York, May 1275. As folk from all over England gather in York for the annual Whitsun Market Fair, a killer stalks the market, striking down a disparate trio of victims with an a wealthy fur merchant, a penniless vagrant, and a local woman. Matthew Cordwainer, King's Coroner of York, must discover what the three have in common if he is to determine who the murderer might be. And when he does, will he be willing to risk the life of his only biological son to capture the killer?

The Whitsun Market takes place once a year in York. It is the time when the merchants come up from London to buy from all the local producers – a sort of medieval Black Friday. So, when a serial killer strikes, it is imperative that the Sheriff of York and Matthew Cordwainer, the King's Coroner, find the culprit before the market is further disrupted.
I enjoyed this book, the market was fascinating and the mystery stellar. The writing was excellent and the involvement of Matthew's son was a treat. Markets were major economic drivers in these towns and thieving pervasive. While Matthew is slowing down, his brain and logic are in great shape. He learns how to lean more on others. Enjoy
I love Lionarons whole Cordwainer series. While reading a fascinating story, I learn about the life of ordinary people during medieval times. I can't wait for the next book.
