Dead to their pasts. Ghosts. No family ties. No connections.
Six men with a top-secret mission move to a small town where they have to navigate local life, protect their secret, and, above all, stay single.
Software engineer Caroline Crowell is a dead woman walking. When the top-secret lab she’s working in goes up in flames and she barely makes it out alive, she knows her time is up. If she wants to stay alive and protect the only family she has left, she has to disappear.
But first she needs help. Someone to watch her back and make sure her enemy doesn’t get any closer while she plans her escape.
Seth “Phantom” King trusts no one but his team. He knows what people are capable of, and he knows how far a person can be pushed before they break. And what he sees when Callie shows up at One Shot Tactical looking for help is a woman about to reach the point of no return.
He doesn’t want to be drawn in by her fear, doesn’t want to believe she’s anything but a potential suspect in his mission. But his teammates have proven that you can’t stop feeling something for a woman even when you know you aren’t supposed to. Denying it only makes it worse.
When the danger Callie fears comes to town, Seth has a choice. Fight for the future he needs. For the woman he needs.
Or watch everything go up in smoke.
A Small Town, Enemies to Lovers, Military Protector Romance from Lynn Raye Harris.
Lynn Raye Harris is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of sizzling military romantic suspense novels and contemporary romance novels. She lives in Alabama with her husband (former military), her cat, and her American Saddlebred horse.
Another fantastic book in the Ghost Ops series! I’m loving watching each of these seasoned special operators fall in love while on a secret mission to protect a top secret project.
Seth has been Mr Grumpy in the two previous books and at the beginning of this book he’s not too thrilled with being ordered to move in with Callie and her teenage sister for protection. Seth was certain Callie should be their top suspect based on her heritage, fluency in Polish and Russian languages, and her time working in Poland. He quickly starts to change his mind after spending time with her 24/7 and discovering her sweet heart, how protective of her tees she sister she is, and her pride in her immigrant mother’s love for her new country.
Callie and Seth quickly get to know a lot about each other. He starts to open up and actually talks and banters with her and her sister, Nikki. Mr Grumpy disappears and Callie finds herself up close and personal with an irresistibly, sexy man.
I love how we get to know these two main characters and then the suspense and drama starts to ratchet up until things are pretty intense. The development of the character and their relationship happens as Callie and Seth spend 24/7 together. I loved how he started to open up and share some really personal history.
The bond and friendship with the entire Ghost Ops team is entertaining and their women fit right in. The ladies welcome Callie to their sisterhood, and Ghost is beside himself with the rate his men are falling in love.
This is an entertaining and exciting book!
I received a free ARC from the author; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.
Callie, she's had a hard year, losing her parents and moving from her hometown and starting anew has not been easy on her or her younger sister but they did it.
She's strong and intelligent, and a really good programmer. She works at Griffin Research Facility, and her project is top secret. And now she's being threatened and it's either get help or disappear.
Seth, he is one of six well trained operatives, he and his friends are ghosts, with one mission. Protect their country, to do this they are in disguise as former military operatives starting over as civilians.
This hero had a terrible childhood, he lost his mum at a young age, and then stayed with grandparents who despised him instead of loving him. He has secrets that are heartbreaking, and the hurt he went through made me angry for him.
His loyal to his team, and his country. He is also grumpy and no nonsense so he never, and I mean never saw Callie coming.
I absolutely loved this book, the slow burn, instant connection, chemistry, spice when it hits and the easy going banter between the leads was great.
Loved how everything came together, but there is an interconnected storyline and I honestly can't wait to see how everything plays out in the upcoming books.
𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬
Nikki...loved her character, she was strong just like her sister.
Kane & Daphne! Yes, I can't wait for this couple's book it's going to be so good.
Ethan 🩵
Alex...well a certain FBI agent is certainly going to be this guy's woman.
Lynn Raye Harris delivers another thrilling, emotionally intense installment in the Ghost Ops series with "Seth", a gripping blend of action, suspense, and undeniable chemistry. Fans of military protector romances will be hooked from the start as Seth "Phantom" King—a hardened, trust-no-one operative—meets his match in Caroline "Callie" Crowell, a woman who needs his protection.
From the moment Callie steps into One Shot Tactical, the tension crackles. She’s desperate, and determined to survive, while Seth, ever wary, sees her as a potential threat. But as danger closes in, their reluctant alliance turns into something far deeper. The "enemies to lovers" dynamic is executed perfectly, with Seth fighting his instincts even as Callie proves she’s stronger and more resilient than he expected. Their slow-burn romance is full of heated moments, sharp banter, and undeniable attraction, making their eventual surrender to love all the more satisfying.
Harris excels at balancing heart-pounding action with emotional depth. The Ghost Ops team remains a compelling force, adding layers of brotherhood and loyalty to the story.
For readers who love alpha heroes, strong heroines, and explosive romance wrapped in danger, "Seth" delivers. With a perfect mix of suspense, passion, and heart, this book cements Harris as a master of the military romantic suspense genre. Highly recommended!
Poor, poor, poor emotionally unavailable Seth. He did not even begin to see Callie and Nikki coming. 🤣🤣🤣
Can I just say… watching an emotionally unavailable, clueless, stoic grump go soft for a woman is probably one of my favorite tropes. Seth wasn’t a playboy, didn’t flaunt the relationships he had with women, didn’t even seem to have THAT many of them. He didn’t do chitchat, or even talk much, even with people he cared about. He was happy for his teammates and cared for their women, but definitely didn’t understand why they chose that route 🤣
And watching him just melt under Callie’s care was amazing. And I loved Callie. God, childhood trauma hits us all different, doesn’t it. Sure, Callie is attractive now as an adult, but we all know the nerdy, awkward teen she was and she still carries the scars from that. Middle school and High School shape us so much more than we realize but they the most miserable times in everybody’s life. Ironic.
Nikki was freaking hilarious and I loved her. She was smart and capable and had absolutely no qualms putting Seth in his place about her big sister and I ADORE her.
I also really like that we’re starting to see so much more of their mission! It’s so cool to see how well the author plots it out over the series.
This is definitely my favorite book of this series thus far. 💖💖💖
Seth is the third book in the Ghost Ops series and they just keep getting better. Seth is the grumpy one in the group that holds his emotions close to his vest. When Callie almost dies in a fire at work she comes to One Shot Tactical to seek help. She had met them briefly when they were doing a security update at Griffin Labs. Seth was the one she hoped not to work with. Seth was tasked with setting up security and protection to Callie. They fell for each other in the while danger lurked. One more Ghost Operative falls and they chip away at the danger to the project they have been tasked to keep safe. You will love these two together, add in Callie’s sister Nikki and the cast from the previous books and the story will come alive.
Callie is a programmer and working on a top secret project for the government, when she almost dies when a fire breaks out in the facility close to where she’s working. Trying to come up with a plan, she sees an advert for One Shot Tactical about security. She decides to approach them for help as she remembers them being at her workplace a few weeks prior and making it more secure.
Seth is a hacker but also a bit of a mystery as he’s usually quiet and serious. When Callie comes asking for Kane, Seth is the only person available to help. We uncover more about Callie and Seth’s pasts which gave me the feels. A few standout moments which gave me goosebumps and made me teary but I absolutely loved it. Also a glimpse into Alex/Ghost’s past which was intriguing and some more Kane and Daphne “tension”🥹 Oh and Callie’s sister is a hoot🤣
Soooo excited for Kane’s books next🤩 I received an advanced copy and willingly leave my honest review🙌
No matter how much time has passed, Lynn just draws you right back into the ghost ops crew. Our broody little grump, Seth was quite a fun man to read. And our nerdy little Callie, who we’ve met before, was the perfect girl for Seth.
One thing I love about this series is how each book continues the plot and keeps you hanging on for more. I have to say, Alex was quite funny in this book. Poor man is going through it with his team finding love 😂 I seriously cannot wait for his book!
Speaking of, Kane and Daphne are next! And now we know Ethan is after them with Alex concluding the series (so close yet so far for his book with Agent Corbin (that’s my guess anyway)!)
This series and this book keep you on the edge of your seat. Callie is being threatened for top secret information by Russians if she doesn't turn over what she knows. There's plenty of danger, suspense and some heat, but it doesn't impede the story line. Seth is assigned to protect her and her sister, but he has hang ups from his time in the military. HEA.
Lynn's "Ghost Ops 3: Seth" captures a balance of suspense with romance. Lynn draws you into their stories with characters that are relatable, authentic. With Seth you’ve got the stoic protector with a guarded heart meeting Callie who breaks down those walls. I’m sure you’ll love Seth and Callie as much as I did!
The Ghost OP Series gets better and better. Seth finally meets someone that puts his grumpy self in place and finally he finds his way. Alex/Ghost none the wiser gets a few surprises and is hilarious when another one bits the dust. A kid, horses, a dog a bunch of bad guys and a project that needs to be kept safe round up Seth‘s book making it an absolute incredible read.
Seth is book 3 in the Ghost Ops series. We are halfway through the series already and it just keeps getting better and more mysterious.
Callie is a young woman in a male dominated profession. As such, she does not receive respect from her fellow male co-workers. She is good at what she does, but she has to hide her capabilities.
Seth is a private man, but most consider him a grump. He is quiet and observant, but does not offer up much unless asked to.
When an incident happens at the lab where Callie works, she turns to One Shot Tactical for help. After asking for Kane, the nice one in her mind, Seth, the grumpy one, is the person who comes to talk to her. Just what she wanted.
When she tells Seth her story, he immediately gathers the guys and asks them to join him with Callie. They need to hear what she has to say. So they all make their way to the conference room.
Once all of the guys have heard Callie's story, and she has answered their questions, they all agree she needs their assistance. Seth is assigned to be her "protector". Lucky for Callie. The one person she did not want, is the one person she gets.
Callie has a younger sister who she is guardian for. She does not want Nikki to know what might really be going on, so she comes up with a story to tell her about why Seth is staying with them for a few days. But Nikki is not that naive. There is definitely chemistry between Callie and Seth, even if they have not realized it yet.
Weird things happen around the house, but it is not related to why Seth is there. It is more related to his history. Over time, and I mean a few days, he opens up to Callie and tells her things he has not even told his teammates, his brothers. He is shocked that he is so easy to talk to and so understanding of his history. Because he still does not like the decisions he made, even though he had no choice.
Callie and Seth are falling for each other until she feels betrayed. When the team finally tells her what she has really been working on and what they are really doing in Sutton's Creek, she is devastated. She thought she and Seth were starting something and now she feels like he was just using her to get information.
Seth is heartbroken, although he will not admit it, that Cal lie is thinks so little of him that he would fake what she does to him.
When pieces start falling together in the puzzle, a familiar character will return to the scene. Oh and so many secrets will be revealed. People will be identified. But will it be soon enough?
I loved seeing a female in the male dominated world of computer programming. As a fellow geek, I feel for her need to hide her abilities. Men, especially older men, can feel threatened by a woman, especially a younger woman, having more knowledge and ability to perform a job. And it is even worse if the woman is their manager.
In addition, the personal secrets that are revealed will bond this team of men even more than they are now.
Finally, I love Nikki. I think she needs a book. Maybe not in this series, but she needs one. She is hilarious.
I am still trying to figure out what will happen in the next book and what the end result will be in this series. I have so many questions that I need answers to but I will have to wait for more puzzle pieces to be put in to place in the next book.
Seth by Lynn Raye Harris, book three in the Ghost Ops series, is a small town, military protector romance that is the perfect mixture of romance, action, and suspense; keeping me on the edge of my seat. Seth "Phantom" King, a hardened, trust-no-one operative, meets his match in Caroline "Callie" Crowell, a woman who needs his protection.
Callie, a programmer, fluent in Polish and Russian, works on a top secret project for the government. After almost dying when a fire breaks out in the facility where she works she decides she needs help. Seeing an advertisement for One Shot Tactical about security and remembering them being at her workplace a few weeks prior and making it more secure she decides to go to them for help. Seth, a hacker for special ops, is a bit of a mystery, quiet, serious and observant. When Callie comes asking for Kane, Seth is the only person available to help.
Seth is not thrilled with being ordered to move in with Callie and her teenage sister, Nikki, for protection. Seth was certain Callie should be their top suspect based on her Polish heritage and her time working in Poland. He quickly changes his mind as they spend time together and discovering her sweet heart, how protective of Nikki she is, and her pride in her immigrant mother’s love for her new country. Seth even opens up, telling Callie about his past, and he actually talks and laughs with Nikki.
As danger closes in, their partnership turns into a far deeper relationship. The enemies-to-lovers trope is executed perfectly, with Seth fighting his instincts, even as Callie proves she’s stronger and more resilient than he expected. Their slow-burn romance is full of heated moments, sharp banter, and undeniable attraction, eventual surrender, making this an absolute incredible read.
Ms. Harris does an excellent job at weaving the high-stakes tension with the tender nurturing of a romance between Seth and Callie. This is not only a story that’s not only about love but about fighting for what truly matters. The bond and friendship with the entire Ghost Ops team is entertaining and their women fit right in; welcoming Callie to their sisterhood, as Ghost/Alex is beside himself with the rate his men are falling in love. If you love military protector romances, strong-willed heroines, and emotionally complex heroes, you won't be able to put this book down.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Callie was staring at the computer screen blurry eyed. She had checked the data before and everything looked fine, but something just wasn’t right and she stayed late to go through line by line because national security depended on the code being perfect. The project was already over budget and she was determined to figure out what was bothering her when the fire alarm went off. When the smell of smoke reached her she saved and logged out and ran for the door only to find it barred from the outside and although the alarms were sounding the sprinkler system wasn’t activating.
That’s when she knew this fire was for her. She wouldn’t play their game and this was her punishment. Her sister Nikki was going to be an orphan because she wouldn’t connect the wire Mikhail had given her that would give him access to the government satellite code.
She knew they would never stop. If she made it out of there alive she and her sister would have to disappear. She didn’t know how but she had to protect her sister.
I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. Callie was a data analyst but was really Griffin Research Labs secret weapon as she wasn’t just verifying the code for the satellite system, but was reanalyzing and writing the code.
When the lab caught on fire destroying one lab and another sustaining serious damage, the Ghost Ops team wondered if Callie had been behind it and couldn’t believe when she showed at their office asking for protection. Claiming that the fire had been intended to her. The Ghost Ops were hired by the president’s Chief of Staff to make sure that the Athena Project was protected so they needed to decide if Cassie was the perpetrator or the victim.
This book is action-packed from beginning to end. This romantic suspense is full of danger and intrigue and Seth is the last of the team she wanted as her protective detail especially when that meant moving in with her. How did she explain him to her teenage sister?
This book is full of angst, sexual chemistry and secrets. This is the first time reading Lynn Raye Harris, but won’t be the last. Although this book had its own HEA, the characters are recurring so I plan to start from the beginning to for Blaze and Chance’s stories. Highly recommend.
As the Ghost Ops series continues to develop, each of our heroes seems to be setting down roots in their small town in Alabama, leaving us with the feeling that their HOT lives truly have ended. That said they are still kickass operators and there is no doubt that they are serving their country and protecting the citizens in need around them. Seth’s story continues that as the beautiful but suspect computer programmer they have been monitoring suddenly arrives on their doorstep claiming someone is trying to kill her because she is refusing to help them get access to the top-secret project. Seth is a beautifully damaged hero that needs the right motivation to finally get over his horrific past, and it looks like Callie is just what the doctor ordered. Callie is determined to survive this latest threat, even if she has to take her sister and go on the run, but Seth is just as determined to help her and keep her around. Together they are combustible and the more time they spend together the more the passion and potency of their connection leads them both to open their minds and hearts to an unexpected future they could have together. I loved seeing them as they sparked off one another—arguing, working together, or simply finding their way through the morass of emotional pain—until they finally found a way to their peaceful and emotional balance. I am really looking forward to the rest of the series and I suspect I know what will be coming in the next book, but will enjoy it no matter what as the series continues to its inevitable conclusion once all the guys have their stories. Ms. Harris certainly found her footing with this latest spin-off and didn’t let readers down when she decided to send Ghost off with his group of men on a mission like no other.
Let’s talk about Seth by Lynn Raye Harris. This one hit all the right notes for me—small town tension, sizzling enemies-to-lovers chemistry, and just enough danger to keep me on the edge of my seat.
Right from the jump, the book starts with action, and Callie is in need of help. She goes to One Shot Tactical because of an interaction she had with them previously, but the guy she wants help from isn’t the one she finds. Instead she gets Seth, who is quite grumpy and has a hostility towards her that she doesn’t truly understand.
But what really got me was the emotional core. Our heroine is not just trying to survive—she’s also fighting to protect her younger sister. She’s fierce, determined, and carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. The stakes are personal and high, and that made each twist in the story land that much harder. Callie’s protective instincts brought out something deep in Seth—and once he gets into protector mode? Total catnip. He’s broody, capable, and willing to burn the world down to keep her safe. YES, please.
The small-town backdrop adds that perfect layer of secrets and close-quarters tension, while the danger creeping in from the shadows keeps the pace tight and fast. Add in the funny moments with a frustrated Alex as his men fall for the women around them, and the great supporting cast of characters. I didn’t want to put this one down.
If you’re into stories with forced proximity, reluctant allies, high-stakes emotions, and just the right amount of suspense wrapped up in swoony moments. Plus secrets coming to light, then Seth is going to be a hit for you. It’s gritty, heartfelt, and packed with emotional payoff.
A definite add to your TBR if you love your romance with danger, depth, and undeniable heat.
This next addition to the Ghost Ops series was a good read and left me wanting for more.
Callie is a coder that finds herself in need of a body guard when someone starts a fire in the lab that she works in and trapped her in there. She seeks help from the Ghost Ops crew to protect her and her teenage sister while she questions if she should just go on the run. She ends up with Seth (Phantom) as her body guard who she thinks does not like her only to discover that she has more in common with him than she realizes.
Seth, viewed as the grumpy one is tasked with protecting Callie and her sister Nikki. He opens up more with her than he has with other people. He doesn't trust easily but finds that he can't help himself when with Callie and has a strong urge to keep her and her sister safe while looking for who is after her and fighting his own demons.
This pair were well written characters. Callie is grieving the death of her parents, dealing with their debt while navigating being guardian to her sister who has had her whole life uprooted while grieving for he parents on top of dealing with the threat to her. Seth with his issues was more than I expected. He opened up when not expected and was a tormented character. Together the chemistry between them was off the charts and the banter between the characters was entertaining. The plot of their story was a little slow in places but still made for a good read. I enjoyed the return of the characters from the previous books in the series and was left looking forward to the next book in the series.
Overall, this was a good read that I would recommend to others as well as the rest of the series to others.
Good stuff: There's some good writing here. The leads are fleshed out and interesting. The secondary characters, especially the teenage sister. This series overall is entertaining and fun to read.
Not so good stuff: The plot has big pacing issues. Mainly, it moves super slow and doesn't make much sense. It's also really repetitive. A lot of the events are just recycled. I love good dialogue as much as any reader, but wow-there seemed to be many pages of minute, detailer dialogue that could have been summed up a lot quicker and moved the story along. It didn't really add to the plot or provide a greater understanding of the characters. It felt like filler.
Sadly, the final conflict scenes were basically a variation on TSTL. We are expected to believe this group of super warriors decide the missing bad guy "must have left the country." People! The bad guy never leaves the country. That's just crazy. Then the leads decide to go back to the female lead's place, unconcerned that the female lead's young sister isn't answering her cell. Wow.
All that spoiled my ability to suspend my disbelief. Why put together a decent story and then drop everything near the end just to wrap it up? A total drag.
Finally, there were some big holes left, even for a series. No one ever figures out who was calling the female lead. Or who was really directing the arsonist, whose story was shakey and super thin. And it still seems more than a coincidence that the female lead's parents got knocked off right before she got the job offer that took her to the US.
The series has been pretty entertaining, but this book felt like a misstep.
This is another great story in the Ghost Ops series! Everytime Ghost gets irked at another member of his team biting the dust I laugh with glee.
This book was about Seth and Callie. We met both of them in previous books. Seth is known as the grumpy one, and you learn that some of this is from his upbringing with his grandparents. Callie works at the factory where the top secret project is being worked on and she is a top suspect of the team because of her connections with Poland and Russia. After a fire traps Callie in the lab because she refuses to help steal the materials, she goes to One Shot Tactical for advice on how to protect herself and her sister Nikki. When Seth and the team realize that Callie has not been stealing data on the project and that she and her sister are in danger, Seth is assigned to protect her. What follows is a great story as Callie and Seth as well as Nikki and Seth get to know each other and grow closer.
What a great story of romance and suspense. I really enjoyed how the relationship between Seth and Callie grew and the things we learned about Seth in the story – including why he is so closed off sometimes. I also loved seeing our favorite characters from the Ghost Ops family during the story. Overall, a great addition to this series and I can’t wait for the next book to come out!
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book. This is my true and honest opinion.
Lynn Raye Harris delivers an action-packed and emotionally charged story in Seth, the third book in her Ghost Ops series. This small-town, enemies-to-lovers, military protector romance is a thrilling blend of suspense, passion, and vulnerability that keeps readers hooked from start to finish.
The dynamic between Seth “Phantom” King and Caroline Crowell is electric. Seth’s guarded nature and Callie’s desperate need for protection create a compelling push-and-pull dynamic. Their chemistry is undeniable, and as their walls break down, the emotional stakes rise. Harris does an excellent job of weaving their romance into the high-stakes plot without losing sight of either element. The backdrop of danger, with Callie on the run from a shadowy enemy, adds tension and urgency to their connection.
The small-town setting and camaraderie among the Ghost Ops team provide a strong foundation for the story. Seth’s internal struggle with trust and his growing feelings for Callie are well-developed, though at times his resistance feels slightly repetitive. Similarly, while the action sequences are gripping, some readers may find the resolution a bit rushed compared to the buildup.
Overall, Seth is a satisfying read that combines heartfelt romance with edge-of-your-seat suspense. Fans of military protector romances will love this installment and eagerly anticipate what’s next for the Ghost Ops team. A solid four-star read!
Caroline, aka Callie, works in a top secret lab on a secret mission. One night while working late, a fire starts outside and her lab is filling with smoke. The door to the lab is jammed and the sprinklers aren't turning on. When it looks like this is the end, the sprinklers finally turn on and she's able to escape but she "heard" the message they were sending her. Her time is up and she needed to do what they ask or the consequences would be severe. Feeling like she has no where to turn, she heads to One Shot Tactical to get some security help since they were working on the lab recently. Seth, aka Phantom, sees her there and he's assigned to stay with her while they help her out. Seth doesn't trust her one bit, but then again, he doesn't trust anyone but the men at One Shot. He's grumpy and doesn't talk. Callie isn't happy that he's the one assigned to her because the others are so open and friendly and he's the complete opposite with her, but she needs their help. Seth moves in and the two of them have to figure out how to get along especially with Callie's younger sister there. He starts to warm up when he realizes that Callie's contact just showed up dead in a river and somehow is still texting her about meeting. This book has it all - suspense, intrigue, budding romance. I loved it! A great addition to this series!
I just love the premise of this story, especially with a young mother figure to a teenage girl, a dog, horses and journaling..and of course, mystery and danger.
I felt compassion for Callie because it seems like she has the weight of the world on her young shoulders taking care of her younger sister, Nikki after their parent’s untimely deaths. She never quits, even when she’s exhausted, stressed or upset. She’s highly intelligent, speaks 3 languages fluently and is very good at her job as a programmer.
Seth is a grump, even the author thinks so. He’s a man of very few words, doesn’t show much humor or engage in anything “silly” or offer any idle chit chat. This makes him appear moody, unapproachable and maybe a little off-putting.
I enjoy how Callie brings Seth slowly out of his comfort zone and he, in turn, brings her out of her stressed out life and teaches her to trust. I just love Nikki’s maturity, attitude, and her love of all things horses. In my opinion, Luna is the star of the show with her instant, absolute love and loyalty to Callie and Nikki.
Full of intensity and mystery, the danger is always just around the corner. There are also many soft and sweet moments until they turn HOT which makes this story very un-put-down-able! Love it!
Seth is book three in the Ghost Ops series by Lynn Raye Harris. After nearly dying in her lab, software engineer Caroline Crowell (Callie) needed to disappear to protect her younger sister, and to do this, she needed help. Callie decided to ask One Shot Tactical for help. However, upon arrival, Seth and the team decided it was best for Callie to stay and fight. Seth moved into her home pretending to be her boyfriend. Will Callie and Seth fall in love? The readers of Seth will continue to follow Seth and Callie to discover what happens.
Seth kept up the love affair with this series, and, lucky for me, it was the weekend, so I did not have to do anything but read. I engaged with this book from the first page and kept reading to the end. I am starting to understand the difference between a hacker and a programmer, and their roles in an organisation. In addition, the readers will learn the work you need to do to complete in horse competitions.
I love Lynn Raye Harris's portrayal of her characters and their interactions throughout this book. Seth is well written and well researched by Lynn Raye Harris. I like Lynn Raye Harris's descriptions of Seth's settings, which help me imagine myself as part of the book's plot.
Seth aka Phantom has a chip on his shoulder, a cynical streak a mile wide and a hardened resolve never to fall in love. Especially with mega intelligent, polylingual computer scientists! Yeah, let's see how long that lasts?!
Callie has been carrying a lot of burdens and guilt around. She's guardian of her baby sister, trying to keep them homed, completing her secret project work for the government and then her so-called friend pressures her to commit industrial espionage, if not treason!
Ah Seth, you really didn't want to like Callie did you? But you can't resists being a protector, even for one you think is possibly in league with the bad guys! But thankfully he finally gets through Callie defences, has her sister on his side and his team-mates are watching with interest , all whilst poor Ghost is smacking his head on a table and muttering to himself!
The banter is on point and the snarky comments zing. Nikki is a breath of fresh air - she is so self-aware and unselfish. She is well aware of how much Callie is doing to keep them together. She is pretty cool-headed in a crisis too.
Mr. Grumpy is also Mr. Hottie!! Seth is the third book in the Ghost Ops series and is by far my favorite book in the series so far. This series is getting better and better and I can’t wait to see how this mission finally ends! Seth is certainly a very complex man, but once you see past his grumpiness, you’ll find a man that loves hard and fights to protect what is his. When you learn his back story, you’ll understand what drives Seth to be the person that he is. Then there is Callie, the woman that he is tasked to protect and watch over. Callie has been through so much herself and has a hard time believing in herself or that she is someone that a man like Seth could be interested in. I loved watching these two grow closer to each other and how Seth proves to Callie that she is the woman for him. These two really have great chemistry and are perfect together. I also really love how Nikki is with Seth too. That girl cracked me up with some of her comments to both Callie and Seth. She’s a hoot! This book also lets us see more of the other guys too, like Ghost, Kane and the rest of the gang. Can’t wait for the next book to come out!
I loved Seth. He was a hacker and obviously a bad-ass operative, as are all the heroes in Ms. Harris's Ghost Ops series. But he was so incredibly endearing. He is not a man who has had good, healthy emotional experiences in his past, so he simply turns off his emotions or doesn't trust them, making him come off as a perpetual grump. But his efforts to learn how to chit-chat, and every new discovery and acknowledgement of what he feels show a lot of character growth. He understands keeping a woman safe and working a mission--but learning about pets, trusting his friends, processing some of the heart-breaking events from his past, and falling in love with a "sad and pretty" nerd like Callie made his journey to a HEA a great read.
We learn more about the Athena project and who more of the threats and players are in the Ghost Ops mission. And I absolutely love how we're getting to know all the men on the team and the interesting supporting players in this series. Oh, and Alex "Ghost" Bishop banging his head on the table when he realizes another operative has succumbed to romance--too funny!
The Ghost Ops series by Lynn Raye Harris is a series about 6 men who who are supposed to have no ties on a top secret mission in a small town in Alabama. These men are supposed to be unattached and stay that way. So for in this series, 2 men have already fallen in love. Seth: A Small Town, Enemies to Lovers, Military Protector Romance is Seth's turn to succumb to love. Caroline is a software engineer whose life is threatened because of her work on a top secret project in a top secret lab. Seth King "Mr. Grouch" doesn't trust many people so when Caroline goes to One Shot Tactical for help, Seth doesn't trust her and he certainly doesn't want to get to know her, most especially be with her. Well as they say the best laid plans doesn't always happens. The more time Caroline and Seth spend together to resolve Caroline's problem the more they are drawn to each other. Have I gotten your interest to find out the rest of this story, I encourage to read this book! You will not be disappointed. Lynn Raye Harris has another winner in my book and I can't wait for the rest of the books in this series to come out. Great read!
Seth aka Phantom doesn’t do idle chit chat, he rarely smiles and is a gruff until Callie. She needs him and his team to protect her as she has just survived a fire where she believes she was targeted and she has her reasons for believing someone is out to get her. Seth believes…at first…that she may be the traitor they are looking for but soon realizes he’s got the wrong person. Living together, to protect her and her sister, Nikki, Seth finds himself opening up to Callie, chit chatting and wanting to be with her…he doesn’t do relationships or love. As the team and Callie try to figure out who and what they want from her, secrets are spilled, accusations are made and trust is broken. A great read with suspense, spies, traitors, steam, surprises, a scrapbooking nerd, a grumpy military man, and a few laugh out loud moments, thanks to Nikki and Ghost. The story flowed, descriptions were spot on, little to no drama between the two and great characters all around kept me flipping the pages. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
The guys are still hard at work doing secret squirrel stuff for the government while running the shooting range, until Callie needs help. She’s a talented programmer, the only one capable of working on a huge project, but there’s something shady happening at work. Seth is assigned to be bodyguard, and anything else to ensure her safety, but quickly turns into Alex’s worst fears. Every operative has fallen for their charge, so far. I enjoyed reading Seth and Callie, hearing about the horses and her programming, but the vibe was a bit off between them. He’s a grumpy ass and she’s sensitive and it’s obviously taboo to start a relationship, but it took me almost the whole book to really “get” their relationship. It’s just the chemistry wasn’t as instant as with others but once it took place they were easier to like. Each book has a story for a different couple but there is an overall storyline connecting the series. It’s worth it to start with the first but you won’t be lost starting here. I received an early copy and wrote my review voluntarily.
I was not ready for Seth! He is in the other books as he obviously is part of the team, but now we get his grumpy goodness and the reasons for it! His background is sad but also makes it so endearing to see him either way Callie’s sister. I just wanted to hug him when he shared his concerns and reasons since he clearly has the loyal and protective traits down to a t. Callie is the embodiment of strength and she doesn’t know it. Her loyalty to family, country and work is so strong and that made the different betrayals she faced even more heart wrenching. They are an adorable couple, especially with the chit chat and small talk! The overarching mission for this series takes a significant step, the other couples are present and strong as ever, Kane and Daphne are adorably frustrating and Ghost is my favorite. His openness with Seth about his childhood, his mutterings about the team, and his interactions with the FBI agent always have me smiling and wanting more. Another good read and great addition to this series!
I really enjoyed this book. I have been following this author for a very long time and own all her Hot series books as well as the Ghost Ops spin off. Military romantic suspense is one of my favorite tropes and this book didn’t disappoint. The story is about Seth and Callie. Seth, or Phantom, is part of the Ghost series team. His reputation is of being grumpy and reserved but deep inside he is very caring and lives with the guilt of signing the parental rights of a daughter he had when he was a teenager.
Callie in the meantime works at the lab on a secret project that the team has been following for a while. When the lab is attacked and she almost dies, she asks the Tactical team to help her.
Overall the plot is very well written although at times I felt like it dragged and I didn’t understand how nobody knew about Seth’s daughter if he had a thorough background check prior to joining this elite team?
I love these books and can’t wait the next one to come out
