From USA Today Bestselling Author Kat Savage, comes a brand-new spinoff Family of Misfits! If you fell in love with the found family in the Men of Bird's Eye series, travel south to Nashville, where the second studio location is up and running under the management of a familiar face with a new crew of artists!
Ridge Jessup is many things—an award-winning tattoo artist with celebrity clientele, the manager of the Bird’s Eye Tattoo Studio Nashville location… oh, and a thirty-five-year-old single father to a rowdy little girl.
With work getting busier, convention season coming up, and his daughter booted from her third daycare this month, he’s in desperate need of summer help. Forget about having a personal life or dating—he’s just trying to survive.
Darcy Anderson is a handful of credits short of her degree and broke. The college fund her grandmother left her didn’t withstand the test of time or inflation.
When she sees an ad for a summer nannying job, it seems perfect—one kid, weekdays only, and compensation well above average. It almost seems too good to be true.
The moment Ridge lays eyes on Darcy, he really doesn’t want to give her the job. She’s hot, smart, and funny—a dangerous combination that feels disastrous—especially with the ten-year age gap between them. But of all the candidates interviewed, his daughter only likes her. It's a real dilemma.
Despite his best efforts to keep their relationship professional, things get hot and heavy as complications continue to mount. Darcy finds herself torn—her practical brain still preparing for the perfectly planned future she envisioned for herself while her fairytale-loving heart is looking to override everything for a single dad and his little girl she doesn't want to walk away from.
Kat Savage’s unique brand of storytelling combines some of her own truths with a little bit of fiction to connect to people in a very real way. She writes about ugly things authentically and shamelessly.
🩵Age Gap (25/35) 💛Single Dad x Nanny 🩵He’s a Tattoo Artist 💛She’s a Grad StudenT 🩵He Falls First 💛One Bed/Hotel Room 🩵Found Family
Before I forget...I'm a sucker for a good "He crawls to her" moment, and this one was so delicious!
I'm usually not a big fan of the single dad/nanny trope, but Darcy isn’t your typical nanny. She’s a grad student just nannying for the summer before classes start again, which makes it feel fresh enough to work for me. She's got her eye on the prize and it's not nailing down a hot single dad.
Ridge is such a wonderful father and man. He just needs a little support. Lou is a headstrong, spirited little girl I honestly want to be friends with. She’s amazing, and I love that he never tries to dim her light. He just needs someone who can keep up with her energy, and Darcy fits that perfectly.
Darcy and Ridge are instantly drawn to each other, and they fight it for as long as they can. When things finally reach a boiling point, the sparks fly. Once the spice kicked in—wow, it was hot. And the angst? So freaking good.
I also really appreciated that the story ended with a HFN (happy for now) instead of a full-on HEA. There's no doubt these two are endgame, but the HFN felt right for their journey so far.
I can't wait to read more from this series because you just know LYRIC'S book is going to be off the chain!
Huge thanks to Kat and The Author Agency for the ARC!
Sad to say this was not the book for me, if you loved it, great, but for me it was a nope. Thank you to TAA and Kat for the e-arc.
I didn’t feel any chemistry between the MCs. They also had some really cringy lines, with and without pop culture references, that made the disconnect worse.
Darcy is 25 but acts like she’s 18 and just starting college, she sounds immature in terms of “I don’t feel like I’m adulting, what with having a roommate and my ex still texting me”…girl the roomage thing in this economy is plausible up to 40 yrs old (if not more) and the ex thing? Are you serious? Those come back even when you are 100, using an ouija board or morse code from the after life. And to make matters worse, she gets black out drunk the first free weekend she has, but before that she messages him because she’s drunk and dealing with her not so nice ex…that all sounds to me like immaturity.
Ridge had the potential to be hot, but his “she’s honey and I’m a naughty bear” line put me off massively. That and the fact that he’s 35 but acts like an insecure teenager… “I left my wallet, my sketch book and coffee at home…but I’m not going back in because what would she think of me?” Really?
And I’m not an expert on kids and what they can and can’t do at certain ages, but you are telling me that Lou can’t read and it’s going into kindergarten but she’s a passionate activist that recruits signatures and frees animals, while also attempting veganism and watching documentary? Either Lou is brilliant, on the spectrum or older than we know.
"Dad, did you know male seahorses will eat their babies?!" "Don't worry, sweetheart. I would never eat you."
“And I thought about using him as a coloring book or letting him use me as a sex slave or maybe both if he's down—"
I didn't hate but I didn't exactly love it. The characters are okay, the plot sure, it's okay as well. But a 5 year old who speaks like a thirty year old is weird.
If you like a short novel about a single dad who falls for the nanny, you have a nice book to lose yourself for a day.
Thank you The Author Agency for providing the ARC. All opinions are my own.
This was my first time reading Kat Savage and after doing a little sleuthing on social media I understand her style a lot better. LOL Here’s the thing, the writing felt choppy to me. It was very matter-of-fact instead of being flowy. It was quirky and so was the language used. That’s what it felt like to me, and I wasn’t really getting it at first. That’s when the sleuthing began lol and you know what I figured out? I get the sense that Kat herself is a little bit quirky and since she’s the author, of course her style is going to be quirky … feel me? Like it could have been because of bad editing or bad betas, but I’m convinced that it isn’t any of that and it’s just who she is so that’s her style & voice! Still feeling me? LOL Now, just because I figured out Kat’s secret sauce to her writing doesn’t mean all of a sudden it all came together for me, and me and this book lived happily ever after. (but we did lol) I’m just pointing out my growing pains :)
So, okay, at first that whole thing above was getting in the way but I kept going and I don’t know when it happened, but I got invested. I got invested in this young grad student with a huge heart and the best inner monologues with herself. I got invested in this single dad with the weight of the world on his shoulders whose love for his daughter was bigger than his heart could hold and who also made me LOL with his inner monologues! I got invested in a tiny human who stood up for all the creatures who couldn’t stand for themselves and who was smarter and more centered than most adults I know! I had BIG love-energy for these three and they entertained me at every turn! I enjoyed them and I enjoyed their story and now I’m looking forward to everyone’s story!
✨️ Thank you to Kat Savage and The Author Agency for this ARC for my honest review! This was a fun breath of fresh air. I fell for Ridge and his little girl Lou so quickly. I definitely recommend it to my friends who love a sweet single dad romance. It was short enough to read in one day, and it had a nice slow-burn ❤️🔥!
The book had started off great but then it crashed into the ground. Why? Because everything. It started off with comedy, the ML's daughter shows autism symptoms but apparently she's just in kinder garten? Why is she acting like she's 10-12 years old? How does she just know everything and want these two to date so he can be happy? And the thing is everybody in this book acts unlike their age. This was supposed to be an age gap trope but they act like high schoolers, the chemistry between them wasn't appealing. They've masturbated to each other multiple times after meeting each other just ONCE? The FL just came out of an abusive relationship yet she acts so naive.
The ML is a good looking ethical fuckboy who had a child with a hookup and somehow even in this there is no conflict at all because The hookup and him were great friends and her family was ok with it too. And they welcomed him in too. ML never told the truth to his daughter about him and the mom because she's too young to understand so he let's her think they were in a loving relationship. Which is uhh...diabolical to me. 💀 Imagine finding out the truth about your parents like that.
The character is in his mid thirties and yet he never was in a serious relationship and apparently this is his first one? Yet he's this perfect green flag boyfriend? How does that work?
In the middle of the story she "finally" blocks her abusive ex, but somewhere later in the story he's texting her again? Huh? What a major plot hole.
Tbh, the ex himself was the plot. If ML didn't have to be so alpha sigma all the time, the story wouldn't really progress. The story barely had any ups and downs, just whys and hows. Upto 60% ish the story is meh. Is their town so small that it only consists of like four people? Why is her abusive ex EVERYWHERE? 𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙏𝙮𝙡𝙚𝙧 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙨𝙪𝙘𝙝 𝙖 𝙜𝙤𝙙𝙙𝙖𝙢𝙣 𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙚? 𝙉𝙤, 𝙝𝙚’𝙨 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙖 𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙚. 𝙃𝙚’𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙖 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙣 𝙖 𝙨𝙬𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙮 𝙜𝙪𝙮’𝙨 𝙗𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙨𝙖𝙘𝙠. My eyes and brain cells hurt when I read this sentence.
Nothing interesting, I'm reading it with hope that it gets better. But nope, after that there is JUST SMUT AND SO MUCH CRINGE SMUT. “𝙊𝙝, 𝙝𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙮,” 𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙮𝙨, 𝙢𝙤𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙜𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙚𝙚𝙩𝙝. 𝙃𝙞𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙨 𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙯𝙚 𝙢𝙮 𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙡𝙤𝙗𝙚. “𝙈𝙮 𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙝𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙮.” 𝙃𝙚 𝙝𝙪𝙢𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙤𝙛 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙩. “𝙈𝙮 𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙮-𝙨𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜.” WHAT IS THIS
The ML's friends are so hot and the FL is describing them so sexually it gave me a massive ick. 𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙝𝙚 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝘽𝙖𝙣𝙠𝙨, 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚’𝙨 𝙖 𝙡𝙤𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙨𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙖 𝙞𝙣 𝙢𝙮 𝙢𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝙨𝙪𝙙𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙡𝙮. 𝙃𝙚’𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚, 𝙨𝙤 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙮. 𝙈𝙖𝙮𝙗𝙚 𝙩𝙤𝙤 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙮. 𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙩𝙘𝙝 𝙖𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙙𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙍𝙚𝙙 𝙎𝙚𝙖 𝙖𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙢𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙤𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙪𝙨. 𝙅𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙬𝙤 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙥𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙢𝙚𝙣, 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮’𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙤𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙤𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙨—𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙙𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙗𝙤𝙮𝙨 𝙬𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙜𝙤 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙖𝙨𝙚𝙗𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙨, 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙨 𝙖 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙥 𝙤𝙛 𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙗𝙪𝙩𝙩𝙤𝙣-𝙪𝙥𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙩𝙨. 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙝𝙖𝙩? 𝘼 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙗𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙎𝙩𝙚𝙩𝙨𝙤𝙣. 𝙉𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙄 𝙨𝙖𝙮 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚? Yes because tattooed men never hurt people right?
All of them are this sexy perverted alpha bros. Once again, they all talk as if they're high schoolers who can't keep it in their pants but they're so sigma because they protect the ladies before they fuck them. They're having SO MUCH SEX I was sick of it. And it was so casual? He just asks her to take her clothes off and she does it? Girl DIDN'T YOU JUST COME OUT OF AN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP?? When they finally talk about the relationship, there is absolutely no conflict at all? And somehow this guy knows everything about how harmful birth control is, he has no issue with her moving in, her going to college etc. Because he can apparently handle the extra work load. BROTHER THEN WHY DID YOU NEED A BABY SITTER THIS WHOLE TIME??
This whole story was a boring, flat smutty mess and I dont see myself continuing the rest of the series.
This book has a walking green flag that smells like a sunny day wrapped in a warm hug. Or maybe the soft smell from just freshly washed clothes with a light detergent? Either way Ride is a man who you’d want to bed you down then promptly marry you. Ridge has a wonderful daughter named Lou short for Louise who is an absolute delight even though her track record for day care is less than stellar.
Lou stole my heart with her thoughtfulness, spot on responses to the adults in her life and her hyper awareness of the environment and climate change. We need more adults like her. She was a joy to read and it reminds me of the little lights that are growing up now. What kind of impact they will have on our world. Lou you’re going to be a rebel with a cause and have a hug heart.
Darcy is figuring out her life. You know when you’re on the precipice of finishing your degree and you’ve gotta scramble to figure out how to pay for it? Yeah, me too. Darcy applies on a nanny site and her application is chosen to meet up with Ridge. The plan was to save up the money over the summer to pay her tuition so she can graduate with her Master’s in Education. & we all know education is not cheap. Enter Ridge, who needs a nanny with a special touch for his extraordinary child.
The Single Dad Dilemma showcases two people who found each other when they needed them the most and it blossomed into much more. Neither were looking for someone, in fact both had pretty much sworn off the dating scene to focus on their own endeavors; Darcy finishing school and Ridge raising his child.
I loved this story from the start. It grabs you by the hem of your shirt and takes you on a wonderful ride of how to interact with children who remind you of Sheldon Cooper & shows you how a found family doesn’t always have the cookie cutter look.
"She brings order to my house and chaos to my heart."
I was so excited when I heard about this book, cause I have loved the 'Bird's eye men' series sooo much, and it was good to return into this world but in a different location and with different characters!!! This was Ridge's story, a tattoo artist/a single father of a young, but very clever daughter and Darcy's, a college student who wanted to focus on her last year of studies, but she needed money and she was about to become a nanny...
Ridge was struggling since his troublemaker daughter couldn't stay in any kindergarden because her beliefs were very vocal and beyond her years... The only solution was to find a nanny for when he was away to work... Darcy had her own struggles... She needed money for her tuition and she needed them fast... So, she is interviewing for a nanny position and she is finding it on Ridge's home... She is the perfect girl for this position, but the lines are getting blurred from both sides very often...
I liked Ridge and Darcy and I liked their story.... It was adorable, even though things were moving too fast between them... I liked Ridge as a father... He was an awesome parent and his love for his daughter was incredible!!! Also he knew how to treat a lady and for very early on, he was treating Darcy so beautifully!!! So, it's not a surprise that Darcy got pulled under his spell!!! This girl was incredible with Lou and she was adorable when she had the hots for the much older, sinlge dad employer of hers!!! And omg!!! Her lemon was so hilarious!!! I am very curious about the next couple!!! I can not wait!!!
"Wow, I have such a nice boss. A nice boss with a nice a$$ and a heart of gold. Fu*king great."
DNF at 32%. I wouldn’t normally rate but really the writing on this one just didn’t hit for me and want to leave my honest review up to that point. Loved the premise and was looking forward to it but the narration style and tone made me feel like the first person POV was also talking *to* me. Phrases like “you might think..” were used in the narration and I’m just like “no, I don’t?” I dunno, it just kind of read like a teen girl was telling me about their story on the phone or something rather than me actually reading/“seeing” the story from their POV. It also made it hard to really get the MMC as it just didn’t come across to me as a 30-something MMC tone/voice, some of it felt very young.
Cute kid character and idea of a smart and special young child needing a great nanny and then the dad and nanny falling for each other I really liked but I did have to pass on this one.
I received an advance copy of the book and have left my honest, influence-free review
4.5 ⭐️ 📕: The Single Dad Dilemma by Kat Savage Why you’ll love this book!! 🩵Age Gap 💛Single Dad x Nanny 🩵He’s a Tattoo Artist 💛She’s a Grad Student
I loved this quick cute read .. Darcy is a college Grad student needing a job for the summer. Ridge is a single dad who is an amazing tattoo artist..Ridge is looking for summer nanny for his little daughter and they quickly get hot between the two who can’t hind their attraction to each other!!If you look for a quick sweet read with an amazing couple and an awesome little girl named Lou this book is for you!!
A fun and quick read about single dad and tattoo artist Ridge and grad student turned nanny, Darcy. When they first meet it's an instant attraction for both but they keep it professional. As time goes on, Darcy falls more and more for his little girl Lou. When she needs to go on a weekend trip with him and Lou for a tattoo convention, their relationship grows. Unsure of how it will go at the end of the summer, they start to see each other. Their relationship grows and they decide to make it official. When her ex-boyfriend tries to start some stuff, Ridge is there right by her side.
This was a great read I loved the Men of Bird’s Eye series and was so happy to hear that this series was coming! I loved reading about Ridge and Darcy! Single hot dad with tattoos yes please! Then you meet Lou his sweet daughter. He needs to find a nanny for Lou which introduces Darcy. The chemistry is amazing and the journey to get there was page turning! I couldn’t stop reading it. I’ve had the privilege of reading many of Kat’s books and this was one of my favorites!
Grad student majoring in early childhood education, Darcy needs a job to cover her next semester’s tuition and her living expenses. In a desperate moment, she applies online for a nanny position and is shocked to have an offer of employment as nanny to the daughter of a gorgeous tattooed zaddy.
Ridge is smitten immediately with the beautiful and highly competent nanny who’ll be helping look after his brilliant and easily bored young daughter.
As they spend time together and alone with Ridge’s precocious daughter, they develop feelings toward each other as well.
How will their passion for each other hold up against the needs of Ridge’s daughter and his tattoo studio?
This was a s3xy, sweet, swoony book that was generously furnished by the Author Agency, and I’m sharing my honest review.
"I know I said I don't believe in perfection, but boy does he come close."
⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was a really short and cute read!
The pacing was well thought out - we were able to see Ridge and Darcy's relationship evolve and grow.
I loved seeing the found family Ridge found in his daughter's maternal grandparents, as well as those from Bird's Eye Tattoo Studio. Darcy's immediate love for Ridge's daughter, Lou, and the affection Lou had for Darcy, was wholesome as heck and so very heartwarming.
"Honey, I want you ruined for literally everyone else"
Loved this read; and definitely want to go back to read the Men of Bird's Eye series!
Thank you, Kat Savage, and The Author Agency, for the opportunity to read this eARC!
This was a quick, short read — exactly the break I needed from all the dark romances I’ve been devouring lately. Sometimes you just need a soft, feel-good story, and this one delivered perfectly!
Darcy, Ridge, and little Lou made the most adorable family. Loved how their relationship build up!
This was a swoony, comforting read that left me smiling the whole way through.
This book felt like returning home to old friends. Although I wish I could've seen more from the original gang, I loved getting to know the new family of misfits.

Star: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐.5
The Single Dad Dilemma by Kat Savage, the first instalment in the new Family of Misfits series, is a heartfelt and charming romance that successfully builds on the themes of found family and emotional resilience Kat Savage explored in her Men of Bird’s Eye series. Set in vibrant Nashville, this novel introduces Ridge Jessup, a celebrity tattoo artist and single father trying to keep his life afloat while raising his lively daughter. With his work schedule spiralling and daycare after daycare rejecting his daughter, Ridge’s desperation sets the stage for an unexpected, life-altering encounter.
Darcy Anderson, a relatable and driven character, enters the scene with her own struggles. Still a few credits shy of finishing her degree and with dwindling finances, she leaps at the chance to take a high-paying nanny job. From their first meeting, sparks fly between Ridge and Darcy, even as Ridge tries (and fails) to keep things strictly professional. The ten-year age gap adds a delicious layer of tension, while Ridge’s daughter acts as a catalyst, ultimately influencing his decision to hire Darcy against his better judgement.
Kat Savage masterfully blends humour, heat, and heartfelt moments in a way that makes the chemistry between Ridge and Darcy feel authentic and irresistible. The emotional stakes are beautifully drawn, with Darcy torn between the practical future she has mapped out and the messy, beautiful life she could have with Ridge and his daughter. Ridge’s internal struggle—balancing his responsibilities as a father with his growing feelings for Darcy—feels raw and real, making his character incredibly sympathetic.
The novel maintains a perfect pace, allowing their relationship to develop naturally against the backdrop of the chaotic but love-filled world of Bird’s Eye Tattoo Studio. Kat Savage’s knack for writing found families shines here, with secondary characters providing warmth, humour, and a strong sense of community, setting up intriguing possibilities for future books in the series.
Overall, The Single Dad Dilemma is a delightful start to the Family of Misfits series. It delivers all the emotional connection, steamy romance, and heartfelt storytelling readers have come to expect from Kat Savage. Whether you’re new to her work or a devoted fan of Men of Bird’s Eye, this new series promises to be another unforgettable journey.
I absolutely ADORED this book. Single dad with a hilarious and brilliant five year old + masters student looking to nanny for the summer?! Sign me the HECK up. I'm always a sucker for a single dad & nanny trope, but this story - this one was just so dang good.
The amount of times I laughed out loud during this book is way more than I have in a very long time. It was such a feel good, spicy, witty romance that I will now be picking up Kat's backlog of books because this was my first read by her!
Ridge Jessup is in a pickle. His 5 year old daughter has now gotten kicked out of just about every single daycare center in the city for being a little bit too... spirited and smart for her own good. Ridge is a single dad working at one of the most well known tattoo shops in the area, and while the guys at his shop treat his daughter like a princess, he needs to be able to do his job while not worrying about what his daughter, Lou, is up to. Finding a nanny online shouldn't be that difficult, right? I mean, surely they screen these people before sending them out into the workforce... But man oh man does Ridge go through quite the... interesting set of interviews before he finally finds the right nanny for his daughter. Darcy Anderson is professional, experienced, and getting her masters in education. So what could possibly be the problem you ask? Well she's hot as hell and a temptation Ridge 100% must force himself to resist. Because no matter the chemistry between the two, Ridge needs a nanny and that means absolutely no funny business.
I need everyone to go pick up this book so we can laugh together and relive the absolutely hilarious moments throughout this book. From Lou's obsession with conservation efforts, David Attenborough, and pangolins, to Darcy's bad*ss and hysterical roommate, Lyric, the mortician, I couldn't keep the smile off my face. 100/10 recommend this book.
I'm also chomping at the bit for Lyric (and maybe Waylon's?) book!!!
I absolutely recommend The Single Dad Dilemma for lovers of: - single dad x nanny - age gap (10 years) - tattoo artist MMC x teacher/masters student FMC - forced proximity - only one bed - hilarious 5 year old - he calls her "honey" - FMC with glasses - spice - HEA
Thank you so much to Kat and The Author Agency for my eARC!
⭐⭐⭐.5 🌶️🌶️ (The best part of the book was the spice)
The best way to describe this book is quirky. This was my first Kat Savage book and I look forward to reading others. Both Darcy and Ridge's inner monologues made me laugh.
If I wasn't an after school nanny, I would say there was no way a 5 year old would ask about having or wanting a boyfriend. But given this exact thing has happened to me 😂 this scene was not only hilarious but brought back memories.
Some of the tropes were a little forced to me. The single bed trope, only happened so the accidental sex toy reveal took place. Darcy and Lou easily could have stayed at Ridge's house for the duration of the convention.
Slight spoiler but Darcy gets drunk at a bar, and is able to text Ridge the address, but later on is too drunk to remember her own address. Personally I'm thinking it should have been the other way around. But again this was done so Darcy had to spend the night.
I do wish Lou was a little older. She spoke beyond her years and some of the environmental issues she concerned herself with I felt were preventing her from being well a 5 year old. But hey I suppose one is never too young to be an activist.
However I reminded myself that this is fiction so I'm not going to read too much into it. At the end of the day the book made me laugh and was a good pallet clean from all the dark romance I had been reading.
Wasn't aware that a lemon (IYKYK) was an option, but I'm definitely going to look into it...for scientific purposes of course 🤷🏾♀️.
Overall it wasn't a bad book, it suffered from being too short, therefore barely any character or chemistry development. I wanted to say I wasn't the target audience, but that's far from the truth. I definitely liked this story, and I'm excited for the next book in the series. However I felt a lot of happening, but at the same time there wasn't much happening at all.
I wish had gotten to see how Darcy balanced college with being Ridge’s girlfriend and Lou’s nanny. I thought that was going to be the central plot point, but it faded into the background.
That being said I can't wait to read book 2 in November.
Thank you Kat Savage and The Author Agency for providing me with a copy of The Single Dad Dilemma. And allowing me to share my honest review..
I absolutely loved the “Men of Bird’s Eye” series and I’m so happy to go back into this world with a new series. “The Single Dad Dilemma” is a swoony, romantic and sweet single Dad romance that I enjoyed so much.
Ridge Jessup is a single Dad to a fun and smart 5 year old, Lou and he needs a nanny for the summer. Lou isn’t happy with any of the daycares so this is his last resort. And when puts an ad out, he’s taken back when a beautiful woman in glasses applies for the job. Darcy Anderson is just a few credits shy of finishing college and this temporary job is perfect for her. But neither was expecting to be attracted to each other but this situation works out best for them so they make it a point to not explore anything further. But one trip out of town, the tension between them boils over.
This was such a fun start to the series and I loved Ridge and Darcy. Ridge is a great Dad and I loved that he was always making sure that Lou was happy and thriving. He worked hard to balance his work and home life as the best he could. Darcy is such a sweetheart and just is all the goodness in the world. She’s kind, genuine and loves Lou from the beginning and is helping her thrive. I loved the instant attraction they had for each other but didn’t immediately act on it. They had a medium-ish build up and I loved the chemistry. Once they gave into the attraction, they were incredible together. They moved at the perfect pace for them and their relationship evolved so naturally. I also loved when it was the three of them hanging out and just being, they were adorable. The ending was so sweet and wrapped up their story perfectly. And I cannot wait to read any books about the rest of the crew from Bird’s Eye in Nashville.
It’s a real dilemma.
Despite his best efforts to keep their relationship professional, things get hot and heavy as complications continue to mount. Darcy finds herself torn—her practical brain still preparing for the perfectly planned future she envisioned for herself while her fairytale-loving heart is looking to override everything for a single dad and his little girl she doesn’t want to walk away from.
Oh my goodness these characters were so cute! Ridge is the sweetest and such a doting father. His daughter Lou is so funny and the coolest kid. Her quirkiness is honestly so adorable. When Darcy comes into the picture it’s like they’re family is finally complete. She’s the glue they never knew they needed. I love a good single dad romance but add in the nann as well and I’m hooked! This was such a cute fun read and I finished it in one sitting!
A straight up pleasure read! This is fun, there’s a sincerity to it that has you all in from the start, it’s got a sexy undercurrent through the whole thing that makes every interaction between Darcy and Ridge absolutely electric, and little Louise Mae has got so much charisma and charm rolling off her you’re in love from the second she sets foot on the page. With some serious smokin hot single dad vibes, an age gap that gives you all the he’s a man not a boy you can handle and a depth to every touch and every word that lets you know Ridge is not playing there is something completely magnetic about this whole book that you cannot tear your eyes away from as Darcy and Ridge put up the good fight against their attraction, lose in an incredibly honest and all kinds of can’t keep their hands off each other inevitable way, and Lou steals your whole heart with her intelligence, her kid bluntness, and her mission to free the school pets, and damn is it wonderful. Love, love, loved this read! The plot itself is not overly complicated, single dad falls for his nanny, but it just oozes warmth and honesty and real and it makes this story irresistible, easy to fall into, and it just feels good to read. Ridge is a wonderful dad, his maturity is such an asset through the whole book in his thoughts, in the way he talks to Darcy about if they have a future and what it might look like, and honestly it’s really hot. Darcy brings a lightness to Ridge and Lou’s lives that’s delightful but at the same time she’s determined, she’s smart, and she has her own maturity that matches perfectly with Ridge. It’s never to serious but it’s definitely not a light and fluffy read, it’s that magic in between and it’s so good.
This is the first book by this author. While I did enjoy, I feel like it needed more!
You meet single dad Ridge and grad student Darcy. He is in desperate need of childcare for his 5 year old daughter Lou after she has been kicked out of every daycare in town. She’s a student trying to figure out how to pay for her next year in school. She interviews with him in the tattoo parlor and right away feels that there is something about him.
He hires her out of desperation and right away his daughter and her hit it off right away. The three of them started a routine both in the morning and in the evening. He is there for her when her crazy ex shows up. They share things with each other and their friends around them are all seeing that they are almost perfect for each other.
Things turn interesting when she goes along with him to a convention and feelings finally come out. Back home he stands up for her again and she’s not use to someone being there for her, and wanting what is best. She develops the courage to stand up to someone and it proves good for her in letting go.
This book has spice, banter, hot sexy tattoo single men, and a best friend who isn’t afraid to bury you 6 feet under. While I really wish this book had more for it, I think it couldn’t have been made longer. The backbone is there where there could have been more. I’ve also never seen a 5 year old speak the way she does and which I could have seen more of her being a kid. I would have loved to see more of them growing as a couple with Lou. Would I read it again? Maybe, if I wanted a quick read. Though do loved to see more of these “sexy tattoo” men Ridge works with cause they seem like a great bunch!
Kat Savage's The Single Dad Dilemma dives headfirst into the chaotic yet heartwarming world of Ridge Jessup, a talented tattoo artist juggling demanding clients, convention circuits, and the delightful mayhem of his spirited young daughter. When daycare woes leave him scrambling for summer help, Darcy Anderson, a financially strapped student, appears as the seemingly perfect solution.
Savage crafts an engaging dynamic between Ridge and Darcy. Ridge's initial reluctance, fueled by an undeniable attraction and the ten-year age difference, creates a compelling tension. His struggle to maintain a professional boundary with the captivating Darcy feels genuine, especially given his protective instincts as a single father. Darcy, on the other hand, is more than just a temporary fix; her intelligence and humor quickly charm not only Ridge but also his daughter.
The author skillfully portrays the burgeoning connection between Darcy and Ridge, navigating the complexities of their evolving feelings amidst mounting external pressures. Darcy's internal conflict—the clash between her pragmatic future plans and her growing affection for Ridge and his daughter—adds depth to her character. While the "too good to be true" premise of the job hints at the inevitable romantic entanglement, Savage keeps the narrative engaging with relatable challenges and tender moments. The Single Dad Dilemma promises a steamy and emotionally resonant summer read for those who enjoy stories about unexpected connections and the sweet chaos of family.

This was such a fun, laugh out romcom that I enjoyed immensely. Ridge and Darcy were such a fun couple fighting their attraction while being completely unaware the other was fighting the same battle. Ridge is a single father that had me laughing with his attitude towards being a single parent, he wasn't bitter but just making the best out of his situation. I laughed with what he chose to do with this free time when his daughter spent weekends with her grandparents. I loved that he wanted what was best with his daughter and didn't try to conform her into someone else. Plus, the internal dialogue on if he was a decent parent or doing the right thing had me giggling. Not to mention that Lou was one of my favorite kid side characters I have read in a while. She was hilarious in her thought processes. She made me happy while she fought the oppression of the institute that is daycare.
And Darcy was the perfect combo of determined and sweet. I loved that she was learning to move past a narcissist relationship. She was learning about her own kinks, wants, and ability to be comfortable making her own demands needed in a healthy relationship. I loved the relationship she was forming with Lou. She embraced that little girl and helped create an environment in which she could continue to grow and get the attention she needed, instead of being oppressed or bored with tasks that she had outgrown.
Honestly, this book brought a smile to my face and just made me happy. I laughed throughout the story and just enjoyed the ease in which the story flowed. It's cute and fun, everything I need when I read a few too many dark romances. I need the light to balance my palate.
This was my first Kat Savage book, but it will not be my last. Honestly it’s a miracle I even read this one because I have sworn off requesting ARCs for new authors since I always request too many and then don’t touch my tbr, but honestly something cover and tropes HOOKED me and I pressed request without a second thought.
Thank God for that because girlfriend is FUN-NY and man does she do a slower burn right.
Ridge is a single dad to Louise (Lou), who is as free spirited and passionate as they come and also has a penchant for getting herself booted from daycares… like ALL the daycares. While Ridge’s job at the tattoo shop is a little more lenient, it’s not the place for a preschool aged kid long term, so he turns to a nanny agency to find someone who is the right fit for them.
Darcy is a college student who has run out of money for tuition and desperately needs a job paying more than minimum wage so she can finish up her last year… so she turns to a nanny agency to find someone who pays a little bit better and it just so happens that nannying lines up with her dreams and aspirations of being an Early Childhood teacher.
Are they both incredibly attractive? Yes. Do they, as a result of chaos and kismet, end up in a one bed forced proximity situation that escalates and exposes their feeling for one another? Why yes, yes they do. Is their chemistry combustible and carried the rest of the story along with a side storyline of a pest of an ex who refuses to disappear? Yes, AGAIN.
I laughed, I laughed some more, and I swooned from sun up to sun down with this one. It was my first Kat Savage book, but I’m ready to dive into her backlist like a kid at summer camp.
If you loved Kat Savage's Men of Bird's Eye series, then her new spin-off series, Family of Misfits is the new spin-off series may very well click with you, too. The Single Dad Dilemma is the series starter, and as hinted at in the title, this is a single parent romance, one that involves the newly hired nanny, and there's an age gap to boot! And if you've never read any of the Men of Bird's Eye books, you can jump in straightaway with this new release and not feel as if you're missing out on anything of vital importance.
There's no denying that Ridge Jessup's world revolves around his five-year-old daughter, Louise Mae, but getting kicked out of ten daycares has left the thirty-five-year-old single father and tattoo artist needing a new plan. Maybe a nanny is what they need, and twenty-five-year-old grad student Darcy Anderson turns out to be a godsend. She quickly bonds with Lou, and she eases Ridge's worries when it comes to his daughter. So being attracted to Darcy is a complication; knowing that attraction is mutual? A total dilemma.
I quite enjoyed everything that Ridge and Darcy's romance had to offer. I loved how Lou remained their top priority even while they explored their connection. There was also nothing rushed about their relationship, with them building trust and earning respect even as they became friends and then more. I appreciated the effort in tying this spin-off to the original series, but Avery kind of disappeared after a few chapters, and I was curious as to whether Ridge would continue running the shop or not. Still, The Single Dad Dilemma was a good start to the Family of Misfits series, and it gets 4.5 stars.
The Single Dad Dilemma is a super sweet single dad/nanny romance. Reading Darcy and Ridge's romance was a great way to spend a rainy weekend day.
Ridge desperately needs a new nanny thanks to his rather spirited 4-year-old daughter, Louise (aka Lou), being kicked out of every daycare in the city. Darcy needs a good-paying summer job to bank tuition money and finish up her master's degree in early childhood education. It's a win/win for them both — especially since Darcy and Lou hit it off right away. There's an instant attraction between Darcy and Ridge that they try to fight off -- he's 14 years older than her, and she's got some baggage thanks to a bad prior relationship -- but they give in to their feelings one night while they are stuck together in a hotel room.
There is some drama with Darcy's ex-boyfriend that Ridge handles relatively swiftly in a hot scene where he plays her knight in shining armour. However, I wish there was more explanation given about her past with Tyler; what seems like what should have been an important conversation happened off-page and was referenced briefly, and I felt like it deserved more to propel Darcy and Ridge forward together.
But overall, The Single Dad Dilemma was a great start to a new series. It's a spinoff from the Men of Birds Eye series, featuring a new cast of characters working at the tattoo shop's Nashville location, and I look forward to getting to know the other guys better!
