"Shadow Prison" follows the life of troubled PhD psychologist Jacqueline Desoto as she begins her new job at the notorious Bell View Civil Commitment Unit for Sex Offenders. She faces the daunting task of treating hardened criminal sex offenders, as well as navigating a mismanaged and failing bureaucracy. Along the way, Desoto meets a rag tag group of sex offenders of all ages and personality types who have committed unspeakable crimes. Her sanity is pushed to the limit when she is assigned to treat the infamous G, the master criminal sex offender as he tries to outsmart her and the system to achieve his goal of bringing down Bell View.

This book touches on some of the struggles of addiction and the struggles of working with a vulnerable population of criminals. The challenges of being a new therapist in a mismanaged facility. Author describes the characters well and has wide range of them. Easy to follow along and quick read.

Desoto, the therapist tasked with treating these offenders, quickly realizes she’s in over her head. The tension ramps up as the inmates scheme to take down the facility from within, leaving Desoto battling not only for control, but for her own sanity. This book is relentless, unsettling, and keeps you turning the pages as you wonder who—if anyone—will make it out unscathed. A gripping psychological thriller that isn’t afraid to explore the darkest corners of the human mind.

This is definitely a goodread for thriller lovers, such an interesting read
