--------------

He’s got a touch that’s hotter than hot

It took a hell of a lot of fast-talking and more than a few speeding tickets before Mitch Thompson convinced Constable Anna Coleman to take him for a ride. Only now that she’s loosened off her stiff RCMP uniform, it’s not nearly enough. Their secret sexual escapades are mind-blowing, but Mitch wants more than her body—he wants her heart.

Her world could go up in flames

It’s a dangerous road to walk, and Anna doesn’t know how far she can safely tread. Bad boy Mitch may have lured her wild side out to play, but giving in to their increasingly passionate desires could endanger her very civilized career. Somewhere between yearning and obsession there has to be a balance point.

Or they’re both going to get burned.

R A T I N G: 3 stars to Rocky Ride ★ ★ ★

Rocky Ride is my second plunge into Vivian Arend territory, and let me tell you, the second standalone novella in the spin off Thomson and Sons series is unafraid of being sex shy. Libidinous from the outset, this story opens with a sexually charged, smutty escapade from page naught. We've got a policewoman heroine who's unfazed by her blossoming sense of sexual freedom and a bad boy, tatted biker hero who's game to live up to every fantasy on her list. As professed, this is my second book from the author and I've discovered that she really loves to relish in the kink factor. Her hero has a bit of a reputation for trouble, but one that's wholly based on how he looks and the way he lives his life. He's a good guy - with naughty intentions - who essentially has a bad rep and isn't well-received by his Rocky neighbours. He works as a mechanic at his family owned automotive trade. On the flip side Anna Coleman's a Constable on the law-abiding fringe of the law. On the surface, it looks like an opposites attract struggle, but both Mitch and Anna are easily matched In many ways.

It's been a while since I've indulged in a biker romance and I think it's because they're a bit of a hit and miss for me. The biker element isn't dominant with this one, so no big biker communities with political manoeuvering and leather culture. While this prioritises steam over plot and a sexual appetite over character development, it does have a believable social commentary on love, acceptance, sexual freedom and prejudice. The slice of life accompaniment was nicely presented and the mini conflict was nicely placed. I especially loved the twist with the hero being the one to chase exclusivity with the heroine. As the story begins, it's revealed that Mitch and Anna have sustained a raunchy sexual relationship bordering on a few months. Anna's the one who wants to keep it that way, in the shadows, uncomfortable as she is with how they'd look, or more importantly, how she'd look. It's a risk to her professional respectability and she's not ready for that. Mitch has reached a position that has him wanting a lot more than just a physically fulfilling relationship so he sets out to make out his own list via his own expectations.

It took me some time to warm up to Anna's character and her characterisation - she wasn't particularly easy to connect with and her POV felt more 'show over tell'. I was constantly trying to get a position on her, whereas Mitch was instantly likeable. Anna did gradually grow on me though, and I think my initial Indifference might have had something to do with her being more impersonable. She's a strong heroine, and due to the quick length of the story, it doesn't take long at all for her to decide to go all in, realise their potential together as a couple and expose her relationship with Mitch. It's all a very speedy process. I'm also very much in favour of the fact that Anna didn't have to compromise her professional nor her personal life to find some personal freedom in who she is. The two most important sides of her got to have a place in her life. I did find it a bit strange that their separation period lasted almost half a year - that felt a bit drastic to me but I think the author intended for that to establish a commitment to the end goal for them. A sort of 'if they can survive that much time apart for the sake of her career and for the sake of possibly being together again, then it's worth it'.

Just to gauge a rounded sense of a character's place in life, I do like to have the knowledge of how old the protagonists' I'm reading about are; I know how many older/younger siblings Mitch and Anna have, but we're not really prepped with how many laps they've had around the sun. Rocky Ride's definitely on the shorter side with this being a novella. In the short story spirit, the storytelling did feel rushed and swiftly developed in places but it does still manage to have a mild storyline involving a meddling colleague and a subtle development. And there are a few softer and more intimate moments between our couple. Superficially, Anna and Mitch are really only opposites in a perceived way, interconnected with what they do for a living. When Anna visibly gleans the judgment that Mitch always seems to be subjected to, she comes to some realisations about herself and Mitch, and dares to be out and proud with a man she only sees the best in. I'm glad she did, because Mitch Thomson's a keeper.

As we know, it doesn't take either Mitch or Anna too long to get hot and heavy (and that very potent chemistry even gets them in a few sticky situations). I've since picked up on the precedent that, as well as dropping in and out of each others' stories, the southerners that populate Vivian Arend's stories love to dip their toes in the neighbouring sex lives of their people. Anna's the cousin to the boys of the original Six Pack Ranch, and it was Jaxi and Blake Coleman's romance in Rocky Mountain Heat that I read. It had a lot of flaws but equalled in the same level of heat. Just like that particular book, there's the theme of sexual liberation and bed hopping as the author likes to engage in those multiple partner situations. The thing is, I don't like being surprised by multiple partner situations when it's something I'm not anticipating. A swinging sex life tends to be a part of her stories, and It's all very consensual and respectful. But just to clarify, there isn't any partner sharing or swinging in this book. The group sexual scenario serves a more voyeuristic role to fulfill a desire Anna has to be 'watched.' So the main couple and partnering couple get steamy watching each other do the deed. I have to admit though, the smut steamed up much more than just my spectacles. It was nicely done with heaps of the good stuff.

I did go back and forth between a 2.5 and three star rating for this one. In some ways, it carries the story well for what's being served, and in other ways it wasn't as well-balanced or plot-dedicated as it could have been. Something I do want to bring up is the grovel scene - which still makes me smile as I remember it. After reading a few books that lacked the level of grovelling I was looking for and hence had some unsatisfactory reconciliations, this heroine knows how to bring her hero to heel. I honestly couldn't help but laugh and have the respect for Anna for actually showing and telling Mitch how she felt and what she expects. She really pushes into the power role, and It might have been a smidge over the top, but I'm taking it because I fully appreciated the spirit of a grovel scene that channelled some good grovel energy. Rocky Ride is a short, high-heat, light erotic steamer with sexcapades, sexual experimentation and a quick and heady romance between a bold copper and her sweet - dirty talking - bad boy biker. Told in the third person POV (which did take me a bit of getting used to), this is a short, smutty, erotic read with some slivers of familial engagement and a slight storyline.

Content Warning: Mentions drugs. Some swearing. Mentions a past cancer battle and bereavement of a parent. Some violence. Kink, some light BDSM, multiple descriptive sex scenes, (inside and outdoors) and with some voyeuristic fun.

Heart's Desire

Vivian Arend Thompson and Sons bk 02 Rocky Ride

Anna Coleman and Mitch Thompson may not seem like a good match on paper or to the general public around them, but what makes them a wonderful couple has nothing to do with appearances or perceptions. I like how aware Anna becomes to the reactions of others and how she doubles down on her efforts to show everyone that they're good together.

When in private, these two are insanely hot. They are playful and plenty naughty! There are many NSFW moments that I love. Speaking of, I love how Mitch gets her to give them a chance and what they do with the respective lists of fantasies.

Mitch: “What’s making you laugh?”

Anna: Her world was still spinning. “I think I just left an ass print on my window.”

I love that they are uninhibited so much of the time. Role playing and making fantasies from their lists reality. On top of the exploding chemistry is all of the heart that each has. I love this couple! 💚🤗🔥

Anna's partner at work, Nick Dowes, is a giant jerk. He doesn't get his just due, in my opinion. He may not come out like a bed of roses, but it should've been worse. 🥊😵‍💫💩

This is a standalone. Even though the timeline overlaps book one in the series, you can read this separately.

I read along with the audio book. The narrator is Tatiana Sokolov, who does a really good job with all of the Rocky Mountain House books. 👍🎧👍

Riding the Law

It wasn't quite a 5 star rating, so I gave it 4 stars. There was an interesting story waiting to be told beside the sexual hijinks. Annie Coleman is a sergeant for the Royal Mounted Police Department. Her correct title is Constable Annie Coleman. She meets the local bad boy and the story heats up. And boy does she have great revenge plots against her enemies.

Damn can author Vivian Arend set the scene and oh yeah she can write sex scenes that will leave you hot and bothered or reaching for your partner. Rocky Ride is the first book in her Thompson & Son’s series and was released as part of an anthology, a bonus book Baby Be Mine was released this past winter, and the next book, One Sexy Ride is coming soon. A spin off of her Six Pack Ranch/Coleman family series this series is shaping up to be every bit as entertaining and satisfying in all ways!
In this book sexy, bad boy Mitch Thompson is playing loose and fast with Anna Coleman (a member of the Moonshine Coleman family) and a RCMP officer. On the outside they appear to be a strange match but when they are together, they set every surface on fire with their passion. After months of sneaking around Mitch wants more and he’s not sure how Anna will react.
I really do love it when in a romance book the hero is the one who wants more out of a relationship. So often times women are portrayed as wanting to “take the next step,” to “settle down,” to “cement the relationship.” So the fact that Mitch was the one wanting more was exciting and fun. What I loved that once he laid it all out for Anna she really didn’t shy away from his idea, she was open to it despite the fact that so many people in town feel the Thompson’s aren’t the best men. Anna even has a few moments where she realizes she saw Mitch’s tattoos and his bike and thought the worst of him and then she sets out to prove to everyone those assumptions are wrong.
These two together are hotter than hot and I love how Mitch is very willing to live out every one of Anna’s fantasies even those she’s not completely sure about. However it’s the fact that he wants to do normal couple things with her that really makes a girl want to say “awwww.” Yes, underneath that bad boy persona is a sweet hero which of course only makes him more desirable.
With Mitch’s reputation and Anna’s career things are bound to get a little messy and while I wanted to choke the person responsible for making them have doubts, I can help but smile when I think if Anna’s revenge. She is one smart lady and let’s just say the man who messed with them got what was coming to him in spades.
Thoroughly enjoyable, extremely sexy with a side of erotic and plenty of dirty fun both on and off the track make Rocky Ride another hit from Vivian Arend and a fantastic start to this series!

This is the second book I have read in this series and I thought I had loved the first one. This was such a tear tugging romance book, and the female main character had my heart within the first chapter.

So many of the characters seemed content to label her 'tight-laced' with a stick up her butt for the fact that she was a (career focused) female police officer who was damn good at her job. She faced predigest from her partner at the police station and the locals in her town.

Mitch had also struggled with predigest his entire life, covered with tattoos and owning a motorcycle had left him labelled a 'criminal' despite the fact that he was hard working and family orientated.

I loved this romance so much because Mitch was the one head over heels and Anna was hesitant to enter into the relationship. It was beautiful and kind of angsty, but filled with strong and caring characters. It was finally a romance novel where the relationship wasn't toxic or manipulative, they complimented each other beautifully.

Bless this series, enjoying it so much!

I'm a big fan of Vivian Arend's work. I've read a few of her series, my favourite by far being the Six Pack Ranch. Sexy cowboys, Canadian style! Thompson and Sons is a spinoff of this series, revolving around a family who live in the small town of Rocky Mountain House in Alberta. This first book is the story of bad-boy Mitch Thompson, tattooed biker, and Anna Coleman (cousin to the Six Pack Colemans) seemingly straight-laced RCMP officer. These two of course are not at all what they appear to be on the surface, and their story unfolds as they explore their secret desires and try to deal with their nosey small-town co-workers, family and neighbours.

While I enjoyed this book, I didn't really feel the connection between Anna and Mitch. Probably just me...the sex was certainly hot, and I liked both characters. Just didn't feel it though...and that's what has always made Ms. Arend's work special for me. Certainly not giving up on her...but will write this one off as a bit of a disappointment.

I originally downloaded this book because (A) it was free and (B) it was about a biker! This is seriously one of the best stories I have read in awhile. It's hot as hell from the get-go but it's a realistic in the way that things happen. It mimics a real relationship....no one is overly confident or whiny and they have realistic problems. And seriously...a cop and a biker!? What's not to love!? I can't wait to read the next book!

I read this novella as part of the Marked anthology.

Rocky Ride is the first story in Vivian Arend's new Thompson & Sons series which is a spin off from her Six Pack Ranch books. I haven't actually read any of the Six Pack Ranch books (I'm going to have to pick them up since I enjoyed this one so much though!) so although I believe both Mitch and Anna have made previous appearances I didn't have a problem reading their story as a stand alone. This was certainly a hot read and I'm definitely planning on reading the sequel, Baby Be Mine, soon.

In a lot of ways Mitch and Anna are complete opposites, Mitch is a mechanic at his family's garage who has a bit of a bad boy reputation while Anna is a police officer who loves her job more than anything. As it turns out Mitch doesn't really deserve his reputation, he may have tattoos and ride a motorbike but apart from a couple of pranks as a teenager he hasn't got into any trouble for years and is a hard working and genuine guy. The couple have been meeting up for a few months for incredibly hot sex but while Mitch wants more Anna is running scared. She worries about how Mitch's reputation could affect her career and she is scared of getting hurt by risking her heart.

I absolutely loved this couple, they are so perfect for each other and I really enjoyed seeing how Mitch convinces Anna to give him a chance. They have fabulous chemistry and are both quite creative when it comes to playing out their fantasies which makes things very interesting. This is definitely a new series to watch out for and one I'm looking forward to continuing.

I’m not quite sure why I had dragged my ass on starting this series. I think once the first book was out and I missed it I got lazy and forgot to go back. So when I saw this on Audible I snatched it right up and boy was I glad I did. ROCKY RIDE was the perfect companion for a relaxing night with a glass of wine. Sexy town bad boy, a little rough around the edges and a bit dirty, and good girl cop who likes to let lose and have fun with him. SOLD!

Let me warn you right now…the opening scene for this book is HOT. Mitch and Anna have some explosive sexual chemistry but for a while that’s all it’s been. Anna is mostly ok with that. Her life revolves around her rules and composure. In her workplace, with coworkers, with family, with society. But Mitch wants a lot more and isn’t afraid to show Anna they CAN be good outside of the bedroom (or car, or wherever…).

I was pleasantly surprised to see this is a spin off of my beloved Six Pack Ranch series. This is just their bike riding, grease sporting, bad boy counterparts, the Thompsons. And after this installment, I’m just ready to dive in a read them all!

This was an interesting read.....which I enjoyed, especially since it's about a police officer and a bikers. Anna is a female police officer, who falls heavily for a tattooed biker. This is so against what the community she polices, are expecting and want from a police officer. Mitch her Biker lover, loves her to bits, so much that he wants what is best for her career and sacrifices his relationship with her.

She has a sneaky bad cop..Nick who instigates the bad feeling within the community, for his own gratification as he want promotion.

This book is very corny and easy to read. It's a short enjoyable read and different because of the cop/ biker aspect. But I just wanted more. The escape was hot, but not hot enough for me, and there were just too many inconsistencies and what the hell moments for me. Mitch gets arrested, and Anne gets it all sorted as it's one big mistake. Mitch never appears to stand up for himself. I know he's supposed to be a nice guy, but oh come on!!!

REVIEW: 3.5 stars--ROCKY RIDE is the first installment in Vivian Arend’s adult, contemporary Thompson and Sons erotic romance series-a spin off from her Rocky Mountain House Series (Six Pack Ranch). This is RCMP officer Anna Coleman, and tattooed auto mechanic Mitch Thompson’s storyline. The Thompson and Sons series will focus on the Thompson Family.

Told from third person point of view ROCKY RIDE follows the ‘friends with benefits’ building relationship between Mitch and Anna-a story that finds Anna in direct conflict with a couple of her fellow officers. Mitch is the local mechanic; a good boy who looks bad-tattooed, pierced and all alpha male. Anna and Mitch’s relationship had remained secret; behind closed doors but Mitch wanted more. Mitch wanted to take their relationship public but in doing so caught the attention of the RCMP. ROCKY RIDE is a story about preconceived notions; judging someone based on appearances; and a betrayal that Anna will seek revenge in the coldest of ways. Small town life never looked so spiteful.

The relationship between our leading couple is erotic, seductive, provocative and intense. Their sexual energy is palpable; their attraction to one another off the charts; their need for one another finds our couple straddling the line of public displays. Mitch and Anna like to play games both in and out of the bedroom; and Mitch adds a little kink into their sexual fun with a little bit of bondage and discipline. A slight warning: there is one scene of voyeurism that does not quite lead to ménage, but for all intents and purposes, this particular part of the storyline felt disconnected and unnecessary. The application and intent was lost on this reader. Perhaps it was used to provoke a reaction or reader shock value.

The ensemble storyline includes many of the original series-ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOUSE-characters and couples. ROCKY RIDE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous series and storylines is revealed where necessary. Vivian Arend’s series focuses on the majestic Rocky Mountains of Canada-a perfect backdrop for any romance series.

ROCKY RIDE is an enjoyable read with a little bit of kinky sex, romance, friendship and love. There are moments of betrayal and revenge; heartbreak and sorrow. Mitch and Anna will get their happily ever after but the road to happiness is not without some difficult times.

Mitch has the reputation in their small town as being a bad boy. Anna is on their local police force. They say opposites attract, and these two are drawn together like magnets. The heat between them is intense, but so is the love. Mitch and Anna have been seeing other for a couple of months secretly. Mitch is tired of the hiding. He wants Anna and he wants to make it public. At first she's not sure, but once she's gives in to her fear and realizes she's shouldn't worry so much what people think, their relationship grows. But Anna's partner has other plans and causes trouble for them.

I loved Mitch. He's such a hot, yet sweet man. He's tattooed, pierced (yes exactly where you're thinking) and rides a bike. Plus he loves Anna so much and wants nothing more than to spend every moment he can with her. Anna is a great character as well. She blooms being around Mitch and he makes her so happy. They have some pretty steamy scenes too. The one where he pulls up on his bike on a dirt road while she's sitting in her car...WOW. Anna is a lucky lady.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I truly enjoyed it. It didn't effect my reading at all that I've not read the other series that this is apparently a spin off from. I'm looking forward to more of these books.

Mitch and Anna had been dancing around their attraction to each other for months before giving in. Mitch is a tattooed alpha male and Anna is a Constable with the RCMP and they could not be viewed any more differently by their appearances. Mitch has been going slow to Anna's sake and is ready to take their relationship public so they don't have to keep hiding. Anna agrees and they have some fun dates and times while each of them gets to work on their "wish" lists they made together. When one of Anna's co-workers, Nick, takes it upon himself to cause the couple to reevaluate their relationship it causes them to be apart for a while. When Anna finds out what exactly transpired, she is furious at Nick and upset that Mitch took it upon himself to think he knew what was best for her. Anna finally gets what she wanted in the end, but Mitch comes to realize that Anna is not someone you want to make mad at you. It was an easy read and the only downside I had with it is his siblings are mentioned in the book and there is no backstory as to what transpires with them in this book. You just get snippets and I felt that I didn't know them at all. Same with Anna's family and it got distracting at some points.

very good story, very hot as well. Mitch looks like a bad boy because he rides a motorcycle & is tatted all over his body & has a bad ass attitude. Anna is the dream in Mitch's life & also an RCMP officer at the local detachment. After meeting on the sly for months, Mitch decides that he wants to go public with his relationship with Anna because he has ideas of making this relationship very permanent. One problem Anna's partner feels that he is a detriment to her career & the look of their detachment so he devises a lie to get Mitch to stop seeing Anna. Months go by and the agony is of being apart is killing both of them until Anna learns of the lie & sets the record straight with Mitch. Anna lets him know that she's not happy with his control of her life & has a few things to decide before she takes him back. Will Anna let Mitch back into her life? Has Mitch learned a lesson about meddling in Anna's career & life? What happened to her partner after she found out his deception? Definite recommend & I really like the fact that this series is connected to the Rocky Mountain series.

Read this as an ARC of the MarkedMarked (Beyond, #3.5; Thompson & Sons, #1) by Lauren Dane anthology.

★★★☆☆½
Seemingly straight-laced RCMP Anna Coleman had been letting her hair down carrying on a secret, torrid no-strings-attached affair with tattooed, pierced bad boy Mitch Thompson who's not such a bad boy underneath.

Mitch decides he wants a full-fledged public relationship and works his wiles to get Anna to loosen up. Fun story.

I don't remember the tags for this specific story, other than it was m/f.

Not much of a story just a bunch of sex and little drama in it. I think the author has run out of issues for the couples to get through. I thought the issues in this one was lame. Nick’s reasons behind the little he did was the worst. I thought maybe we’d get a flip like he was interested in Nick himself or maybe he’s trying to get her fired for something she had no idea she did. Mitch could’ve had stalker problems or something that added a bit of excitement in this one but nothing. Alright read if you don’t have anything else.

Hot, sexy and a kick to read for new and old fans alike of author Vivian Arend this less than 200 page short story hits many high notes while the Epilogue showcases how devious a woman can be when getting her revenge.

Anna and Mitch are just about as good a match as one would expect from the pairing of a biker and a cop.

Mitch Thompson the ultimate bad boy looking to rattle Constable Anna Coleman cage. Loved every moment of this fun and wild ride from the not so quite to the coming out of their relationship. They are both so strong and fearsome that you are just waiting for the fireworks to explode around them. The merging of these two amazing families is also a great bonus in this story and makes it an excellent spin off.

Looking forward to more Thompson's

Sweet Read

I started reading about the Coleman crew a few years ago, always anxious for the next book. When the Thompsons first arrived in the stories I was intrigued. I was so happy when Vivian brought out the first book about the Thompson's now I'm hooked. Mitch and Anna have an unorthodox relationship but they are perfect for each other. I read this along with the audio and it was really great.

Flammable chemistry is fun, now Mitchh wants a relationship and see how they´d work together.
The unusal couple seem to work, if it wasn´t for prejudice and Anna´s partner Nick..
Smutty fluff and hot adventures in a great combo.
Can´t wait to read more from this series!!

Received an ARC for review

OH MY that's a way to start off a novella and a series. HAWT from the word go. I loved Mitch and Anna. Nick was a total douche bag. I'm gonna have to go back and read the Six Pack Ranch series cause I want to know more about Ashley and Cassidy.

I liked this story a lot. For a minute I worried it was going to go into over the top angst, but the conflict worked well and wasn't overdone IMO.

Not sure why this is tagged BDSM, yes handcuffs are involved but the heroine is an officer after all. I would call it 'kink' or BDSM light.

There is lots of smokin' hot sex in Rocky Ride; however, it is so light on plot that it didn't keep my interest. I will not continue with the series.
