Jax 2648 days. That’s how long it’s been since I last saw the love of my life. The day Allison Bennett just disappeared without a trace and left me in my own personal hell.
The night I’m running late to my engagement party to another woman is the night I walk outside to find Allie just standing there. It’s like the universe just handed me the best gift of my life, but Allie doesn’t remember me. She doesn’t even remember herself.
Allie I escaped the basement and found the only thing I remembered. A house with a man who looks over the moon to see me again.
No matter how hard I try to remember, nothing works. It’s made even worse knowing how much I’m disappointing everyone. Jax for not remembering our love. Our friends because I don’t know them. Laura because I ruined her engagement. Even the cops who still think I may be faking. But no one compares to the disappointment I feel knowing that the new version of me will never quite compare to the old version everyone prays will return.
Laura I won the lottery when Jax finally gave me the time of day after decades of loving him. But it all comes crashing down around me when I get that text sent to everyone, not just me. Allie’s back. Not only is Allie back, Jax no longer wants to marry me.
I can’t lose him. Not after I fought so hard. I’m not convinced Allie isn’t faking her amnesia, but if she really doesn’t remember, driving a wedge between them might just be my ticket to getting Jax back.
Logan Gray is a writer and authorpreneur who likes to create books like artists like to create art. Description is important, but she wants to allow the reader to make the story their own. While she wants to give the reader what he or she needs to see the picture she's trying to depict, she doesn't want to fill the pages with unnecessary description to restrict how the reader views the characters or places.
While this may not appeal to all readers, she hopes it appeals to others who like you add their own touch to the story. Maybe they would rather the walls be white instead of gray. Maybe they'd like to envision the person is tall instead of average height. While the description as she sees it is there, it's not written so strongly the own interpretation cannot be made and applied. It gives the reader some creative freedom in a hobby that isn't always as flexible.
3 super soapy OTT low-angst 🌟 with a kidnapping and amnesia! I won’t read it again, but I did finish it, and that is telling given my recent DNF streak. If I’d been in a slightly crankier or more impatient mood, my rating likely would have been lower. The whole book requires a lot of suspension of disbelief to keep turning the pages (just one example is the ridiculous cops investigating the kidnapping 🙄). If your’re in the mood for a silly OTT mystery-esque second chance story with a splash of amnesia, forge ahead!
One of this author's better books. A little unbelievable at times. Especially when it came to the cops. I had the same problem as everyone else in the reviews had. Jax having sex with Laura three days after Allie was back. I'm unsure why the author needed that in the story. If he was so in love with Allie that shouldn't have happened at all. Especially since she was back from the dead. It actually made zero sense for his character and the author just added it for extra angst that ruined the book. His thoughts completely changed. What the reader get's is if you put a pair of fake tits in front of this guy he'll crumble. But from reading most of this author's work now all her MMCs are beta and weak when it comes to self control. Other than that the ow Laura's POV was probably the funnest to read and I enjoyed that which is rare for me. She was certifiable nuts and that's the way I like my ow's in fiction. 😅
I enjoyed this, but I have two caveats. 1- This is soapy, it’s dramatic and not super realistic at times, so heads up if that’s not your thing. 2- There’s one scene that might/will probably upset safety readers, so if safety can make or break your reading enjoyment, I'd skip it. (deets are at end) Let’s go.
The blurb sets this up, Allie and Jax were childhood sweethearts and getting engaged when she disappeared seven years earlier. Jax is dragging his feet going to his engagement party to his long-term friend turned fiancée Laura when she appears emaciated with no memory on their front step. He immediately drops Laura like a bad habit, and the rest is a soapy version of Allie and Jax reconnecting while Laura tries to break them up all while trying to figure out who kidnapped her.
Bottom Line- This is the best book I’ve read from this author. There’re some grammatical issues, and I figured out what was going on before the big twist at the end, but I still gobbled it in one sitting because I love a whacko wannabe OW. (I was in the mood for OTT mindless drama-llama) And unlike the two books referenced below, Laura got plenty of page time. And I liked that Jax gave zero shits for Laura’s feelings at all unlike HERE.
If you like this type of read, it was similar to THIS and THIS.
1. Needed editing. Poor grammar. Wrong punctuation. Wrong words. Sentence fragments. a. “There’s no way I’d believe he’d be capable of creating such vivid emotions without truly feeling them. I also don’t feel like he can create such vivid emotions without feeling them.” ??? b. “You seem to have moved on, which, seven years is a long time not to.” c. “It was dark, and I think the streetlights wasn’t on yet.” d. “Diluted” instead of “deluded”. e. “Five-gallon pale”. 2. This book was ridiculous; there were SO many plot holes, inconsistencies and things that just didn’t make sense. a. Without seeing her before she was kidnapped, there was no way that the doctors could approximate how much weight she’d lost. b. Allie was discouraged because she couldn’t remember her life before the kidnapping. She said, “It’s so frustrating. It feels like everything is right there. Right under the surface waiting. I know there’s a trigger that will bring it all back. I just don’t know what that trigger is.” Yet, she wouldn’t let Jax tell her any stories about her past that might trigger her memory because she felt like he was pressuring her to remember. c. Laura planted a camera in Jax and Allie’s bedroom. She thought that if she knew they were having $ex, she was going to “use that knowledge to get Jax to understand how much better he had it” with her. d. Laura was convinced that Allie was faking her memory loss because, “No one forgets a man like Jax.” e. Allie was at her home under police protection. Laura showed up to visit her and no one stopped her or even asked who she was because she “waved at the cop to let him know this was a friendly visit.” f. Jax had the $ex videos of him and Allie “locked down with a password and an encryption key”; they were so secure that the police weren’t able to find them. Yet, Allie was able to find and access them easily. g. At the beginning of the book, the cops said that Jax had an ironclad alibi for Allie’s disappearance, that he had been at the bar with multiple witnesses. Later, the story changed to the police saying that there was a “hole in his alibi”. h. The police also claimed that “someone” told them that Allie and Jax were having problems although we never found out who that “someone” was. i. Jax and Allie had a huge fight because he pressured her into coming to meet his family when she wasn’t ready and then left her alone. Allie was so upset with him that she left him to go stay with Sage. So they decided to have a party for him to introduce her to all his friends??? j. When the police were taking Allie back to the house where she was held captive because they wanted her to walk them through it, they allowed FOUR other people into a fresh crime scene just because they were curious and wanted to see it.

the title should be please forget. double standards as always. I was also confused as to how many times the MMC had sex with the ow? was it 2 years or just 3 times, as the ow mentioned to her friend? it definitely makes a difference. plus I don't care if the ow is a freak in the bed, like why do we care?
if the author had made this part more clear and if the shock value of the almost sex scene didn't happen, I could probably rate it more.
also wtf? they have sex without protection and in the end the FMC is so in love and just wants him, even after knowing he was sleeping with the ow/engaged as well.

It seems hard to believe that Jax and Laura were going to be engaged as she's a little odd and we truly have to wonder what is wrong with Jax. Otherwise, twists and suspense are interesting 🤔.
I like how the author wrote the scene where Allie comes to herself. It makes all the story of Allie's memory loss seem legit and correct to the story.
Oh, it's hard to believe that one cop was so far off to believe his stupid theories and push them on Allie. I started to think he was in on it. Ha.
Told from the viewpoint of 3 different narrators, Please Remember kept me on my toes throughout. The narrator dropped little hints when it was their chapter, which had you questioning what you thought was the truth of what happened from the previous narrator’s chapter. Crazy twist in the ending but it brought everything together nicely.
I thought quite hard before rating this one because I was conflicted about some things. It started badly. The heroine disappeared even years before when the hero was going to propose. She never turned up, and was never found. The hero waited and looked for her for five years, then he moved on with a friend of theirs, a woman who had been always around them, or more precisely, him, since she had a crush on him since forever despite him being hopelessly in love with the heroine. So, the last two years they’ve been in some kind of a relationship where they have had a lot of sex but not much more. They live separately and he’s some kind of proposed to her in a bad way, but she accepted of course. The night of their engagement party the heroine manages to run from where she’s been kept for six years and she manages, despite being completely amnesiac, to find where the hero and she lived. Of course the hero takes her to emergency and he’s so glad that she’s back. He immediately breaks up with his fiancee, and takes the heroine home. - some things were really weird. Unacceptable even and inconsistent. - the heroine for seven years has been in a basement without any light eating very few, she’s lost 40 pounds and should be traumatized since she never talked to anyone and didn’t see anyone, since the one who looked after her was always masked and never said anything. But she’s quite feisty and normal. She has some kind of half panic attacks, but she doesn’t react confused and scared as she should. - the worst and most inconsistent part. The cops interrogated her hard, and one of the cops, or better the detective, thinks she’s pretending and faking. She was hurt and has a badly healed gash on her head, she’s emaciated and skinny, she’s full of wounds. This cop thinks she faked and pretended to be abducted. Really? Honest? What kind of cops are allowed to interrogate a patient that is obviously so malnourished, hurt, severely way in a hospital? And what kind of deductions are these? And the behavior of the cops is very unprofessional, I’m no cop but is don’t suppose cops can harass patient that are obviously victims in hospital, then they say, let’s start again, when they realized they messed up, no wonder the poor heroine was never found if these are the cops that should be looking for her. - the heroines parents especially the mother are insane. The mother is crazy but don’t worry, in the end she has a personality transplant and becomes a decent human being while she never was, nor before not after the heroine disappeared. - the hero is character free. He’s weak, pathetic and inconsistent. The author makes a big mistake. Ok, it is understandable that after five years he tried, pushed by all his friends, to move on, and that he would do it with a woman who was always there for him, well, it’s also understandable because she did all the work, so to speak. I won’t hold it against him that he had sex with her, because he thought the heroine was never going to come back, sadly these cases don’t end well. If someone is not found in a very short period of time, and no ransom is found, very likely they’re dead. Or wanted to disappear. In this case, I think most people would try to move on and suppose the poor heroine was gone, dead for good. So no, I can’t hold it against him that he tried to move on, because ow was really persistent and devious and she was ready to do everything in bed to keep him satisfied. But he never loved her and never even liked her, so why make him propose, even if he did so badly that he hoped she would refuse him? I think this only made him look weak and pathetic instead of a man who is still pining for someone who very likely he won’t see anymore. The constant reference to kinky sex they had was not necessary imo. Ok they had sex, she was willing to do anything to keep him, but why should we know the details? And the big mistake of this author was to have him and ow have sex three days after the heroine came back. He stopped, but why did he even initiated it? After all, he had just had the woman of his dreams, the love of his life, back home, so why should he even feel like having sex with another woman? Really? Dear author this was a very bad lack of psychological insight. No sane and average man whole ever do something like that maybe for the one reason that he is shocked and traumatized by his beloved reappearance, so why write such a scene? Just to make drama that was unnecessary afterwards? Not good, not at all. - the double standard. He got to have sex with another woman and had sex with someone else before her while she only had sex with him. Even if I understand that she couldn’t have sex while being kept prisoner, I wish she had sex with someone else before the hero, this double standard thing makes me sick every time. - the only saving grace was the end, with an interesting twist, that kept the attention from the main couple and saved somehow the book from a one star rate. Yes, there’s explanation for almost everything, even though I suppose that town has the worst couple of cops and detectives that you could ever imagine. I mean, double checking, following suspects, these kind of things were never done, were they so low budget? - so, the most interesting part was the mystery part. It was also bizarre that the hero, the personality free guy that was so contended and wanted by women, accepted to be with a woman so less interesting, charming and beautiful than the heroine, because yes, ow was called butter face and she’s quite overlooked by everyone, she even had her tits done because apparently without them no one would notice her! So for once the hero settled for very very low, so low that when the heroine recovered her memory she laughed in his face because he was engaged to her. This was quite weird. - with some different things it could have been more. A more forceful and determined hero, who didn’t succumb to lust with butter face three days after the supposed love of his life came back, some good detectives and some less weird interrogations, and yes, the heroine’s parents that were really uncaring and ott.
I feel like this was marketed as a romance and a romance it is not. Would not recommend and 2.5 overall, but mostly due to content I do not enjoy reading about and should have DNF’d.
WHAT THE F***!!! How have I not ever read anything from Logan Gray. This book hooked me from the beginning I had to know how it was going to end. Their is OW drama and let me just say, she was CRAZY. I wasn't surprised by her ending because it makes sense. They lengths she went to I CANNOT.
mmc and fmc were in love and she disappears for years and everyone thinks she died and encourages the mmc to move on but he is hesitant he didn't move for 5 years. When the fmc escaped from the basement where she was held she doesn't remember what happened and comes back to see the mmc engaged to someone else. A lot of drama happens. The ow cause trouble for fmc and mmc relationship.
Side note: the way the mmc proposed to the ow was low key funny.
This book had me. Hooked. Line. And completely sunk. 🎣 My self-control was too strong this time—I somehow resisted the urge to peek ahead and spoil all the delicious twists for myself. Sometimes, we truly are our own worst enemies. 😂😂
This story? Original. Twisty. Seductive. Every other chapter, I was pointing fingers like I was solving a crime drama—"It’s them! No, wait… it’s definitely them!" The suspense was real. 🔥
It’s my first read from this author, but trust me, it won’t be my last. Their storytelling is that good! Some might get Gone Girl vibes, but baby, that doesn’t even begin to cover it. Buckle up, because this ride is WILD. 🚀
I believe the name of the book I’m thinking of is The Returned. Ms. Silver published it several years ago, in 2018. The plot is almost identical. I have no way of knowing how Ms. Gray came up with this book’s plot, but there are many similarities.
SPOILERS…
And those similarities have really biased me. This doesn’t seem original in any way, because of that. The characters are similar too, although there are no children involved in this one. But the whacked out OW? Yup. Not in the same way, but certainly with having another identity. And since I’ve already read the other story, I knew what the deal was.
Great book. I couldn't put it down and read it one sitting. Took one star off for the incident that happened 3 days after the h came back. I didn't find it fit with what the H would do. It didn't fit his character considering his feelings for the h that never wavered in the time she was gone, and the fact that he immediately broke off his engagement and relationship with OW, that he didn't really want anyway, immediately on h's return. So, I took a point off for that. Otherwise = great book!
Entertaining, if not a bit predictable. I had issues with how both the MMC and the FMC were doormats for the first half of the book. I did think their conversations were realistic, for the most part and the supporting characters were great. I loved Sage, and thought she was a fantastic friend to the main couple. Natalie... saw that twist a mile away, so I was a bit disappointed.
Still, I finished it and was entertained. I do plan on revisiting certain chapters because I loved the writing. 3.5 stars, rounded up to four.
This book was totally unexpected.i Had a hard time putting this book down. This author made this book seem like you were apart of it. The way this author wrote this absolutely amazing. She did a great job up with the characters and keep you on your toes. Please read the warnings of triggers before you start this book. Most of the characters are great and some of them. That's great. This is also very emotional.
I’m a massive Deranged Drifters fan so I’ll admit I was a bit nervous reading this as it’s a totally different direction from the MC world. This story is absolutely fantastic, I read it in one sitting, couldn’t put it down. The book revolves around Jax and Allie, Allie has been missing for 7 years but Jax has never stopped loving her. This book is full of suspense, steam and a twist you’ll never see coming. This is one book you need in your collection.
I really enjoyed this book. It was different but in an amazing way. We meet Jax, Allie and Laura. Allie had been kidnapped and held prisoner for 7 years! When she makes it back to her old life so many things had changed. Will Allie remember? Who captured her? Will they ever be found. Ms. Gray is one of my go to authors. Her writing is amazing and this book is no exception. Please read it. You will not be disappointed. Thank you!
I don’t feel like the author did as much research as she should have to make the end more sympathetic towards one of the characters. I know that’s vague, but I don’t want to give it away. I figured out within a chapter or two who the guilty party was, although I didn’t figure out the twist.
The rest of the book was fine. Nothing I’d read again but not a waste of time, either.
I liked this story and the characters were real to the story. Very nicely written. It wasn't hard to figure out the nut case but I don't think you were trying to hide it. The story unfolding is interesting and keeps you wanted to read to see what's next. The ending made you want to know more.
Book was ok, I did figure out who and why Allie was captive right from the start. I’m not sure if it’s because I read so much though. If you don’t read 400 books a year this could be a slightly suspenseful story for you
Great Book. Keeps you wondering. And hurt for Allie. 7 years is a long time. Jax not able to see what's in front of him. Both have challenges ahead. A lot of twists in this gripping story. Awesome ending.
Definitely enjoyed the book. I didn't see that ending coming. It kept me guessing till about halfway through, Jax and Ally suited one another his love for her was so strong, Lauren was a crazy woman and loved the side characters ❤️
"I will never give up on you. On us. I love you, baby. I loved you before, I loved you when you were gone, I loved you when you came back, and I love you now." -Jackson Everett, from Please Remember by Logan Gray
Allie has been missing for 7 years, she comes back on the eve of Jax her boyfriend's engagement to another woman. Allie has amnesia though and does not remember anything before waking up in the basement she was in. Jax did not really want to get married to Laurie the OW but everyone kept telling him he needed to move on.
Book revolves trying to find out what happened to Allie
