On Ruling
The last thing Christian men need is another book on leadership...
...so we didn't write one. Instead, we wrote a book about how to govern all the stuff our King has given us to govern, starting with our own heart, our wife and household, our business endeavors, our spiritual responsibilities in the local church and finally, a book about how to push our weight around in the town where we live - when we show up at the city gates.
In this small book, we unpack our role as the King's man - one of His top guys - as we seek to bring more order to chaos, more fruiting to our wife-vine, and more development of our prematurely mature children. Too many people depend upon us for their safety, development, instruction, and flourishing - so we better learn as much as we can about governing well. The Scriptures indicate that we will eventually judge angels and preside over cities; so, if we can't run a 3 bedroom household, we better learn. This book is about all that.
On Ruling invites men (you, sir) to become more formidable and impactful

Old Grog does most of the talking for theViceroyProject - but the book is a collaborative effort told from the perspective of the men who train together in Texas. We only know this stuff works in Texas [between the Red River and Rio Bravo, from El Paso to Daingerfield] we don't know about New Hampshire or Guam or Brooklyn. Results may vary. Fair warning...I'm not the best at reviewing books.
Books like this make me nervous. There is always chaff when winnowing grain. Some books about being a man seem to be long opinion pieces. This one, however, is more down to earth. I think the author(s) intent is to pass on some actual wisdom and practical advice, and to do that from a Christian and Biblical perspective that he believes to be a true and right starting point for people. I appreciate that, at least at one point, the author admits to painting with a broad brush and that everyone needs to make up their own mind about some of the points in the book. The author also offers some correction and clarity on some of the concepts discussed.

Highly recommend. Tons of Psalms references that were very helpful in the modern context of our present day. In total this book is chocked full of applications for husbands and fathers to rule and govern well as Viceroys - in place of King Jesus to bring flourishing care and stewardship to our wives, children, businesses, neighborhoods, and churches. Time well spent. You are the Fight!

I learned a lot from this book, but, more than that, this book inspired me to keep walking faithfully as a man, husband, father, pastor, and community member. I have read dozens of books on the topic of family and fatherhood in the last few years and this is top 5.
