The Brothers Grimm has been a name I've known since childhood, but I had never read their stories til now. From the hype, I expected way gruesome and gorey tales, but there was only one story with a pit of blood and dismembered bodies. All of the tales are kinda odd, and are repeated/altered in some. For most I couldn't gain a life lesson or a main point from pretty much every story; they are all rambling and twisty. Takes a while to get used to some of the language, but they were all entertaining. Feel like this is a nice bathroom book, to pick up and read any of the 99 at random, then put down again. The shortest is half a page, the longest maybe 5 pages. Easy to munch your way through.
Glad to have read it all, probably won't ever do it again.

I gave it 2 stars because I did like some of the stories but some of them I just did not like. I also wanted to stop reading halfway through but I just power through to finish. Some stories were like repeats.

This book wasn’t exactly a good book, but it wasn’t a bad book either. The main thing I liked about it is how you can see where the original stories came from and how they were written. The thing about it is that I had a different opinion on each of the ninety nine stories I read, depending on which one. Some stories I really enjoyed, some I thought were decent, and some I thought were really stupid. There was this one fairy tale called “The Story of the Youth Who Went Forth to Learn What Fear Was” and it’s basically about this young boy, or, as the book calls him, “a youth”, who goes on this ridiculous journey to learn how to shudder. Like, what the crap is that? How does anyone not know how to shudder? I know it’s a fairy tale, but I just thought that was kind of weird (please don’t judge in the comments).
The other thing is that most of the stories seemed like they were reciting a different story but they were told in a somewhat different way. Like there’s multiple stories about two kids who live with their stepmother or mom and the stepmother wants to cut off one child’s head and cook it while said child is sleeping, but that child sneaks away with someone and hides while the other child gets killed. There’s also some stories that have a character named Hans, and some stories have characters with shared names, like they use Gretel as a character in one other fairy tale like Hansel and Gretel, Gretel. It was basically the same thing every couple of pages with most of the fairy tales. As I type this out it’s probably getting clear to you that I thought this was very strange in a book like this. I know that some fairy tales have rewrites or better versions so maybe that could have been why, but I found it interesting. Sort of. There was also some moments where I was reading and I wanted to keep reading but at the same time I wanted to stop reading.
However, some stories were good, like Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella, and Little Snow White. They were all written very well and I liked that. I wonder if they’ll make something out of this book to support the Brothers Grimm, like maybe they’ll do a movie that is like a mashup of all the fairy tales featured in the book. In conclusion, I thought this book was okay, definitely not one of the best books I’ve read but I did enjoy reading it at some points. Overall, I rank it 3.6 out of five stars.

Had it as my casual read in between books. It was so entertaining and fun to see where the original stories come from.

I liked the many stories here the brothers grimm are intriguing author’s,i love the folktale of the german environment some stories very similar other’s quite unique i liked.

Turns out the Grimm Brothers are really creepy. Also, lots of run-on sentences and some incorrect grammar. Really good shock value, though.
