How do I tell the alien who saved me from smugglers that I want him as more than a best friend?
I was abducted off Earth, my DNA was altered to fit the characteristics of another species, and I was almost sold off to the highest bidder.
That was my life before Phial saved me. My rescue was a group effort, of course, but only one of the crew came on board the smuggling ship to cradle me softly in his scaled arms and promised me nothing bad would ever happen to me again.
When some of the alterations of my DNA have us staying on a planet better suited to helping me, I start to heal. It's slow at first but grows over time. As I heal, I realize there's only one male I want–the scrawny lizard man who makes too many jokes and blames his deity for anything annoying he does.
I can't deny my feelings for much longer. The only thing holding me back is that I don't know if Phial wants me, too, or if my feelings for him will ruin the friendship we've built with one another.
Morgan Robinson writes paranormal and science fiction romances about sweet monsters, usually of the alien variety. Strong, alpha heroes have always been interesting to her, but there needed to be a sweet and caring side as well. So while the heroes of her stories might be gigantic monsters with horns and scales, they're stuffed full of fluff and sweetness. Her novels contain plenty of steam, fluffy romance, and sometimes more than one MMC.
Morgan lives with her husband and her two dogs. When she's not writing about an alien warrior finding true love with a human, she's being carried in video games, reading lots and lots of romance novels, or rewatching classic slasher films.
4.5 ⭐️ Phial and Avery were like the world’s worst communicators. They both cared about each other, but Avery was dropping discreet hints about wanting more and Phial was overly solicitous and dense when it came to her. He was a total shit stirrer as well and a stalker. I kind of loved him. I liked that the author gave Avery time to work through trauma instead of an “I’ve been cured by love” scenario. Looking forward to the next one!
Spice: 5/5
Triggers: flashbacks, discussion of trafficking and involuntary body modification, references to torture, stalking, mentions of SA of others, forced sterility, discussion of death and murder (vague)
Please note this is an ARC review that was so kindly given to me by the author in exchange for my honest opinion 🩷
Where do I even start with this book. Phial was incredibly patient and sweet. Definitely slow when it came to reading the room or getting any of the hints that he should have (in regards to Avery). Avery was a real pleasure. After all the trauma she experienced in her life, the fact that she's even able to come out the other side and still keep going is incredible, but then the fact that she trusts anyone else, especially in more intimate ways had me rooting for her. The relationship between Avery and Phial was sugary sweet, starting off as 'friends' who grew into more (even if there were some definite growing pains and more than a few times I smacked my own forehead in frustration over them). And the spice?? 🫣🥵 All I will say is we love a male who is a dirty talker. Overall though their chemistry was perfect and I really enjoyed my time with this book. Watching them emotionally trip over one another until they were able to find their footing was just so much fun🩷
Ok, I loved this book! This was Avery’s healing journey and I absolutely gobbled it up. Her fears and the way she struggled to accept the changes that were made to her body against her will were well written. And Phial! I loved him and the way he couldn’t help but do a little light stalking. He was there for Avery every step of the way! I’m not a huge fan of miscommunication but it was dealt with in a way that, for me, added to the story. And resolved by the halfway point. The steam in this book 💦 starts off slow and innocently enough with a nice long make out session but by the end it definitely ratchets up to 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Now if I could also get a story about the side character Skia I will be so happy. I was very intrigued by him. Overall, loved this one. Will definitely be reading the first two books in this series and so happy to have found a new author to get into!
*I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for the opportunity to revise this book.
3.3 stars. I liked it. Phial is pretty funny and I really liked being in his head. And I do appreciate the outside observer letting both of them know my same thoughts in the middle there. They Were being idiots and thank you for being sane.
🤷🏻♀️ It was fun, but also kind of missing something for me. In the smut and in the relationship. The smut was just kind of rushed and a little repetitive for me. And the relationship I’m not sure I can explain what it was that wasn’t there. I just know it wasn’t. Which is kind of crazy cause I actually really enjoyed them together.
Gleeful Goblin Review: This book is such a lovely tribute to tr@um@ recovery and the importance of having people you trust around you when you're finding yourself again. Our MMC Phial is a big feathered and scaly cinnamon roll of an alien who is pretty irrevocably in love with his crewmate and our FMC Avery. Now, he won't admit that to himself for a hot minute and I think he does a phenomenal job of going at Avery's pace and signals, but yeah, buddy is hopeless and I love it. "The dome nest in the middle of the room takes up most of the space. The glass that makes up the dome is still clear all the way through, so Avery can see her nest just as she left it. It's filled with all of the blankets and pillows from when I used to sleep in there, but now there are more of my feathers in it. I never was one to mark a nest in that way, but then Avery started staying in it, and I had to make sure she knew whose nest she was staying in. I tell myself it's so my friend knows she's safe and is reminded of me when she wakes from her nightmares. "If you need anything, you let me know," I tell Avery as she crawls through the small entrance into the dome. I crawl on top, making myself comfortable right in the center, curling my body over it and resting my head on my forearms. Avery curls up underneath me and doesn't fog the glass to give herself privacy. No, she rests her head against one of my pillows and drifts off to sleep without another word to me. I crawl over the dome a little, placing my face right above hers, watching as her chest rises and falls with her steady breaths of sleep. I stare at her like that for a long time, way longer than is right. I don't stop until my body starts to feel tired, and I finally move back to the center of the dome and close my eyes." That part literally made me say Awwww out loud while reading it. There are misunderstandings and assumptions that cause bumps along the way, but Phial is a sweetheart through and through so it was easy to root for that happily ever after for these.
Something I loved about this story is that while love and friendship are huge parts of recovery for Avery, she also goes to therapy which I LOVED. The journey that Avery and Phial go on together is relatable, sweet, and satisfying. I had a wonderful time with this book and I look forward to re-reading it soon. 5/5 Stars.

Avery was aliennapped and her DNA altered to an alien species called the Rytharian. They go through heats On the last day of her heat she finds sanctuary for Rytharian females. Phial is a Sytharian male. He allowed Avery to hide away in his cabin when she went throught her heat. He was the one to rescue her. They are friends. But he wants more but figures she won't accept him as more than a friend. He isn't like a Rytharian. He has feathers and is smaller than a Rytharian. He will go invisible to keep an eye on Avery when she is away from him. She stays in his cabin. She feels safer with him. Avery has a secret which finally comes out. Her father is the one to traffic her because she was undercover to find evidence against him. Now it's time for her to go back to earth to testify at his trial. But she needs the therapist and she needs to learn how to be near a male again without going into meltdown. When Phial finds out she is going to choose a male he goes and volunteers. Avery decides she will choose him because that would be a way to be with him because she trusts him. It's interesting that all those around him seem to know what it is he feels for other even though he convinces himself she needs a friend and he'll take that position. She chooses him because she wants to see if he just sees her as a friend or if it could be something more. The crew will need to prepare after her next heat to head back to Earth for her to testify. So head to Earth they do while Avery is learning how to handle her heats and being near males again. Will Phial finally figure out he is his own worst enemy? Will her father try to do something to keep her from testifying against him? An amazing story with angst and action.

This book dives into Avery and Phial’s story as they navigate shifts in their ship’s crew dynamics and confront the lingering nightmares of their pasts—obstacles that seem determined to keep their relationship in the "just friends" zone. Phial, a persistent and protective male, keeps a watchful eye on his best friend Avery, engaging in light stalking (with good intentions) to ensure her safety while they recover on a planet with their ever-evolving crew. Avery’s genetically modified body presents unique challenges, especially without a romantic partner, forcing her to confront her deep-seated trauma head-on. The story brims with that sweet, sweet mutual pining between best friends who clearly want more but struggle to take the leap and communicate their feelings. While plot-light and character-heavy, the book shines with its exploration of their evolving relationship. There is some light miscommunication trope at play, which is not always a favorite, but I felt it was not dragged on for too long which was nice. And it was incredibly wholesome seeing how much these two care for each other. With plenty of spice, emotional healing, and personal growth, the most compelling aspect is seeing these wounded characters fight for and ultimately earn their happy ending. I love a good found family story, and this fits the bill! A fun read for anyone who loves a good friends to lovers book with some spicy alien romance intertwined.
Avery, the female previously human lead, was recovered from traffickers in a previous story in the series. Forcibly genetically adjusted, and traumatised by her experience, Phial, the male alien lead, has been providing support and comfort to her. However, the adjustments that were made to her have serious and ongoing repercussions and Avery is attempting to overcome her trauma and get strategic help in handling her new genetics.
Both Avery and Phial are attracted to each other but they value their friendship so highly that neither is willing to overstep. But this reluctance is causing both of them, especially Avery, distress. Can they overcome their fears?
And can Avery hold herself together enough to testify against those responsible for her abduction?
This story is dual POV, well written, and a darker themed, steamy, alien/human, sci fi romance. I enjoyed Phial’s patience and chuckled at some of his obsessive behaviours. I enjoyed Avery’s growing mental strength and the work she put into overcoming her trauma. I particularly appreciated the acknowledgment that professional help was needed and provided. I enjoyed the found family of the ship’s crew and the support they provided to the lead characters. I’m enjoying this world the author has built, and looking forward to more. I enjoyed the teaser for a future couple that the story finished with.

This is the first book I have read from this series and author, and I was pleasantly surprised! Overall, this was such a cute story. Although the pacing was slightly slow to my liking, I quite enjoyed the worldbuilding, and it became particularly interesting when the story expanded beyond the spaceship or the Rytharian planet. As a sci-fi enthusiast, I'm always eager to learn more about the system and other species. In addition, the characters and their backgrounds were well developed, and I liked how the author took the time to unfold the romance between the main characters.
Speaking of the main characters, Avery and Phial were such a sweet couple. For all the trauma and events that Avery went through (from the past to present), she remained brave, kind, and resilient, which was perfectly complemented by Phial's loyalty, gentleness, and selflessness. Moreover, they felt relatable to me as a couple, as they remind me of my partner due to the similarities they shared with Phial. Finally, the spicy scenes were hot and passionate.
I WOULD RECOMMEND IF 📒
If you're looking for a sweet and spicy alien romance novel with featured themes such as "slow burn," "friends to lovers," "found family," "light stalking," "tail play," "double peen," "nesting," and "HEA," then this is the book for you.

"It's okay," Phial says softly. His hiss is a calming sound since I'm used to hearing it from how much time we spend together. "You're safe. I'm never letting anything happen to you again." 'I don't miss how it's ironic that the only male I want to touch me is the only one who I'm pretty sure never will unless I ask him. Something I'm not going to do because this friendship is worth so much more than whatever fantasy I concocted in the throes of my heat.'
I loved this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. While I've loved this series from the start, this book is my favorite so far. I always loved Phial and was excited for his turn at romance. I appreciated the beginning summary to refresh my memory of what happened before this. Avery still suffers trauma and fear from what she'd experienced. She wants to be in control of herself and do what she wants, but when an encounter reminds her of the ones who hurt her she freezes and locks up. Phial was so sweet, caring, and patient with her. I loved the bond they formed and their friendship. I really admired Avery's journey in this book through healing, trusting, bonding with others, and falling in love. I loved all the crew of course, and this book was a pleasure to read.
And I have to say- I LOVE the cover of this book! There is a quality of beauty, reassurance, and passion in it and I keep going back to look at it.
Avery's (h) life was shattered when she was abducted, genetically altered, and sold by intergalactic human traffickers slavery by her own father to help cover his involvement in the trafficking. Rescued by the Pleasure Crew, a group of misfit heroes, Avery is free, but far from whole. Haunted by trauma and forced to endure monthly heats after having been genetically altered with Rytharian-like traits imposed on her body, Avery struggles to find stability, trust, and a path forward. Phial (H), her devoted crewmate, has always been by her side, protective, patient, and silently yearning for something more. As Avery begins to reclaim her autonomy, she has to decide if she can risk letting someone in, especially someone as steadfast as Phial. Their bond deepens as they navigate not just the physical challenges of Avery’s condition but also the emotional scars that run deep. When Avery is called on to publicly face her darkest fears, Phial and her found family aboard the Pleasure Crew help Avery discover her inner strength, a capacity for love she thought she’d lost forever, and a future worth fighting for. Hot and steamy friends to lovers, alien-human sci-fi romance, exploring love, connection, survival, healing, overcoming adversity, trust, found family, commitment, self-discover, support, and rebuilding a life on your own terms.
Avery's installment of the Pleasure Crew series will give alien and monster romance readers a fun new world to dive into.
This was my first time reading a book from this series, but that didn't make understanding Phial and Avery's story difficult to get into. With brief history recaps scattered around, I understood the depth of Avery's trauma since she was abducted and alter against her will. And the deep affection and care Phial has for her.
This is technically an alien romance but I would go as far as to say it also counts as a friends to lovers story. Specific circumstances lead Avery and Phial towards an "intimate" relationship a little sooner than I believe they would've eventually ended up in on their own.
Phial turned out to be more fun to read than I thought he would be. He can be serious and protective of Avery but he's equally as a self-conscious, shy, cinnamon roll with a kinky mind who loves worshiping Avery and giving her whatever she needs.
Also--if other readers start with this book, there's an epilogue that covers Phial's past and how he came to be where he is today. It sounded pretty interesting and it made me want to go back to the first two books in this series to see those details first hand.
Thanks to the author for allowing me to join the arc team to read this book💜.
Pleasure Crew:Avery begins another entertaining journey of romantic discovery with the spaceship crew of the Jolly Folly. I was happy to read Avery and Phial’s story as I couldn’t wait to find out if they ended up together. If you have been following the crews adventures you’ll remember Avery was the woman saved from a group of human smugglers. Traumatized from her time with them and having her DNA, and body altered to that of an alien Rytharian female so she would go thru heat cycles was just one of the atrocities forced on her. For Avery the only crew member aboard the Jolly Folly who she felt safe with became Sytharian male Phial. After entering a heat cycle the crews only recourse is to bring her to the planet Rythar were she can join other of their females to get through the cycle without mating. Phial’s kindness and humor have endeared him to Avery who has begun to feel more than friendship for the lizard like alien. But does he feel the same towards her? Theirs was another nicely written series entry that was a tantalizing read filled with spice, romance, emotion, and well developed characters who made this an immersive read.

Avery's story picks up where K'vella's ends. You don't have to read the previous 2 to read Avery and Morgan always includes a wonderful "previosuly" prior to Chapter 1, but to really get deep in the feels, I highly suggest reading Sloane and K'vella first. Morgan has quickly become one of my favorite alien authors. The Pleasure Crew world is so fun! She does a wonderful job world building without dragging it out and boring you (me to some of those thicc fantasy books 00) We meet Avery in Sloane and K'vella's stories so we have a little bit of backstory on her trauma. We also meet Phial who is part of the Folly Jolly crew. Phial rescues Avery from a trafficking ship and moving forward never leaves her side. I thoroughly enjoyed watching a friendship grow and heal into something beautiful. There's some humor, some sadness, and some bumps in the road on their journey. Learning how these 2 got to be where they are, I did not see Avery's backstory coming! This was my favorite of the 3 books in the series so far. Bonus points for Phial's dirty talk and 2 eggplants.

Morgan Robinson is a great author and time and time again she does not disappoint with her books. This one involves Avery that you are briefly introduced to in the second book. Avery was abducted and forced to undergo changes to her DNA that cause her to go into heats similar to Rythrian females. She ends up being saved by the crew of the Jolly Folly luckily and Phial allows her to stay in his room in his nest where she feels safe. She has been through so much in a short time and has loads of trauma to show for it. To help her through some of her pain and trauma they take her to Rythar that has a sanctuary for females that can assist her. However, as time goes on Phial goes out of his way to ensure that she is safe even finding himself willing to stay in the friendzone if he can be close to her. As time goes on their bond grows and tensions start to rise, will Phial and Avery choose to become a couple or is it too late for them?
It had to have been traumatic to have not only be abducted but also altered by your captors and then sold. She was fortunate in that rescue came. The Pleasure Crew liberated her from her captors but she still has lots of adjusting to do because of the changes they made to her DNA. She is fortunate that Phial is among the crew and they become friends as he helps her not only deal with the physical changes and challenges she is adjusting to but also the emotional challenges she faces. Phial becomes a trusted friend that eventually becomes so much more than a friend. Their romance is a testament to how the Pleasure Crew community and Phial in particular helps her to more than she seemed destined for when she was captured.

Avery is still trying to get over her recent experience, abducted and her DNA altered to a Rytharian which experiences heats. She was rescued by Phial who became her hero, promising he would not let anything like this happen again. He has done so much to make her feel safe. And as a result of his kind nature and support, she has definitely fallen for him. They are both comfortable with their friendship. But soon, she will be compelled to ask for more than that. And the only thing holding her back, is the fear that loving him may destroy their friendship. Will she admit what she is ready for now? Or will she remain quiet and continue to hold back her feelings out of a foolish fear? Will she realize that if the friendship is already strong, as it appears to be, it is not going to fracture because two friends fall in love?
This is the third book in this series! The first two were absolutely fabulous and now you have Phial with Avery. I wasn't really too crazy about the reptile but hey that is what happens when Love is in the air. Now the stalker behavior, well, not stalkerish but the very over the top behavior of trying to make sure Avery is more secure I give a thumbs up. You have to read the first two books and then you'll see why the third book is so great! There's not too many single beings on this pleasure cruise now. There might be one or two that might get another one, but I can't wait if there's another addition to the series!.

I loved this book, although I regret starting from part 3 in the series. I will have to go back to the beginning and start things properly :D Having said that, I really enjoyed the story and the characters. At no point did I want to shout 'nooo, don't do it/ don't go there!', etc. Great story progression, fast paced, no boring moments and a lot of spice and humour. I also really enjoyed the all-so-different and colourful characters. If I ever get abducted and mistreated in the space, I'll hope for Phial and a happy ending with him.

This was a great addition to the series and a fab romance for Avery and Phial. I love how he was there for Avery in every step of her healing journey and that she was able to recover from her experiences to want to have love and intimacy with Phial. He was a sweetheart and I got a kick out of how he was terrible at reading the room but he was like a safe stalker to her to make sure she was truly ok. Definitely expect a slow burn, and some really frustrating moments between them, but know that the heat is hot with dirty talking when it kicks in ;P Well written, with all the feels, I really enjoyed how this one unfolded. Definitely looking forward to more books for this series :D
This book is excellent. It's part of the Pleasure Crew series. You don't need to have read the previous books, but doing so enhances your understanding of how the alien worlds function in these stories. Avery was rescued from an alien trafficking ring after her father sold her. Phail, the alien who rescued her, took her back to his nest on board the Folly Jolly ship. The development of the relationship between Phail and Avery is both sweet and steamy. The plot is outstanding, and the ship has many fun and quirky characters. Fantastic book!

From a traumatic introduction to the Jolly Folly crew, Avery is healing. Phial has been there every step of the way, keeping her safe and listening, even when she couldn’t understand his responses. But now, Avery needs help with her monthly heats - Can Phial be there for her? I love the universe the Pleasure Crew series takes place in, and the crew of the Jolly Folly are a blast. This story really focused on Avery and Phial so we saw less of the others, which really drew me deeply into their story and their emotions. I can’t wait to find out what happens next in this universe!
I have never read a Morgan Robinson book in less than one sitting due to the sheer fact that I cannot put them down, and this was no exception. I loved the dynamic between Phial and Avery, and any fan of friends to lovers arcs is going to feel the same. The romance is sweet, the pacing keeps you pulled in, and the humor, as always, tickles my funny bone. I can’t wait to read more in the Pleasure Crew series. There’s something very cozy about them!.

Y'all I've been looking forward to Avery's book since she was introduced in book 1. And this did not disappoint! It was a delicious slow burn as Avery and Phial figured out what was between them--and made a lot of blunders along the way. The "idiots in love" trope was in full swing here and I loved every minute of it.
I really enjoy how this series makes the nonhuman species' cultures feel alive and lived-in. I loved what a giant goober Phial is. I can't wait for Essa's book, and maybe another character's...?
I love how the characters (all of them) are pretty consistent throughout the entire series. Albeit they do grow and accept one another which I also love.
I'm also a sucker for found family tropes and smut lol
I love the progression and healing we see with Avery and that we get more into Phial's mindset in this book. I really loved the dynamic between the two (hurt/traumatized FMC x caring/loyal MMC).
Overall I'm hoping the author does another book following Helna and Skia (the sombran) because alien x alien smut is so rare in the sci-fi smut scene imo.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Phial is a lizard looking alien and Avery is a human who was spliced with alien DNA to have heats. They’re friends from the previous book.
Avery is taken to a sanctuary for women to experience their heats away from men. She then goes to therapy because of her SA trauma and the therapist recommends exposure therapy. Phial agrees to help out. He dirty talks and they take it slow. There’s TONS of miscommunication and lack of communication which is frustrating, but they do end up together. There’s tail action.
Bonus points for a HEA with a 10 years later epilogue with NO KIDS.
Avery and Phial's story was encapturing, as a massive fan of mutual pining and misunderstandings as tropes this book was a great example of them! Phial was understanding and sweet (if not a little sexy stalker) and Avery was written tastefully and realistically. I liked that she was written as more than her trauma, it's important that portrayals of survivors (even in sci-fi settings) be as accurate as possible. I loved the friends-to-lovers aspect too, that Phial was someone she trusted and cared for above anyone else and their romance didn't feel rushed either! Overall another enjoyable pleasure crew book with great settings and even greater characters.
First, I want to say I adore it when an alien actually LOOKS like an alien and not just a fancy human. It adds to the spice for me. I absolutely adored this book. Robinson is a master of the sci-fi romance and I'm so excited to see more monstrous love interests even though I really, really adored the other two books.

This is the second book of the series that I have read. I did miss the very first book and I enjoyed it. I did enjoy how the author was able to create simularities. However, allow it to be a completely separate book. This did lend to a great reading experience in while part of a series, it could be read as a standalone.

This is an enjoyable, well-written, and interesting installment in the Pleasure Crew series. I've liked all the books, and I liked Phial from book one, so I was excited to see how the story with Avery would play out after book 2. This did not disappoint. Do yourself a favor and read them all.
