Thirty years ago, the town of Briarwood was left shattered by the gruesome murders committed by Jones Jepsen. His brutal reign of terror claimed the lives of many of the town's residents, earning him a seat in the electric chair.
But on a dark and stormy night in 1993, a malevolent force brings Jones back from the depths of hell, his hunger for blood and revenge more ravenous than ever. Jones is back, and this time, no one is safe. The same twisted mind that brought Briarwood to its knees decades ago is now driven by a burning desire for retribution against those who wronged him. Can the town of Briarwood survive the return of its most feared son, or will Jones Jepsen’s thirst for blood forever haunt its streets?
Officially finished my ARC of Jones 1993 and Devin Cabrera did not disappoint!
After a group of teens resurrect an infamous serial unaliver, Jones Jepson makes his return to Briarwood with a bang to get revenge on all those who wronged him 30 years before.
This book was so deliciously brutal and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I just kept wondering what craziness the next page had in store for me!
This is my final review of my ARC of Jones 1993. This horror story flowed smoothly like blood flowing from the jugular! Jones Jepsen I want to be your Harley Quinn! My favorite serial killer. He manages to keep his Top Hat on through his massive killing spree. Very impressive! This book made my blood curdle but also made me laugh and cry. Devin Cabrera is a Horror Master and I feel privileged to be along for this scary journey of reading his books. The attention to detail he has is amazing! There is nothing like a good scare! I highly recommend this book to all you blood thirsty Horror seekers!
Super stoked I was able to get an ARC copy of this. Ever since Welcome to Nightmare Island, I was captivated by Jones Jepsen. Then Jones 1963 gave his backstory and made you actually feel empathy for this monster. Life wasn’t fair to him but at the same time it seems he may have gotten a little carried away! Jones 1993 brings our beloved monster back to weave more nightmares as he seeks more revenge. He is brutal and heartless, which is what we all expect. However, there are some other traits you see that pop up here and there unexpectedly, especially at the ending. This character’s story is absolutely fascinating and will keep you captivated page by page. Go ahead and assume you will need the whole day to read straight through this. There is no way you are putting this down!
Thank you Devin Cabrera for my ARC! . Jones is back and about as vengeful as he was 30 years ago. (If you haven’t read Jones 1963, get on it! Also, check out Welcome to Nightmare Island.) . This book had me on the edge of my seat! Ol’ Jonesy is out for revenge (again) on the people of Briarwood who made his life a living hell 30 years ago! Devin’s creative story telling is fast paced, with the right amount of gruesome, sprinkled with a touch of dark humor. This book was great and I love a good 90s backdrop. I can’t wait for more from Devin!
He told you he’d be back. And boy is he an unwanted guest. Jones 1993 continues the story Jones Jepsen. A man with a tortured soul who lived a traumatic life, both at home and away, before his death in 1963. In 1993, the 30th anniversary of the tragedies in what once was the peaceful town of Briarwood, a group of teens decide to conjure the ghost of Jones and naively release unholy chaos and devastation on Briarwood once again. I was given the opportunity to read this eARC and it had me hooked from page one. This one jumps right into the action and has you anxious to see what the next chapter has coming. I loved all the great 90’s references. The way that Jones carry’s out his business is also not your typical ghost story tropes either which is refreshing. If you liked Jones 1963 this one will be one of your favorites as well. It very neatly ties up the story of Jones Jepsen. 100% recommend.
I had the absolute pleasure of being one of the ARC readers for the sequel to the Jones story.
If you enjoyed 1963, you'll certainly enjoy 1993! If you haven't read Jones 1963, then what are you waiting for?!
Cabrera takes our original killer and brings him back to us by way of the supernatural! If you thought a living breathing Jones had been terrifying, then paranormal Jepsen will send chills up your spine!
I was given the opportunity to read the ARC of this book. I have not read the first two books that have Jones Jensen in them, but boy do I plan to! I really enjoyed the plot of this story. It sucks you in and you don’t want to stop. It is a little darker than I am used to, but I really didn’t want to stop. I will be reading Jones 1963 and Welcome to Nightmare Island next. If you like fast-paced horror, give this book a try!!
If Jones 1963 gave you any sort of empathy for Jones Jepson, Jones 1993 will sure make you feel apathetic! Briarwood is under threat again and no one is safe! This was a great fast paced read which did not let up on the action. Would definitely recommend 🎩🎩🎩🎩
“Hey, do you want to hear a joke? A priest performed an exorcism on my house, but I couldn’t pay him, so my house got repossessed.” Even thought this book was filled with horrific visions of death; Jones was able to find a moment to tell a joke. That is why Jones seems more like a messed up version of an anti-hero. The author was able to show Jones had moments of care for those that wronged Jones. Killing all the people he had in his previous life was not necessary but once he got started with killing, he could not stop. Of course some bullied, outcast teens would find a way to bring back the worst serial killer in their memory. Teens act first, then think later, as the reader discovers when the teens decided to use the Bring the Dead Back to Life book. Their only thought was to get revenge on their bullies not caring what havoc Jones could cause in their small town. I have a feeling we have not seen the last of Jones.
Devin Cabrera does it again by breathing fresh life into our favorite ghost from Welcome to Nightmare Island! Jones 1993 takes place 30 years after Jones Jepsen terriorized the small town of Briarwood and Jones is angrier then ever and determined to tie up all those loose ends.
Devin's writing is fast paced, gruesome, and absolutely unforgiving. No characters are safe and heads will roll. Cabrera has an incredible ability to write novels in a way that plays out like a movie in your mind by touching briefly on character's inner thoughts and feelings so perfectly throughout that I felt like I was walking alongside them in the scene. I finished this book in a day, it moves extremely quickly and doesn't involve a whole bunch of unnecessary fluff, Jones 1993 is straight to the good stuff.
If you're thinking of picking up a copy of this book (which you should because it's amazing) then PLEASE read Jones 1963 first!
So whatsup Devin? This can't be the last we see of Jones Jepsen!
This was such a delightful romp with a completely insane villain.
In "Welcome to Nightmare Island", we first meet Jones Jepsen, who's an insane ghost. In "Jones 1963", we meet Jones as a teenager and learn what makes him snap and go on a murder spree. For this book, it starts with 3 teenagers who are bullied. They decide to resurrect Jones so that way he'll go and handle their bullies. At this point, I was either expecting that the kids later regret resurrecting Jones and try to stop him, or where Jones listens to them for a bit but then slowly gets out of control (and the kids try to stop him). I was pleasantly surprised that the book went with neither of those options and everything just got out of hand fairly immediately (this happens in the first 10% of the book, so not a spoiler).
Jones comes back and is off the wall insane. There isn't the same character development that we got in "1963" and I'm fine with that. Sometimes you just want to read a book (or watch a movie) where it's a crazy character who's crazy and that's it. This book won't win any awards for its depth of characters and plot, but it's a very entertaining read.
Jones decides to take revenge on everyone who watched him get executed in 1963. There isn't a ton of plot besides that, which is perfectly fine for this book. I appreciate that it's only 182 pages - if this was a 400 page book, I would have other thoughts. But as a long novella/short book, it's a great length for what it is. The book was also funnier than I was expecting. You could tell that the author had fun writing Jones and this book.
My big complaint is that the author has a writing habit where everything is like something else. Instead of "he ran away", it would be "he ran away like the hounds of hell were chasing him". It got old quickly. Also, there were a lot of 1990s references. It felt like they were just there to tug the nostalgia strings without really serving a purpose.
Thank you to the author for this advance review copy.
Have you read Jones 1963? If you have, you know who Jones Jepsen is. If you haven't, then take a second and read it first.
When the clock struck 3 Jones was gone. His last words.. "I'll be back" and so true to his word, it's been 30 years, and he is back.
The streets of Briarwood are no longer safe. The dark prince of Briarwood has returned.
The plan was simple, bring Jepson back to life. Cassandra, Colin, and Hayden all have their own reasons to bring Jones back. But the revenge they were seeking might not be what Jones has in mind.
Chief Frank DeSalvo, the man who captured Jones in 1963, is stunned at the new murders in town. There is no way it could be Jones he watched him be executed. Or is he really back?
I devoured this thrilling and suspenseful read in one setting. Jones is one of my favorite characters in Welcome to Nightmare Island. And the way Devin tells his story his heartbreaking and terrifying. This sequel to Jones 1963 was much more brutal and terrifying.
30 years on from the events of Jones 1963 he is back, and he has a new score to settle.
Jones 1993 doesn’t hold back for a single minute: dropping you straight in to the action, it is a no-holds barred rollercoaster of a book. Love him or hate him, Jones Jepsen has been an incredible character in every book, and you are gripped waiting to see what he will do next. He’s a lot more complicated than it might first look, and Devin has given him so much personality that you can really see him come to life.
Devin’s writing style is such a smooth and easy read, and the pacing is so intense that you will fly through this book quicker than a smack of Jones’ mallet.
If you haven’t read Nightmare Island and Jones 1963 I would definitely recommend checking those out first to properly get all of the references and nuance here, but as long as you have read Jones 1963 you will get along just fine.
If you’re interested in this book and haven’t read the prequel, stop whatever you’re doing and start that now. You’ll have enough to get you going in this book, but will miss out on the masterpiece of a story that leads to the return of the infamous Jones Jepson!
“I’ll be back” - and that he was. Absolutely stellar and fantastic continuation of the story of Jones. It read like a true story of vengeance and retribution, though it wasn’t of someone gaining revenge on a loved one, but rather one of a murderous villain continuing his rageful onslaught of innocent victims.
I’m so honored to have been part of ARC process for this book, and have gained a massive amount of respect for Devin, the author. Though it was a quick read, I was sucked into both this and the prequel story, “Jones 1963”, in a way I haven’t in a long time. It was hard to put down either book as I read them late into the evenings and nights.
Overall, the storylines in this book and the prequel were masterfully written, leaving you satisfied (although queasy) at the violently descriptive murders and letting you into the mind of a troubled young man who was pushed beyond the brink of what anyone could handle. I strongly recommend these two books and cannot wait to get my hands on the rest of Devin’s works.
“Jones Jepsen had returned from the dead, and he was on a vengeful warpath, leaving a trail of bodies in his wake.”
Jones Jepsen is my serial killer husband and he’s back baby!!!! I have been waiting for this for so long it seems like! Absolutely loved all the nostalgia from the 90s that’s in this story!
The way this psychotic man steals your heart and makes you feel for him is adorably insane! Jones is funny, cocky, brutal, a complete psycho and I love him 😂 I knew in Jones 63 that he was my favorite serial killer but after reading this one, ain’t no way anyone will take his place! Hopefully we will see Jones again! 🖤
Devin Cabrera has done it again. Jepsen Jones is back and he’s pissed.
30 years after the events of 1963, Jones is brought back from hell and his goal is to exact revenge on those that watched him die.
As Cabrera does, he weaves a deliciously dark tale here filled with not only horror and just the right amount of gore, but he also manages to sprinkle in a bit of dark humor that just works.
The storytelling in everything I’ve read by this author is so well written and flows nicely making it an enjoyable read, and this book is no exception.
I eagerly look forward to more from him.

Jones Jepsen is the deranged, mallet-yielding ghost first appearing in the author's "Welcome to Nightmare Island," and his origin story (the ghost's, not the author's - I think LOL) started in "Jones 1963" and continues in "Jones 1993" - the book under review. Similar to the first part, the atmosphere felt to me a bit YA, darkly comedic, with some incongruities present (e.g., Jones who's been missing since 1963 and brought back from the dead in 1993 seems to know Harley Quinn, a character created in 1992). But the book is action-heavy, fast-paced, an easy read with a very relatable cast; the sole difference from "Jones 1963" being that Jones has now given in to the most sinister parts of his mentally disturbed personality and can neither be reasoned with nor shown any compassion: he's a monster, utterly non-relatable, period. Cabrera pits him against the town's Chief of Police (whom I found a very interesting character), so the book feels sometimes like those serial killer/crime spree/cat and mouse thrillers of the 1990s, with a supernatural twist from the very beginning. I could easily visualize everything, and I wouldn't be surprised if Jones' story hit the big screen at some point!
Super excited to have received an ARC copy of Jones 1993! I really enjoyed Jones 1963 and couldn’t wait to see what 93 had in store for Jones Jepsen!
(Make sure you read Jones 1963 before starting this one so you can fully grasp the story! Welcome to Nightmare Island also ties in if you want more after 93!)
Jones Jepsen was brutally bullied and abused and looked down upon by everyone in his town Briarwood. He took matters into his own hands when he sought revenge. They thought they were safe once he was caught and sentenced to death, but boy, were they wrong..
Thirty years later, some teens who relate to Jones and his struggles decide that trying to bring him back to life would be a good idea. And yet again, they were wrong.
One of the biggest mistakes that Briarwood made was underestimating Jones Jepsen. While he was alive and while he was dead. He said he’d be back and he meant it.
His need for revenge fuels some of the most creative kills, covered in blood and gore and sometimes dust, that “coats it like bread crumbs on a chicken cutlet.”
This book keeps you wondering if the town created the monster that is Jones Jepsen or if he had it in him all along.
This is such a sequel, and that is meant as a compliment.
I started out finding Welcome to Nightmare Island, and I LOVE 13 Ghosts, so it was perfection.
Then Devin does Jones 1963, little backstory of one of the ghosts we met, and I will give it to him, he had me feeling sorry for Jones, which, after reading Nightmare Island, I'm shocked he could do.
The man is AWFUL.
Seriously some scenes I still remember so vividly.
Then I see the ARC call for Jones 1993 and I RAN to snag a spot.
I love this, we get some more of very fucked up Jones chaos, which I am going to be honest is a brand that is so beyond vile, this is one of those fuckers, that normally when im like yeah I would have a chance against a killer, in this case, I'm probably going to be dead in a Alexus VS Jones stand off, if he got me cornered lol
He's smart, but I think I might be a little smarter, maybe.
Hearing "I'll be back" from Jones, did something to me, and I got absolute chills. You never really know, is the villain just boastful, or will they keep their promise..
In this case, here we are in 1993 and looks like he was not bluffing. Maybe it wasn't something he planned, but that's the scary part of Jones, he knows the true darkness inside of humans, and knows someone will want to harness his powers again, like humans always seem to want to do .
I made myself read this one slow, because otherwise I'd have wiped it out in one sitting, it got its claws in, and I had to see, is this finally going to be the end of Jones, or will we see him again in another 30 years??
Dumb kids, doing dumb kid activity, messing with conjuring, and honestly that's the part I can relate to with Jones, here I am getting woken up by the Micky Mouse Haunted Club, and I am TIRED. Every time he's out and about, he's just full on murdering, like what a physical activity..
So yeah I get it Jones, I do .
But this was amazing, and I need more, whether its more Jones or some of the other ghosts, this is one of my favorite authors i found last year, and I love his short and full length works, Flock of Crows, was so good.
Anyways give this a read when it releases, it was excellent.
jones 1993 is very fast paced, gory, and a cool ghost story. it’s a revenge arc which was fun, but a few things stopped me from really loving it.
there were no real •ghost rules•, ghost limitations/skills just seemed to show up whenever it was convenient. some of the kills didn’t make much sense, but i tried to just enjoy the ~~ creative license. the dialogue between characters was a bit unrealistic, too.
however! things i did like! the ending ♡ it was sweet and sad. the head in the glovebox did make me laugh too. it was gory but not uncomfortably gory, or maybe i’m just keen on that kind of gore. it’s a quick little read, although it did take me a few weeks to get to it due to work/life responsibilities
Jones 1993 is a strong follow-up to Jones 1963, delivering another gripping revenge story. Having read the first book, I found the twists and turns in this one made perfect sense, building on the events that came before.
One aspect I found disappointing was how quickly certain characters were eliminated. Their backstories hinted at personal revenge arcs that I would have loved to see play out. However, this isn’t a hero’s journey—Jones is certainly no hero! Still, since the author took the time to develop those characters, it felt like a missed opportunity to use them more.
That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the book and hope to see Jones return in another installment.
Couldn't have imagined a better continuation of Jones's reign of terror. When three friends decide to bring Briarwood notorious serial killer back to life, it is obvious their attempt is the perfect recipe for disaster. Nothing can stay in Jones's path and his immense hunger for revenge. He leaves behind him the same trail of bodies, organs and body parts that we got used to in the beginning of his story. A tremendous story, where you won't be able to not feel at least a bit sorry for the villain.
Since reading Devin's first book Welcome to Nightmare Island, I've read the second installment of this story Jones 1963 and was blown away again with Jones 1993. Loving a bad guy is definitely not hard to do while reading these books. Even with the disturbing murders! Who wouldn't want to come back from the dead and wreak havoc on those who wronged you. Jones got his ultimate revenge! The ending was emotionally moving in a way I didn't think possible after reading something so graphic. Can't wait to read the next installment, as Devin is such a great author!
Sweet baby Jesus!!!! I couldn’t put this book down, was read in less than 4 hours. DEVIN the way you write just sucks the reader right in. Jones is the type of character you were told growing up to hate because, who loves a serial killer, this girl right here does, especially Jones. That ending was the absolute best. I loved the fact that you tied the past in with the future and how Jones’ doesn’t follow the “rules” of the supernatural. Once again you have blown my mind.
What a read! Jones 1993! It’s giving “no harm ever came from reading a book”. Be nice to people or you might end up face to face with the end of a bloody mallet. It’s poetic justice mixed with carnage. I highly enjoyed this sequel by Devin Cabrera! This comes out February 7th and y’all are in for a smashing treat!
This is the sequel to Jones 1963 who is a character from Welcome to Nightmare Island. I think it’s best to read both before diving into this little gem. This 100% pulls you in and keeps you there chapter after chapter, leaving you wondering what could possibly happen next! It did a bang up job of continuing Jones Jepsen’s story and the ending…hmmm. Is it? I sure hope not!
Just finished Jones 1993. He just released it so it isn't on most of my apps yet. But it deserves all the attention. Basically part two of Jones' origin story. We get to see more layers to our newly unalived ghostie. More revenge flows abd no one is safe. Beautiful cover. I am not sure who I want to read about next. I am thinking the wailing woman would be a good one. 🤞
Devin masterfully writes a continued tale of revenge. Serial Killer Jones Jepsen returns to take you on his path of vengeance that is gruesome and downright captivating. This is a fast-paced, edge of your seat, read in one sitting kind of book!
