If you are a fan of ghost stories of all kinds like I am, you'll love this book. I've had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know the author, here in my home town of Greensboro, North Carolina. Her beginnings in life and as a young woman were on the coast of North Carolina, and her stories reflect a deep love and understanding of coastal life. The pirate stories are the stars of the book in my opinion. Cynthia goes the extra mile with the photography included to highlight stories, and the big finish to the book is her own family recipes for coastal eating wherever you live. I read one story each night at bedtime until it was all done and then I read the recipes. It was delightful. In a couple of weeks I will be going to one of Cynthia's live performances as a folk storyteller and I can't wait. Please take a look at her website: www.folkteller.com to learn more about her work and her writing.
I enjoyed reading this book of ghost stories from the NC coast. I also enjoyed that the author included her own little notes and stories about the stories she was telling. I found myself laughing at some parts and at others, wanting to go and experience the places myself. I really enjoyed the stories about Blackbeard as well as the one about Theodosia Burr. Will definitely be checking out this author's other works.
