Morpheus couldn’t be trusted. He was the son of Hypnos, the god responsible for aiding Demeter, killing witches, and stealing my little sister. Morpheus had the rest of them fooled with his smug grin, sharp cheekbones, and golden eyes glinting with sex and privilege, but I saw through his cocky smirk.
Hades thought Morpheus would keep me in line, prevent me from making thing worse for The Underworld in this war, but neither of them realized just how far I was wiling to go to save my sister.
The first hint of her fear scented the air. A piece of me crumpled at the knowledge that I was the cause of it. I wished to the depths of my soul that this could’ve been different. In another life, another rebirth, perhaps we might’ve stood a chance.
But life was cruel. And time had run out.
“I’m sorry,” I breathed, the soft words lost to her protests as I leaned forward and sank my teeth into her flesh.
10/10 read! I’ve been loving this sinful series. I cannot wait to see where CL Briar goes next with this series! If you love a Greek retelling with so much spice. This is where you go! I’ll be definitely on the lookout for more!
Summer’s Seduction by C.L. Briar is book two in the Sinful Seasons series. I immediately started this book after finishing Spring’s Descent (Book 1). Lark and Morpheus sparked my interest in book 1. I was curious to see what awaited them in their book. This book did not disappoint. The plotline was well done! These two characters had such rough pasts and seeing them overcome their trauma was inspiring. Lark was very relatable! I loved how bloodthirsty and badass she was. I really liked that Morpheus helped to cultivate Larks power instead of trying to tame her. Morpheus and Lark truly were perfect for one another. They both have darkness and I loved how they embraced that part of each other. These two were also super spicy!!! They had great chemistry. The tension in the beginning between these two was great. I would definitely recommend this book if you like Greek God retellings.
I enjoyed the characters of this book more than the first but the author's use of "flitted" basically every chapter took me out of it. there were also a lot of grammatical errors and some scenes seemed like the author forgot where her characters were in relation to each other. I also didn't like how most new characters were just there all of a sudden. the spicy scenes were just okay.
YOU HAVE TO READ SPRINGS DESCENT FIRST I didn’t… and then I went back and read Springs Descent and things would’ve made sooooo much more sense. I was under the impression it could be read as a standalone because it came in a book box, I wish there had been a warning about that. I loved Lark’s character arc and understanding why she did what she did. Morpheus was a little more complicated for me and I wish we had a little more info about him, but I enjoyed them both all the same. Did find quite a few spelling errors (easily could’ve been autocorrect doing her dirty) which makes me wish I could’ve beta or arc read for her because my eyes spot those things like a hawk 😆
So I wasn’t aware that this book was out until I seen the author posting on social media. So I had to grab it. Because I loved the first book. And this continues the story, but focuses on two new characters, Morpheus and Larkspur. And I absolutely loved it. The story, and these characters.. through the entire book, you are hoping things are going to work out. And so many times I was like, nooo.. lol. But I loved how everything worked out. And now, I can’t wait to see who the next book is going to be about.
This was such a good follow up to book 1. I really enjoyed the adventure and danger, the spice was spicy and I enjoyed the relationship development! The world felt really magical and engrossing! There were a handful of writing errors but it was not overly bothersome! This book definitely deserves more hype! Larkspur is a bad ass and I’m glad I got to know her more and why she was the way she was! Biting kink unleashed 😏
I really enjoyed their romance story and got emotional towards the end. They overcame their traumatic pasts and help each other be the best version of themselves. And the spicy scenes were hot, a bit kinky, and heavy!
Morpheus and Larkspur’s love for each other touch my heart and they are the first story that has a special place in my heart in 2025!
🔥 SUMMER’S SEDUCTION 🔥 by @c.l.briar is the perfect smutty summer poolside read. Following the events of Persephone and Hade’s from Spring’s Descent, we dive into Morpheus, the God of Dreams, and Persephone’s bestie Larkspur and her awakening powers. More about the story and action than the smut, it’s still a super fun read!
Maybe I'll revisit this one day. Everything was too wordy, all the characters too new...did I miss a book prior to this? Because there was so many shit that happened, I don't know about, and this book feels like it's picking up from the last story.
I liked the beginning a lot. towards the middle, it started dragging and it was taking me a while to finish it. also, bugged me with how many errors there were. the ending was okay. I liked this love story a lot more than the 1st book though.
After reading springs descent I wanted to read this one and was very disappointed at the repetitive comments from the main protagonist, the lack of real chemistry between them, and the conflict that always seemed to resolve too quickly.
I felt like this book took me forever. Several repetitive type spice scenes. Plot itself seemed to drag. I just lost interest. I finished the book but it felt like work
If you love to read about gods/goddesses or anything of that nature this is a good pick. The book keeps you pulled in to see what happens. Enemies to lovers.
I would say its more of a 2.5 experience. As the story progressed, I was loosing interest. I like some of Meadowlark's character but for the most part she just annoyed me. I like the romance more here than the first one but the smut was tiresome. The plot was lost somewhere on the way and it started to feel like a chore to finish the story. Then you get to the writing and things are about the same as they were in the first one, redundant & over explained. It honestly could use a few more runs through editing.
On the one hand, Briar has an incredible imagination, bringing new life and perspective to people/creatures in Greek mythology we’ve known for a long time… and on the other, the execution is a bit rough.
This second book in the Sinful Seasons series takes on more than it can handle. The story was all over the place; the battle scenes were inconsistent, the plot got lost and forgotten often, and the text itself is riddled with grammatical errors. But if you can accept and get past that, it’s overall a fun read- largely for the character development between Larkspur and Morpheus, and their VERY well-written spicy moments.
a well done sequel to the spring novel even though it focuses on 2 new characters - def read both in order. some good twists and a dark, broody, he falls first MMC
Just meh. I think this is the slowest I’ve read a book in a long time. It didn’t hook me and draw me in. I liked Larkspur and Morpheus as characters more than Persephone and Hades. There was so much potential!
