Ever since she stole a house from her brother Calvin, things have been tough for Amy Willard. Her job at her parents’ company barely pays enough to live on and her chronic condition keeps her buried in medical debt; she’s barely hanging on to her gram’s historic house that she loves dearly.
Once Calvin takes over the family company and fires her, she’s sure that he’s gotten the revenge he’s always wanted. In a desperate attempt to save herself and her home, she begins job hunting.
When she shows up to her first interview, the CEO is none other than Levi Hensen, the only man who has ever hated her brother—and the only man who has broken her heart. Despite her hostility, he offers her a position that will make all her financial problems go away. The role?
His wife.
Amy knows this offer is only intended to hurt Calvin. After all, what better way to get back at your enemy than to marry his sister? She’ll simply take the financial security and won’t get caught up in his nice smile or persistent kindness.
But as lines blur, Levi starts feeling more like a husband and less like a man bent on revenge. As time goes on, Amy begins to wonder if he might actually love her—or if she’s still on the receiving end of his ill will toward her brother.

Ill Willis a full-length, standalone novel written in first person. It is the second installment in the interconnected Aisle and Error series. If you like protective husbands, hidden identities, and spice, this is the novel for you!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Just finished reading the Story of Levi and Amy and my first thoughts about this book is that I’m really glad they finally communicated in the end!

I really miss having a dual POV with those type of stories because I would really like to geht Levi’s POV to know his side of certain events. (But that probably is more of a me problem because most recent romance books I read are dual POV and it’s what I’m preferring and am used to read)

To the Story:

The book starts 9 years ago at the 19th birthday of Amy and her twin brother Calvin and this is where all problems start. The whole story is build on the bad family dynamics of Amy’s family and the rivalry between Levi and Calvin. What gets clear even in this first few chapters is that Levi really likes Amy and we get so see the extend of exactly that during the book. He really wants to make up for the mistakes he made 9 years ago and goes above and beyond. Her family is a real piece of work and I loved the ending for them.

I only wished that Amy and Levi communicated more on a deeper level because I felt like the problems they had could have been solved with one real talk. Also I feel like there could have been a bit more character depth for them both but especially for Levi I feel like we only get to know him on a surface level.

I really enjoyed this book and a huge thanks to Literary Rising and Elle Rivers for the opportunity to read an ARC of ill Will! 🤍

ARC REVIEW

4.5/5 stars

I cannot accurately express how much I enjoyed this book. This is my first time reading anything by Elle Rivers but I fear I've added another name to my "read anything they write" list. The reason? I like the way she writes conversations. I absolutely loved the way that they seemed organic and similar to conversations that I've personally had. I really do not want to spoil anything because I thoroughly enjoyed reacting to it in the moment (I was literally giggling and kicking my feet, ask anybody who was in my general vicinity the past 24 hours). Long story short, everybody should have the opportunity to react to it spoiler free because wow. But I can tell you that Amy and Levi have such good banter and chemistry (hence the feet kicking). Oh and that is a marriage of convenience romance with disability rep, that's important to mention. I didn't read "Contractual Obligations," but "Ill Will" is definitely the second part in an interconnected standalone series. And if you liked that first one I am so confident that you'll like this one as well. Lily and Sebastian are both in it a decent amount AND Sebastian is soooo one of the girlies lol. But this isn’t about them, I love the growth of both Amy and Levi, they both overcome some pretty horrible shit (mostly her though). Oh and Calvin? Public Enemy Number One, I would on sight be rocking his shit. IF you're worried about it, there are a few sex scenes but they are not the entire plot. It is definitely more a story of pining and unrequited love (you know the tooootally average marriage of convenience experience). It is really, really nice. I will for SURE be coming back to this book in the future. Happy reading! :)

Before I get really into this here is the positive out of the way:
If you want a lighter than air, turn off your brain COMPLETELY, tropes on tropes on tropes book, you can give this a go.

Now...

I'd like to say from a personal standpoint I am SICK and EXHAUSTED of romance books having this trope of the FMC being a romance/smut reader as core personality. Enough. PLEASE. ENOUGH. This is so overdone, so boring, so trite, such a weak connection grab with the reader it IMMEDIATELLY puts me in the opposite position of disliking her a bit. And then when you don't have any other personality traits it makes me go from meh to hatred.
Can we move past this PLEASE. This is the clumsy beautiful outcast FMC from Twilight era overdone trope on steroids. I am SICK of it, no one does it right.

Aside from that, what I normally enjoy about the fake marriage trope is the uncertainty of like: does the MMC like her or not? Give me some angst, some tension, some ANYTHING other than: DUH. It was sickeningly obvious that a. Levi had the hots for her and b. that V was Levi. I mean. God. It was sooooooooo annoying reading her having her doubts when you as a reader knew with 200% certainty that he was doing everything for her. There was no mystique whatsoever.
Why did Levi love her and had the disposable income he had was a better question that we never find the answer to.
Love at first sight and "magic CEO" money (since he hardly ever went to work) and his company was reportedly "in trouble" for most of the book.

Overall the first book from this series was weak but I thought maybe had potential and this would have been an improvement as being the second one, but this was weaker by leaps and bounds and I probably won't be reading anything further from this author.

Put simply: this was bad, it was a pile of tropes in a trench coat and felt like a waste of time.

ARC Review: I enjoyed the first book in the series so I was really excited when I saw this one was coming out! I really liked the main characters, as someone with chronic migraines its cool to see someone else reping the migraine game ha! Also it was so refreshing to have a main character that can admit they don't want a job, and will take the money! If only i could get the same deal. As for Levi, I wished we could see things from his POV. I feel like his trauma and his past were very quickly breezed over, it would have been cool to get to know him more in depth.

In regards to the plot and the writing, I actually enjoyed both (usually I DNF books for bad writing)! I think the love story itself could have been a little more detailed, cause at times it felt like the relationship moments were very out of the blue. This could just be because im used to reading duel POV, and since we don't see Levi's POV it’s a bit difficult to tell what hes thinkin. I really enjoyed the family dynamic plot. I think a lot of books have weird sibling relationships where they are like way to close its borderline creepy, so seeing siblings that hate each other was refreshing in an odd way.

Anywayyyyys this is my first ARC read so this whole experience has been pretty cool, happy reading everyone!

I don't even like to leave reviews but the shocking change in the quality from her other book to this one had me 😲. This book genuinely felt like I was reading one of those AI generated reddit stories. Every character had like one single trait the whole way through the story, none of the plot points really had much build up or conclusion, just an overall disappointing book. This is coming from someone who LOVED contractual obligations.... I need answers.

Solid plot, but the writing was cringy

I’m not sure if a 15 year old wrote this or a millennial. I remember liking book 1 but good god was this one hard to get through. I stayed for the plot but I mean good god the writing was simultaneously too much, and somehow robotic at the same time. Idk how she pulled that off.

There weren’t really any grammar errors but the writing lacked personality. It was like the character was a robot that was unfeeling. Amy supposedly had all these strong emotions but it felt like she was just going through the motions. The writing didn’t reflect the emotions the characters were feeling.

The way that Amy just tells relative strangers that her marriage is fake and that she stole a house was just wild.

Sally coming to tell her that Levi “might be” cheating was so weird.

Levi Hensen is a type of man I would want in a real life.

And Amy deserves a warm comforting hug for all the things she went through because of her family. No one deserves this kind of toxic family.

The story of Levi and Amy was an engaging read, but it didn’t fully live up to its potential for me. The plot had some interesting elements, particularly the complex family dynamics and Levi's attempts to make amends for past mistakes, but I found the lack of communication between the characters to be frustrating. Many of their issues could have been resolved with a simple, honest conversation, yet the story dragged out due to this lack of deeper communication.

While I enjoyed the premise, I really missed having a dual POV. Not knowing what Levi was thinking at key moments left me feeling disconnected from his character. It would have been nice to gain a better understanding of his past trauma and how it shaped his actions throughout the book. As it is, his character felt underdeveloped, and I was left wanting more depth.

Amy, as the protagonist, was likable, and I appreciated the representation of her chronic migraines, which added a relatable layer to her character. However, I felt like the romance, especially at certain moments, was a bit rushed and felt disconnected at times. The relationship felt a bit out of the blue at points, possibly due to the lack of insight into Levi's perspective.

Overall, the writing was solid, and the story moved at a decent pace, but I found myself wishing for more emotional depth and stronger character development, particularly for Levi. The family dynamics were interesting, though, and I did appreciate the refreshing portrayal of sibling rivalry. While this book kept me entertained, it didn’t fully satisfy my expectations. That's why I'm giving it 3 ⭐.

Thanks to the author for the review copy!

DNF - 43%

I did not connect with the story. The FMC was annoying actually. I liked her in the beginning but then she started irritating me. Like it’s a fake marriage, stop telling everyone about it. Plus she didn’t invite her neighbour friend over for her wedding ? I thought they were close. Also the brother is mentioned in every single chapter. Even on their wedding, when Levi says that no one will talk about the brother - he & others talk about Calvin in every interaction. Levi is V is so obvious though. It’s so hard to believe that for 9 years these two talked but never about anything personal.

Levi was also meh ! Since it’s all in FMC’s pov, I did not like him or couldn’t understand him.

The thing that these two annoyed me the most was - they don’t know how to do a fake wedding and make it look real.
Like you don’t announce it’s fake to literally any soul who listens to you, you set your stories straight before everything, YOU DECIDE WHO’S MOVING INTO WHO’S HOUSE. AND DEFINITELY DONT SAY “THINGS ARE MOVING TOO FAST” AFTER Y’ALL GET MARRIED & DEFINITELY NOT IN FRONT OF THE PARENTS !!!

The writing was bland & abrupt. I had to concentrate hard to figure out what or who is speaking to whom.

I’m going to make a list of authors I don’t wanna read anymore and this one is going in that list sadly.

I’ve tried reading works from this author before and I DNF’d them but I decided to try again. not my best decision. the book wasn’t all bad, it was definitely and acceptable story, but i found that it was just so surface level. i feel like i didn’t really know amy or levi, their relationship didn’t feel that special, and the entire issue with her brother and family just felt basic. sometimes the story was just moving so fast like they did this then they did that then we went to bed and then the chapter would end. it just didn’t feel like a fully developed story other than the basics.

i really wanted to like it more but it just didn’t do it for me

This is my second book by Elle Rivers. And honestly she did not disappoint. I felt so connected with Amy & Levi.
I also got to see my two favorite people Lily & Sebastian and their wonderful surprise at the end.
Anyways from the minute I picked up the book I couldn’t put it down and finished it on the same day. I loved how Levi is a man who reads romance books. Also how he connects with Amy to discuss their reads and recommend each other what else to read next. I honestly made me be like goals. I wish I had someone who I can connect with my books. Overall everything was amazing, it captured everything. I felt like I was Amy living through everything with Levi, Calvin, her parents.
The reason I’m giving a 4.5/5 is cause it did frustrate me how Amy would just assume everything and wouldn’t open up to Levi. But also get it because her past trauma she couldn’t trust no one. Also I wish we got more in depth of how Calvin misery went down. He deserved the worst and her parents as well.
Levi my man cause I would like to have someone like him to talk about my books. He gave me high standards.
One of my favorite quotes from Levi “ I don’t care about the stuff you share with him. I want to know you. Like how you got this scar.”

Soo soo good! I just wish it had a dual pov. I really wanted Levi’s pov in certain chapters. It would have solidified 5 stars for me. I loved Lily and Seb’s cameos in the book.

I would recommend reading Contractual Obligations before this. A 5 stars read for me. I am enjoying the series so far

I absolutely loved Ill Will by Elle Rivers and feel so honored to have been an ARC reader for this incredible story!

Through Amy’s journey, we see what it’s like to live in the shadow of her twin brother, Calvin—always second best, never quite enough. But when life throws unexpected challenges her way, she’s forced to reevaluate her worth and finally step into the spotlight where she belongs.

If you're a fan of romance, ‘he falls first’ dynamics, and heartfelt second chances, this book is a must-read!

OMG Amy is absolutely hilarious! Unfiltered, unapologetically herself & unbelievably brilliant! She is fierce & after living in the shadow of her brother & discarded by her parents as an inconvenience most of her life, she deserves her HEA. Amy is a lover of books, but she believes that is the only place a HEA lies. When she bumps into Levi, her brothers ‘enemy’, he offers her a helping hand that she can’t help but accept.
The commitment, compassion & caring Levi shows her, she thinks it’s all for show. It’s a show alright, but who is it truly for??
This story has beautiful undertones of found family, the importance of letting go of past, of letting love in & learning the wonder of what it’s like to be truly seen.

I had a great time devouring this ARC, it made me laugh, swoon & tear up. I highly recommend it! Thank you for sharing this with the world Elle.

This book was fabulous. I felt like I was turning each page to find out more about Amy and Levi.
This read was filled with drama and mystery. Any and Levi had history. Many that was lots of history with twist and turns. A lot of the drama you kind of expected but there was lots of unexpected things. And I loved it.
But let's talk about an abusive family member. Or members. Amy has the worst family brother mother and father. But can I say this author handled the past abuse well. She gave Amy's character the path of healing and closure. Which was a healthy step fur this characters journey to trusting Levi and moving forward.
This is my first read by this author and I can assure you it won't be my last.

TW SPOILERS!

Not gonna lie, this book was horrible but yet again, i also have a thing for horrible books, n i mean, it put me in a reading slump so yk, also Levi was not sly about him being V, like i knew the dude was V from the prologue, Amy had to be blind to not see that, like when she was waiting for Levi to get out of a meeting whilst texting V, n then Levi came out, like girl r u really that blind? Omg

I haven't read any of Elle's books before but after reading this I will certainly look into more of her writing. The book is based on Amy and Levi whom she has known for years. Amy is a twin and has a younger sister, but the obvious favourite is her twin brother. Nothing Amy does is ever enough and her chronic illness is always played down. When her brother takes over the family business he sacks her on day one leaving her without health insurance. Amy knows she is not good enough, she knows people only show interest in her to get closer to her brother. But with she meets Levi after all these years and he proposes a fake marriage to get back at her brother she agrees. But she knows he's just using her that sooner or later he dump her for someone better. The only person she had was her Gram and now she's gone too. This story covers so many factors and issues that you can't help but be drawn into it. Levi really tries to help Amy to see her worth. But will her past stop her from accepting the truth. Will her illness prove to be to much. Or will her trust issues slowly push away everyone. The story is written from Amy's perspective and is nice to see the growth and changes that happens throughout the story. There's just the right amount of steam to not take away from the many story. I can't recommend this book enough and can't wait to read more from Ella.

ARC REVIEW
3.5 ⭐️

After I read the first book in the Aisle and Error series, I was intrigued in terms of Amy’s story. She almost seemed too kind to be true so I knew there had to be something there, especially with the snippets she shared about her family.

Honestly, this book fell a bit flat for me. I really liked what the author was trying to do with the storyline, but I think it had a lot of potential to be a bit deeper and more thought out. Similar to the last book, the ending was pretty rushed despite having such a large part in the story. I also noticed that some of the plot points were almost identical to the events that happened in the first book in the series. Also, I felt like Amy was incredibly naïve and missed a lot of the signs that were right in front of her in addition to being so “no body cares about me” with little nuance, and backstory to get us to truly understand it, therefore it felt whiny at points. This book had a huge miscommunication/under communication trope that I personally did not enjoy because it felt really childish, even though the characters were in their mid/late 20s. Additionally, it seemed like there was a larger story to be told in terms of Levi, the MMC, but we really only got snippets of his life, and there was virtually no character development when it came to him. I think a dual POV would have added the depth his character needed.

Ultimately, if you’re looking for cozy romance, and don’t mind it being a little childish and a lot of miscommunication — this book is perfect. It has those feel good vibes. It just left me with a lot of questions because I like a lot of detail in the books that I read. Definitely feel really lucky to have been a part of this ARC team!!

So listen, I went in expecting swoon and fluff, maybe some butterflies? What I got? A FMC who was texting a guy named “V” for NINE YEARS and never once connected the dots that it might be short for… oh, I don’t know… Levi? Like, come on miss girl, it’s giving ✨willful oblivion✨. At some point, you’re not mysterious—you’re just ignoring the obvious.

And Levi? My sweet summer child… where is your personality? Saying he loves romance books with happy endings is cute once, maybe twice. But when that’s the only personality trait and it’s mentioned so often I started skimming out of self-preservation? That’s a problem. Man had the emotional range of a teaspoon and the charisma of a damp paperback. Bland doesn’t even begin to cover it 😭 (you know it’s serious when I start using emojis).

And don’t get me started on the self-referential pop culture. Yes, I love books. Yes, I love love. But reading a romance book about people who love romance books who talk about how this feels like a romance book… girl, I’m dizzy. Let me live inside the story, not inside a booktok loop.

Levi has set the new standard 👏🏼 This book was incredible, I have never giggled so much at a book in my life 😍 Get you a man that reads romance books you’ve recommended and then talks to you about them, yes ladies that’s Levi.

It was cuteness overload and I’m not even mad about it. Everything Levi did for Amy to try and make her see how much he actually cared about her and how all along she was it for him ❤️🥺 my heart melted every time.

All he wanted was her 🥹 don’t look at me I’m crying right now.

Amy had a terrible family, truly the worst and because of that she doesn’t let anyone close to her. So what do you do, you marry your brother’s enemy and he’s the one to suggest it because all he wants is her 😍 Amy deserves the world and Levi is the perfect man for her, their love and chemistry throughout this book was beautiful.

Also the ‘my wife’ gets me every freaking time AND he says ‘darling’. I will never recover.

This story was swoon worthy and I fear I’ll never be over Levi Hensen.
