A gorgeously romantic and feelgood summer read set in the Cotswolds - it'll definitely put a smile on your face ☀️💕 Perfect for fans of Jessica Redland, Rachael Lucas and Phillipa Ashley ☀️💕 Is this just a summer romance or could it be more?
Nicola grew up at Pennycress Inn, in the beautiful Cotswold village of Meadowfield, and now she’s come full circle by landing a job there. After a difficult few months, she’s happy to be back in the place she loves and calls home.
The whole village is looking forward to the annual summer carnival, and Nicola is charged with asking the local farmers to lend their tractors and trailers for the occasion. It’s an easy task – until she meets the new owner of Little Mead Farm, who stubbornly refuses to help.
On sabbatical from his City job for the summer, Charlie wants to do up his late uncle’s farm and put it on the market as soon as possible. The place might have been in his family for generations but country life is simply not for him. He has no time for whatever the villagers are up to.
When Nicola and Charlie meet, sparks fly – and unexpected feelings grow. Soon there’s more at stake in Meadowfield than the success of the carnival. But whatever happens between them, this is just a summer romance… isn’t it?
Praise for Sarah

This was a cute quick read. I started reading this before I realised it was book two in the series. I don’t think it detracted from the plot as the character this book concentrated on was different to book one - with that character, Laura playing a smaller supporting role.
Nicole and Charlie are great characters, and I enjoyed seeing Charlie slowly fall in love with Little Mead as well as with Nic, and who couldn’t love a mischievous sheep?
Some great friendships shown with the support Nic gets after her ex tries to bully his way back into her life. And how Charlie is accepted and included in all the groups.
A great little series that you can escape to easily.
This is a delightful sequel to Welcome to Pennycress Inn. Nicola is settling in well at her new job at Pennycress Inn with the new owner, Laura. After having grown up at the inn, she is excited to be part of updated business, following the end of her previous relationship and needing to leave her job where he also worked. I liked that the mischievous sheep reappears in this book. I am excited to see if there will be another book in this series.
I loved book 1 in this series (they can be read as standalones) and book 2 didn't disappoint either. I love Meadowfield and its residents.
There are some real laugh out loud moments throughout the book and I just loved the characters. I'm hopeful there will be more from Pennycress Inn. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I picked this one up not realizing it was part of a series, but honestly, it didn’t matter at all. It was super easy to follow, and I never felt like I was missing any major backstory.
I’m a total sucker for small-town romances, especially the kind that feel like a warm hug and a glass of iced tea on a summer afternoon. Falling in Love at Pennycress Inn is exactly that kind of read. I mean, did I Google to see if Pennycress was a real place? Maybe... It just sounded so cozy and real!
This story had everything I love in a feel-good romance: sweet characters, a charming setting, a runaway sheep and (thankfully) very little drama. Everyone is just nice, which is honestly refreshing. It’s the kind of book where you know everything will work out in the end, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need. I flew through it in no time.
Highly recommend for anyone who loves heartwarming, low-stress reads that make you smile. Perfect for a lazy weekend or your summer TBR pile!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this digital copy in exchange for my honest review.
Not realizing this was part of a series, until I started it, it wasn't confusing and easy to follow. Not necessarily a stand alone, but could be read as one. If you are looking for a sweet, heartwarming, closed-door romance then this is for you! This was cute and such a quick read. Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for my digital ARC!!
Falling in Love at Pennycress Inn is a sweet and heartfelt grumpy sunshine romance that I absolutely adored.
I love a charming small-town English romance, and this book was everything I hoped it would be. This is the second book in the Pennycress Inn series, but it can be read as a stand-alone. In this book, we spend more time with Nicola, whom we met in the first book. Her long-time boyfriend has broken up with her, which is probably a blessing, as he can be a bit of an ass. However, Nicola loves her job working at the Pennycress Inn and has a great group of close friends. I thoroughly enjoyed Nicola’s story. It really had everything I wanted in small-town romance: meddling friends and townspeople, quirky town drama, the heroine disrupting any carefully laid plans the hero has, and one demanding cat.
Sarah does a wonderful job of hooking readers and keeping them entertained throughout. I loved just watching everything unfold and was curious to see how Nicola and Charlie would get their HEA. There were some laugh-out-loud moments, usually involving Nicola’s cat, who instantly adores Charlie, which is a micro-trope that I just love. I can instantly tell that Sarah knows her romances because she includes so many wonderful tropes and perfect rom-com moments that make for one swoony reading experience. You have that pesky ex who just keeps popping up; you have the heroine finding herself in a tricky situation and a grumpy hero who just wants to be left alone. This book was such a fun, light, and fluffy read. But it’s just not all fluff; these characters are dealing with real-life issues. Nicola is feeling adrift and not too sure what her next steps are in her personal life; Charlie is dealing with the grief of losing a family member and having to make a big decision about what to do with the family farm. The townspeople are quirky, but are also going through things, and it was great watching the community come and support each other in their time of need.
The romance is sweet and lovely. It’s a closed-door romance, which I loved. Don’t get me wrong, I love my spice, but there are times when this bookworm wants to read something that stirs those romance butterflies in her stomach without clothes flying off the MCs. Nicola and Charlie don’t get off on the right foot. Nicola thinks Charlie is a grumpy man who has no sense of community. Charlie thinks Nicola is just another townsperson looking to meddle in his business. I liked this dislike to lovers’ love story. That fiery, sharp banter between the two MCs is like catnip for my soul. I also love this trope because I love watching that dislike turn into something else. I enjoyed Nicola and Charlie’s romance. There is this ticking time bomb to their relationship because Charlie is set on selling the farm because he loves his life in London and doesn’t want to give it up. The question becomes whether they can have a successful long-distance relationship or, in the end, who will be the one to move?
Falling in Love at Pennycress Inn is a charming and fun romance that is so easy to love.
This is the second book in the series featuring Pennycress Inn, and Laura is still working hard to make the Inn pay and make it the hub of the village. She has Nicola to help her out, and she's a god-send as her mum used to run the Inn years ago, so he knows the ropes. Things are good, they are fully booked for the weekend and now there's the annual carnival coming up which should be a good success and Nicola has been left to sort out things. Only trouble is they need to borrow a tractor and trailer, they always used to borrow it from the local farmer, but since he passed away and his nephew has taken over the farm, the answer to borrowing the tractor and trailer has been a great big "no". This is made even worse by her ex Nathan stopping the payments on her car, and now it's been repossessed. Still, she has her bike, though it's the one she had as a teenager, so probably not in the best of working order, but it's all she has, and it will have to do. But after cycling to see the grumpy farmer and then it pouring with rain, she comes to an unfortunate situation with her brakes failing and having an accident. Nicola has just had enough, but then who comes by and rescues her, none other than the grumpy farmer. But still, the problems with her ex Nathan continue, will he never give up, he thinks things should go back to how they were before the split when his new girlfriend then throws him out. With hilarious moments chasing a wilful sheep to sorrowful times when she realises that her relationship with her newfound boyfriend just won't last with one of them living in London and the other living in the Cotswolds, this book follows the lives of the people living in this quaint village. Will there be a happy ever after or not?
I enjoyed reading this book, I have read the previous book in the series, but you can read this as a stand-alone book, as this is Nicola's story. A perfect read for warm summer days, it kept my attention throughout, and I have given it five-stars.
This charming novel is the second book in a delightful series set in the picturesque Cotswold village of Meadowfield. It was a pleasure to return to the cozy atmosphere of Pennycress Inn, where Laura and Jackson have successfully transformed the inn into a thriving hub for locals and visitors alike.
The story introduces Nicola, a determined and hardworking woman who is still grappling with the emotional fallout from her painful breakup with her unfaithful fiancé. Seeking solace and distraction, she immerses herself in her duties at the enchanting Pennycress Inn, eagerly volunteering to assist with the highly anticipated annual carnival, a beloved event that draws the community together and showcases the village's vibrant spirit.
During her preparations for the festivities, Nicola unexpectedly crosses paths with Charlie, a brooding newcomer who has recently inherited his late uncle’s farm. With his city charm and rugged good looks, Charlie seems to be a man haunted by the fact that his late uncle left him a farm. He has temporarily left his big city job to prepare the farm for sale. Initially, their interactions are marked by playful banter and sharp retorts, providing moments of levity amid their contrasting personalities.
As they spend time together amidst the carnival preparations, the chemistry between Nicola and Charlie becomes increasingly undeniable. Their guarded hearts, each nursing wounds from their past, begin to soften as they navigate the ups and downs of rural life. Watching their relationship evolve is a delightful journey filled with tender moments and genuine connection, delivering pure escapist joy.
With a writing style that flows effortlessly and captures the essence of small-town charm, this read is not only easy to follow but also utterly adorable, making it a perfect escape into a world of love, laughter, and second chances.
I loved Nicola and Charlie's story in Falling in Love at Pennycress Inn by Sarah Hope, book two in the Pennycress Inn series, a sweet, charming, and story, set in the small picturesque Cotswold village of Meadowfield.
Nicola Fields is still struggling with the emotional fallout after her painful breakup with her unfaithful fiancé Nathan. Seeking solace and distraction, she occupies herself with her duties at the enchanting and cozy Pennycress Inn; a place where she grew up while her mother managed the Inn for many years. She enjoys working in familiar surroundings and gets along well with the new owner, Laura and her fiancé Jackson.
The Village is getting ready for its annual carnival, managed by Nicola’s friend Jill for several years. Nicola is asked to help by visiting the owner of Little Mead Farm to ask for his assistance about borrowing the trailers and space to get them ready for the Carnival. The visit is a disaster; she discovers Farmer Williams is dead and his nephew Charlie, a city boy who inherited the farm, is getting it ready for sale. He is does not want to waste time with local events.
As they spend time together amidst the carnival preparations, the chemistry between Nicola and Charlie becomes increasingly undeniable; discovering they have a lot in common, including heartbreak and trusting people. Their guarded hearts, each nursing wounds from their past, begin to soften as they navigate the ups and downs of rural life. Suddenly, all Nicola wants is for this reluctant farmer to stay, and make a real home at Little Mead Farm. Watching their relationship evolve was a delightful journey filled with tender moments and a genuine connection. I can’t wait for more stories from the Pennycress Inn.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. #NetGalley #Boldwood #FallingInLoveAtPennycressInn
Falling in Love at Pennycress Inn by Sarah Hope was a gift that came along at exactly the right time in my reading. I had need of a light and happy-ending book, and there it was! Nicola had returned to Pennycress Inn and its new owner after she discovered her fiance romancing another woman: his secretary. Nicola also worked for him so after she kicked him out, she quit her job. She was so happy she had. She had grown up at the Inn when her mother ran it; it was home. And Laura, the new owner was doing so well with it. Nic was doing PR and social media and she knew she was helping make a success of it. She volunteered to help with the carnival and got assigned to obtaining the remaining two farmers’ commitments to loan tractors and trailers for the parade. The last farmer was a favorite of hers so she was looking forward to seeing him. Instead she faced his very grumpy nephew. Farmer Williams had died and this man was here in his stead, and gave her a very firm,”No!” Several times.
The characters were a lovely as only characters in a small town can be. Nic’s ex caused a few problems but she was firm and he went away. Farmer Williams’ nephew proved to be a revelation. Holding weddings at the Inn proved to be a revelation as well. This is a romance so we all know how it ends, but getting there was fun. Watching Nic ride her bike everywhere after her car got repossessed (the ex) was entertaining and the runaway sheep, known to Nic as Claudette provided a laugh or two. The whole thing was just happy and worth a read if one is looking for an uplifting afternoon.
I was invited to read Falling in Love at Pennycress Inn by Boldwood Books. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #BoldwoodBooks #SarahHope #FallingInLoveAtPennycressInn
Now before we get into the nitty gritty of this storyline Falling in Love at Pennycress Inn is best to say this is an Ahhh sort of book that looks at love, love gone sour, cats, along with life in a small village and has wide appeal to the romantic in us all. Nicola Fields has had her love life trashed, broken into little pieces by her long time, but cheating partner Nathan. She is heart sore but slowly accepting the changes in her life are for the better. She has a job working at the Pennycress Inn, a place she grew up as her mother managed the Inn for many years. She enjoys working in familiar surroundings and gets on well with the new owner, Laura. The Village is getting set to put the annual Meadowfield Carnival created and managed by Nicola’s friend Jill for several years. Nic is coopted in to help and asked to go and visit the owner of Little Mead Farm to ask for his assistance about borrowing the trailers and space to do them up for the Carnival. The visit is a disaster; she discovers Farmer Williams is dead and his nephew Charlie, is getting the farm ready for sale. He is not happy about wasting time with local events. As the weeks tick past he and Nicola are thrown into each other’s pathways through circumstance and find they have a lot in common, which includes heartbreak and trusting people. When Nicola begins to believe in a happy every after with Charlie things begin to go badly wrong, leaving heartbreak once again her constant companion. Falling in Love at the Pennycress Inn is a romance for romantics that love a wealth of detail in the plot line, a slow burn of a story and a happy ending.
Nicola, newly single, from a cheating boyfriend, ends up getting a job at Pennycress Inn, a place that her mother used to manage when she was younger. Nicola thinks that this will be exactly what she needs to return to a place she loves and feels like home to help heal her.
Meanwhile, the village is looking forward to the annual summer Carnival and Nicola asked to help by going and getting some local farmers to lend their tractors and trailers for the parade and events. Nicola had to Little Mead Farm where she remembers the old farmer who used to live there and is excited to touch base with him again only to find out that he is deceased and his nephew Charlie has taken up his late Uncle‘s farm. Charlie does not seem thrilled to see Nicola and refuses the lend of the tractor and trailers.
Nicola, decides to try to appeal to his sense of honour by reminding him that his uncle loved the festival and always donated and was very involved. Charlie reluctantly agrees to allow the usage, but only if the townspeople will not bother him further. He plans on selling as soon as possible and going back to his city life. Nicola and Charlie have a few run-ins, that lead to sparks flying and quickly they become enamoured wit one another, but Nicola has to remind herself that Charlie will be leaving soon and not to get her heart brokem again.
Thsi was such a cute book, an enjoyable read, Thsi author's books always leave yu with a smile. I look forward to more book by this author.

Meet Nicola, still reeling from a painful breakup with her unfaithful fiancé, she begins rebuilding her life in her hometown, Meadowfield. She throws herself into her work at the dreamy Pennycress Inn, volunteering to help with the annual carnival, which runs her right into the grouchy newcomer inheriting his late uncle’s rundown farm. His plan? Fix it up, sell it off, and head straight back to London. At first, Nicola sees no issue with his departure plans. But as she slowly chips away at his tough exterior, she discovers a kind, thoughtful man beneath the grump. And suddenly, all she wants is for this reluctant farmer to stay — and make a real home at Little Mead Farm.
took me a minute to get into but I loved this read! Such sweet and considerate friendships and blossoming relationships! Charlie is hard around the exterior at first but once he cracks, he is just so kind! I really like him. Bless poor Nicola, her ex breaking her heart and then still having the nerve to mess with her. I love her willingness to help and how obviously she adores her friends and community. love trixie and claudette and all the hens! I loved this book and definitely want to go back and read the first book, Welcome to Pennycress Inn! Love the small town vibe and the closeness of the community. Overall a feel good read!

My Opinion
Falling in Love at Pennycress Inn was a great addition to the Pennycress Inn series. Sarah Hope has created some great characters for this series. A sweet, heart-warming novel. A quick and easy read.
Bad summary: Couple is baffled by how long-distance relationships work.
🌷 Grumpy x sunshine 🌷 British countryside 🌷 Community 🌷 Insta love 🌷 Cat companion
This is the book that made me realize I don’t like cozy romance. It’s a sweet story. It’s just so low stakes and written in such a way that it took me months to read because I kept literally falling asleep.
Also, in grumpy x sunshine, there’s a fine line between adorably grumpy man with a heart of gold and grumpy man who is actually an emotionally immature jerk who starts being nice once he’s attracted to the FMC. This book unfortunately lands on the latter side for me. It doesn’t help that his interest in her feels like a light switch; there’s very little transition from dislike to being madly in love.
For the writing itself, everything is over-explained if that makes sense. Nothing is left for the reader to fill in, which also means that there’s just a lot of exposition happening about how they’re standing or what their hands are doing. This style of writing makes scenes read a bit slow and dry.
But if you’re looking for a very relaxing stroll through the Cotswolds that feels like chatting with an old friend, then you might like this book.

Falling in Love at Pennycress Inn is the charming second book in the Pennycress Inn series. Full disclosure: I have not read the first book yet. I have it in my library to read and will definitely get it read. I wasn't lost throughout the book but I know I'm missing some key details about the Inn and some of whom I assume are recurring characters.
Nicola Fields' first encounter with Charlie Williams leaves a lot to be desired. He's not who she was expecting when approaching the Williams farm. Plus, he was short with her, rude, and not all interested in continuing the legacy of Little Mead Farm. The village needs him to participate in the local festival but he is resistant. One of the many things I love about Nicola is her persistence.
As Nicola and Charlie continue to cross paths, and eventually spend time together during the carnival prep, their chemistry becomes more evident. I loved watching the romance slowly unfold. Their characters were wonderfully developed, three-dimensional, and full of personality.
This is such an amazing book! I loved the story, characters, romance, and setting. I was hooked from the very page and kept engaged throughout. The book is filled with excellent imagery and character development. The author's writing is fluid, the pacing is perfect, and the story so easy to devour that I reached the end much too quickly. I was captivated by Nicola and Charlie's story.
I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for allowing me the privilege to read this book.
I enjoyed this book a lot, there were some times that interactions seemed a little weird. Not in a bad way it's kind of hard to explain, there were just times I had to go back and double check parts, because I would be confused for a minute. Eventually though they would be fixed, but at random seeming times. It was just a little hard to follow. I didn't realize this book is a second in a series, and this issue doesn't stem from that. You can totally read this book without reading the first.
However despite all of that I can't wait to read the first and as much as I can by this author. Reading this book though you can get around what I said above it's not enough to through you off track and it's one of the best romance books I've read in a while. This is comfy and cozy, and it reads like you're watching a hallmark movie, which is why the above doesn't matter that much for me this time around. It is truly a hallmark movie in book form. A book to come back too over and over again when you want fun, happiness and comfort and I loved it!
Thank you so very much again for allowing me to read this great book I can't wait to read more and I am so grateful to have this book finally bring me out of my reading slump!
The second in the series follows on from the first, but centres this time on Nicola who works there. She was brought up in Pennycress Inn and has a special affinity with it. You can read this as a standalone but of course the first story would fill in more of the background, especially about the village characters. The community of Pennycress is as busy as ever, and it looks as though Pennycress Inn is going to return to the centre of its plans. When Nicola meets up with a newcomer, Charlie, she realises that he is not going to be the amenable farmer his uncle always appeared. It is fair to say that Charlie has to work out where he wants his future to be. Life in the village is very different from the city life he has built for himself. Romance is always in the background, from the wedding which is hosted at Pennycress Inn to Laura and Jackson's developing relationship. Nicola has a broken heart and an unlikeable ex to recover from but finds herself wondering if a long distance relationship could survive. I loved the charming setting with the cast of lively villagers and even a runaway sheep for humour. This is a warm and gentle read to while away a summer's day. In short: grumpy-sunshine Thanks to the publisher
In the latest book in the Pennycress Inn series, readers follow Nicola, a local from Meadowfield in the Cotswolds, as she finally gets a job in her home town. With the entire village anticipating the annual summer carnival, Nicola is happy to help out with the planning until Charlie, the new owner of Little Mead Farm and on sabbatical from his City job, refuses to help. Even though the farm has been in his family for generations, Charlie has no desire to live in the country and work on the farm and with the village. As Nicola and Charlie continue to interact and talk, feelings grow and there’s more at stake than the summer carnival’s success, but their relationship has a deadline neither of them are willing to think about. Packed with characters and set against a whimsical backdrop, readers will love this small town-city and grumpy-sunshine romance novel because Nicola and Charlie are well-written and complex characters. The setting is beautiful, cozy, and charming, and readers will love returning to Meadowfield in this new novel. Perfect for fans of cozy rural romance novels with great characters, beautiful settings, and fun tropes, this is a fantastic addition to Sarah Hope’s new series.
Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the advance copy.
Falling in Love at Pennycress Inn is everything you want in a summer romance: warm-hearted, gently humorous, and full of community spirit. Sarah Hope delivers a story that feels like a mini holiday—complete with charming villagers, scenic countryside, and just the right amount of romantic tension.
Nicola is a relatable and grounded heroine, returning home to the picturesque Pennycress Inn after a tough few months. Her task to round up tractors for the village carnival seems simple—until she crosses paths with Charlie, the grumpy (but handsome!) city boy turned reluctant farmer. Their banter is a delight, the chemistry is undeniable, and watching their guarded hearts slowly soften is pure escapist joy.
Set against the backdrop of a vibrant summer festival and the cozy Cotswold village of Meadowfield, this book is brimming with charm. It’s low-drama, high-comfort, and just the right pick for a relaxing afternoon by the sea or under the sun.
Whether you're a longtime romance reader or just looking for a cheerful, easy beach read, Falling in Love at Pennycress Inn delivers everything it promises—and then some.
Another fantastic installment to the Cotswold series… Nicola grew up with her childhood being at Pennycress Inn but after returning back to her roots after a period living elsewhere she is now working at her old family home. It’s time for the annual summer carnival where all the locals get involved including all the farmers who lend their tractors and trailers as floats for the occasion, this year however Nicola is given the task of going and confirming with the owner of Littlemead farm that the arrangement is still valid - BUT when she arrives and find a miserable grumpy farmer there instead who turns out to be the original farmers nephew that has been left the farm in his uncles will states he will not allow usage of any property at all for the carnival. Other problems arrise when Nathan, Nicolas two timing ex boyfriend turns up and causes nothing but trouble for her she wonders will she ever be happy again?
Can the village residents rescue the carnival without the extra help or will they have to resort to some other way of displaying the floats…. will the nephew change his mind I wonder?
‘Falling in Love at Pennycress Inn’ by Sarah Hope is a mesmerizing and delightful novel that captured my attention from the very first sentence. The story follows Nicola, who starts working at the Pennycress Inn after a difficult few months and soon crosses paths with a grumpy newcomer—more city man than country farmer.
The characters are wonderfully developed, beautifully showcasing both the romance and the heartwarming community spirit. I absolutely adored the chemistry between Nicola and Charlie, as well as revisiting the beloved characters from the previous installment. I always admire how authors skilfully highlight the importance of close-knit communities through meaningful side characters, and Sarah Hope does this brilliantly.
Set against the charming backdrop of the Cotswolds, the plot flows flawlessly. I truly felt as if I were wandering through the idyllic village paths while reading.
This book is perfect for readers who enjoy wholesome romances in picturesque settings, with a gentle pace and heartfelt emotion—ideal for fans of Debbie Macomber, Heidi Swain, or Sarah Bennett.
An amazing story . Full of emotions , I laughed and cried so many times I can't count . Nicola is working at the Pennycress Inn where she grow up since her mother used to run it when she was kid . She been single after 8 years since she caught her boyfriend Nathan with his assistant 5 months ago but he still causes her troubles . When her friend Jill is having problems with managing the Carnival she tells her that she will help her . Her job is to ask the farmers to loan their tractors and trailers . The only farmer who is denying her is the new owner of the Little Mead Farm Charlie who is the nephew of Farmer Williams . Charlie is from London and he is in Meadowfield only to fix the farm so he can sell it and go back to his life . While he always he denies her doing what she wants from him he always does it . Nic and Charlie start a relationship but and at a corner of her mind is always the truth that he has to go back to London . At the end what will he choose ? I loved both Trixie and Claudette . I received this book from netgalley , the author and the publisher as an ARC . Thank you . All thoughts and opinions are my own .
In the village of Meadowfield, Nicola works with Laura at the Pennycress Inn. Nicola is separated from Nathan who has moved in with his girlfriend Kerry. Nicola loses her car after Nathan stops paying the EMI for it, which he was to cover in lieu of other funds he was due to pay her. The village carnival is coming up and Nicola goes over to Farmer Williams seeking help with some farm equipment. To her shock, she finds that the friendly and gracious Farmer Williams has died, and his nephew Charlie now owns and manages the farm. Charlie intends to sell the farm, and flatly declines to help. Though they are off to a bad start, they gradually start understanding each other better.
I understood later that this the second Pennycress Inn book, but I had no problem following the story. Nicola, Charlie & Laura are good loveable characters, and the feel of the village is nice. There is not much novelty in the story, but I found it relaxing. A nice easy to read story.
My rating: 3.75 / 5.
Thanks to Netgalley, Boldwood Books & the author for a free electronic review copy.
'...has the freedom she's been enjoying finally turned her feral?'
Claudette, our favourite woolly friend, is back and as feisty as ever in this, the second book in Sarah Hope's Pennycress Inn series. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC for this, but when I discovered there was an audiobook, I was straight in there, and I listened to it in just a day. I get through so many more books in the summer when I'm outside weeding and whatnot, with my AirPods in!
As always, I fell in love with all the characters and of course I was rooting for Nicola and Charlie, right from the get-go. I loved Charlie. Mr Grumpy, who pretends he isn't falling in love with Meadowfield and its inhabitants, and especially one in particular. Many of the characters from the first book make an appearance, Laura and Jackson, stern old Miss Cross and of course Claudette the sheep!
English country romances are one of my absolute favourites, and in this one, I loved the essence of quintessential village life. The fun, the friendship, knowing everyone and being able to pop into the pub for a drink and knowing that there will be someone in there to talk to!
Thank you to Boldwood Books for the opportunity to read, listen to and review Falling in Love at Pennycress Inn by Sarah Hope.
Nicola, still hurting from discovering her fiancé was cheating on her, has thrown herself into her new job at Pennycress Inn and re-entering village life, including volunteering to help with the annual village carnival. She goes to see Farmer Williams to ask if they can borrow 2 tractors & trailers for the float parade as usual. Unfortunately, she encounters not the genial Farmer Williams she remembers from her childhood but Farmer Grumpy Williams, his nephew! Despite her pleas Charlie Williams refuses to help as he is too busy restoring the farm following his uncle’s death so he can sell it and return to London.
A really enjoyable cosy, slow-burning romance. Both Nicola and Charlie have had bad relationships in the past, and in Nicola’s case, the bad relationship keeps causing problems and popping up with outrageous demands, making her wary of trusting anyone again.
This is the second book in the series and can be read as a standalone book, the first is ‘Welcome to Pennycress Inn’ again a very enjoyable book and worth reading before this one
This sweet second book in the Meadowfield series is like a cozy hug. It was so nice to return to the charming Pennycress Inn, now a lively little spot thanks to Laura and Jackson’s hard work.
This time, we follow Nicola, who’s still nursing a broken heart after a rough breakup. She throws herself into life at the inn and volunteers to help with the village’s beloved annual carnival. That’s where she meets Charlie—a city guy with a broody vibe who’s inherited his uncle’s farm and isn’t quite sure what to do with it.
Their banter is fun, their chemistry builds slowly, and watching them open up to each other is heartwarming. Both are carrying emotional baggage, but their story unfolds in such a natural, gentle way. Add in a festive village backdrop and plenty of small-town charm, and you’ve got a lovely escape full of warmth and second chances.
If you love feel-good romances set in idyllic little villages, this one’s for you.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books For an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
So lovely to return to Pennycress Inn And to Meadowfield, the community and folks therein. Not forgetting Claudette who is always up to mischief From whom the villagers would welcome relief!
As the summer carnival date nears There are organisational fears Can enough tractors and trailers be found To enable all the group floats to go round?
Nicola agrees to help and plans are made For her to ask the last farmer for his aid. She’s shocked to discover the farmer she knew Has passed away, leaving the farm to his nephew.
The nephew proves intransigent, with an adamant, “No!” Leaving Nicola wondering where next to go. But sometimes first impressions should not be heeded As later rethinks may well be needed.
With ex troubles and fresh chances A beautiful wedding and romances This is a heartwarming read, One I hope you’ll also need.
For my copy of this book I say thank you As I share with you this my honest review.
The second book by Sarah Hope set in Meadowfield and at Pennycress Inn, this was another easy read, and one that could be read as a standalone.
Nicola is now working at Pennycress Inn, the place where she grew up when her Mum ran it. Wanting to help her friend organise the village carnival she is tasked with speaking to the local farmers about lending their tractors and trailers, what she is not expecting is there to be a new owner at Little Mead Farm. Charlie has inherited his uncle’s farm and not wanting to get involved in village life refuses to help Nicola or the carnival. Nicola is not willing to give up and she and Charlie end up spending more and more time together.
Both Nicola and Charlie are lovable characters and ones that have an instant spark. We get to see the two of them come into their own during the book and grow closer in the process.
Although a little predictable, this was a great book to get lost into, especially for some light-hearted relief. With lovable characters, the return of Claudette the sheep and lots of romance it was hard to put it down.
I really enjoyed this book, it was easy to read, fun, light-hearted and full of romance. The perfect summer escapism.
