The Heartwood Series #2

The Boyfriend Boycott

Rate this book
We’re friends with benefits because I’ve sworn off relationships—but he’s determined to not be just another fling…

Grady Landry and I agreed on two one night, and no strings attached. That was before we started working together. Now, he’s determined to win me over, and the boundaries of my self-imposed relationship ban are getting blurrier by the second.

When my mess of a mother shows up in town, and my life starts falling apart at the seams, the aftermath reminds me why I enacted the boyfriend boycott to begin with. The women in my family have a terrible track record with men, and Grady is just my type—which means he’ll ruin my life if I let him.

Until he starts to prove that not all relationships are destined to fail. He shows up for me in every way that counts, he makes me feel at home like I never have before—and my resolve is weaker than ever.

Maybe Grady is right. Maybe he and I are inevitable.

The Boyfriend Boycott is a sworn-off relationships, one night stand, friends with benefits, contemporary romance with a guaranteed happily ever-after! It is the second book of The Heartwood Series and can be read as a standalone.

This book was so good tbh , it highlighted so many aspects in my own traumas tbh . It hit home a bit too close . There was so many funny parts though I still had a great laugh , and sometimes you wanted to yell at the FMC like get your shit together, even if you understand why she spiraled so much , but in the end it was absolutely great , and id definitely read more of the series!

The Boyfriend Boycott is a slow burn, he fall first romance which starts as a friends with benefits agreement. Spencer is free spirited and doesn’t believe in relationships thanks mainly to her upbringing and Grady’s main role in his life is supporting his family and always putting others first. This heartfelt story with real characters and a supportive friendship group was a joy to read. I received a complementary copy from NetGalley.

I loved this book! The characters, Spencer and Grady were so fun to get to know. I got mad at Spencer SO many times for being a stubborn idiot! But that's the point. She had trauma and had some things to figure out before she could really see how wonderful Mr. Perfect was. And he really is perfect. The things he says are what every girl wants to hear and OMG his dirty-talk is a HOT! He goes from cinnamon roll/golden retriever to the tattooed steamy/sexy take charge male in a snap that makes me swoon. There's no way Spencer could NOT give in and fall in love with the man who calls her Rebel. I also loved the dual POV. Their personalities were so clear and easy to read too. I haven't read the first book yet since I got an ARC but I will definitely have it on my TBR. This was a stand alone technically so any order is fine.

⭐⭐⭐⭐🌶️🌶️🌶️
“You and I both know that this isn’t the last time, Rebel,” he murmurs. “You and I are inevitable, and if you can’t see that yet, let me see it for the both of us.”

"I want Spencer to feel how badly I need her, how being with her is the single most important thing to me. I’m going to show her how it feels when I look her in the eyes and make love to her."

"I thought I had seen the extent of Spencer’s beauty today in that store, but here, on her knees, she is a beauty not of this world. I would do anything to be worthy of it, of her."

Thank you so much @megrileyauthor and @sunnybabepr for this ARC!

“Whatever you need to do, Spence, you do it. If you need to travel the world, go back to Vancouver, I’m on board. I will love you from over here like I have done for the last year. I’ve waited before, I can do it again. Don’t for one second believe that this thing between us is over once you leave.”

💭 My thoughts
This was my first ARC and I'm so glad that it was! I love the found family and small-town vibes so much. The romantic plot paired with the plot to save this small town from big corp was perfect and heart-warming. Megan's writing flows so nicely and the advice she shares through some of her characters is advice we can all relate to. Spencer & Grady are such a perfect couple. I loved Grady's steadiness and Spencer's chaos, the character growth that we get to see for both characters, and of course a happy ending for everyone. Plus, the spice is.. shall we say, spiced throughout? All of those creative and spur of the moment spicy scenes! fans self Highly recommend this read if you need something to make you feel good.

⚠️ Trigger warnings
- Sexually explicit scenes
- Mature language
- Themes around housing instability

------ ARC REVIEW -------

This is Meg Riley's second book and it was so so so good! The Boyfriend Boycott was fast paced, engaging and written beautifully. From the beginning I felt like I was connected to the characters and honestly felt like I was part of the small town vibes. Spencer was definitely a bit stubborn at times (and got on my nerves because of it, but in a good way). Spencer's quirks made her relatable and feel like she was a friend.

I have not always been a fan of a dual POV, but Meg did such a great job of it. It highlighted both of the character's personalities and helped elevate the story. Both of them come from very real trauma that I know a lot of people can relate to. Hearing the story told from both of them helped move the story along and helped to understand the town and everything so much better.

It was the perfect mix of romance and spice.

My favorite quote from the book: "you and I are inevitable, and if you can't see that yet, let me see it for the both of us."

ARC REVIEW!

She’s sworn off relationships. He’s determined to be the exception. What starts as a “no-strings” fling turns into all the feelings, proving that sometimes the heart doesn’t care about your rules. Full of sharp banter, swoony moments, and just the right amount of emotional chaos. (and don’t forget the spice!) Perfect for anyone who’s ever said, “I’m done with dating”—and totally lied.

i had no idea that this was a second in a series, so i will 100% be going back to read the first one to see how Mason & Ally really got together as i just love how pure their relationship seemed in this book!!

i adored this slow burn relationship between the two main characters, especially because he fell first (and harder) !!! i loved flicking between the two characters, and seeing their dynamic from both perspectives as it was written so well. the only reason this isn't a 5 stars for me is because sometimes i did get mad at Spencer for running away but it is very understandable due to her past traumas.

this was such a fun read, and i just loved the joy both characters radiated, and it has now made me want to move to a small town in the middle of the mountains!!!

thank you sunnybabepr for the arc copy🤍

Grady has known what he wanted since day one he just has to convince her that it's what she wants to. The patience he had for her and the way he showed her with his actions of the true meaning of caring and being aware. The banter was so good.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The Boyfriend Boycott by Meg Riley! This book releases on February 18, 2025!
Thank you Sunny Babe Pr and Meg Riley for this ARC!

This book healed something in me. 💜 I don’t know how else to put it! I loved everything about it! Sorry to break it to you ladies, but Grady is MY book boyfriend! I’m so in love with him! I feel like I related so much to Spencer, she had to grow up fast, and learn to be independent, which is similar to my own life! I totally related to her distrust in relationships, and was shocked to see it in writing!

This book was fun, spicy, sexy, and downright adorable! Highly recommend checking it out!!

4.5 Star Review

The Boyfriend Boycott by Meg Riley is a steamy, fast paced rom-com in a small town setting with amazing well developed characters that have immense growth throughout the story. Thank you @Sunnybabepr for sending me an ARC copy of this Book. It is the second book in The Heartwood Series, which are interconnected standalones. I didn’t read the first book in the series, but as a standalone, it wasn’t necessary, at no point did I feel that I was missing any key elements of the story.

The book follows Grady, a tattooed, motorcycle driving, bar owner, who (besides being obsessed with the FMC) discovers that restaurant chains and big corporations are trying to overturn a law that only allows town locals to have businesses. He knows this will have a negative impact on his small town and is determined to do anything to stop it from happening. Our other main character, Spencer, has lived her entire adult life avoiding anything and everything permanent. She is a travel blogger, which has afforded her the lifestyle of not staying in one place for too long and able to avoid establishing roots or serious relationships. But she’s not receiving contracts as often as she used to and becomes fearful of not having a secure income that will allow her to continue affording her independent lifestyle. Her current, and final contract, brings her to Heartwood, where she catches up with her childhood best friend, Ally, who’s married to Grady’s brother. Sparks fly from the very first moment Grady & Spencer are together, every encounter is full of funny & witty banter. Their attraction is undeniable, which is why they spend the night together. A night that Spencer, is adamant will not be repeated. Spencer is sure she just needs to avoid Grady until her contract is up and she leaves town. That is until an opportunity, that will be beneficial for both of them, comes up and she’s forced to spend more time with Grady. Since resisting each other seems to be futile they establish a friends with benefits agreement. But the rules established to avoid attachment are slowly broken and the lines begin to blur.

Even though I truly enjoyed this book, it wasn’t a five star read for me, because some key moments were a bit predictable (but no less amazing because of it). It is a dual POV story and even though there is no third act breakup, you still have to read through the constant conflicting feelings of both main characters and even without the ‘breakup’ there is still some heartbreak. Overall, I definitely recommend this book, it was a great, funny read, with complicated, and in depth characters that will hook you in from the start. Grady will definitely be a contender for your favorite book boyfriend roster. If you loved ‘Just for the Summer’ by Abby Jimenez, you will love this book. It has many similarities, but with way more spice. The ending is a guaranteed HEA, that was absolutely perfect.

Meg you have done it once again, I still can’t believe this is your second book you have ever written! I love your fast pace, engaging and funny writing! I felt so connected to these characters. Grady cinnamon roll personality and the way he loves so hard. Then there’s Spencer I resonated a lot with her about her fierce independence, aspirations and her guarded personality.

This is was my favourite of the two that’s for sure!! So thank you for giving this amazing book I can’t wait for the next one!!

“you and i both know that this isn’t the last time, rebel. you and i are inevitable, and if you can’t see that yet, let me see it for the both of us.”

this was my first time reading anything by meg and i will definitely be going back and reading the first book in this series ASAP!! i absolutely loved this book so much! it was fun and easy to read. though this book is part of a series, i never once felt confused or found it hard to follow along with the characters/storyline! it was so easy to fall in love with the main characters in this story. i fell in love with their individual stories as well as their building romance!

spencer and grady were such fun characters to read about, i simply couldn’t get enough of them! the chemistry between them was off the charts and their banter was everything. they were honestly both what the other needed and it was just so sweet seeing them lean on and support each other. i especially loved how patient grady was with spencer and he never pressured her into doing anything she wasn't ready for. and while their friends-with-benefits arrangement was doomed from the beginning, it was fun watching them try, and fail, to resist their inevitable connection.

overall this was such a cute and fun read! i can’t wait to read meg’s future work and i cannot wait for the next book in this series! once again thank you so much to sunnybabepr and meg riley for providing me with this arc 💚

Travel influencer Spencer is just about at the end of her latest contract and spending some quality time with her best friend. Grady, her bestie's brother-in-law, is prime eye candy, but after a close encounter in the pantry, they decide to get this attraction out in a one night stand. Spencer sets ground rules to protect them and their friends when they inevitably split ways. However, Spencer doesn't count on Grady pulling out all the stops to try and convince Spencer of his feelings or that she will need his help in securing her next influencer contract. The benefits of their arrangement turn the tables on her, and Spencer is faced with the realization that she can have everything she's been denying herself and that Grady is dying to give her.

Travel-for-a-living meets the epitome of small-town life in this culture clash between migrant Spencer and rooted Grady. She's convinced independence and self-reliance are the only way to survive, but he's determined to show her the benefits of having a community and support system. I loved their opposites attract mannerisms and how Grady is constantly trying to give Spencer all he has to offer. Their mutual friends group is all in his favor, and the side eye alone from Spencer's bestie fueled a lot of thinking on Spencer's part. Relationships take work, and Grady went above and beyond time after time to give Spencer the option and safety net of having somewhere safe after understanding her choices. He was so devoted to her happiness and unspoken desire to feel loved.

Thank you to @sunnybabepr and @megrileyauthor for sending me this book for the opportunity to review it!

Another tattooed MMC? I definitely have a type 😍 and Grady completely stole my heart! He’s the perfect cinnamon roll – kind, patient, and so easy to love. Meanwhile, Spencer is strong-willed and determined, having sworn off relationships to focus on herself. Their chemistry? Off the charts. The pining, the tension, the will they/won’t they of it all had me absolutely hooked. 😩🔥

I love a good small-town romance, and Heartwood is the kind of place I need to be immersed in again. The cosy vibes, the close-knit community, the way everyone is in each other’s business – it all adds so much charm to the story. Plus, the one-night stand/friends-with-benefits to lovers trope was so well done. Watching Spencer and Grady navigate their feelings while Spencer tried (and failed) to keep things casual, whilst Grady was hopelessly head over heels in love with Spencer from day one, was both frustrating and deliciously satisfying.

The story did feel a little jumpy at times, but I was still loving every second of it. What really stood out to me was Spencer’s growth. Her journey is so admirable and so relatable – working so hard on yourself that you forget to let other people love you. Seeing her slowly open up and allow herself to lean on Grady was incredibly rewarding.

This book has made me need to go back and read book 1 because I’ve absolutely fallen in love with Heartwood. Meg Riley has definitely earned a spot on my must-read list! 💕

Thank you to Sunny Babe PR for the ARC copy and to Meg Riley for an amazing read!
The Boyfriend Boycott was my first Meg Riley book, and it won't be the last! I absolutely LOVED the story of Spencer and Grady! ❤️
Grady- A good-hearted, tattooed bar owner who will do anything to prove his commitment to not only his hometown but to the girl he loves.
Spencer - Her hair matches her personality.🔥🔥 She is a firecracker! A quirky, red head who travels around the world for social media. She's sworn off men for reasons you'll learn later on but has a soft spot for Grady.
Their story and how it developed is chef's kiss. 🤌🤌

Blurb:

Spencer only wants friends with benefits because she's boycotting relationships. Grady is determined to prove that he's more than that.
One night, Spencer and Grady agreed to one night with no strings attached. Soon after, they start working together to save the small town charm of Heartwood. When the two start working together, feelings start to develop regardless of how much Spencer hates to admit it! Things start to get complicated when Spencer's mother comes to town unexpectedly. She is a reminder of why she started the whole boyfriend boycott!
Regardless of the circumstances, Grady is determined to prove he's not like other men and their relationship is meant to be.

The Boyfriend Boycott is the second book of The Heartwood Series and can be read as a standalone.

Thank you Sunny Babe PR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

“The Boyfriend Boycott” by Meg Riley is a small town romance between Grady and Spencer. The two of them have instant chemistry and agree to have a one night stand with no strings attached. After that night, though, it’s hard for them to stay away from each other.

Spencer is a headstrong, independent FMC who has sworn off relationships. She keeps herself guarded at all times and creates rules for Grady’s and her friends-with-benefits arrangement. Spencer’s fear of attachment is well written and relatable. Her need to do everything on her own is shaped by her mother’s terrible track record with men.

Grady is the opposite of Spencer when it comes to wanting a relationship. He wears his heart on his sleeve and is the biggest cinnamon roll. This man does everything - runs the local bar, coaches little league, takes care of his siblings, and even decorates a room for his future niece in his own house! He is beyond thoughtful and shows his love for Spencer through words of affirmation, physical gifts, and experiences. He falls first and patiently waits for Spencer to see that they are inevitable. It was so easy for me to fall in love with Grady while reading. 😍

While I definitely appreciate spicy moments in books, I found the frequency of these scenes to be a bit much. That said, the spice was still enjoyable but I preferred the banter (hello, Rebel 😉) and steamy moments between Spencer and Grady that involved shopping, hiking, and a game of Scrabble.

“The Boyfriend Boycott” is the second book in the Heartwood Series, but it can be read as a standalone. I did not read the first book and still really enjoyed this story! You can find the book on KU starting February 18th 😊

Thank you Meg Riley and Sunny Babe PR for this highly anticipated ARC!

As expected, I easily read this in a single sitting. Writing flowed well, distinct POV chapters and an overall great addition to the Heartwood series.

This was such a sweet and fresh romance that was full of cozy small town charm and some trauma-informed angst. And not to compare book babies here, but I may like this book *a teensy bit* more than Love On Call.

The character work in this book is really commendable. Both main leads were well rounded and so relatable. Meg just has a way of writing beautifully flawed human characters in such a heartfelt and realistic way whilst still managing to pack it neatly in a cute and swoony romance book. Their individual character development and motivations were easy to understand and made sense within the overarching plot line. Because of this, despite it being somewhat of an 'insta-love' situation, I could actually see how their genuine love and affection for each other developed as the book progressed. They showed up for each other and held space when needed.

Though Grady is the perfect book boyfriend (steadfast in his devotion to Spencer, how he prioritises and validates her, rides a motorbike, tattoos, dedicated uncle, master of all the love languages, tall af etc. etc.), I felt Spencer really stole the show (or rather, book) for me. Her personal journey and hustle truly tugged at my heartstrings and the way in which she navigated through this was inspiring. I also appreciated how she has such a great support system with her friends who had no qualms giving it to her straight in a loving and honest way.

Would read again. So keen for Hudson's book!

I had the privilege of getting an ARC copy of The Boyfriend Boycott by @megrileyauthor. Also, huge thanks to @sunnybabepr for this ARC.

HOLY COW! 🐮 It was amazing. 🤌🏼

This book does not disappoint. If you haven’t read a book by Meg then just know that her writing style is top tier. She makes her characters so relatable and easy to adore. Her FMC is easy to connect with and her MMC is so swoon worthy. 🥵

I’ll start with Spencer. She’s a girls girl, spit fire, lives life by her own rules and I found myself relating to SO MANY of her feelings and emotions. Her relationship with her parents is rocky(GIRL SAME) and her emotion is written so well throughout the story. You root for Spence the entire book. The character development with her is outstanding. The growth from beginning to end is mind blowing but in all the best ways. I wish more FMC were written with her drive, ambition and strength. 💪🏼 💭 🥰

Grady. MAN O MAN. 🥵😮‍💨 🤤 I could probably go on for days about the reasons this man is amazing but I’m going to try to sum it up. Grady comes off as a very passive class clown. Always trying to be everything for everyone and make everyone laugh. The further into this book you get the more you realize how complex his character is. He’s so sweet, loves so strongly and protects his people. He is so effortlessly perfect. 🥰 🫶🏼

The family dynamic with Grady’s family is one of my favorite parts. I love the love these brothers have for one another. The strength and support they give one another. Then you have Ally and Spencer. We love a girls girl and that’s what these two are. You find yourself relating and gravitating towards them. 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼

I’m a rambler so if you have gotten to this point in the review, thanks. 😅 I have so much I could say about this book. Seriously just read the book, you won’t regret it. 😍

TROPES

*Cinnamon Roll MMC
*Friends with Benefits

Grady is the towns hot bar owner born and raised in Heartwood. He has the town thinking he doesn’t really take anything serious until his high school classmate comes into town wanting to change everything Heartwood stands for. Needing an image update for himself and the bar he accepts his sister in laws best friends help. He has been wanting her every since he laid eyes on her a year ago.

Spencer is a free butterfly not wanting to be tied down to anything or anyone she finds herself falling for Grady something she swore she wouldn’t do. Having a rough upbringing makes it hard for her to connect in a deeper level.

Grady and Spencer romance throughout the book makes you really fall in love with them. Grady stands by Spencer no matter how much she tries to push him away. Grady is the true definition of cinnamon roll. He cares for her so much that its hard for her not to fall in love with him.

I really enjoyed reading this book by Meg Riley.

Book #2 in The Heartwood Series

After meeting Ally’s best friend Spencer in Love on Call, I was excited to see her get her love story, and which brother she ended up with. 😉 Spencer is very guarded in relationships due to her mom’s past experiences and how that affected her childhood. Thankfully Grady is persistent and knows what he wants (👏🏼🙏🏼🙌🏼) yet was patient as Spencer decided what she wanted for herself.. we love a confident, reassuring king. 🫶🏼 I loved the authenticity and relatability of Grady and Spencer’s relationship. This has been a fun, cutesy series and dare I say this book and Grady & Spencer have been my favourites so far!

This book was okay for me. He falls first, she wants to stay single because she grew up with her mother always relying on men and she doesn’t want to follow in her footsteps.

I love the small-town vibes in this book, Heartwood sounds so quaint and homey, and I want to visit it! I loved how Grady was supporting Spencer’s lifestyle while also trying to win her over at the same time, and how Spencer showed Grady what it was to fight for something important in his life.

A pact forms between the 2 and soon, all the rules get broken in the process of helping each other out, and feelings begin to develop.

Will Spencer and Grady work out? Or will Spencer stick true to her boyfriend boycott?

I loved this for what it was.

I liked both of the MCs and loved their connection. However, they did not catch me so well to where I had this special connection to either.

Even though I related to Spencer because of her non-existent relationship with her mother, that was as far as I liked her. With Grady, I wish that it was different from your typical small town book where the MMC is always falling hard for the FMC. Just wish it was laid out better tbh.

Otherwise, I did like the underlying happenings ... where certain characters finally realized certain things and made decisions based on it. So safe to say there is definitely growth for some characters.

Just like Grady, I fell in love with this small town place 😍

This was a fun read! Grady is such a sexy character. His love for Spencer was so sweet. He just wanted to be the security she was needing. Also, him on a bike, yes please.

Spencer is a character that I've met so many times before. I understand her trust issues and just wanting to find her independence. I am so glad she was able to do that in the end.

4/5🌟 and 3/5🌶

for once i've actually decided to read book one before arc-ing book two and i'm really glad i did it with this one, especially since i could clearly see the growth in the writing. don't get me wrong, i've absolutely loved book one as a debut, it was precious and i had a great time reading it, but it did lack something for me as i felt it moved sometimes a bit quickly and inconsistently, but i feel like book two somehow felt more complete?

i can totally see some readers being a bit impatient with spencer and her stubborness and reluctance towards grady, or relationships in general, due to what she'd been exposed to all her life with her mom, but i really liked that aspect of her character and how it made the ending that more sweet.. how she slowly but surely got to the point where she realizes what really matters to her - the job she thought she wanted or the love she didn't think she deserved. she was such a baddie too.. ❤️‍🔥

grady. what a man. he fell in love the first time they met and he hasn't stopped since. the way he was so sure about them, even when spencer gave him all the reasons not to be, and how patient he was with her, all the big and small things he's done for her.. he was willing to wait for her for however long she needed.. 🥹 i definitely fell in love with this shy-turned-hot man a little bit.. or a lot (and he has tattoos🤭!!)

them ending up together just made so much sense and i loved getting to read about them and their love story!!

🌶️🌶️

The "Boyfriend Boycott" is a slow-burn, friends with benefits, small-town romance sitting at a tasteful 350 pages. Spencer is a free-spirited "you can't tell me what to do, I can do it myself" woman, who is desperately trying to keep her distance from the handsome "just let me love you" Grady. These two have instant connections and lust for one another that while I usually don't enjoy the lust-at-first-sight trope, I'm glad it played out the way it did. This novel reminds me a lot of the movie "No Strings Attached", starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher, circa 2011 bowl haircut, where we have a stubborn female protagonist whom is doing her best to not fall in love. But who can say no to those puppy dog eyes? 🤪 ...Are we talking about Grady or Ashton Kutcher Emily? LOL

Overall, great romance book. So happy I was able to read the ARC.

Thanks to Sunny Babe for this arc.
Rounded up to a 3 but I just don’t think this one was for me. It took me almost a month to read it, I just couldn’t really get into this story. I loved Grady, but Spencer was an annoying FMC for me that literally didn’t show any growth until about 90%. I was hoping there would be mention of therapy or something for her future….

I liked the town issue that was happening and how they came together and really pushed Grady to do more than just settle. I wish we had more with the affair though - that seemed to have been mentioned but no climax or really anything with it?

The romance felt very instalust. He had a one night stand a year and a half ago, fell in love and didn’t stop thinking about her, and then had to be with her when she came back. But he really didn’t know her at all. I’m glad they started to get to know each other but wish there was a little more depth.

This one is a little difficult because I loved the town and everyone in the book, except for the FMC. The writing style was well done, the backdrop of the small town was really nice, but the FMC was determined to stay stagnant. There is zero % character growth on her end, until after 90%, and it’s frustrating. At times, she was actively talking herself OUT of growing. So many times it’s like she almost gets it, but then she runs 100 steps on the opposite direction and we’re starting all over again. She was honestly selfish and not really a great friend.

For the book itself, I think the sex scenes were a little awkward and super short, but ultimately okay. Condom usage was mentioned the very first time and then they were never used again and there was no conversation about diseases or other birth control methods, which is really concerning in this day and age. after the first time they just use the pull out method which we all know is not a viable form of birth control.

⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️Random notes from my read: CAN BE CONSIDERED SPOILERY⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️

* a travel influencer? Eh
* INNER SANCTUM??? Absolutely not
* Was the condom usage the first time just gratuitous? They haven’t used one since then and no conversation was had. Nothin about other birth control like the pill or shot. Nope, just the pull out method
* How are you going to just surprise someone with a speech they need to give, right before they need to give it?? That’s not how you do things if you want them to go well
* A scholarship that you already promised the amount for and if he doesn’t make it at this event, he has to pay out of pocket?!! That’s a terrible surprise
* Gush *shudder*
* How is the girl who doesn’t have a job or a place to stay, out of your league, just because she’s traveled??
* Yeah, it’s official. I don’t like Spencer. Her refusing to shut down Carter when he keeps asking her for a date right in front of Grady is awful. And Carter is right, saying raincheck is the same thing as saying yes, but not right this minute. And then she gets mad when Grady walks them away from him?? And when Grady is clearly having a hard time and seems to be having a mild panic attack, she just walks away to peruse the wall of trophies and team photos? She sucks so much
* “You don’t need to be jealous of Carter”, as you actively don’t turn him down in front of Grady. “You’re cute when you’re jealous”, gross behavior when you’re seemingly making him jealous on purpose
* You’re supposed to be capturing photos of his moments and you spend the whole times he’s making a speech for the scholarship on the phone, caught up in your own nonsense for a job you’re in no way qualified for
* Awesome behavior, Spencer. Lie and tell him you’ll be gone a few days while you’re planning to just leave forever
* Is this actually written by a woman? Water sex does not work like that. Water washes away all natural lubricant
* You need to go back or you’ll lose your place, even if you don’t get the job, except you can’t PAY for that place with that job.
* I hate being at 80% and having no growth from the FMC
* She tells him when she’s leaving, THE DAY BEFORE
* He re-did his whole life for her
* You’re right, you are selfish
* “I’ve had to work harder than most people who go to college”. Um, no. Some of us have had the exact same struggles as her on top of balancing college. That doesn’t make us better than those who didn’t, but it also doesn’t make her better than those of us who did.
* Newborns always have blue eyes…
* I don’t think she told him she loved him a single time in the whole book

Spencer has sworn off relationships due to her super busy lifestyle as an traveling influencer. It isn't until a certain, tattooed, spark-igniting, individual pops back into her life that her walls begin to crumble.

I enjoyed the overall plot of The Boyfriend Boycott. I loved the Canadian setting and references throughout. There was so much unspoken chemistry between the two MC's that I just wanted to reach through the pages and yell " Make it official already!!".

Spencer, a women with big dreams and a girl with a soft heart, has a hard exterior because of how she was raised. She had to grow up too quickly in order to take care of her mother who should have been taking care of her. Through her childhood experience, living with her Mom while her Dad was elsewhere, it lead her to believe that she needed only herself. But, as her walls began to come down, her mind opened to what life could be if she just allowed her self to take a step back to essentially... just breathe. I love the way Spencer is portrayed as she is a women who knows what she wants and will do what it takes to get there, no matter the cost. Though, at the same time, she allows her self to take the step back to think about what she really wants for HER self.

Grady, is a man who will fight for anything he believes in. This includes the Whisky Jack, his friends, family and then Spencer. He has such a soft and gentle nature about him... a lot like a golden retriever. When it comes to Spencer, he had this intense energy where he just wanted to prove to her that she was enough and that it was okay to take a step back and reevaluate life decisions.

I liked how Spencer is standing up for herself when it comes to her mother. She experienced some pretty hard times and did not deserve to be treated how she was. It was mentioned that Spencer will find a way to forgive her mother even if that meant not having a relationship - I thought that was very powerful statement to make. I love that.

The only thing that did not sit well with me was how strong Grady pushed Spencer to stay, both directly and indirectly. I know he had the best intentions but just was maybe a little too much.

Overall though, The Boyfriend Boycott was good from start to end, I liked the strength of both Spencer and Grady in terms of the way they stood up for what they wanted but also gave each other the support of such decisions.

* This is an honest review in exchange for an ARC copy of The Boyfriend Boycott. Thank youuu so much Sunny Babe PR and Meg Riley for this opportunity!!

I absolutely love discovering new and new-to-me authors that I instantly love! Meg Riley is my latest addition to this list. I am kicking myself for not reading her sooner, because she can write romance. The Boyfriend Boycott is book two in her latest series, but easily read as a stand alone. Did I immediately purchase book one though so I can read it? Yes, yes I did!

Grady and Spencer thought they would be a one night only thing. Both thoroughly enjoyed their one night together, but agreeing to no strings they go their separate ways. I loved Grady’s swoony personality! He is a man who knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to fight for it. Spencer has been hurt in the past and although sworn off relationships and is determined to never be in one again.

This dynamic creates tension between these two that is off the charts. Obviously they are attracted to each other, but when they end up working in the same place Grady is determined to show Spencer how good they could be together. I loved the opposites attract aspect of no relationships and wears his heart on his sleeve.

Grady is so patient with Spencer as he continues to show her how great they are together. Yes, sometimes it felt he may have forgotten why she didn’t want a relationship, but he never pushed harder than he should or made her feel uncomfortable. As Spencer slowly let her guard down, he was there to support her every step.

Meg wrote a story that flowed easily and was easy to follow. The banter between our MCs was a delight to read and had me kicking my feet and blushing. Meg’s ability to write human emotion in its rawest form is highlighted throughout this book. With the perfect balance between romance, drama, and spice this book is a must read for any romance lover! I can’t wait for the next one and am beyond thrilled that I discovered Meg Riley!

As always, review any author notes before reading.
