Put the kettle on, pull out your magnifying glass and settle in to solve these gripping British mysteries.
Rina Martin is a force to be reckoned with. She might be retired but her life is still full of drama, mayhem, and the occasional murder to solve!
Rina is not your average amateur sleuth. A retired actress with a long run as TV's beloved detective Lydia Marchant, Rina has traded the bright lights of the stage for the quiet charm of running a B&B in Frantham-on-Sea. With her sharp intuition, no-nonsense attitude, and years of experience in reading people, she’s a natural when it comes to solving the darker puzzles that disturb her seaside town. And while she might frustrate the police with her meddling, even DI McGregor can’t deny her talent for finding answers where others see dead ends.
I have read each of the books in the order in which they were written. That is why I found a continuation of each of the main character’s lives. And each book has one particular murder case. The reader becomes familiar with the town, its people and the on-going life of the main characters. Each story is somehow connected to the previous books. That is why it was easy for me to follow. But someone who reads Book No. 9 first will definitely have a problem remembering each character and their back story.
I really enjoyed these books, so much so I didn't want to reach the end. I must admit I have trouble trying to get my head around so many people introduced in the first chapter. Trying to remember who was who took some concentration but once I was familiar with them I got caught up in their 'family life', and thoroughly enjoyed the 7 of them
I have reviewed each book separately so will just say that this box set was an excellent series of crime dramas with well-developed characters, Rina and her household particularly likeable.
I enjoyed the mix of serious and cosy and the relationships between the main cast.
I found some of the stories too long and strung out, the best ones were involving the 'baddies' working with the 'goodies' especially coming up against old bosses and taking them down!! Least favourite was the last one, it could have been 10 chapters shorter and didn't involve the main characters too much either, as well as being a guessable conclusion
I've generally like Adam's stories but this one goes on and on offering numerous suspects, but in the last 3 pages pops up a person who has been barely mentioned. I not real interested in custody battles between a lousy grandmother and a helpful aunt.
The later in the series the more characters were introduced and it became quite a task to try and remember hiw they fitted in and their contribution to the plot. Interesting characters however and location so relatable.
Enjoy reading sets of books! Get to know the cha ters! Almost like a soap opera or binging on a series on Netflix! Each book was a good read; but gets better and better. I am almost finished!😀💕📚
I found this a quirky and fascinating read. Loved how the characters interweaved with each other. Some ‘straight’, some ‘bolshy’, some ‘eccentric’, some ‘evil’.
