Oh my goodness, I don't think I could love this book more! Edward Entwistle (based on a real boy!) tells tall tales, but his gumption is what appeals to George Stephenson, the pioneering engineer of rail travel.
As someone who knew embarrassingly little about this particular chapter of Victorian innovation, I loved this front row seat to the famous Rainhill Trials - the engineers and their engines, the secrets and sabotage, the fierce rivalries and daring risks. Edward's friendship with resourceful and plucky Prudence feels very authentic, too, giving us two brilliant characters to root for. This book has high pace action and high-stake drama to burn! Highly, highly recommended. I have read all of Brownrigg's books. I think this is the best one yet, and that is saying something!
