When Isla is captured by the king’s Guardians, an elite group of soldiers, she has two choices: a mercy killing at her brother’s hand or a suicide mission to a mystical isle.
As the last descendant of the sirens, she is the key to unlocking the barriers that have kept humans out of the sanctuary for centuries. But when the king tasks his bastard son and head of the Guardians, Bastian, to escort her to the island, she knows there’s no chance for escape. Bastian will do anything to ensure the mission is completed, sacrificing his rigid morals and his own safety to provide power to a despot.
The island is steeped in myths of dangerous magic, but Isla’s been kept in the dark about what they’re seeking. Instead, she stumbles on something equally perilous—a connection with Bastian that could save or damn them. As Isla and Bastian’s dynamic turns into passionate romance, she must choose between saving themselves or putting their entire world in jeopardy to a dark, insidious magic.

5 STARS ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you’re looking for an incredible romantic fantasy adventure, you’ve found the right book!!! This book gave me so much of what I wanted, yet surprised me in so many ways. The adventure is heart pounding, the emotions of both love and loss will pull at your heart from start to finish and the magical elements are the kind you dream of! Our FMC Isla may be going through a lot, but she is strong and goes on a journey through this book that makes her truly reflect on who she is and what her heart desires. Her journey is intertwined with our MMC Bastian(Bash 😍) who is beyond swoon worthy and is fiercely loyal to those he cares about. Here’s what to expect from you’re next favorite read: 🍑✨🌺✨🌊✨🗡️ •Prisoner x Guard •Secret Identity •Water Magic •Mysterious Island •Spice •He falls first •Bastard son •Touch her and ☠️ •Blue Lagoon meets Lost
I've had a lot of hit and misses with ARCs, but this one was certainly a hit. Probably the best ARC I have ever read! I could have easily devoured this whole book in one sitting (if life didn't keep getting in the way of my reading time!).
Those opening chapters were phenomenal! I've never been hooked so quickly! You get drawn straight into the story, wondering what on Earth is going on between Isla and her brother and how she's going to get out of it.
There's a tragic backstory that gradually gets revealed as the book progresses, and it breaks your heart as more pieces of the puzzle fit together. The story is filled with many secrets, intrigue, mystery ... it keeps you gripped the entire time.
I loved the slow burn romance between Isla and her guardian Bash, where there is undeniable chemistry from the first look which only builds more and more as they spend more time alone together on their journey to the island. I loved Bash's "touch her and d!e" protectiveness over her, and how he is repeatedly willing to give his own life for her.
A fantastically written story with layered characters, a fast-paced plot and intriguing siren-lure - you won't want to put this one down!
A romantic fantasy of grief, sacrifice, love, darkness discovery, and wonder.
With the feel of The Blue Lagoon and the intention of LOST, this story follows Isla and her struggle with protecting her brother, Wil, as well as her own secrets.
Lyrically written and full of fairytale vibes, this story is perfect for summer!
This book was amazing from start to finish. It was the perfect blend of fantasy with tropical dreamscapes. The MMC was so swoon worthy that there were over a dozen quotes I highlighted. Without saying too much since it isn’t released yet, definitely keep this on your radar! I’m so incredibly proud of Tara for giving us this story. It’s a freaking chef’s kiss.
The Siren and The Guardian speaks so many volumes on inner turmoil, dedication to duty and just how much the ways of the laws can leave some in a hole of yearning for hope.
Lead Guardian Bastian and the last Siren Isla are ordered by the king to go on a quest. Isla was ready to allow her sick brother to remove the chances of being discovered but the royal guardians come upon them before Wil had the chance. Isla feelings obligated to helping her brother with his illness so she goes with the guardians. Bastian is the "bastard" unwanted son of the King but his loyalty is quickly known. This is a dark fantasy with delicious spice and impressive emotions showcased. Abso-freakin-lutely Phenomenal!!!!! ✨️📚✨️
I loved all the adventure and mystery, the chemistry between Bash and Isla, and the beautiful plot and worldbuilding. There's intrigue over Isla's siren abilities, suspense from the King's secret schemes, and a building passionate romance between Isla and her guard. The action and adventures on the island were magical, I loved the range of creatures and the way they protected each other. I loved their bond and all the swoony moments, and it was a charming journey.
🪽Taryn’s writing is pure magic. The beautifully written chemistry, mutual respect, and heartfelt protectiveness between the characters make the journey feel intimate and real, leaving you breathless and teary-eyed.
📗Great start to the book, straight into action. I really felt for Isla, living with such a big secret her whole life waiting to be taken and used. 📗The mystery behind their pasts had me enthralled 📗The chemistry was written so well, loved the mutual respect and care for each other that builds and builds. 📗The protectiveness of them both is palpable, made my breath hitch 📗The way they really listen to each and the understanding melts your heart 📗I did well up in some parts, Taryn writing really flows like you are part of the story. 📗The concept was so unique and I was enthralled he whole time.
🍷 A prison is still a prison. Even if it shines and sparkles ✨ 🍷I walk into the hall as I put up my shields, ready for dinner with the devil. 🍷I simply let the water drown everything out until it is just me and the sea, moving as one. 🍷“And for the record, I am much better than Fitz where it counts.” 🍷This man has enraptured me, every part of my body and soul.

This was an easy, fast paced read! I gobbled it up in 2 servings. It felt like a dreamy dark fairytale but with spice🌶️🌶️🌶️.
We start out on a dark note and the story gallops forward from there. This book touches on grief and loss and finding one’s way back to self. Of letting go and moving on. I love how the author highlights the burdens many of us face in the caregiver role. The isolation and weight of helping loved ones suffering with mental health challenges. On how sometimes, all you can do is your best. There will not always be a magical potion. This was so very relatable🤗
While there are some hard themes, there is also a grand adventure! A harrowing trip under the sea and a mysterious island with fun little nuggets of inspiration from The Blue Lagoon and Lost.🖤
We get a capable and strong FMC(Isla) and her cinnamon roll guardian Bastian(Bash😍) forced to venture into a place of magic and monsters. The romance is tender, the burn is slow and the spice is right.🔥
This was a great balance of real and relevant paired with fantasy and romance and perfect for an easy under-the-seas escape ❤️
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
THIS BOOK. My gosh. I signed up to be an ARC for it because of the cover and golly, my heart has been touched by the story. This book had me crying, laugh, kicking my feet in glee and talking out loud to myself when parts came that irked me! It was overall a wonderful read. I don’t think I’ve read a romantic fantasy book that address mental health so that was a pleasant and heart-touching experience. You won’t regret reading this work of art. The characters are absolutely adorable and the growth is excellent throughout the story. I can’t wait to see what Author Tara does next!
Such a great face paced read … fans of sirens and romantasy but not too much world building that it is hard to keep up with .this is it … 4.5 stars ⭐️ from me . Well written with great characters and a plot that sucks you right in … Bash is that guy… strong ,but sweet , touch her and I’ll kick ur butt vibes.. slow burn but also instant attraction…loved it and highly recommend!!!
Isla Rivers is captured by the king’s Guardians just as her life is threatened by her own brother. She has only 2 options. Mercy killing by her brother or a suicide mission to a mysterious island.
As the last descendant of the sirens, Isla is the key to unlocking the mysteries of the island. When the head of the Guardians, Bastian, the king’s bastard son, is tasked with accompanying her on this mission, she knows there is no escape. Especially with the threat over her brother’s life.
The island is full of unknown perils and myths of magic but Isla is unaware of what they are truly seeking. One thing that catches her unawares is the connection between her and Bastian. As it turns into a passionate romance, Isla must choose. Saving themselves or the rest of the world from the dangers sought by the king.
It’s the 3rd book I’ve read from Tara and I must say her writing gets better every time I pick up a book from her. The cover is absolutely stunning, the plot is amazing. The characters are strong yet vulnerable and the FMC and MMC just compliment each other in so many different ways. There are so many twists and turns and the connection between the two is electric.
TW ⚠️ there are mentions of suicide in this book so please tread carefully if this might affect you. I will say though that Tara has dealt with this exceedingly well from my POV.
Definitely a brilliant book that anyone who enjoys a good romantasy filled with intrigue, mystery, sexual tension, and sirens ought to pick up when it releases on the 26th of August. So add it to your TBR now!
Love this book so much! If it weren’t for adulting I would have had it read in one sitting! I’m probably going to get some hate for this comment but….. I don’t usually read fantasy…BUT…seriously this book 😍 It’s an emotional rollercoaster! This gave me all the feels! I love the characters! It’s got grief, sacrifice, love, and mystery. Bash is the new love of my life! Isla is so strong, brave, strong headed, she’s amazing! Think Blue Lagoon/Lost Get it on your TBR or better still, get reading it! You don’t know what you’re missing!
A true romance with an amazing story of fantasy, wonder, and suspense. The story flows wonderfully with secrets and revelations along the way. Plenty of action and romance to keep you entertained 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️
At times I was laughing, or in heart-pumping suspense, and often feeling all the feels right with the characters. 😉 I truly did not want to put this beautiful story down.
Gabrys writes with such beautiful imagery and metaphor. It's a delight to read her words. The refreshingly healthy yet sexy relationship was one I've yearned to read and Gabrys nails it.
Similar vibes: The Blue Lagoon, Lost, Pirates of the Caribbean: (4) on Stranger Tides, and Frozen 2
Tara has written a story that hooked me from the first chapter. Isla, the last of the sirens, is caught between devastating choices and forced onto a dangerous mission that could either end everything or begin something new. Opposite her stands Bastian, a loyal guardian with duty carved into every part of him, yet quietly at war with his own convictions. Isla’s longing and Bastian’s restraint create a slow-burning tension that pulses through every scene.
What gripped me most was how real they felt. Isla’s voice..beautiful, dangerous, vulnerable that makes you hold your breath, and Bastian’s quiet, steady strength makes you ache for him. Their connection unfolds with caution and weight, like electricity under a fragile surface.
The world itself feels alive. The ocean is as dangerous as it is beautiful. There’s danger and magic woven into every page, but it never overwhelms the characters..it just amplifies their choices and the cost of every step forward.
This isn’t a light fantasy romance…it’s about power, sacrifice, and the magnetic pull between two people who shouldn’t belong together yet can’t stay apart. The writing is besutiful, the stakes are high, and the emotions will stay with you long after the last page. I wish I could bottle this story, step through its pages, and stay on that island with Isla and Bastian just a little longer🥺🫣listening to the waves, feeling the tension in the air, and never letting it end🥰♥️
If you love dark fantasy romance, slow-burn tension, and morally complex characters, The Siren and the Guardian is a beautifully dangerous escape you don’t want to miss.
I devoured this book in one sitting, which I don’t do very often! This book had me girly giggling and kicking my feet all the way through! The book follows Isla Rivers, the last known descendant of the sirens and our MMC Sebastian (Bash), Head of the Guardians.
They have to embark on a mysterious and potentially perilous journey whilst dealing with their past hardships along the way. This book has me hooked from the very beginning with Bash being such a shameless flirt and Isla being so strong and caring.
I voluntarily read an ARC copy and am providing my honest review. The story was paced perfectly and I found the lore really interesting! The world building is easy to follow and the story was a great blend of yearning, secrets, mystery and romance. 🤍🍑
There was definitely spice in this book but not too heavy, which I thought fitted the story perfectly. There are some trigger warnings as it mentions suicide and murder so just be aware of that before reading. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and would definitely recommend!! Such a great book👏👏
Tropes Protective guard romance He falls first Touch her and die Slow burn Instant attraction
Favourite Quote “Let’s not pretend you are anything but extraordinary. You are a siren descendant. You are powerful and you are rare.”
The Siren & The Guardian comes out on the 26th August 2025, be sure to pick up your copy!!🧜🏻♀️✨
~~~ „It’s just that I wasn’t expecting—”“For me to be so handsome?” He flashes a smile“
„Let’s not pretend you are anything but extraordinary. You are a siren descendant. You are powerful and you are rare.” His stare makes my stomach flip“
„But the sweet look on her face exudes such purity that my heart swells as I admire her sun-kissed freckled cheeks. How can something this lovely exist in a world of such hate?“ ~~~
Such a refreshing read. The characters, the world, the magic. It all pulls you in from the very first page. You can immediately feel that little spark of tension between our MCs. The slow burn is slow at the beginnibut that doesn’t stop our MMC from flirting shamelessly and yes I was blushing right along with her. The way he calls her LITTLE PEACH?????
The second they go on the mission I was hooked. Every scene where it was just the two of them had me grinning, kicking my feet, screaming into a pillow. Absolutely biting my nail. And the island? So gorgeous written. The world feels alive with so many fascinating creatures. And the scene in the pond?? HELLOOO??? I already have theories about the whole “I am drawn to him” part and especially his tattoo. But the way Bash makes her feel really special (which she IS!) and not like a animal in a cage. She beats ass at healing.
The action is incredible. Intense, fast, heart racing. And so interesting written. And Bash🤭 he is completely gone for her and you can see it in every choice he makes. The way he wants to keep her safe with everything he has is just perfection. Even though he says that‘s just the kings orders. Yes riiiight.
!!!Trigger warning Suicide!!! It is heavy but thank you author for really addressing it. It wasn’t just thrown in for shock value. The characters don’t brush past it or ignore it. They are fully talked about (thought about) and explored.
5⭐️ read 📍forced proximity 🏝️mysterious island ✖️prisoner x guardian 🧜🏻♀️ Siren 🪄 water magic 🔥slow burn 🌶️ spice 🦄 mythical creatures 📺Lost inspired 💧Blue Lagoon vibes 🧠 mental health representation ☠️ touch her and 😵 ♥️ romantic fantasy 🆔 hidden identity 👶 bastard son 💘he falls first
I will say The Siren And The Guardian had me hooked from the first few pages. The love and concern Isla has for her brother Wil is very strong. She will do anything to help him and make sure that he is safe. When the Guardians show up and take her from her home and to the king’s castle, she wants nothing but to get back to her brother. Isla has an adorable fan in the youngest daughter Callie. Callie becomes a sweet and precious little friend. When she realizes she can’t get away easily and that this one particular Guardian named Bastian becomes more than a guardian. She and Bash have a banter that is adorable and hot. The slow burn tension between the two is something that will make you keep going back. The King is not a good person. When you see through him and then realize what he is hiding and trying to do to his bastard son Bastian, it will make you hate him even more. The reason the King wants Isla and the mission she is to do is nothing short of dangerous.
I can’t wait for you to get this book in your hands! Definitely a 5⭐️ read!
this was just an absolute whirlwind of a story where romance and adventure are packed into one novel and tied neatly with a bow.
i cannot count how many times i screamed and cried over many moments between Isla and Bastian.
there were so many scenes and moments that i resonated with, some hitting close to home and just put into words what i feel despite it happening in a fictional world.
it is a fast-paced story that is just fitting and did not feel rushed at all. i absolutely loved how the pacing kept me on my toes, eager to read what would happen next.
and the nuances! i really enjoyed the nuances between the timelines, the subtle shifts to the past and some symbolism as foreshadowing. it is just so seamlessly written that just made the whole story dynamic and cohesive.
now to Isla and Bastian. MY GOD! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEIR CHEMISTRY 😭 i just adore how Bastian falls for her and is just so dedicated and protective of her. and Isla! gosh, she is just so brave, fierce and headstrong, a perfect match to Bastian's focused and stubborn drive that just leads to enjoyable arguments.
i am just in love with how Bastian would do everything and anything to keep Isla safe, while Isla does the same despite Bastian saying otherwise.
this was just an absolute gem of a read and I just love seeing the growth of the characters after everything they have been through.
so go ahead and read the amazing adventure with the Siren and the Guardian and watch as they fall in love while fighting against all odds.
This was such a fun and refreshing read. I loved the water magic element in the story and the fact that the FMC was a siren, but not the typical siren you picture. There were siren elements to her appearance but she was no little mermaid. I really enjoyed the deeper topic of mental health that was woven into the plot. I enjoyed that it showed how a family member of someone dealing with mental health is affected and how they also struggle to help their loved one. I enjoyed the MC and his playfulness with Isla (fmc). The connection the two shared was cute. I feel like this story could have easily been expanded to be a duology with parts of the plot being expanded upon, but really enjoyed how nice and tidy the story ended. I am sad it over but also, it was such a nice change of pace for me. I was lucky enough to receive this as an ARC and though these are my feelings on the book i highly recommend adding it to your tbr if you want something fun, fast and refreshing.
A lush, addictive fantasy with the perfect blend of danger, slow-burn romance, and ancient magic.
The Siren and The Guardian completely swept me away. From the first chapter, I was hooked by Isla’s strength and the high-stakes premise. Mysterious missions, royal politics, and a deadly legacy tied to siren blood? Yes, please.
The dynamic between Isla and Bastian is the kind of tension-filled slow burn I live for. He's brooding and bound by duty; she’s fierce, defiant, and full of secrets. Their journey to the mythical island is packed with tension, both romantic and otherwise, and the worldbuilding had just the right touch of magic and mystery to keep me flipping pages late into the night.
Without giving anything away, I’ll just say this: the twists are clever, the pacing is solid, and the emotional payoff? So satisfying. If you like morally complex characters, enemies-to-lovers energy, and a setting that feels alive with legend, this one deserves a spot on your TBR.
The Siren and the Guardian is a story steeped in heartbreak, family devotion, grief, guilt, love, and adventure. Tara N. Gabry brings this beautiful world to life with writing that is both powerful and deeply emotional. She masterfully portrays the weight of misplaced guilt and the unbreakable bond between a brother and sister—even as they navigate betrayal and struggles with mental health.
And then there’s the romance: a breathtaking slow burn between the two main characters that will have you hooked from the very first spark.
This book is an absolute must-read for fans of fantasy and adventure who crave both emotional depth and epic storytelling.
This beautiful story had me wanting more. I went through every emotion. The adventure, the love, loss. Not knowing where you will go next!!! Omg definitely a book to have on your shelf. I will read it again and annotate my book because it’s the type of story you never want to forget.
Today I thought it would be my last but I became the kings guest. Or prisoner?
I’m so confused. Should I trust or be cautious? What does he want from me?
lol go get your copy!!!! August 26!!!!
So worth it!!!! 🍑
This amazing author has become one of my favorite. Her stories are like no other and she is a beautiful human as well. 🌹
The magic of the ocean and fated love is a match well-made. Isla and Bash are equally beautiful and loyal to a fault. This is an easy, enjoyable story that takes the reader on an exciting, and sometimes scary, journey. There’s love, grief, betrayal, and hope. I went through an array of emotions and enjoyed the nod to mental health. It is a slow burn and there is definitely some spice. Overall, I enjoyed this read.
Isla is the last siren to have been born in generations. Because of this she has been hiding her identity since she first started showing signs she was different. But all the hiding was for nothing when the Prince and Captain of the Guard came to bring her back to the castle. She was to use her siren ability to help the King on a special task, although she was kept in the dark about everything. But one thing she knew for certain, she felt an intense pull towards Bastian her guard. But could he really have feelings for her or was it just lust.
Bastian is captain of the King's guard and also the b*stard child of the King. After finding and bringing Isla back to the castle he had been tasked to guard her and accompany her on the King's quest of the Siren Island. But as his time spent with Isla went on, his feeling and the pull towards her grew stronger. And he knew he would do anything for her. Even if it meant dying for her.
I thought the romance between them was perfect, and just enough slow burn. I loved how easily she fit with the King's family also, especially since the relationship with her family was so strained.
Thank you Tara Gabrys for gifting me an advanced reading copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I love it so much ! Her almost dying multiple times , him being her protector, them falling in love💕. I loved it so much I don’t even have words lol 💕💕 “ well shit, I hate to scrabble about positions, little peach, but I believe you are the one on top”
I really liked this story! In the beginning I felt that it had the potential to be a 6 ⭐️ read but it just didn’t quite meet that for me, personally! I remember at one point thinking ‘this authors imagination is amazing’ because honestly the story and the plot twist were twisting. So many great things that made this book so good but I did find myself skimming towards the end. Minus that, a great story and I do recommend!
firstly I want to thank you for the ARC read at the start I liked how she showed us what a powerful person in charge can do. the king didn't trap her, torture her or keep her in a dark ugly place. it waited her with open arms giving her a beautiful speech and a beautiful room. a beautiful cage but a cage nonetheless. it made her understand though words that she has no choice but complain to his mission. then it came the romantic relationship. they did try to save each other but not by dismissing the others powers. they were completely aware of how powerful the other is and just accepted and encouraged it. they understood each other even without words. and the support they showed was amazing. they truly had a deep connection. also I loved how just at the end, when she actually was free, did her mind realize how she manipulated herself. she downsized her worth and didn't care for her losing herself in the care of her family. but love sometimes is not strong enough to save someone and she blamed herself for something she could've not prevent. it just took her being away from the situation to be able to see it truly. A beautiful and nice read. I really recommend giving it a try
