Over the course of 15 years, author Mark Wegman researched original railroad company drawings, records, and even paint chips to render 180 color profiles, front view, top views, and interior layouts representing the steam, diesel, and electric locomotives and the passenger cars of more than 40 of the most celebrated golden-age "name" trains across the nation. Wegman's drawings are accompanied by histories of each train and dozens of period photographs, postcards, menus, luggage stickers, and print ads. The result is a lavishly appointed journey back in time to the zenith of the US passenger train travel.
A great coffee table book! For any reader who is interested in trains or vintage photographs, this is a great book. The best illustrated train book I've ever read. Showing floorplans, color schemes, and postcards from various passenger train railways, the reader will learn the history and different luxurios passengers enjoyed back then.
A lavishly illustrated picture book of American passenger trains from the 1920s through the 1960s. The text descriptions are short but well-written. I'm happy with this book; it will go in the "keep" pile and find its way onto my bookshelf.
