Tim Arnot claims to remember the Sixties, although that almost certainly means he wasn't there. In his defence though, he does claim to have been very small. He had a college education from which he spectacularly failed to get any qualifications at all. But that didn't stop him from going on to be a successful writer of programs for computers and apps for iThings (if you buy a train ticket in the UK from one of those touchy-feely machines, there's a good chance that Tim wrote the software inside it - unless it screwed up, in which case it was someone else).

Tim lives in Oxfordshire with his kindle and a collection of iThings. His first novel, Wanted (Flick Carter book 1) was published in 2013.

This book reminded me of The Three Musketeers albeit with heroines rather than heroes.

We are reintroduced to Flick as she struggles to come to terms with the aftermath of having been released from prison .The death of her brother is on her conscience as is the loss of her home and remaining family members, so begins her heartfelt quest and as she is reunited with prior acquaintances we find allegiances challenged and loyalties divided.

Action abounds in this swashbuckling tale, the story is well paced and balanced nicely with strong plotting and characters you want to believe in.

I became so absorbed in this world of flying karts, airships and adventure that I was taken by surprise when carnage ensued however the revelations as the tale neared its conclusion ensured I’ll be first in the queue when the sequel is released.

Hunted: Flick Carter #2by Tim Arnot

Hunted is the brilliant second novel in the Flick Carter series. After the traumatic events that concluded the first novel: Wanted, Flick is struggling to come to grips with her life, weighed down by guilt. Finding peace in the bottom of a bottle, Flick causes ructions in her home town. It isn’t long before things come to a head, and friendships become strained.
Clinging to her only ray of hope, Flick finds herself searching for clues to the whereabouts of her missing family. Ill equipped to find them, she seeks help from the Kingsmen.
On her journey, she crosses paths with a dark stranger, and soon, the mysterious man turns up like a ghost wherever flick goes.
Not for the first time, Flick finds herself dragged by forces beyond her control and sucked into another adventure.
This is a gripping tale and an excellent follow up story to the fabulous Wanted. The pace is gripping and the characters strong. My only complaint is that it ended too soon, and I was left wanting more (always the sign of a good book). I can’t wait for book three!

Disclaimer: I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review

The second instalment in this gripping series gets off to an explosive start, and just keeps going up from there.

Flick Carter has found herself alone after becoming an alcoholic following the events of Wanted. She also appears to be the target of an assassin, working for an unknown cause. In a post-apocalyptical world where the punishment for every crime is murder, who can she trust?

The characters from the first book are built on and improved and there are new friends and foes to be met who are introduced with the same depth as the rest were.

This is a definite must-read and I would recommend the series to anyone who likes the genre or fancies something new. I can't wait for the next one to be written :)

This second part of Tim Arnot's Flick Carter series is an exciting ride. Flick is pursued by a black-clad figure seemingly out to assassinate her. She hears him enquiring after the Carters. Later she finds that friends of hers have been killed by this man she calls Black Ghost. She is forced to make a bargain with Princess Jessica which results in her erstwhile boyfriend Shea running away from her in disgust.

I enjoyed the pace of the story and meeting characters I liked from the previous book. Tim Arnot’s good people have flaws like the rest of us and his bad people are wonderfully hateful. Dialogue flowed well and there were new characters to love or hate. There's mayhem at the end. I really need to read Book Three to see how it all pans out in this splendid series. An excellent read all round.

It's unusual to enjoy a second book more than the first but that was most definitely the case in this instance.
I loved Flick from the outset, but this book just made her more real, more gritty and also human. I eagerly await Flick 3.

This is the second in the Felicity (Flick) Carter series of books, set in a post-apocalypse England where there's no technology, and martial rule keeps most people in order.

Even though she's very young, Flick has been using alcohol to drown her sorrows about losing her home, her family and her friends. She's kicked out of her village and ends up becoming a trainee in the Kingsmen. A lot of this book is her during her enforced training. I wasn't too interested in this bit,

We also follow Shea as he loses friends too. In the background we have the mystery man who is following Flick and killing anyone who gets in his way. We also have more of Princess Jessica/Lieutenant Dixon, who I think is my favourite character.

I am enjoying this world that the author has fleshed out. It might be England, but it's a very different one to now.
