Two souls, one journey, and a spark they never saw coming.
Alexandra Two years after my divorce, life has settled into a predictable rhythm—running the pub, cooking for one, and dodging my brother Peter’s constant attempts to fix my social life. When he drags me along on a village ramble, I’m only going to keep the peace. Then Hunter shows up. He’s Peter’s best mate, the charming hotel owner who always seems to have a smile and a clever remark ready. He claims he’s just scoping out the walk for his guests, but somehow, he keeps ending up right by my side, making me laugh and, annoyingly, reminding me what it feels like to have fun. I’ve been waiting for life to surprise me—maybe I’ve been waiting in the wrong place.
Hunter Owning a small, exclusive hotel comes with its challenges—like knowing how to sell guests on the local attractions. So, when I hear about a village walking group, I decide to give it a shot. For “research,” of course. My best mate Peter agrees to tag along, but he brings his sister Alexandra, and suddenly, I’m in over my head. Alex isn’t just Peter’s big sister; she’s gorgeous, clever, and has this spark I can’t ignore. Too bad she’s also living like a hermit, and Peter wants me to help “get her back out there.” What he doesn’t know is that I’ve fancied her for years. Nudging her out of her shell might just break mine wide open.
This steamy romance is part of a series set in a shared world, but you don’t need to have read the others to enjoy it. Each story stands alone, though you might spot a few familiar faces along the way!
It contains adult content, please read the content warnings. The book is set in England and written in British English.
Author Dani Elias loves writing about British working-class hotties and the women who are their happily-ever-after. Her stories are short, sweet & steamy.
She lives in the South of England and has a great passion for travel, something that does appear in her books as well.

I just love the setting, the culture, recognising the name places - this is a book that takes place in England (not London!) and full of English culture; if you like that then you’ll already like this.
I really enjoyed the first novella in this series about a couple who falls for each other while joining a ramblers/walkers club. This is now another couple who spark up after Mrs Higgins’ meddling suggestion to join the walking club. Alexandra reluctantly agrees and Hunter, Alexandra’s brother’s best friend, happens to be there too and he happens to make her heart flutter.
I like that Alexandra is in her 40s (Hunter is a couple years younger) and the book just reads like a realistic slice of life. It’s refreshing! The romance does happen quickly but you do understand through the writing that they have a history, so the pace works. I could have maybe used a little more banter or talks between them to establish the connection more fully but it did still work overall.
Hunter captivated me immediately and how much he feels for Alexandra and for all these years. I loved when he was talking about his reaction to seeing Alexandra so hurt by her ex and how much he really sees her. Their long-held and hidden feelings for each other burst open in this book and it’s so sweet how it develops. There’s quite a few open-door spice scenes throughout as well.
The writing is so romantic, I kind of swooned a bit the whole way through.
This was a heart-warming, cozy, and pleasant read. It is a novella, so it’s short and jumps right into things. Perfect when you want just a little pick-me-up of a romance.
4/5 ⭐️
I received an advance copy of the book and have left my honest, influence-free review
4.5⭐️ You know it’s a good novella when you wish it was a full length book. This was a quick, cute, steamy English romance. Loved that the MC was over 40 and the couple had known each other forever so it didn’t feel like insta-love, which many novellas do. Take me to this Yorkshire pub bc I want in on this walking club!
Another sweet and spicy novella in The Ramblers of St Claire series. Alexandra owns the local tavern and Hunter owns the local hotel. They have secretly been attracted to each other but Hunter is her brother's best friend, neither acted on it. They finally get a little closer and let all their feelings out. Can they make it work?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The relationship between Alexandra and hunt who secretly have been crushing on eachother for years. I am so very glad the notorious Bernard made his appearance in this book. It wouldn’t have been the same without him. Thank you for allowing me to be apart of the ARC team
Tropes: 💫novella 💫brothers best friend 💫she’s older 💫he falls first 💫British small town romance 💫business Enemies 💫steamy 💫dual POV
“Pimms at noon. Must be a wedding anniversary or a midlife crisis.” 😆😆😆 hahaha I giggled
It's great. While it's insta-love on the page, it's been brewing for a couple of years. The author does a great job of showing a lot of the past in just a few pages. So, the angst of a yearning that has been going on for a couple of years is felt. This is the 2nd read in the The Ramblers of St. Claire series, and I am ready to join this walking club.
Alex and Hunter are cute together. And being a part of a small town makes it cozier. The way the town bands together to help each other makes a great back story to the romance.
I'd highly recommend this series and just about anything that Dani Elias writes.
This was a great book it’s part of a series and very good

This is Book 2 of The Rambler's of St. Claire and this time it's the turn of Alexandra and Hunter!
I love this series so much and I am so, so glad that Bernard (the dog that has a toxic smell!) is back!
This is such a lovely story of two people who have been crushing over each other for years but were too afraid to say anything to the other. The made mistakes in their lives but ultimately fat brings them back together.
Alexandra is a fabulous character. You can tell she has had a rough ride in life when you meet her, but she hasn't let it define her and instead she has chosen to run the local pub!
Hunter is a great character and I loved meeting him. As the owner of a local hotel, it was really great to see how this would impact the dynamics between these two - are they/aren't they rivals...???
The story has serious themes of rebuilding your life after divorce and striving for your career, but it is wrapped up in a fun parcel, with Bernard the toxic hound lighting the way with his horrendous farts!
Funny, engaging and juat a really, really lovely story, I honestly cannot WAIT until I can revisit this series again with Book 3!
I absolutely recommend this book to all who loves a good romance!
“I’ve wanted you for so bloody long, I don’t even remember what it feels like not to.”
As usual with Dani’s books, Crossed Path was a super pleasant and easy read. I love picking her books because of that, I KNOW I’m in for a good time, and to read the book in one go —and this rule makes no exception. Crossed Paths is the second book in the Ramblers of Saint Claire series, and though it absolutely can be read separately, I would recommend reading book one (which is also a novella), as part of the jokes lay on book 1’s basis. I wish C.P. would have been longer (that said, yu know it will be short when you pick a novella, that’s fair game), to know more about the characters’ inner turmoils a bit more. But that’s mostly because I loved them and couldn’t get enough. Alex is a great character, and her need to have confidence in herself was what I liked the most about her. I loved to see Bernard again (as I said, the book is funnier if you’ve read book 1). So if you like short reads, spicy and full of small town vibes, I can’t recommend you enough that series!
This was another five star read from Dani Elias! I very quickly became a fan of her books after reading only one, and now I know that I just have to read every one that gets released.
This is the second book of the Ramblers of St. Claire series and we get to follow Hunter and Alex as they decide if love is worth pursuing.
Hunter is Alex’s brother’s best friend and she’s been in love with him for so long. I enjoyed getting to read their story and witness them connect and fall in love. I adored Hunter. He was so patient with Alex and he knew what he wanted from the very beginning.
Honestly I could’ve read a full length novel about these two because I love their story so much.
Thank you so much to the author and Happily Booked PR for an advance copy of this novella!
Alex and Hunter - how much fun is this? Low-angst, mature characters, lots of communication. Hunter has been pining for years and he takes his chance with Alex on a rambling walk and then it's back to her pub and go for all the good things! These two both have work demands in their businesses, Alex has a toxic marriage to put behind her and it's so lovely seeing Hunter being all-in. The village life is vivid and Alex's brother Peter is a great secondary character.
Short and sweet, steamy and fun - such a joy to escape into Yorkshire. There's a kerfuffle at the end, but not enough to slow them down. Author Dani does a fantastic job with the short-form novella. I recommend this for an easy afternoon's read.
Thank you Dani Elias for the ARC. Opinions are my own.
All it takes is a walking group, The Rambler’s of St Claire are back, in book 2 Crossed Paths.
Alexandra is busy running the pub. Hunter is busy with the hotel. Hunter also happens to be Alexandra’s brother’s best friend. What will happen when these two start spending more time together???
I’m so glad to have a reappearance of Mrs Higgins and Bernard, the beagle with no shame! I just love Dani’s books- her characters are so sweet and relatable. I can’t get enough of them and look forward to not only the series I am reading but I’m ready for what she has coming out next! Quick, easy, and heartwarming read.
Thank you to author, Dani Elias, and Happily Booked PR for the opportunity to read this book. I am leaving my review voluntarily.
Give me a he falls first, “it’s always been you,” make the MCs be in their 40s, and have Dani Elias being the author, I already knew I’d love this book but it was even better than I expected. I really enjoyed the first book in this novella series, Twisted Paths, and I loved that couple so much but I think I might like Alexandra and Hunter a little bit more. Alexandra and Hunter have fun banter and match each other in the bedroom but I think how open Hunter is about his love for her are my favorite parts of this book. Thank you to author Dani Elias and Happily Booked PR for the opportunity to read this early!
Fresh out of a messy divorce, Alexandra swears she’s done with love—until her brother’s best friend, Hunter, shows up and complicates everything. Cue the tension, the banter, and enough chemistry to light up the entire English countryside.
✨ What you’re getting: • A heroine finding her strength again. • A swoony best-friend’s-brother romance. • Tender + steamy moments that’ll make you blush. • Side characters who bring the sass and humor (looking at you, Mrs. Higgins 👀).
This isn’t just a romance; it’s about healing, laughing, and risking your heart again. If second chances and witty banter are your jam, Crossed Paths is a must-read
This lovely novella is about finding love after being so hurt you cant stand it and never giving up. Hunter has loved Alexandra since forever but they have one major issue Hunter the best friend of her brother. After finally giving into their attraction to one another they start dating.
Hunter tells Alex exactly how he feels for her and given the past history with Alex she takes her time. But it is so healthy to see a relationship evolve even when they have their own miscommunications. Thank you Dani Elias and Happily Booked Pr for the copy for my honest review
I loved this series so when I saw the second one come out I knew I had to read it! It was every bit as good as I knew it would it be! Dani has a way to captivate you and draw you in, even though the book is only 159 pages. I fell in love with Ally and Hunter almost immediately and didn’t want to put the book down. His easy going demeanor and her guarded heart were perfect for each other. The way he fell first so many moons ago and his patience to finally get her paid off. She found the one her heart could love and still be totally herself regardless of what the town thought of her.
Dani Elias is definitely one of my go to’s for RomCom’s and contemporary romance reads. Crossed Paths is book 2 in the Ramblers of St. Clair standalone series and a perfect addition. It’s a quick and steamy novella set in England, with MC’s in their late 30’s and early 40’s which I love, I love Hunter and Alex they have such a cute story and OMG I love Bernard!!!
Overall another great read from Dani Elias and look forward to more from the Ramblers of St. Clair
Crossed Path is book 2 in The Ramblers of St Claire Series.
Dani did it again! If you didn't read book 1, I would highly recommend it! It had me laughing out loud. This book isn't funny like book 1 but it is great! It's written well, I enjoyed the story, drama, and the spice! Definitely a series worth adding to your TBR IMO!
I really enjoyed this cute novella! I liked the brother best friend trop, which is not something I normally read. But it was done really well in this story. The spice was spicing, the longing and the yearning was chefs kiss good. I really did enjoy Hunters and Alex's story! I also loved the fact that she was older, not something I see enough in books. 4🌟 2🌶
This is book number 2 in the “Ramblers of St. Claire” series and it was a very quick and enjoyable read! Hunter and Alex were such a wonderful couple and the instalove was perfect. I like how the stories are interconnected as well with the first book so it’s easy to follow characters mentioned in the background and all. Also happy that my favorite old beagle, Bernard, showed up as well from first book 😂. I am looking forward to the rest of the books in this series!
“I’ve loved her from afar, watched her laugh, cry, live her life without me, and always wondered what it would be like to be the one she turned to. Now I know.”
Oooh, this novella was absolutely delicious. The Ramblers of St. Claire series is such a fun series. These short stories will have you laughing out loud, swooning, and melting in your seat all with a side of an emotional journey. They may be short, but they pack a punch.
“Now that I’ve had you, I can’t go back. I don’t want anyone else. I want you. I want all of you. I’ve wanted you for so bloody long, I don’t even remember what it feels like not to. I’ve been yours for years.”
I found my new favorite Dani Elias couple in Alex & Hunter. Alex is a strong, independent woman who’s still grappling with the after effects of the humiliation her ex-husband caused her. I love that she stepped out of her comfort zone and started to open up to those around her again. And Hunter? The way that he finally goes after what he wants and tells Alex how he feels had me swooning so hard. And the way that he respected Alex needing time to process everything after he did so, really sealed the deal. I love a man that can respect boundaries.
“I’ve wanted to say it for so long, Alex. It’s been sitting in my chest, taking up space. And I couldn’t keep carrying it around without letting you know.”
The ragtag group of side characters adds so much to the story. They push the main characters to step out of their comfort zone. And of course, add a comedic element (I’m looking at you, Bernard). I cannot wait for the next installment of this series.
𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐬 was such a cute novella. It was short, sweet, fast-paced, and had lots of swoony romance that had me smiling the entire book. The characters were so great and after reading the first book, 𝑻𝒘𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝑷𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒔, I felt like I was coming back home to old family and friends. Dani Elias’ world building is amazing!
I was over the moon with excitement when I saw that Bernard the farting dog was back . He brought some amazing laughs and humor to the story. I was also happy to see Nancy back!
Alex and Hunter were such a cute couple and their romance absolutely melted my heart. These two were childhood friends, with Hunter also being Alex’s brother’s best friend. Tough they have always had feelings for each other, after Alex got married, Hunter believed that he lost his chance to ever be with her.
But, one night, everything changes. Hunter makes his move and learns that Alex feels the same. After some time spent together, they both admit their strong feelings for each other. However, the hurt she experienced in her first marriage makes it hard for Alex to fully trust again. Hunter does not let that deter him and through patience, love, and care, he puts in the work and takes the steps necessary to show her that she is safe with him. It was just so sweet to watch.
I really enjoyed this story. 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑹𝒂𝒎𝒃𝒍𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑺𝒕. 𝑪𝒍𝒂𝒊𝒓𝒆 series has been a great one so far and I would recommend 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐬 to all fans of fast-passed, sweet romances that will have you smiling and swooning from the first page all the way to the last!
Dani Elias does it again! Crossed Paths was such a heartwarming and sweet novella. I love that Elias set this series around a walking club in a small English town. It gives it such a cozy vibe and makes you feel like you’re right there with the characters.
Alex and Hunter were just adorable together. She’s strong, independent, and still healing from the hurt her ex left behind, and Hunter has basically loved her forever which is just so cute. The way he finally steps up and tells her exactly how he feels? Swoon and made me fall in love. I loved how much respect and patience he showed her, giving her space to process but also making sure she knew he wasn’t going anywhere. New Book Boyfriend? Maybe!
The novella has such good pacing and was packed with plot. The history between them made their romance believable here, and I loved watching long-held feelings finally come to light. Plus, Hunter just stole the show for me. I could feel every bit of his devotion to Alex.
The side characters are always such a fun addition in Dani's books, and this is no exception. They brought so much humor, heart, and that sense of found family that makes these novellas so special in my opinion. (Yes, Bernard the farting dog is back, and yes, I still laughed way too much at that.)
Overall, this was a cozy, swoony, pick-me-up kind of read. Perfect for when you want romance that’s sweet, a little spicy, and guaranteed to leave you smiling and kicking your feet from cuteness overload!
Crossed Paths by Dani Elias (ARC Review) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I blooming loved this novella! It’s spicy and sweet and was perfectly timed for my weekend away in North Yorkshire. I loved the chemistry between the two main characters and the insanity of small town life in the north of England was so accurate it felt like I was home!
As a local I found the setting so comforting and the story line made so much sense alongside it.
I have also never heard a more accurate description of how quickly the weather changes for us-
“Above us, black clouds are pulling across the sky like someone’s dragging a curtain over the sun.” ☀️ 🌧️
I loved how the speed of their relationship didn’t feel rushed, it just felt like they’d been waiting for the right time to pause and see each other. I also particularly loved how emotionally intelligent Hunter was, he smashed through any obstacles faced with such CERTAINTY, a ludicrously attractive quality.
It’s great when the main characters are a little bit older and add in a curvy FMC and I am sold!
Fave Quotes:
“Curvy, solid, beautiful, like a woman who’s lived and hasn’t shrunk herself for anyone” 🖤🖤
Don’t waste your time, run and read this as soon as it comes out! For non UK readers it’s a great insight into northern England/countryside reality.
Thank you to @dani_elias_books and @happilybookedpr for the ARC! 🖤
"I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.” Crossed Paths is a delightful novella short, sweet, and brimming with heartfelt romance. Its fast pace and charming characters kept me smiling from start to finish. At the heart of the novella are Alex and Hunter, whose romance was tender and deeply moving. Childhood friends and with Hunter also being Alex’s brother’s best friend their bond has always carried an undercurrent of unspoken feelings. After Alex’s marriage, Hunter assumed his chance with her was gone forever. But one pivotal night changes everything. When Hunter bravely confesses his feelings, he learns that Alex feels the same. Their journey is not without obstacles: Alex’s painful first marriage has left her wary of trusting again. Yet Hunter’s patience, devotion, and consistent care gently break down her walls, proving to her that she is safe and cherished in his love. Watching their relationship blossom was both touching and rewarding. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The Ramblers of St. Claire series continues to be a wonderful collection, and I highly recommend Crossed Paths to fans of lighthearted, romantic novellas. With its mix of humor, sweetness, and swoon worthy romance, it’s the kind of story that will capture your heart from the first page to the very last. 💛
I didn’t know what to expect when I started Crossed Paths but I was completely swept away. The writing is so vivid and engaging that it felt less like reading and more like being dropped right into Alexandra’s life. I kept telling myself just one more chapter, and before I knew it the hours had disappeared. It’s one of those rare books that makes you forget the world around you.
What really surprised me was how layered the story felt. There’s humor, heartbreak, quiet moments of reflection, and a simmering tension that pulls everything together. The setting feels alive, from the pub with its mix of regulars and chaos, to the countryside walks where silences say just as much as words. It is beautifully balanced—grounded in everyday life, but charged with emotion that makes every page feel meaningful.
Alexandra is such a compelling character. She’s witty and resilient but also bruised in a way that makes her deeply relatable. I found myself rooting for her not only in her relationships but in her journey to reclaim her own confidence. Hunter brings such warmth to the story, steady and quietly magnetic, and every scene between them sparkles with unspoken history.
By the end, I was smiling through that bittersweet ache that comes from not wanting a book to end. Crossed Paths surprised me in the best way. It’s heartfelt, funny, tender, and utterly captivating. A solid five stars.
Crossing Paths by Dani Elias is the second book in the St. Claire small-town romance series, and it completely swept me away.
Alexandra and Hunter’s story is everything I love in romance—brother’s best friend, older main characters, and the most delicious twist of unrequited love on both sides. Hunter has loved Alexandra since he was 18 (swoony overload!), and the slow burn of years of longing finally breaking into something real was beautifully done.
Dani Elias knows how to write swoon-worthy lines that stick with you:
💫 “…I’ll walk away. But even then, I’ll still hope. Because I don’t know how not to.”
💫 “Years of unspoken feelings, of glances across crowded rooms, of moments like this one that never quite happened—they all converge in this kiss. I’ve loved her from afar, watched her laugh, cry, live her life without me, and always wondered what it would be like to be the one she turned to. Now I know.”
I also adored Mrs. Higgins, who brought humor and warmth to every scene she touched. Between her charm, the walking/rambling group dynamic, and the cozy community of St. Claire, this book struck the perfect balance of heartfelt and heartwarming.
If you love small-town romance with humor, slow-burn longing, and plenty of swoon, Crossing Paths is a must-read. I’m already eager for more from St. Claire!
The easy things. The hard things. The in-between.”
Crossed Paths by Dani Elias is the second book in The Ramblers of St. Claire Series. The novella tells Alex and Hunter’s story. Alex is divorced and over the past two years has been working on healing from her divorce.
Hunter is Alex’s brother’s best friend and has loved her for years. Hunter and Alex reunite at a local event in town and they gradually find their way to one another. The pacing of the novella is well done in building Alex and Hunter’s relationship.
I enjoyed this novella and seeing Alex and Hunter find their way to each other. Alex was very honest about how she was still in fear of starting a new relationship following what happened to her in her marriage and divorce. I liked Hunter’s patience and support, and he showed consistency in his love for Alex. I was rooting for them throughout the story.
Readers who enjoy small town romance, stories set in the UK, and he falls first romances will enjoy this novella. There are open door scenes in this novella.
Thank you to Dani Elias and Happily Booked PR for the opportunity to read and review this book!
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I think I loved just about everything about this book. Its’ book 2, but I was grateful I could read this without reading book 1. I loved the setting, the way everything, from the Pub to the hikes, were described. I loved Peter, the pushy, yet protective brother. Even Bernard, the dog, who at times was my favorite.
Alexandra frustrated me from time to time, but I think that was only because I can see myself in her hermit ways and I didn’t like it. LOL. I was very intrigued by her fluttering heart for a younger man, especially being her brother’s best friend.
Hunter drew me in immediately with the way he cared for Alexandra. He waited in the wings for so long just watching and waiting, being respectful of her marriage and after giving her time to process things. It was comforting the way he helped her without hesitation.
Watching their relationship develop, the romance, how they both had hidden feelings for the other and the dramatic events that ensued were heartwarming to experience. Hunter proving himself, not by his words, but by his actions was the best.
Will definitely be going back to read book 1 and looking forward to book 3!
“I really need to stop lusting after my brother’s best friend.”
I love a good mutual pining romance then add in the fact he is her brother’s best friend perfection. The Ramblers of St. Claire series is set in a British small town and can be read as a standalone but you will see cameo’s from other couples. The Ramblers is a walking group that was started in book 1. It is meant to bring community and get to know each other and Alexandra is the newest member thanks to her brother. Alexandra is the owner of the pub in town and since her divorce she has retreated to work mainly due to the whispers. Her brother wants her to get out more and mentions the Ramblers walk also mentioning his best friend Hunter will be on the walk as well. Hunter owns a boutique hotel in town and has had a crush on his best friend’s older sister for years. He decided on the walk so he can give his customers ideas, but it also gives him the opportunity to get closer to Alex. When he decides to help her at her pub after the walk it turns to all his dreams coming true. Alex wants this to be a one time thing but Hunter is not having it and wants to prove he is nothing like her ex.

If you’re not reading Dani Elias yet, you’re seriously missing out. This novella? Chef’s kiss. The Ramblers of St. Claire series is quick, fun, and packed with laughs, swoons, and feels. Short stories, with BIG emotions. Even though this is a novella, the pace of the book is neither rushed or left wanting of the details.
“Now that I’ve had you, I can’t go back. I don’t want anyone else. I want you. I want all of you. I’ve wanted you for so bloody long, I don’t even remember what it feels like not to. I’ve been yours for years.”
Alex & Hunter are the perfect package.. She’s strong but healing from her past, and he’s the man who has always had a spot for her in his heart. Even on her wedding day. He finally lays it all on the line—and still respects her boundaries. I mean, SWOON!
“I’ve wanted to say it for so long, Alex. It’s been sitting in my chest, taking up space. And I couldn’t keep carrying it around without letting you know.”
This book had it all, the spice, the romance, the matchmaker makes an appearance along with her dog (IYKYK) all this together and you’ve got another addictive book in the series. I’m already impatient for the next one.
