Lauren Grace is a widowed pastor's wife who has sworn off romance and religion. Aaron Miles Scott grew up living a rockstar's life. After a terrible accident, he left the band and is struggling to find inspiration. Sparks begin to fly when the two of them are asked to be judges of a teen talent competition. However, Lauren cannot move beyond the hurts of her former life, and Aaron is stuck reliving his past. Can they learn to forgive previous mistakes and find love?
Jennifer Willcock has created a lovely character in Lauren. What makes the story even greater is the relatability of her experiences. After the tragic event that killed her husband, Lauren is trying to figure out who she is as an individual. She uproots her old life, questions her faith, and struggles to make sense of what has happened to her. Through all of this, she learns that leaning on others and being vulnerable may be the only way to move forward.
Overall, Hymn of Life is an enjoyable romance novel that explores the complexity of forgiveness and falling in love. It's the sort of book that can't be put down once it's started!

I loved this story!
Lauren and Aaron are so real and human with their hurts and brokenness, they each learn about the power of forgiveness in their healing and find their way to trust one another. I really enjoyed this romance and can’t wait to read what Jennifer Willcock writes next!

Lauren tries to be the perfect pastor’s wife for her husband, Solomon, and his large, successful church, but she feels further from him, God, and happiness than ever. When Lauren is left a confused and grieving widow, she moves in with her best friend to figure out what comes next. Though she doesn’t want her life to include any more men, celebrities, or churches, God has a different plan.
Lauren’s and Aaron’s faith journeys are as much a part of the story as the romance. While the strong Christian themes are obvious, they are authentic and not preachy. The foreshadowing is as subtle as a brick thrown through a window, but the story flows well and the characters are relatable. I enjoyed every chapter of this book.
That majority of characters are Canadian. The mature content rating is for mild innuendo, kissing, and mentions of drug and alcohol use, including overdose. The violence rating is for mild car accident details and jokes about murder.

I had so much fun writing this romance but I also wrote this story from my heart. As a pastor's wife for more than twenty years I understand and have experienced my own church hurt as well as the good times of a loving community.
I write about church hurt because it is something we need to speak about more and acknowledge. I write about it in fiction because for some of us, it's easier to swallow that way. So if that is a trigger for you just be aware it's in the book.
I really hope you enjoy Lauren and Aaron's story.

I was fortunate enough to read this story several times and it was a delight each time. I enjoyed the nuances of each characters’ pasts and the individual things they had to struggle with as well as finding a way to figure out what they wanted for their futures. This isn’t my usual genre (I typically navigate toward historical fiction, fantasy, and mystery) but I was surprised by how invested I was in finding out what happened between these two broken people figuring out their faith and love. Definitely worth a read❤️
