It's been a year since the massacre at Mulder House, and the survivors are bracing for the anniversary. They thought the nightmare was over, but as Halloween approaches, they begin to realize that the killing has only just begun. An ancient evil has awakened once more, hoping to finish what it started 400 years ago. This time when the gates of hell are opened, they'll stay that way...unless one traumatized victim can face down her own greatest fear.
From the mind of Hoffer Award Finalist Miles Watson comes the first installment in a massive horror epic that plunges a knife into the very heart of evil. A blend of slasher and supernatural, epic horror and psychological suspense, SOMETHING EVIL, VOL. I is the beginning of a journey that will take the reader through violence and its aftermath to the very heart of evil itself.
Miles Watson was born in Evanston, Illinois. The son of a prominent Chicago journalist, he took an early interest in writing and published his first short story at 17. He worked in Criminal Justice for ten years before moving to Los Angeles for a dozen more, where he worked on numerous television shows and half a dozen feature films. He is the author of four book series: CAGE LIFE, SINNER'S CROSS, THE CHRONICLES OF MAGNUS and SOMETHING EVIL as well as numerous novellas, which have won nearly 30 literary awards.
Something Evil: Volume I is an ambitious and genre blending horror entry that combines slasher intensity, supernatural mythology, and psychological aftermath into a single expansive narrative framework.
Miles Watson sets a strong foundation with the aftermath of the Mulder House massacre, immediately establishing both emotional and narrative stakes. The idea of survivors returning to confront the anniversary of trauma is a powerful structural device that reinforces tension from the outset.
As the story unfolds, it expands from grounded horror into something far more ancient and mythic. The awakening of a centuries old evil shifts the tone from localized terror into epic horror, broadening the scope while maintaining its emotional core through survivor perspective.
What stands out is the attempt to balance large scale supernatural elements with intimate psychological impact. The presence of a traumatized survivor confronting her deepest fear provides an anchor that keeps the story emotionally grounded even as the mythology expands.
A promising start to a horror epic series that will appeal to readers who enjoy slasher influenced storytelling combined with supernatural depth and serialized world building.
