Reflections: Stories of Life, Death, and Everything In Between

Step into a world where magic intertwines with reality, where memories shape destinies, and where loss is met with resilience. Reflections by Dean Jones is a collection of poignant, thought-provoking stories that explore the depths of human experience. From the wonder of childhood to the complexities of grief, each tale weaves a rich tapestry of emotions, offering readers a window into lives touched by tragedy, healing, and the enduring power of hope.

In The Magic Show, childhood innocence and a father’s love are shattered by tragedy, leaving one woman to rediscover the magic that still lives within her memories. In The Escapist, a man fights for his life—both in the real world and within the confines of his own mind. And in A Final Farewell, an elderly man reflects on the love and loss that shaped his life, finding peace in the most unexpected of places.

For fans of magical realism, psychological thrillers, and emotionally charged fiction, Reflections delivers a masterful exploration of life’s most profound moments. Each story promises to linger in the reader's mind, leaving you with a renewed sense of wonder and a deeper understanding of the human spirit.

As the author of "Reflections," delving into the depths of this anthology feels akin to wandering through a labyrinth of my own creation, each turn revealing a facet of the human psyche illuminated by the flickering shadows of imagination. "Reflections" is not merely a collection of short stories; it is an odyssey that traverses the blurred lines between reality and the surreal, the tangible and the ethereal, inviting readers to question the very fabric of their existence.
Each narrative within "Reflections" serves as a mirror, not just reflecting the external world but also revealing the hidden corners of the soul. From the haunting journey of survival in "The Escapist" to the poignant exploration of life's fragility in "Last Gasp," these tales weave a tapestry of human emotions, fears, and desires, underscored by the perpetual quest for understanding and redemption.
"Crossing the Abyss" examines the tumultuous journey of self-discovery, while "Possessed" delves into the darker recesses of the mind, challenging our perceptions of control and freedom. "The Magic Show" offers a mesmerising glimpse into the allure of the inexplicable, and "Whispers of the Silent Room - The Land Beyond Slumber" transcends the boundaries of dreams and reality, beckoning readers into a realm of infinite possibilities.
Crafting "Reflections" was an endeavour of passion, a dance with the shadows that lurk within us all. It is my hope that these stories resonate with readers, not just as fleeting moments of escape but as profound encounters with the essence of what it means to be human. Each story, though distinct in its setting and characters, is bound by the underlying theme of reflection—on life, on death, and on the myriad paths that lie in between.
In this anthology, I sought to blur the edges of genre, melding elements of psychological horror, speculative fiction, and magical realism to create a mosaic of narratives that defy simple categorisation. It is a journey meant to provoke, to unsettle, and ultimately, to enlighten.
"Reflections" invites readers to embark on a journey that is as much about the characters within its pages as it is about the reader themselves. It is an invitation to gaze into the mirror, to confront the abyss, and perhaps, to find a reflection staring back that is both foreign and familiar.
As the author of this collection, I extend my deepest gratitude to you, the reader, for stepping into this world of shadows and light. May you emerge from the labyrinth of "Reflections" with a deeper understanding of the stories we tell ourselves and the truths we seek in the silent spaces between words.

I’ve been a big fan of Dean Jones’ work for a long time, the first book I read was ‘Father of Storms’ and it was brilliant. So it was with great anticipation I picked up my copy of ‘Reflections’ and I must say it did not disappoint.

This beautifully written collection draws you in from the very first story and keeps you gripped right to the last. With compelling and vividly depicted characters you become immediately invested in each story. Jones perfectly navigates the reader through gripping tales with twists and turns that truly make you reflect on what it means to be alive.

My personal favourites in this collection were ‘The Magic Show’, a captivating story that takes the reader on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and the suspenseful ‘Possessed’ that keeps the reader on the edge of their seats from beginning to end.

I honestly couldn’t recommend this collection more!

love, death & everything in between

the themes are both as consistent as they are universal: what are the limits? the limits of life? the limits of love? in The Magic Show, a daughter’s love for her father is literally enough to bring him back from beyond. in The Escapist, the prison a man finds himself in is life itself. In Last Gasp, an accident victim must decide to save himself. In A Final Farewell, a widower’s forgiveness is necessary for peace. In Whispers of the Silent Room, a man must forgive himself for family tragedy. in Crossing the Abyss, a successful suicide victim counsels an aspirant against the value of that “success”. & in Possessed, evil will have its say. Anyone alive can feel the value in these tales.
