They say in death, your life flashes before your eyes like pictures in an old movie reel. That had never happened for her.

Keeping her resurrection a secret is a matter of life and death for demon hunter Sophie Sinclair. When a hunt goes sideways and a chance encounter on the side of the road ends in a passionate lip-lock with a sexy stranger, Sophie sets off a sequence of events that further puts her secrets, her ex-lover’s life, and her heart in danger.

Ex-homicide detective turned private investigator, Ryan Campbell, is far from being a stranger to Sophie. Sophie might not remember the night she died in his arms, but Ryan sure as hell can’t forget.

Her long hair, the color of night, had been short when he held her as she choked on her own blood. And her eyes, the deepest blue. Life slowly faded from their depths as he asked for her name in that drab alley two years ago.

Dammit, why did he return her kiss? He didn’t go kissing stranded women on the side of the road, and definitely not a woman who should be dead. But to discover the answers to how Sophie defied the laws of life and death, Ryan offers her a steamy proposition, unknowingly jeopardizing his life and his heart.

How far will Ryan and Sophie go for duty and freedom, family and love? Will the truth set them free? Or will Ryan’s betrayal rip Sophie’s heart to pieces?

I'm an author of paranormal and contemporary romances. Blessed or cursed, depending on my mood and where I'm at on my current WIP, my overactive imagination guides my muse.

A big fan of Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I incorporate various weapons in my paranormal romances and use out of this world names just because I can.

I was caught by surprise when I got this book in the mail. I never received a message and I was so excited, the first giveaway I've ever won. As many of you know, it was gifted to me in return for an honest review. So here comes the ugly honest review.

Did. Not. Finish

-Sigh-

I was so excited to read this and jumped into it as soon as I was able. In the beginning the 3rd person writing felt kind of stiff and awkward but soon smoothed out and I'm sure it can be attributed to the hard time some authors have with writing a new book. (I have no room to judge, we won't discuss the many incomplete books I've written.) I greatly appreciate the chance to review a first read. :)

I liked that the plot was simple and the world relatively easy to understand without having to decipher too much. I wanted to like Sophie SO FREAKING BAD but I couldn't, she made me think of that Katy Perry song; Hot N'Cold. One minute she was a badass and the next well, she wasn't. Then there was this mysterious guy who became our main male protagonist, that Sophie didn't remember and couldn't seem to think around. Stuff seemed to pop out of left field as well, the beginning interaction with the demon Anson Black making me think this was a post apocalyptic setting for just a moment. And just let me clarify, it isn't; this is as modern day as it can get. Modern day with swords. xD

It might have gotten better but if you've seen my To Read list, I'm drowning in books I've yet to read (I own most of them) and just wasn't willing to keep trying with this one. I hardly ever give up on a book and can count on two hands how many times I have.

This just wasn't my cup of tea but just because it wasn't for me doesn't mean it's not a good book or that you won't like it! Take this review with a grain of salt, we all have different tastes. If you do read this book, I hope you enjoy it much more than I did.

I was lucky enough to win an advanced copy of this book by the author. I enjoyed the book, especially the chemistry between Sophie and Ryan. This book offered a little bit of everything, including romance, murder, family drama and love. This book even had funny moments. What I would have liked to have seen more of was detailed love scenes. That's something I always look for in my romance novels. Overall it is a good book.
