Obsessed Billionaires, Cherished Brides #4

Reckless Billionaire’s Ruthless Claim

Rate this book
He thought she was hopelessly in love with him—turns out, she was in love with his bank account.

“Why are you here again? Didn’t I tell you to stop following me?” Sawyer Stark is convinced Ellie Madden is hopelessly in love with him.

For three years, she’s been his girlfriend, bound by a convenient deal to maintain appearances until his childhood love, Olivia, returns. But Ellie didn’t get the memo. Every time he turns around, there she is, looking at him like he’s her world.

“Here’s ten thousand dollars. Is that enough to make you disappear?” he scoffs, offering cash as if it’s a solution. What he doesn’t realize is that Ellie isn’t there for love—she’s there for his wallet.

A fire stole her identity and left her drowning in debt, and Sawyer’s money is her lifeline. When Olivia finally returns, Ellie doesn’t wait to be thrown out—she vanishes on her own, leaving Sawyer stunned.

Suddenly, it’s not Olivia he wants—it’s the ‘gold digger’ who’s caught another man’s attention. Seeing Ellie with someone else ignites something Sawyer never expected.

Now he’s not just jealous; he’s furious.

For the first time, he’s not sure what hurts more—losing Ellie or realizing she might not have cared about him at all.

If you like your characters crazy this one is for you.

All the characters are crazy. On a scale of 1 - 10 Ellie is about a 7, Sawyer is about and 8 and Olivia is a 12.

It was a lottle hard to get a good impression on Ellie since in the beginning she seems every bit the gold digger but I like how her intentions are slowly revealed and you realize that she is just trying to play the game with the hand she was given.

Sawyer's crazy is infuriating in the beginning. The hot and cold behavior is annoying and the theme is just overdone. I do like that he doesn't jump to take Olivia back as soon as she comes back to him. That he does question her and her motivation.

Olivia is very much the soap opera villian. It did make for a pretty good read though I do wish there was a better resolution with her.

I will say this... the hospital scenes were a bit much. If she barely escaped death she isn't going to be able to get banged like a bunny on ecstacy and hospital beds suck too much to have any real fun on.

The storyline is engaging and the writing is getting better with each book so I'm off for book 5.

KU*

I really wanted to like this book since the synopsis intrigued me, but I don’t feel like the book I read was the same in execution.

For one thing, there’s way more going in this book then just a love triangle and a little gold digging action; to be honest I was so confused about the whole dynamic most of the time. It was like everyone but Sawyer knew that Ellie was a gold digger even his mother, but it also seemed that his mother knew Ellie’s secret, that even Ellie didn’t know.

Anyway, the point is the book starts with Ellie and Sawyer already 2.5 years into this arranged and contracted relationship when Olivia, his true love, comes back. Now the deal was once Olivia returns it bye-bye Ellie, but suddenly Sawyer doesn’t want Ellie gone and can’t even seem to stand Olivia, but he still calls her his own one true love. This is basically the entire book, Ellie trying to get away and Sawyer saying she means nothing, but gets jealous when she tries to move on and proceeds to keep her close.

Now the extra plot is that Olivia is a psycho and tries to kill Ellie multiple times so she can have Sawyer to herself; Olivia and Ellie have a past that Ellie doesn’t remember due to a burn accident that she and Olivia suspiciously share. It took forever for Sawyer to believe in Ellie, but in the end he came through, however, they did act like children and that last scene, Ellie acted like a child in my opinion just torturing Sawyer for fun after all that happened.

So much happening in so little time, but we do get to see the characters from the previous books as they are family/friends of Sawyer and Ellie.

Spoiler:

It turns out Olivia had been attacked by her friend Kelly who jealous of her life so she burned Olivia and thought she killed and Kelly assumed Olivia’s life. However, Olivia didn’t die she was saved but my man named Tony and because of memory loss became Ellie.

So Ellie is the real Olivia (Sawyer’s true love) and psycho Olivia was Kelly.

When all is revealed, Kelly tries to kill Ellie again along with her parents, but she saves by Sawyer, but Ellie decides to pretend she remembers everything but Sawyer which tortures him for her fun. He finds out eventually.

So... The only think that I believe could be better is the FMC being portrayed as a gold digger even in the epilogue. The FMC is the CEO of one of the most influential companies and yet the MMC has to gift her jewellery to get to kiss her. Sure, it could be percieved as their form of love but still, it was unfair. and then portraying that the kid did not call him daddy and then finally called him daddy only when the MMC offered him a wad of cash. Not up my forte. oherwise the book was good. It was a good read. It was just the epilogue that left a bitter taste in my mouth in the end.

I thought my first Ava Selwyn read - "Obsessing over his Favorite" -was pretty decent fun for what it is (junk food/KU) so I decided to try some of her other stuff. This one isn't nearly as good.

Ava Selwyn generates very cartoonish over the top soap opera stories - do not expect any depth here, but maybe enjoy the ride if you can? Empty calories can have a place in your Kindle Unlimited adventures, right?

This one got fewer stars than "Obsessing over his favorite" because the FMC here was sort of a jerk. She is referred to as mischievous and teasing, but what I saw was often her being petulant and mean to others, silly when she needed to be a bit more vengeful. Mind you a lot of the others are worse than her, so I guess it's supposed to even out? The MMC is oblivious to everything. "Obsessing over his favorite" had a nice heroine with moxie&amnesia, which earned that one more stars.
Anyway - this time the soap-opera element is....drumroll...*plastic surgery* on burn victims. More than one character has had plastic surgery on more than 80% of their body due to injuries and apparently no one can really tell who has and hasn't because it's all healed up that well in just a year or two. It's ridiculous - and yet I was willing to go along with that until the FMC (who had some surgery) mocked someone else for their appearance based on being a burn victim. Oh dear.
Bad writing aside, that is just wrong for a heroine to do.

Does anyone else think Ai is being used for some of these Selwyn books, or some sort of writing software? And that the "mistakes" are intentional to throw off that obvious computer generation of some of this? There's a lot of repetitive emphasis, and some adverbs that have completely incorrect context.

But back to "Obsessing over his Favorite" - I think that one is superior because 85% of the book is the heroine side-stepping/avoiding the idiot MMC because she realizes by chapter 3 that he's a total jerk. And her journey of reflection and flourishing was more interesting to read.

I love this author’s over the top story lines and characters and H's who like to yell and rant, it is exactly what I want from her books. It was fun having Ellie run rings around Sawyer even as she was handling his rough verbal and physical handling with loads of chemistry and sparks flying between the two characters. She had signed a contract with the H and H’s mother to act as his girlfriend and live in his house for 3 years after his former love (OW) had moved away. The h would receive a 2 million dollar payout at the end of that time if the terms were met as well as enjoying whatever cash and gifts Sawyer chose to share with her during that time. While they had lived together all that time the relationship doesn’t really get personal until shortly after the start of the book and a few months before the end of the three years.

There is major OW drama in the book but the H only cares about the h even though he doesn’t know it until things change in their relationship. I love how the OW utterly fails to gain his attention when she comes back into the picture and the drama she brings to the story is potentially lethal. You need to read why Ellie is so focused on getting some of Sawyer’s money, she has a good reason and needs to help someone else. Her joy over the financial transactions is not self-serving even though her love of money is part of her DNA which was fun read. There are lots of interesting s*xy scenes in the book but if they are not your main focus you can easily skip over some or all and still have a full story to enjoy.

Overall we are treated to lots of excitement, jealousy and complex lies that have to be sorted out before our H and h get their HEA.

3/5 ⭐️

Giving this a solid 3 stars — and honestly, it’s mostly because I freaking loved Ellie! The plot? Absolutely ridiculous. But also? Very, very entertaining. I found myself literally laughing out loud at some of Ellie’s antics — she was chaotic, unbothered, and just a blast to read. I also loved how much she threw Sawyer off his game. Watching Mr. Ruthless CEO spiral into frustration because of her was pure gold.

Some of their fight scenes had me grinning like an idiot — the banter was sharp, the tension was wild, and they really went at it (verbally and otherwise). And yep, the spice definitely delivered.

Is it deep? Not at all. But if you're here for fun, chaos, a hot mess of a romance with some laugh-out-loud moments and a heroine who doesn’t play by the rules — you’ll enjoy the book!

Oh, boy, talk about the epitome of star-crossed lovers. Sawyer Stark, also humorously known as Sawyer Narcissist Stark (SNS), is in love and waiting for the return from overseas of his childhood sweetheart, Olivia. Ellie Madden is a similar look-alike of Olivia and is considered a place maker pending Olivia's reappearance. Tragedy and secrets abound in this story and they will keep you hoping and guessing about what happens next. Who is Olivia? Who is Ellie? Who is the other man in Ellie's life? Why is Ellie taking money hand over fist from Sawyer? This is a fabulous love story combined with danger that you will not want to put down until the last page and then you’ll wish there was more to read of it. I am loving this author.

I really got sucked into this story from the beginning. This book is about Ellie who is dating Sawyer, a very arrogant and rich guy. Sawyer is kind of using Ellie as a replacement girlfriend until his real love, Olivia, comes back home. They have been together for almost three years and Sawyer doesn't truly value Ellie for the wonderful person that she is. He is careless with her feelings and devotion to him and doesn't deserve her love and respect. Things get really interesting when Olivia comes back after being gone for so long. And there is definitely a plot twist coming. I liked the added suspense of wondering what would happen to Ellie and Sawyer's relationship after Olivia came back. And there were definitely some great spicy scenes to enjoy! This was another great book in the Obsessed Billionaires, Cherished Brides series.

2 stars because all my predictions came true, like baam hello there, I was in your mind until I'm not, which I don't like, I want to be surprised af.

I really tried to adjust to the third-person POV, but I'm having a mental breakdown figuring out who's speaking now. But, it's just my first book with this author. I could be surprise by her other books, so I'm not closing my door on this author considering she has more than 1 book and I said to myself I'll read them, no matter what.

Sigh... Good in theory

The plot could have been a good one, and I was excited to read it. As I always get wrapped up in those book apps. This plot and book reminded me of that and I was all in to read it. Unfortunately, the FL shows herself to be just materialistic. Her good qualities are not thoroughly flushed out. Because of this, it's hard to disagree with the ML and his beliefs that she is a gold digger. I wanted to like this book, but it needs an editor and reworking.

ehh

The story blurb pulled me in but god was this all over the place.

Ellie flips between crying (can’t tell if real or fake)and then being a gold digger (maybe??)

Sawyer was so mean the whole book and then realizes later he loves Ellie.

The sex scenes were so drawn up but like not in a fun good time way just drawn out.

There was an imposter at one point and we don’t know what happens to her.

The book is just all over the place with so many random plot holes.

Honestly, it's the part where he 'thinks' "his body" is more valuable than the money, which she loves - had me wheezing. I see why she calls him Narcissistic. The man is too proud for his own good.

But jokes aside, the storyline is actually quite good. Like a cheesy C-Drama that I'll chased to the end of season cause I already know what's coming next. Yet, I want to watch him burn & grovel.

Anyway, storyline is a 4*. That's it.

I skimmed through this book bcs it was so annoying… I hated it so much. Like this book doesn’t have any logic. One day she’s badly hurt and hours later they bang like bunnies. Other day she’s got almost killed and next day she’s pretty okay and he throws her on the bed. LIKE WHERE IS THE LOGIC?! She’s suffered too much bcs of him… and he has been so mean and rude to her. Is it even romance book???

The intimate scenes are being to grate.

So these books are perfect K/C-dramas and are just fun reads. But, the intimacy is starting to make me not want to bother. It is chapters worth of “hours” of smexxy time. It is like the dude takes double-dose viagra daily and the woman must have an iron-clad nether region because that baby would be in pain. I don’t know. Maybe, I just need a palate cleanser for my palate cleanser because I do enjoy these books.

This was another great story in this amazing series by this author! Sawyer and Ellie’s story was filled with plenty of angst, and suspense, and loads of steam. The characters were frustrating at times, but I loved them, and I also loved the appearance of previous characters in the story as well. The storyline was fantastic, with some twists that were set up beautifully. Highly recommend!!

When I started this book, I hated it. I hated the characters. Ellie and Sawyer made no sense and it drove me crazy. I almost did not finish it. However, as the story went on, it really grew on me. The twists really drew me in. The spice hit so well. All of sudden, everything just clicked and made sense. I ended up loving it. I highly recommend.

Sawyer, ffs WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT 😭😭😭 this was better than the 2nd book in the series in terms of.. idk. I enjoyed it a bit more, I guess. Ellie was unhinged, that girl is so funny 😭 but also confusing at times.

It still feels like this book was written by an angsty teen.

The ending where Ellie pretended not to remember was hilarious. She’s such a crazy girl 🤣

no

Written like a K-drama. It could be good, if the guy he was abusive, she just forgives and love anyway. How she will almost died and threatened to tell the police everything but I guess didn’t. This was just not for me. Didn’t like how she fell in love with an abusive man. And how he abused her emotionally and she just took it and then still loved him.

The initial plot for this book sounds amazing and happened to come across it on tiktok but the actually book itself leaves alot to be desired. Unfortunately I was only able to make it halfway through the book before dnf. I really really wanted to love this story but the plot that was laid out just seems to unrealistic.

Ellie and Swayer

There are lots of discrepancies in this book, and many issues that don't get resolved in my view. Not very good. Slayer treated Ellie badly by there was no a grovelling. When he finally said the words "I love you," I just couldn't believe him.

Loved this book. There were a few things that were not believable in the sequencing but still enjoyed the book. There were an endless almost felt forced to wrap it up. The flow was quickened to finish.
