risked his life? Wait and See is the twelfth installment in authors Iris and Roy Johansen's series featuring music therapist and keen observer Kendra Michaels. Readers of the series are familiar with the relationship between Kendra and Lynch which forms the foundation for this story, while those new to the series may need to do some catching up on their bond. Kendra is clearly thrown by the situation and it calls into question her feelings for Lynch and what exactly their relationship is (and what perhaps it could be), but she doesn't have the luxury of time to dwell on it as she tries to interpret the clues Lynch has seemingly left behind for her to find. Throw in some AI and robotics as well as an evil crime boss who is deeply involved in whatever is going on and you have an entertaining international suspense tale with plenty of twists along the way. The pacing of the narrative was a little uneven in spots, and Kendra's trademark Holmesian deductions only surfaced a couple of times; I'd rate it a 3.5 ⭐️ read rounded up to 4. Overall I think it is a story likely to appeal to fans of the series but will prove to be a harder slog for those new to it . It would also appeal to readers of Catherine Coulter, Linda Howard and Kay Hooper, but I would advise them to start with at least a couple of the earlier books first if possible to maximize their understanding and enjoyment of the characters. My thanks to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for allowing me access to the book in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for this advance ARC in return for an honest review.
Wait and See is the 12th installment in he Kendra Michaels "mystery and thriller" series. I am thankful that I havent read any of the previous books as this story was about as mysterious and thrilling as an episode of the Real Housewives.
Kendra is described as having been born blind, regaining her vision at age 20 due to some fanatical surgery, and as a result acquiring this amazing ability to see what others can't and to have the deductive skills of Sherlock Holmes. With the exception of a "parlor trick" early in the story with an FBI agent, there was nothing special about her deductive skills or observations. If anything Kendra Michaels comes across as nothing more than a whiny B*tch.
Having not read the first 11 books ( thank god ) I was unaware of Lynch, introduced in the prologue, nor his history with Kendra nor his supposed amazing skills. Kendra becomes worried after her friend and neighbor receives a cryptic email from Lynch, that sets her off on a wild goose chase to find and/or save Lynch. With the help of her well connected Bodyguard/yoga instructor, Jessie, they set out to track down Lynch in London. The first half of this book is taken up with this quest.
Once found, the inane dialogue begins between Kendra and Lynch commences. Rather than mystery or suspense Johansen spends dozens of pages on the bickering between these two on again off again lovers. One would think Kendra would be happy, instead they spend all their energy with a lover's quarrel.
Meanwhile we discover that Lynch's secret mission involves protecting a teenage wunderkind, Stevie, who has apparently single handedly created an amazing AI robot named Archie. As Kendra found a hairbrush belonging to Stevie amongst Lynch's belongings in his "safe house" this gets her all bent out of shape before she realizes there is nothing going on between Lynch and his charge.
As if this isn't bad enough ( and it is ) there is a comic book Villain, Vlad Korkill, who has been trying to kidnap Stevie, and Archie, to use the robot for his own nefarious means. The culmination of his plotting is an attempt to turn Archie into a bomb and blow up Wembley Stadium
Apparently Kendra and Lynch have stopped arguing long enough to try and foil his plot.
I am not sure how this author is a New York Times bestseller, as this book contains some of the most inane dialogue I have ever read, and the action could be boiled down to a few pages in between the whiny and frankly useless Kendra passages.
Would NOT recommend this to anyone. If you are at the beach and need something to do, look at the clouds and pick out those that resemble animals or count the grains of sand. Anything but this.
Review copy was received from Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I really have loved this Kendra Michaels series . So many of my thought are similar to what I have said previusly but I'll recap a bit since Wait and See is book 12. I enjoy seeing Kendra use her talents to help her get clues and deal with people. She often helps the FBI on their cases, reluctantly. There's action, mystery, intelligent casework and a nice group of family and friends. She seemed to do more of her work and be the driver of the case more in earlier books.
Adam Lynch is often involved with Kendra. I have wanted them to get together but Kendra always has some reason to put him off. The longer this continued, the more I have tired of it. A person feels what they feel and telling yourself you don't or won't feel is stupid. Now choosing your actions, no matter what you feel is quite normal. But lying to yourself and others about how you feel seems immature. In Wait and See, they seem to admit they are together in their way.
Kendra seems to think she knows better, and should not only make her own decisions, but others should do things her way. She is very smart but in this adventure Adam and Jesse have more experience and local resources. But she gets angry when they decides to protect her. Her temper and childish treatment of those close to her, that she relies on, is not cool.
The adventure they go on is worthwhile and has important consequences. The action, mysteries and strategies are fun. What is not fun is the dialogue between all of them, it is stilted. The way of speaking seemed realistic for their new friend, Stevie, but for Kendra with Adam and Jesse, it was tedious.
As the series goes on, Kendra seems to be less crucial to the cases, with Adam and Jesse doing most of the work. Kendra and her allies work to solve the mystery and catch the really bad guys. Unfortunately, I don't enjoy any of Kendra's personal (or professional) relationships any more, even with Olivia, because of her attitudes.
Wait and See by Iris Johansen and Roy Johansen is an entertaining thriller by masters of the genre. Adam Lynch is an operator. One of the best. Right now Kendra didn’t know where he was or what he was doing. He was her partner, in several ways, but sometimes she wasn’t so sure. Communication was not his strong point. Kendra is an interesting character: blind from birth, she was only able to see after an operation when she was twenty. Now she was an operator as well, except when she teaching music to little kids. He early blindness had taught her to use her hightened senses and well as he ability to see things others missed. She was a music therapist. Her best friend is Olivia who is still blind and, curiously, an internet influencer. They kind of shared a very undisciplined dog. The only one who could control him was Lynch. When she got to Olivia’s there was an email from Lynch with the oddest message. And sent to Olivia? Knowing Lynch as well as she did she interpreted it and left for his house. He was currently fostering two seals. Odd? Yes! She followed up as best she could and found what he had left for her. A clue as to his whereabouts? As she was driving home, she heard the roar of a motorcycle: Jessie. Jessie is a high-end security person, owning a company that catered to stars and more. If Kendra thought she was going to England to follow this clue, Jessie would be going, too.
Sometimes the thriller part of a thriller is not really knowing who the good guys are. One has to trust their gut and not people’s ID. It was a merry chase but Kendra hung in and eventually ran into Lynch, who was into a much bigger case than Kendra had anticipated. This are terrific characters. The plot was definitely thrilling and the characters are entertaining. As always, anymore, there is an AI involved, although this one is next level. This is a very beguiling book. I recommend it.
I was invited to read Wait and See by Grand Central Publishing. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #GradnCentralPublishing #IrisJohansen #RoyJohansen #WaitAndSee
5/5 stars: This is the Johansen's twelfth entry in the Kendra Michaels series which is a Mystery Thriller set in California. Featuring a formerly blind woman (she regained her eyesight in a cutting-edge surgical procedure), who works as a music therapist, as she uses her uniquely insightful observational skills in the tradition of Sherlock Holmes to rescue her sometimes-paramour, a brilliant government agent-for-hire. Pooling all her resources, including an FBI agent, a private investigator/bodyguard and her blind best friend, she'll follow the cryptic messages left behind to London. What they find there will lead to a chase with deadly stakes because the missing agent's willing to risk it all to protect something he believes is bigger than himself. Something that could change life for everyone on the planet… if only they live long enough to share the truth.
With plenty of twists and turns, the Johansen's write a gripping fast-paced investigative tale that will leave you on the edge of your seat until the final reveal. I really like how the Johansen's plot unfolded and the deft way they wove everything together. Written in multiple POV, the Johansen's writing and character work are stellar; the characters are well-rounded and complex while remaining incredibly likable with a great secondary cast that's well crafted and uniquely voiced. Includes a steamy OPS scene.
The Johansen's touch on some serious subjects; so take care and check the CWs. While you could read this as a stand-alone, you'll gain so much more by reading the series from the beginning; so be sure to pick up book one, Close Your Eyes. This is a favorite series; Highly recommend!
I received this eARC thanks to Grand Central Publishing in exchange for an honest review. Publishing dates are subject to change.
I received this book courtesy of NetGalley for the purpose of a fair and honest review.
Overview: Kendra Michaels is just working on some paperwork, when she gets a weird message through her friend. Lynch doesn't really have any livestock or animals that would need veterinarian work, so why did he send Kendra to his home? And who is Stevie? Now people are dying around Kendra with most of them having some connection to Lynch's case. is Lynch alive? Does Jessie have a way to help Kendra? Let's find out.
Dislikes: Kendra is supposed to be the hero that we're following in this book. However, she didn't work for me. Okay, so she gained her sight at twenty. How does that give her the ability to accurately read lips? Or near super-human attention to detail? The idea that just because someone spent her life--up until twenty--blind, doesn't make it so that she'll now focus totally on the details. It doesn't ring true, and that made the book hard to read.
Archie is quite unnerving. And, sorry Stevie, once the genie is out of the bottle you cannot prevent the miss-use of the technology.
Likes: Jessie was neat. She might only be a private investigator/bodyguard. But she has skills and people that and get just about anything done.
Metcalf is a good friend to Lynch and Kendra. He just has a hard choice to make in this book.
Conclusion: This book didn't work for me. Such is the case when the protagonist doesn't click with you. If you are a fan of Kendra Michaels, or just like reading suspense novels lead by extraordinary women, then this book is for you. Enjoy the read.
Thank you to Hachette Audio, #partner for the ALC of Wait and See in exchange for my honest review.
This is the 12th book in the Kendra Michael’s series, a series that Iris Johansen co-writes with her son, Roy. I’m a huge fan of just about everything Iris writes and have really loved this series — Kendra proves to be one of the most fascinating characters I have ever met! This was somewhat of a mixed bag for me. I loved being back with Kendra, of course, and I understood her need to go find Lynch. And I loved that Jessie Mercado tags along to help. My issue was that once they do find Lynch and what he was up to…I didn’t love that part (and to say exactly what might be a spoiler, so I’m not saying here). And yes, I realize this is totally a me-thing…but I’m being honest here. I still loved the action, the twists, the continued character development…I just didn’t love the case itself. Of course, that’s not going to stop me from picking up the next book in this series or any other book by this author…I love her books too much to stop reading them. And I wish I saw more people reading her books!!
Audio thoughts: As usual, I went straight to the audio with this one because Elisabeth Rodgers narrates them. She has narrated almost all of Iris Johansen’s books and gets the nuances of all her characters, bringing consistency to the series, using the same voices time and again. It’s like visiting friends…that’s how familiar these voices are to me now.
Thank you to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for the ARC of Wait and See in exchange for an honest review.
This was such a fast-paced and entertaining thriller that kept me hooked from the very first chapter. Iris and Roy Johansen know how to deliver nonstop action and suspense, and this story balanced high-stakes danger with clever investigative twists in a way that made it incredibly easy to binge.
Kendra Michaels continues to be such a compelling lead character. Her observational skills and instincts make her stand out from so many other thriller protagonists, and I loved watching her piece together clues while navigating the growing danger around her. The story moved quickly without feeling rushed, and the international chase element added even more excitement and momentum to the plot.
What I enjoyed most was the combination of suspense, mystery, and emotional stakes. The tension stayed high throughout, and there was always this underlying sense that something bigger was unfolding beneath the surface. A few moments leaned slightly over-the-top, but honestly, that added to the fun of the ride for me.
Overall, this was an addictive, action-packed thriller with strong characters, sharp pacing, and plenty of twists to keep the pages turning. Definitely a great pick for readers who love suspense novels with nonstop momentum and larger-than-life stakes.
I received an ARC copy from Netgalley and Grand Central Publishing. This is the 12th in the Kendra Michaels series and I had just finished book 11 when I was sent this book to read and review.
I was a little disappointed in this book versus all of the others I have read in the series, but that being said the Kendra Michaels series is a good one to read.
For me, the storyline did not flow as well as others in the series and there were parts of it that just seemed strange to me. Without giving away the storyline too much, Lynch is AWOL and Kendra wants to find him. She is helped by Jessie and off they go in search of him based on clues he left. The hard part for me was to understand the clues as they seemed really weird.
The plot line of why Lynch is AWOL does become clear and the story picks back up and seems more plausible to me.
All in all, I loved the series and am appreciative to be able to read an ARC copy by authors I enjoy reading. You definitely have to read the series in order as the series has recurring characters and you learn more back story on them with each adventure.
What a fantastic new addition to the Kendra Michaels series from Iris and Roy Johansen!
When Lynch goes missing, Kendra does what she does best — she follows every lead in search of the one man who managed to break through her hard-won independence. Along for the ride is private investigator and former military operative Jessie Mercado, and together they’re unstoppable.
This installment feels different from previous Kendra Michaels books with the introduction of an AI robot named Archie — and I completely fell in love with him! His creator, Stevie Nolan, is a brilliant and determined young woman searching for her kidnapped father. The villain, Vlad Korkil, a drug runner and sex trafficker, wants to use Archie for his own sinister purposes, raising the stakes even higher.
The Johansens truly know how to deliver twist after twist. Having one of my all-time favorite male characters, Lynch, missing — and possibly dead — kept me glued to the pages until the very end.
I can’t get enough of Kendra Michaels and her incredible world!
Thank you to Iris & Roy Johansen and Grand Central Publishing for the ARC!
Wait and See by Iris and Roy Johansen is the 12th book in the Kendra Michaels series. Kendra has quite a story to tell as she is the one on the search for where and the heck is Adam Lynch, her often times significant other. After a vague message is left with her friend Olivia, Kendra seeks to find answers to why the message, let alone where Adam is. She’s soon off to London but not before being joined by her good friend Jesse Mercado, who always adds some fun and assistance to any Kendra Michaels story. While they are searching for him, Lynch has his hands full protecting a very important young person for all to learn about later in the story. I love the characters the Johansens bring to their stories. Kendra is a very special one particularly her unique skills as clearly explained throughout the series. Kendra, Adam, Olivia, and Jesse are all strong characters who do all they can to do right for those who need their assistance. Wait and See gives you the thrills, chills, and danger of a good Kendra story with some twisty moments on a subject of concern across the world we live in. Highly recommended reading enjoyment!
The action starts out quickly when Kendra learns that Lynch is missing. When she finds a clue at his house, she sets off to find him and figure out what he has gotten himself into. Jessie shows up and goes with Kendra which turns out to be handy as Jessie has friends who help in their search for Lynch. Each uses their skills to look for clues as to whether Lynch is alive or dead while trying to stay away from the bad guys. Finding Lynch leads to an AI robot named Archie and and gifted young lady named Stevie. Stevie has done such a good job with Archie that an evil man is after her and Archie. The man has kidnapped her father in hopes of flushing her out in the open. The danger, suspense and action kick into high gear and it is only at the very end that all works out as you hope. The pacing seems a little off to me as it is quite late in the story before they find Lynch and the ending seems a smidge rushed. It is still a good story and interesting to read. It definitely makes you wonder about AI.
Wait and See is the 12th book in the Kendra Michaels series from the mother/son writing team of Iris and Roy Johansen.
"Kendra's sometime love-interest sends a cryptic message. Kendra realizes he's in trouble. His message points to London so she heads there with Jessie Mercado, a friend and private investigator/bodyguard. They have no idea of the danger and high stakes they're headed into."
I have been a longtime fan of this series. Kendra Michaels is a great character and the narrative is usually fast-paced and fun to read. This book felt off - almost like someone else wrote it. There's a lot more dialogue than previous books - more talking and less doing. There are abrupt plot points with little explanation. The special skills that Kendra has seem more like a party trick here instead of something that helps solve a puzzle (There are a couple of times it pops up but not like in previous books) This book just seems to be missing the energy we've come to expect from this series. Hopefully it's just a one-off.
Kendra Michaels is back, and she's ready to get to the bottom of the mystery surrounding her love interest, Adam Lynch, a super intelligence agent who has gone missing. She's got her "spidey senses" on high alert as she delves into the case, determined to find out what happened. Kendra is going to use everything in her bag, as well as her past life, to work out what happened to Lynch and, more importantly, where he is before the bad guys or the good guys can find him. The line between good and bad is blurred so badly- she'll have to decide who to trust and what she can do. The Johansens are absolutely amazing! They'll keep you on your toes with the latest, and you'll be rushing through every page to get to the end. But the real question is: where is Lynch?
Thank you to Grand Central Publishing for allowing me the opportunity to review this arc in NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is the 12th book in the series but the first one I've read - looks like I have some catching up to do. It's obvious from the start that there is a close, albeit complicated, relationship between Kendra and Adam. He's away on assignment but manages to send a cryptic message to Kendra via her friend Olivia. This leads to Kendra trying to decipher what the message means.
The story is filled with action, danger, a human-like robot (with AI), and betrayal. When Kendra leaves to go to London, she is joined (surprisingly) by her friend, Jessie Mercado, who also happens to be a private investigator. It turns out a good thing that Jessie came along as her connections prove helpful on more than one occasion.
I was intrigued by the relationship between Kendra and Adam, and it appears that it has grown over the series. This was a quick read with all of the pieces of the puzzle and the action throughout.
– I was excited to see this ARC and couldn’t wait to start to read it. I really enjoy entering Kendra Michael’s life. What Kendra notices and picks up on that the average person wouldn’t notice is fascinating. I’ve always been a fan of Iris Johansen and continue to be one. Johansen has written an exciting storyline, well-developed characters, and plenty of action. In this installment, Kendra has been told that Lynch is missing and could be in danger. Kendra decides to investigate his disappearance. Olivia, Kendra’s best friend, calls Jessie to help Kendra to keep her out of trouble. Kendra and Jessie start off traveling to London and then Scotland following the clues that Lynch has left behind. I highly recommend this book and series by Johnansen. Thank you to Netgalley and Grand Central Publishing for an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review.
I don't know if it's just me, but the writing style seems to have changed recently. I've always loved both the Kendra Michaels and Eve Duncan series, but they feel much different from the stories that originally drew me in.
One of the things I loved most about Kendra was her unique observational abilities, but in this book those talents seemed largely pushed to the background. She rarely makes the kinds of insightful observations that made her stand out, and instead comes across as more of a traditional investigator.
As a longtime fan of this series, that was disappointing. The elements that made Kendra such a compelling character seem to be fading, and I found myself missing the dynamic that made these books so enjoyable in the first place.
Thank you to Net Galley and Grand Central Publishing for giving me this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Kendra’s sometimes-lover, Adam Lynch, is missing and she’s finding clues that might lead to his whereabouts. Although she’s intelligent, capable, and able to take care of herself, she’s a little out of her league with an international search effort. She relies on her friend, Jessie, and an interesting group of Jessie’s acquaintances, to assist her on this quest. She’s concerned that they might not find Lynch alive. Kendra and Jessie are on the run from a ruthless drug lord/human trafficker who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. When she uncovers what Lynch’s latest assignment was, she’s left in awe and makes the decision to join in on the unfinished mission.
An edge-of-your-seat thriller that starts off with suspense right at the beginning and never lets go!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
In the next book in the Kendra Michaels series, WAIT AND SEE by Iris and Ray Johansen, Kendra Michaels is an investigator who wants to find Adam Lynch. Lynch is an intelligence agent, who is on assignment somewhere in Denmark. After reading a message from Lynch, Kendra wants to know what’s up. So do I. I wonder if Kendra will help find Lynch.
Kendra is the protagonist. She is a unique character. I am interested in her relationship with other characters, especially Olivia, Jessie and Lynch. I wish the chapters were shorter. The plot is probably better than I appreciate since I don’t think this book is meant for me. Thank you, Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley, for the chance to read and review an advance reader copy of WAIT AND SEE.
Let me start by sharing I have read every Iris Johansen/Roy Johansen book and the Kendra Michaels series are one of my favorites. However, this book was a big no for me. It was about 50% of Kendra searching for a character and then Archie came into the story. By that point I was having a hard time staying engaged and this made it even worse. As a long time reader of both Johansens, it seems like the writing style of these authors changed with this book-the dialogue was off and it just dragged on. Rating: 2 stars Thanks to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for the ARC. All opinions are my own. Expected publication date: 23 Jun 2026
Kendra and Lynch are at it again or are they? When Olivia gets and email to pass on to Kendra, it sends Kendra into maybe the most extreme puzzle of her life.
Where is Lynch? Is he OK? Those are two of the major questions she must answer in this book. But in order to answer these questions she is going to need the help of some friends and she is going to have to constantly look over her shoulder.
Follow Kendra as she chases the clues around the world in the book.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I have been reading Iris Johansen for years and I am a big fan of the Eve Duncan series. I didn't think that this quite lived up to that series for me. I will admit this is the first that I have read in this specific series. I wasn't the biggest fan of Kendra. I also struggled a little with the pacing. It started off pretty strong but seemed to start to lag the further I got into the story. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Lynch is missing and Kendra and Jessie are trying to find them. They don’t know who to trust or even if Lynch is still alive. The suspense is gradual and there are plenty of bad guys with an agenda. It wasn’t one of my favorite books in this series but it was still interesting enough to keep me reading. Altho the book is part of a series it could be read as a stand alone. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
Although the plot was somewhat interesting, the dialogue is so bad. No one talks like that and the interactions are so dry and impersonal even between people who are supposedly close. It made the whole thing drag. I've read lots by the author and don't recall ever having it be so bad.
Full disclosure - I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review
This is a story about a robot, and it is much more about Lynch than it is about Kendra. There is lots of action and suspense as they try to thwart the evil villain. Lynch definitely takes the lead with Kendra providing support when an advanced AI robot gets stolen by a power-hungry villain. This one will keep you turning the pages.
I have read all of Iris Johansen's books, including all of the Kendra Michaels series, and for some reason the writing in this one seemed more amateurish to me. The story line was good, but the dialogue felt off. Other than that, it was a strong next book in the series, and good to see her relationship with Adam Lynch developing.
Kendra and Lynch are back with another great book. Jessie also joins them. Kendra and Jessie are in search of Lynch who has disappeared. There is a lot of danger for Kendra. There are plenty of twists and turns. The books is a roller coaster ride of suspense. The writing is awesome.
The way I squealed when I was approved for an ARC by my favorite author and about one of my favorite characters.
Kendra is off to save Adam again. Only this time, she has no idea what he has gotten himself into or where he is. She just knows that he is missing and Justice cannot find him. Using her senses, per usual, she is able to find a trail that Lynch has left for her. And she finds Lynch, because of course she does, along with a few new friends. These new friends were the reason for Lynch disappearing off the radar. These new friends have a thing someone else wants really badly.
